This restaurant is a long time culinary destination recently made fresh by 2023 Michelin California Young Chef award winner Harrison Cheney at the helm; let the sommelier sherpas guide you through a tasting that showcases CA bounty while adhering to tactful New Nordic precepts - Chef Harrison has an affinity for wild forage, fermented delicacies, and forgotten roots. The service team is exceptional, you can tell they love one another. The stage is romantic and well - lit, and the open kitchen is beautiful to behold. An education in the finer things well worth the price tag and an unforgettable memory for those lucky enough to enjoy it.

I've been lucky enough to dine at some of the country's best spots, including 3 star restaurants, and can honestly say that Sons & Daughters was my favorite experience of them all. When you're eating in a Michelin-starred restaurant, the food is going to be good- that's a given. But what sets Sons & Daughters apart is the personal touch and care that is apparent in every dish. Chef Harrison Cheney and the entire team foster an atmosphere that is warm, welcoming, and the furthest thing from the uppity and pretentious vibes that some spots of this caliber operate in. When dining at Sons & Daughters, you feel like the team there truly appreciates having you and that you are amongst friends. Chef Cheney's menu is a masterclass in new Nordic with signature touches like a noted emphasis on acidity levels and the creative use of lactic fermentation to stand out from the crowd. I caught myself remarking that each dish was one of, if not the, best bites I've ever had- only to be outdone by the next one. Pro tip: if you don't drink or are looking for something different, the non-alcoholic drink pairing is an experience worthy of visiting the restaurant for on its own. Long story short, the current iteration of Sons & Daughters under Chef Cheney is immaculate and what fine dining is all about. One star is criminally too low for what this experience brings to the table.

We recently dined at Sons and Daughters and I have to say it was an incredible experience! The cooking was so fresh and instantly unforgettable! It was the perfect amount of food we didn't leave feeling hungry or stuffed just well satisfied. I am constantly let down by the food in Sf as you pay so much money for meals that I don't really feel are worth the cash bit this was the exception for sure. Well worth it, an unforgettable experience and genuinely blown away by Chef Harrison and his team, they are indeed smooth operators!!!

Have you ever eaten a meal that made you want to cry? Have you experienced a meal that could only be described as "exquisite." Not delicious or great, just exquisite. My wife and ate at Sons and Daughters on Valentines Day, and this was an experience that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. I took more videos than photos, so I wish that I could show you all every dish. But let me finish with this: the experience was so out of this world, I actually did not want to eat on the following day. I wanted to hold on to that memory for as long as I could. Thank you Sons & Daughters for implanting this memory in our minds forever. I wish I had more stars to give.

Chef Harrison and the Sons & Daughters team are on a different level! This is hands down the best dining experience in San Francisco. We've been back 7 times in the last year since Chef Harrison took the reins and every time they've reinvented something new and brilliant on the menu. If you haven't been here in the last year you are frankly missing out! The unique flavors, attention to detail, and welcoming nature of the entire staff make this an unmatched experience. Better than any 2 or 3 Michelin star restaurant I've been to - this is truly underrated with only 1 Michelin star! I trust they will only grow their following under Chef Harrison, 2023's Michelin Best Young Chef in California winner.

What an amazing experience from start to finish! Our chef friend, Mychel invited us to the special dinner event. The food was spectacular and the service was top notch. Absolutely loved this restaurant! They definitely deserves more than one Michelin star. I cannot wait to go back! Thank you! Chef Harrison!

Fantastic service and super romantic (we went for Valentine's day). Each chef serves the dish and describes how the ingredients were sourced and cooked. New norwegian cuisine so truly a no waste cooking style which led to a lot of creative dishes and fantastic flavors. Also did a juice pairing and 10/10 recommend. I'm not a fan of alcohol so this was really up my alley. Loved the pear and quince juices, there was a rutabaga tea that was served which was.. very interesting on its own but tasted much better when eaten with the meal lol (it kind of tasted like a shot of elevated soy sauce? Hahah) Some dishes leaned on the salty side but overall was a great experience and would come back to try different menus :)
Be the first to ReplyEverything about the place was amazing.
The food was well balanced and flavorful. The service was spectacular for a one Michelin starred restaurant. Sons & Daughters deserves 2 stars. I would like to thank chef Harrison and the rest of the staff for the wonderful night.

Amazing food that is fresh, light, and luscious! The service and wine pairings are always top notch. You feel like you're the most important person in the room even though the restaurant is full. Easily a two michelin star experience. Chef Harrison is building a spectacular menu and sculpting a unique fine dining experience. The attention to detail is unparalleled, from the setting and cleaning of courses to opening the restroom door for you so there is no need for you to touch the handle. Team is very welcoming and genuine. David explains wine with passion whilst George make sure you're well attended. I am very excited for the future of this Resturant and Chef Harrison, I will be a repeat visitor!

We just had one of our favorite culinary experiences of our lives tonight. I can't say enough about our dinner. Every course was a home run. We've been to pretty much every 2-3 Michelin star restaurant in the Bay Area/Wine County and NYC, and many 1 stars; and S&D was near the very best for overall experience. Service, creativity, intimacy, wine pairings, what a night! At this point, we are very picky, and just being able to say one dish was extra-special makes for a great experience. S&D kept the hits coming, dish after dish. We were just in Healdsburg 2 weeks ago, SingleThread (for the fourth time), and Cyrus (wow!!), and S&D still was able to take things to a new level. EMP (when #1 in the world, before the vegan thing), Per Se, Jean Georges (back when 3 star, and now at 2 star), TFL (have been several times in past 10 years), all were lacking in comparison. Look for 2-3 stars for Harrison in the near future. Can't wait to come back!

My husband and i took one of our close friend (also one of our Godparents for a gift as a thank you for being so amazing with our 2 under 2 babies) experience this amazing restaurant. We're all about experiences and great food and have always appreciated the art & beauty in Michelin star restaurants. We have always made it a goal to eat at and experience a Michelin star restaurant once a year; this was our first time year and it blew our minds, everything from start to finish was amazing! there was not one dish we didn't like, we enjoyed every bit slowly because we wanted it to last longer and the presentation and description were all so perfect and unique. We did it with wine tasting and they were paired so well with the dishes they provided. My husband ordered coffee at the very end and we got a fun presentation of their Syphon Coffee process. Soon after my Husband and accidentally knocked over his coffee and was bummed he didn't even get enough of it. Without asking they helped cleaned up fast and even took the coffee off our bill. We didn't expect it at all and don't mind paying since it was our fault, but they still insisted and gave superb service; highly appreciated. We have eaten at 8 Michelin restaurants, and this is one of our top if not our favorite one of them all. If you ever want to experience a great tasting menu, with very friendly staff/servers (you even get personal time with the chef) and a true Michelin experience, this is one i highly recommend that will be perfect as a first, as the next, or as a continuous. We normally don't return to restaurants because we want to experience all around, but this is one we talked about where we WILL just to dine and experience it all over again with their seasonal menu that change quarterly (as we were told & excitedly planned for our next visit).

Returned for a Valentine's day meal and they've only gotten better. How do I give this place 5.5 stars?
Be the first to ReplyThis was my first Michelin and probably my last.
The food was interesting, i.e. an experience, but I can't say I left happy with the way they tasted. Of course I had exceedingly high expectations for this because for around $300 a person, this was one of the most expensive single meals I have purchased. I now wish I had spent the money on less, but better courses. The biggest issues were with the cooked meats in the main entrees. The duck and the steak had a rubbered texture. I had an extremely hard time with the duck, the skin was waxy and was overwhelmingly savory with the pate. The lukewarm temperature of the meats made me feel like I was eating something improperly cooked. :/ I gagged eating the duck meal and it threw off my perception of the entire course. The steak was also below average. It was cooked well but felt like a bland piece of lukewarm meat. I've had better steaks cooked in the comfort of my home. If I had to do it over, I would have skipped the duck and opted in for the wagyu steak. However, the seafood was excellent. I enjoyed the caviar and oyster dishes. The salmon was beautifully flakey. The buttery sauce with the scallops was paired well.My favorites were the first and last two courses, they were flavorful/packed a punch, although they were small. I am big on flavor, I am sad to see they were only emphasized on a smaller scale. Not pictured but the celery ice cream and Japanese crumbled sorbet dessert were AMAZING.I would say I enjoyed half the meals I was served. One or two of them were a miss, and the others were intriguing, but not necessarily delectable.I am not sure why I assumed all the courses would be delectable-- maybe that is not the point of 15 course meal? There was a story told through the courses, it had its highs and lows. The waitstaff was attentive.

Extremely professional and friendly staff. Enjoy an evening with friends and delicious pairings of food and wines.

Unfortunately very underwhelming, maybe the night we went, every dish was slightly off, duck with skin that was not crispy and the rest of it so hard to chew that I was chewing well into the next course. A shame because the staff were very polite and attentive. Beautiful presentation but at this price point the flavors should be pristine and pair well together. We had the fortune of enjoying a few amazing (non michelin star) restaurants our first night in SF and maybe those experiences left this one to be underwhelming by comparison.

This was an incredible dining experience and a wonderful way to celebrate the new year. I made a reservation online at 8:30 and received a text prior about food restrictions. The attention to details, specifically the questionnaire about special celebration, food restrictions, wine preference are a great example of why they have a star. I'm surprised they don't have more stars quite honestly. We were seated upon arrival and greeted with a personalized note on the table as well as glasses of champagne. They checked in with us to confirm our menu selection and my husband's preference for a seafood free menu. We chose wine pairings to add to the testing menu and I'd highly recommend doing this as they had amazing pairings that really elevated each dish. Every item was a perfect example of how incredible each ingredient can be expressed. The dishes were of course beautifully plated but more importantly each small bite was delicious and memorable. My favorites were the scallops and the porridge. I have never had a more perfect scallop in my life. My partner was really happy with his substitute - grilled kohlrabi made to look like a scallop. He gave the wonderful review that it tasted like all of the great parts of scallop without the seafood flavor. The porridge was a dish that gave me a Ratatouille (film) moment- I was transported to my grandma's house in summer as a child with that first bite. Service was excellent and again,a perfect example of what fine dining should be. Welcoming and unpretentious. I would certainly come here again to celebrate an occasion and highly recommend visiting.

Had such an incredible experience here for my birthday dinner! My husband and I really wanted to try another Michelin-starred restaurant and we were so pleasantly surprised that they had an opening. The 14-course meal was exquisite. From the presentation down to the bite. I loved that there was an option to customize the prix fixe experience with a choice of caviar or A5 Wagyu as a supplemental course. We chose the Wagyu and it was out of this world All the chefs and staff were extremely attentive. I was greeted happy birthday as soon as we entered. I loved the intimate feel and that our table had a bird's eye view of the kitchen. Their Michelin star is definitely well-deserved! The wine pairing and coffee was well worth the addition.

I have done several Michelin experiences before, but this is by far the best meal I have ever had in my life. Each course was carefully thought out and delivered with excellent precision. I will definitely be coming back in several months when there are some new items in the chef tasting menu. The wine pairing was exquisite as well. I love the ambience and the friendly chill staff. Thank you so much to the team who gave me such a wonderful evening.

A number of flavorful surprises, but I actually knew I was in for a great meal from the amuse-bouche. The staff was on point while being warm and real. Everything managed to have quality while being very authentic.

My fiancé and I had another amazing time at Sons & Daughters to celebrate his 28th birthday. Comparing the menu from March and now in July, I would say most of the menu was the same, with some differences here and there. However, I came prepared this time and came with a HUGE appetite, so I was definitely able to enjoy the variety of courses more. My absolute favorite course this time was the royal cherries with chocolate and absinthe. It was the most unique, most delicious dessert I have had, possibly, in my entire life. Kudos to Michelle, who I believe was the chef that presented this delicious course. I cannot say enough about the entire team here at Sons & Daughters, especially Julianna. She is so kind and welcoming, and it was such a pleasure to see her again. My fiancé and I will definitely be coming back, as this restaurant now has a special place in our hearts.

What an experience! Sons and Daughters provides a very intimate, but sleek atmosphere. The place isn't very large, but feels elegant. I often eat with my eyes first and the plating here is very unique and looks like art. In addition, I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of flavor packed into such a small bite especially in the appetizer course! Everything on the prefixed menu was absolutely delicious. Finally, I truly appreciated the personal touch added. It was my birthday and there was a nice, personalized note at our table when we arrived. In addition, you get a nice personalized menu at the end of your meal. The little gestures go a long way to creating the experience. My husband and I fully enjoyed the experience. The staff was very attentive and the food was so memorable. You won't be disappointed!

Can't go wrong. The food is so very good, and so beautiful. The revolving menu is always classic, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. No matter you're pallet, they have something to offer. Please add them to your list.
