Sona restaurant
The service at Sona was good and the employees were helpful , the 2 stars just based on the service .However when it comes to the food , it was not nice in my opinion . As it is more costly I expected the food to be much better that what was served .
Be the first to ReplyVery Good Creative Indian in Gramercy
This was our third visit to Sona and it stood up to the previous times. We liked the Bengali Beet Chop, the Chicken Biriyani, the chili cheese nan. Less worthy was the carrot salad and the mushrooms. On the cocktail side we liked the Girl from Goa and the Smoked Fashion.

Came here on 26 Nov for birthday meal with my husband. Sonas had delicious Indian dishes with a modern twist. We are vegetarian and there was great variety. Our favourites were the dosas, garlic naan and kofta. Atmosphere perfect for date night. Our waitress had fantastic customer service and organised a lovely birthday treat. Our only negative was man at the front of house, we found him very unprofessional. He spent most the time texting on his phone or picking his nose. Customer service/ welcoming customers and helping his team was definitely not of interest to him - let the restaurant down.
Be the first to ReplyVery DISAPPOINTING experience
The staff at entrance is very rude, we were not given our table even after 20 mins of our booked time. When we argued they said we forgot, we had seen other guests having the same issue as well. When they made noise only then the manager got involved and got them the table. We then asked if only makikg noise gets you a table, the entrance staff said yes, not the cutomaer service we were expecting. Pretty rude and made faces at us, when we were not at fault at all, we actually arrived 10mins before our booked time. Anyways food was pretty average as well. Aloo chaat was crispy and delicious but everything else was below average. Butter chicken was very sweet, malabar fish lacked flavour. Chocolate bebinca wasnโt great either. We would never come back again and wonโt recommend either. The staff is not welcoming at all except for the servers who were decent.
Be the first to ReplySimply the best Indian food in New York City
I have been to SONA many times, including most recently yesterday for a holiday lunch with friends. It is consistently the most delicious, inventive Indian food available in New York City, and the restaurant is chic and sophisticated. I would highly recommend for a special occasion dinner, business lunch or just an opportunity to have an amazing meal.
Be the first to ReplyPrice is not worth the taste. Very expensive and reservations manager is a very unpleasant person.
I went for dinner with my husband and kid and firstly was disappointed with the reservations manager because she worked as if she's being forced to work. Very ignorant and unpleasant almost made me want to get out of there. Honestly if you go to any restaurants in my country, i.e. NEW ZEALAND, you don't have to give a single tip to get a vip service. Most workers at Sona were working as if they were forced to work except the girl who served us. She was good. Place is extremely stuffy and portion of the food is ridiculous. Goat and lamb were great but chicken lamb and prawns were extremely disappointing, we are a foodie and now a lot about food. Just because Sona is Priyanka Chopra's restaurant, that doesn't mean price should be touching the sky and portion is a size of a walnut. Donโt recommend it to anyone.

SONA is a terrific restaurant with terrific food. From the moment I walked in, I was dazzled by the ambience. Itโs a great upscale restaurant to visit, with lots of waiters and quality upscale dining. If you are looking for Special Occasions, SONA is a must go. SONA means โGoldโ in Hindi, and thatโs what I would rate this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
I expected more but got less. Apart from it being pricey, the food was very disappointing. I had monk fish that was not cooked properly and the naan bread basket had a hair. When I pointed this out to the manager he went on explaining how all chefs wear a net but seemed little concerned about the reputation. I would hesitate to go there again and certainly would not recommend it for anyone. If this is what a Mitchilin star restaurant can offer it is concerning.
Be the first to ReplyBad service, average food, price gouging
I stopped writing bad reviews after Covid decimated the restaurant industry, and I didn't feel it was fair, but this place was SO bad, I couldn't stop myself. It's only getting the second star because service (and drinks) at the bar were very good, as was our busboy. Once we were seated at our table is when the problems began. Our waiter was beyond terrible. Long waits, forgotten food... We are Indian food aficionados, and didn't find anything extraordinary about anything served here. All very average. Much of it cold. Prices were very high for such small portions, and it felt like nickel and diming: rice was a separate item (in an Indian restaurant!) and club soda cost $6 a glass. That's ridiculous. I had been so excited to finally be able to go and felt like an idiot for dragging everyone there. Ugh!

Starters were the crab puri with caviar 3 pieces - outstanding! Oysters mediocre. Mains we shared the Malabar Chicken Biryani - great presentation. Desserts were the layered chocolate cake/pudding and the Jalebi and the Jalebi was special. We had a 17:30 and was seated at the back - not a big deal but just giving you guys an idea of the system they use. First impressions were disappointing - very bare and not the โchicโ they mentioned and was therefore expecting. The place was empty when we arrived, thinking maybe it was still early but hadnโt picked up when we were leaving either. Our waitress didnโt mention her name but itโs probably on the receipt. She was not professional in her mannerisms nor her speech. When offering us the menus, she held the cocktail menu close to her person, saying: โno cocktails rightโ to which I said Iโll take a look but was so disheartened at this point that I didnโt even want one anymore. She provided no information about the menu or establishment. When we ordered our starters, she said they take the whole order at once. So we had to rethink how to make this work as we are out-of-towners and a doggy bag wasnโt an option. When she came back a few minutes later for the complete order, we decided to have a medley of dishes to share. Then she says the starter order is in. Now weโre put back at square one. So which is it? All at the same time or starters are inโฆ. Therefore decided to share a mains. She retorted: โwould you like to speak to a manager?โ to which I replied โno, I can understand you perfectlyโ. She was also dancing while in view of diners. Let me not even mention how appalling the music was! Jhene Aiko - Back to the Streetsโฆ. are you kidding? N-word b-ch etc, very colorful. Well any warmth or color missing from the decor and ambiance was definitely in those lyrics. Manager did not check on guests at all. On our way out, no farewell, no thank you, no fโ- youโฆ.. give me something. They are past the point of ironing out creases. Itโs not worth your effort - donโt go. Itโs just not โpolishedโ.

for apps we tried the gobi, shrimp, chicken and samosa...the gobi and shrimp was too battered up and tasted almost alike. for dinner we tried a bunch of other dishes ...not bad ....only issue we had was we asked for kingfisher beer and it took them 45 minutes to get us a cold one....they kept saying they were icing them...
Be the first to Reply40th birthday celebration
We Traveled to New York for a birthday celebration and decided to eat at Sona as itโs a priyanka chopra restaurant. Was very disappointed in the convey belt experience I received. Had advised waitress if I wanted fast food I would have gone to Mac Donaldโs. She was very arrogant and explained it is company policy to bring food straight away. I entered restaurant at 8pm, by 8.45 I had drinks, pre starters, starters and mains come to my table, I was so disappointment after speaking to two managers and complaining. The response I received was โ would you like a complimentary drink to make up for the horrible experienceโ I refused. I will not be going back to this restaurant. Awful service, if you want fast food This is the restaurant. However on a positive note, pre starter and starters were lovely. Was too full to even eat the mains as I had no time to enjoy ambiance or food.

We went a couple of weeks ago with our daughter on a visit to NYC! We love Indian food. Drinks were excellent! All freshly shaken! We wanted to order appetizers and wait until afterwards to order our entree as it is a pet peeve of ours when they bring the entree too quickly. The waitress, although extremely pleasant, flat out refused to allow this, we explained our reasons but she smilingly insisted that this would not happen, because she would ensure that it didnโt. We reluctantly agreed. Appetizers were very tasty. But not sooner had we taken the last bite when ours entrees arrived. A butter chicken that was perfectly adequate, a lamb dish that was amazing ๐คฉ and a vegetarian curry that was very nice, with lots of sauce, but could have done with the addition of a lot more veggies. And some rice and a couple of orders of very good garlic nan. All in all the food was pretty good but we couldnโt help but feel that it was thrown at us. We wanted to take our time and it felt like fast food which shouldnโt be the case for a meal costing over $300.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service
Great food and drink. Awesome flavours. Good service. Sadly the decor was too minimalistic for an upscale restaurant.

Having eaten here in October for dinner and now lunch in July....this ain't Kansas Toto. Wow. Short of hopping the pond to England this is a devine culinary experience at excellent prices for NYC. The menu is perfect for vegan and meat eaters. Lots of choices. Great ingredients that encourage you to stretch for that perfect dish. I bestow the May Emblem Award to Sona! For outstanding food and service.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great staff and excellent Indian food
There is a great Person in the Restaurant her name is Kusum Adhikari, she makes your experience is this place 10x , She is very cheerful and friendly, Kusum made the experience awesome
Be the first to ReplyIt was ok !
No doubt the food is great, taste, presentation everything. Service was very slow may be it was busy time or short staff but you will see your server once at the time of taking order and to drop the check thats it. No food check no temp check no refil on drink questions nothing.
Be the first to ReplyCelebrity Trap - What a colossal disappointment
This top celebrity promoted Indian restaurant has probably forgotten that serving half decent food is also part of the deal. Ambience is good, staff & service is also good but the food is awful - limited choices (which is ok if you do a good job) and bad taste. Ingredients used are cheap & even the presentation is pedestrian. Portion sizes are tiny & I do know what I am saying here having eaten at many Michelin star restaurants. Ordered the staple Butter Chicken - horrible. Sindhi Aloo Tikki - average. The chef believes sprinkling Sev is enough for plating in a fine dine? Even a roadside vendor in India sprinkles the Sev better. There are better, much better options in Manhattan. Donโt let this insta propelled fame con you - I got trapped, you are warned.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely poor service, overpriced and all I could taste was chilli!
I don't usually write reviews but felt in this case I need too. This restaurant was awful! Not only the food, but the service was extremely unprofessional. Firstly an experience of the service, the hostess/waitresses seemed more interested in taking their Instagram pictures outside the restaurant, rather than focus on serving us. They also consistently used their phones, texting, messaging, doing whatever which to me seems really rude and not professional at all! It seemed like serving us (which is their job) was a burden to them. The food, oh my god! All I could taste was chilli. I am Indian, so very familiar with Indian food, but this food was rubbish! Every dish had the same taste/flavour, just chilli and far too much of it! Couldn't taste any other spice. One of the dishes we ordered was the house chicken which is meant to be a butter chicken dish with the chicken cooked in a tandoor/chargrilled. However, the chicken was not chargrilled, more like boiled! I would have complained but guess what, no waitresses to serve us despite the restaurant being fairly empty for Friday night. Yes, you guessed it, they were too busy on their phones! And don't get me started on the portion sizes, one of the mains my husband ordered was like the size of a starter! I am all for smaller portions when it comes to fine dining, but this was pathetic! Honestly, not worth the money, time and energy it spent going to this place!

Exceptional 2nd visit to Sona. Grilled Terimind Lamb, crab fried rice, and crab puff pastry with caviar were a 10/10. Friendly staff of professionals, incredible quality and space. Will return often.

quite a hype about this restaurant , due to the one of the owners being none other than Priyanka Chopra Jonas, food is great but the bar and the ambience of the place was incredible

Brunch at Sona is incredible ! Highly suggest trying it. Very authentic yet fusion flavored. See pictures for more information !! Management and service is top notch !
Be the first to ReplyToo pretentious and not very good
While this is supposed to be an Indian restaurant, the vibe was very British colonialism, all the way to the China and water.
Service was poor. We had a 1:30pm brunch reservation, but had to wait 30 minutes for a table. We tried to make food requests, but was frequently told that the chef does not allow it. Be aware of the very little amount of bread on the tasting board.
The food itself was ok, but the portions were small and very overpriced. We would not recommend this restaurant, as there are much better Indian restaurants in the city.
