Wonderful dining experience for a special occasion
My husband knows that I'm a foodie and he knows that SF is one of my favorite food cities. So, he let me determine a lot of the restaurants we were going to patronize during our trip. One of which happened to be Sons & Daughters, which I booked in advance with Chase Dining. The meal was prepaid via Tock, so we didn't have to worry about the bill after dining other than the additional beverages we ordered. Sons & Daughters is a Michelin starred restaurant located on Bush and Powell, serving up sustainable, contemporary Nordic inspired cuisine. I was excited to discover that it was near our hotel in Nob Hill. The restaurant contacted me a week in advance asking information on us, whether it was a special occasion or not (it was), whether we had any allergies etc. Speaking of, this reminded me of S2 of The Bear on Hulu. IYKYK. Needless to say, I was excited about dinner at Sons & Daughters. We arrived just a bit earlier than our 5:30 reservation. We were seated near the window and asked if we wanted to order drinks. We were also asked our water preference (sparkling, still, or tap). I didn't prepay for the sommelier package as my husband and I cut back a lot of our alcohol consumption but we did order a porter and a cider to sip along with our meal. We had roughly 15 courses give or take but 18 unique dishes. I won't bore you with the details. Highlights for us were: -Turnips with miso and horseradish from Knoll Farms -Grilled scallop from Maine with browned butter and roasted potatoes -Gilfeather rutabaga from Tierra Vegetables with pork fat cream -Sprouted and toasted buckwheat with hedgehog mushrooms, Chicken of the Woods and wild pea shoots -Quail from Wolfe Ranch served 2 ways -Millbrook venison with beetroots, preserved elderberries, toasted hay and celery leaf -Buttermilk and its whey with sorrel I was pleasantly full at the end of the meal. Everything was spaced out well. We had a brief explanation as dishes were served. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had a very nice, calm experience for dinner. It was wonderful. We were given a welcome note at the beginning of the meal along with menus at the end of the meal. We had a great time.

One of the best experiences my husband and I had. All of the waiters and chefs made our dining event so memorable. For those of us that don't drink alcohol, non-alcoholic "wine" parings were offered with the meal, and they wonderfully enhanced the already outstanding flavors of the meal. Everything was prepared beautifully, the sauces were flavorful, and the plating was artistic. The choreography of the wait staff, removing the plates, cleaning the table, setting the wine glasses, the pour of the wine, and the introduction of the next course, was beautifully staged. We would highly recommend this establishment for any special occasion. This is a true gem!

Amazing night at Sons and Daughters! We had THE BEST time here. Fantastic food and thoughtful wine pairings. They know enough about their non-alcoholic beverages to really almost create a separate pairing menu and they are all delicious. The kitchen is magic to watch and the service is not only attentive but truly friendly and welcoming. The personal touches are especially nice including a personal welcome note and a text several days before to confirm our preferences for food and drink (both alcoholic and non). Very special dining experience and we left feeling like family.
Be the first to ReplyWell Done – Exceptional Take on Modern Northern California Cuisine with Service to Match
Hats off to the Staff (chefs and font of house) at Sons and Daughters for a most memorable meal. Chef de Cuisine John Wesley and the kitchen staff served up plate after plate of creative, fresh, and flavorful dishes, which the staff (including John and the other chefs) took pride in describing. The lobster and scallop dishes were perfection on a plate, the two type of bread scrumptious, the caviar dish superb, and although I’ve never had squab it too was a tasty treat. I often forget to mention the pastry dishes in my reviews but Pastry Chef Michelle Fried’s creations were the perfect end to a Michelin Star meal…with Mandarin Sorbet, toasted grains with smoked chocolate, and a trio of candy morsels. While the menu will obviously change based on available ingredients and the seasons, the innovative skill and professionalism of the staff will ensure your experience is as good as mine. They certainly did make my dining experience a memorable part of my visit to San Francisco. Well worth the expense and well worth a repeat. PS: Don’t forget to order the drinks pairing, so worth it!
Be the first to ReplyExceptional Michelin service, but kitchen needs a new chef
Service and facilities up to Michelin standards…top notch. The problem is the kitchen. Each course was creative and interesting but nothing you wanted more of or would ever order again. Sopping sweet beats on bed of slimy bone marrow? C’mon man! Undercooked squab leg? (Our pre-dinner preferences, confirmed twice, for well done poultry were ignored). I guess the chef knew better…those diners will eat road kill if I say so!
(The breads, desserts, coffee and wine all fantastic.)
I recommend this kitchen for the adventurous diner, especially if you are tired of yummy plate lickin’ haute cuisine and desire a challenge. We left hungry.
The best in San Fran
Going back to Sons and Daughters is like been back with your warmest and most wonderful family members..Last night's dinner was so wonderful..every item was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The kitchen is so creative and draws out the essence of each component. Some of the highlights was heavenly lobster with new potato and shellfish butter. Squab with date vinegar Treviso and port and the most ethereal corn chip with maple, hay and thyme. The service was beyond perfect..it is a crime that they don't have two Michelin stars Thanks to team for a brilliant performance.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Anniversary Dinner
We really enjoyed our wine pairing dinner here to celebrate our 45h anniversary. Every course was beautiful and delicious, and the service was wonderful. The only complaint we had is that they tell you not to be even a minute late for your reservation, but when you arrive early, they do not open the gates to let you until exactly 5:30 and not a minute before. It was cold standing outside waiting. Also, it was uncomfortably cold inside the restaurant the entire time! The couple next to us wrapped up in a blanket/shawl. I wished I had not surrendered by coat when we arrived! Also, it seemed odd to us that the two breads were counted as courses. Overall, it was a memorable evening.

Treat yourself! Worth every penny!!! We enjoye this evening from being greeted at the door, to the impeccable service, the creative menu and the perfect attention to detail! Can’t wait to return on my next visit to San Francisco.
Be the first to ReplyVery good tasting menu
This is a very good tasting menu restaurant. The details are all thought of. The food is delicious. The portions are small but enough so you enjoy the food. You don't get too full through the many courses. The only issue I had was the pace. We were moving a long well then kind of stalled out a few times and it made the meal seem very choppy in the middle. The beginning and end were very smooth. Maybe that was the nature of the courses....but enough for me to only give 4 of 5 stars

This was my second visit in the space of 6 months. This Michelin starred restaurant (one star) only serves a set menu, though they'll make accommodations for dietary restrictions. Everything was flawless-- service, preparation, presentation, and most important, flavorful and delicious. Clearly, they're going for a second Michelin star, which they deserve.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent birthday dinner!
My boyfriend took me to Sons & Daughters for my birthday and my goodness was it lovely! From the moment we arrived (greeted with some cava), to every dish we had (not a single one was less than delicious), to the pairings (highly recommend), to the service (flawless), this was one of our favorite meals in San Francisco. The team left us with a personalized menu of that night (with our names and the date on it and all!), which was just a cherry on top of the cake!
Be the first to ReplySuperb and nearly flawless
I wish I had written this review right after we dined here so I could remember all of the fantastic food we had. Suffice is to say we were not disappointed with any dish on the tasting menu. The wine pairings were outstanding and the service was outstanding with just enough info on each course and pairing but not too much. There was somewhat a lag between courses at a certain point that was too long but nothing that we felt we should complain about it. Be prepared for a feast.
