We had been to the orig location in Manhattan, which was a wonderful experience. This, not so much...no wood oven perfectly cooking my pizza in 90 seconds, which means no entrees besides the pizza, too...and the steak was pretty awesome in that wood setting. Not sure why they abandoned the fire signature in the methodology. This is a TOTALLY diff product now, not even close. Disappointing. Two things stood out, neither so good. One, the service was spotty on a Thursday night when the place was pretty empty. The waiter took ten minutes to come over and start our service...but an introduction or greeting never happened. ("How can we help you?" was the greeting. With a weird look...Huh? We got menus, so just waiting for service, though, you can be a competent server, and - possibly - recognize the service delay and introduce yourself with deference to the delay, and/or just take our order...if functional service isn't your strong point.) Eventually, we got another person to serve us, but only because the first guy didn't come over for five minutes when the bell rang for our wings to be delivered to the table. We ostensibly didn't have a hot app, but a barely warm one. I could have gotten up when I saw them, but that's hindsight when the wait staff can't put 1+1 together, after the occurrence. Whatever...the wings were decent. Two, the food was salty. Not so salty you can't taste the flavors, but enough that salt was a strong residual flavor that eventually affected every bite. A salt build up, if you will. Since I had vegan cheese, the salt did step on any subtle flavor notes it might have lent the overall taste. The salt edge DID grab the salt elements of the speck and sausage, slingshotting them together for worse effect. Really, some good toppings that became directed wrongly by the dysfunctional salt level. Argh! Decent prices, and nice space...other patrons seemed to be enjoying their fare. In a smaller town, this might be a decent option. When Brooklyn offers so,many top-level pizza and Italian-American offerings, and the owner is an alumnus of Jean Georges, it's a wonder this place can ride on the name and it's former quality when the present reality is this marginal. Add in that the better waiter had recommendations for other, better pizza places nearby (as well as asking us for our other choices), and you can bet everything I've stated is already known by the staff...and others have shared similar experiences with them...next.
