Ate here for lunch the other week.
Everything tasted as amazing as it looked. Staff were very attentive. We even got a few complimentary bites which were delicious.

I brought a client here for lunch and had an okay clam chowder soup and a delicious scallop dish. We finished lunch at 1:30 as they start closing down to prepare for dinner. I left my First Republican Bank umbrella and a navy cashmere sweater n the floor under my chair, which I didn't realize until the next day. When my called for assistance the hostess said she hadn't seen it . I called back, asked for the Mananger, whom I spoke to and he told me he would check with the cleaning crew and staff but then he failed to follow-up. I emailed them to see it my belongings were found and still haven't heard back. When you pay $200 for a lunch for two people, you expect better service. I won't be back.
Be the first to ReplyWe did not enjoy our meal at spruce.
My biggest complaint is about the service. While everyone was young and well attired and engaging, it seemed like someone was coming to our table every few minutes to bring food items or drinks or to obtain some feedback. While this might be an attempt to be "attentive" and informative about the food, the frequency and the pace of the interruptions were VERY FREQUENT and quite annoying. The servers never paused to respect the attempts my guest and I were making to have a pleasant conversation. We felt very rushed and it also seemed a bit intrusive (and unnecessary). I would suggest that they either slow things down quite substantially, or resign themselves to giving less information...maybe both. My second biggest complaint would be about the food. It was merely good. The menu descriptions sounded interesting (and our waiter used superlatives to describe the food), but nothing that came to our table was not particularly interesting (with the possible exception of the bread and the wine that we had), let alone reaching the heights of "memorable" or "delicious". With all the truly outstanding restaurants in SF, I would never choose to return here and pay the prices they are asking for the food they serve. There are MUCH better meals to be had elsewhere...often for less money. My third complaint is about the music: often loud, varying in volume quite a bit from song to song. Another annoyance/distraction. The decor is appealing, and I really thought we were in for a treat when we first entered and were seated. But Spruce did not deliver beyond the first impression. In sum, I would describe Spruce as a decidedly disappointing restaurant, with the overall impression earning the pejorative descriptor "pretentious".
Be the first to ReplyWe are huge fans.
Have eaten there several times and service is always warm, welcoming and professional. We also ordered our Thanksgiving meal to-go and months later are still talking about their gravy. Their oatmeal cookie and cannoli are the best in the city.
Be the first to ReplyOh my gatos .
This place is so ridiculously good. I need two of them in socal. Preferably both in my neighborhood. Absolutely love when these epic restaurants have long hours and are open for lunch. NOT ALL OF US ARE. INTERMITTENT FASTING and only have a 4 hour eating window. Sheesh. Anyways. Service 10/10 Food 10/10 Vibe 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 I don't have complaints about anything I put in my mouth. . This joint exceeded my expectations. Bone Apple Tea

A very special place with terrific ambiance, food and service! checks all my boxes when I want to treat myself out or go with friends who want to splurge with me! I don't go as often as I'd like as a bit far from home but it's a great treat when I take the time to come out. Love this place! And they have a great bar area with lounge tables if you don't want to get a table. You won't be disappointed here at all.

I was really excited to try the so called famous burger at the Spruce after watching so many videos of it on social media. We were able to walk in and get bar seating which was great. However, when we took the first bite of our burger, it was so underwhelming. The beef tasted gamey (it almost tasted like there was liver in the beef). The english muffin buns had no flavor and it was chewy. We ordered mushrooms and carmelized onions as toppings and they were also disappointing. The mushrooms had some flavor but the onions got lost in the background. When we put in all of the toppings in the burger, we couldn't even close it, let alone, bite it without everything falling out. After paying for a $30+ burger, I'm not sure if I'll be coming back. As a foody, it was such a disappointing experience! I gave an extra star because the service was good and the space was cute.

Spruce is our "go-to" San Francisco restaurant, both when we lived in SF and now anytime we have an opportunity to travel up north. The place is always hopping, both at the bar and in the main dining room. The waitstaff know the menu cold and have helped us decide among enticing options. I love the sliced duck breast - absolute favorite. You will not regret eating at Spruce!
Be the first to ReplyTLDR: THIS is fine dining.
We just celebrated a birthday lunch here today and the experience was so wonderful that we're already planning our next visit back. The food was unique and complicated -- but not too complicated that it detracted from the taste like food can at other restaurants. The interior is absolutely stunning. Most importantly, their service was exceptional, and they know how to celebrate a birthday (or anniversary or anything else). There are 5 types of dining experiences at Spruce: 1) Dinner - 3 course meal (likely with the addition of a small amuse bouche before and petit four after) for $115 / person 2) Brunch on the weekend - 3 course meal (+ amuse bouche + petit four) for $98 / person 3) Lunch on a weekday - 2 course meal (+ amuse bouche + petit four) for $65 / person 4) A la carte bar and lounge experience with a slightly different menu 5) No one seems to talk about this but there's a little cafe / bakery next door where they sell their HUGE cookies and I bet their famous beignets and other desserts too. ------ FOOD: We came for the 2 course lunch during the week (MLK day, so we had Monday off) and I thought our two courses was definitely enough food for each of us, though we did also order a supplemental course ahead of time: FIRST COURSE: 1) [MUST TRY] Roasted Sunchoke Veloute (5/5) - This is a thick, creamy soup with super unique flavors that just warmed my soul. They presented bread service right before this was served, so I could use pieces of sourdough as a vessel to enjoy some of the buttery soup 2) Provencal Soupe au Pistou (5/5) - The other soup on the menu and another creamy soup. However instead of having a deep, buttery taste, it had a nice acidity. The beans paired nicely with the soup, and the croutons were super crunchy and not soggy at all. ENTREE: 1) [MUST TRY] Prime Petite Filet Mignon (5/5) - One of the best steaks I've had in a while. This filet mignon surprised both me and my boyfriend because of how tender, evenly cooked, and flavorful it was. Usually steaks are too chewy for my liking (even a recent cut of A5 wagyu at another restaurant didn't impress me) but this was what I want whenever I order a steak. We were also easily able to sub the fries for extra veggies, which we really appreciated! 2) Seared Ahi Tuna Salade Nicoise (4.5/5) - A delicious, healthy option that is still extremely flavorful. The 7-minute egg was cooked perfectly and was the perfect fatty touch paired with the strong, biting taste of the olive spread. I thought the spread was a little overpowering and took away from the taste of the tuna a bit, but this dish was still wonderful 3) Duck Leg Confit (4/5) - Super tender duck that fell off the bone and paired beautifully with the dish's sauce and accompanying veggies. I found this to be a little too salty for my liking which is why the 4, but had it been less so, I would have absolutely loved this. Turnips have recently become a favorite addition to my dishes recently, so I was elated to see turnips with this duck! OTHER: * They started the meal with a delicious amuse bouche - a mushroom and cheese puff. * There was also 1 thick slice of sourdough bread served to each of us before our first course. It wasn't my favorite because it wasn't warm and didn't have a crispy crust. * They came out with a birthday dessert at the end which was this luxurious, decadent chocolate hazelnut cake. It was so creamy and texturally complex -- it was such a nice birthday gift from the restaurant. * Finally, the petit four were fantastic chocolate passion fruit bonbons ------ SERVICE: * SERVICE - Wonderful service. Our waiter was extremely kind and thorough. Servers were always coming by to clear our plates, and I thought the pace of the meal was excellent. I do wish they cleared crumbs from the table between courses * CELEBRATION - We we're celebrating my bf's birthday and Spruce really knows how to celebrate a birthday. Not only were there many "happy birthdays" by various folks, but there was also a nice birthday card at the table and after we asked for the check, they surprised us with an extra birthday dessert and candle. That was as delicious as it was beautiful. This place just knows how to celebrate, and I will be coming back for future celebrations. ------ ENVIRONMENT/AMBIANCE: * INTERIOR - One of the most beautiful, contemporary, yet cozy dining spaces in SF. There's really nice natural light from skylights above, and the dark brown walls and furniture add a chocolatey warmth that levels up the space. Plus the expertly placed glass panes and mirrors give you the perfect vantage of their gorgeous bar * BAR - I would love to come some day and just get a drink + a bite (likely their famous burger) at this bar with a friend. They've sorted the bottles in various clusters of bright colors accentuated by shelve lights behind them. * PARKING - There is lots of parking around this area with newer parking meters
Be the first to ReplyAmazing ambiance and service.
Great food. Ridiculous wine list in the best sense possible. All of which made for an extraordinary experience.

My partner and I decided to get out for a nice birthday dinner. We love the ambiance and quiet atmosphere. The cocktails were excellent and the food was perfect. Listen for those specials not on the menu because that made my night to have Dungeness crab! Love the duck and beignets. Our service was excellent. Ryan met our expectations and was professional. He was very attentive and made our dining experience memorable. I'm so happy to have Spruce in my neighborhood and I'll be back again.

Amazing food ans ambiance! Be aware that the tip is already included even if you are picking up a few of the huge cookies! They neglected to point it either time we visited. Makes me hesitate to plan our large event there. Felt slimy and unprofessional.I give 5 stars because they deserve it just beware of the tipping on the tip you may have missed on the bill.
Be the first to ReplyI went to Spruce on the recommendation of a friend.
We were a party of three and all of us were underwhelmed. The staff was friendly and responsive but each dish brought to the table was a comedy of errors requiring us to direct them on who gets what. The food was disappointing for the price, albeit presented nicely on the plate. Given all the great restaurant options in the Bay Area I can only say there are many more better options at this price point.
Be the first to ReplyWe couldn't sit inside because it was completely packed.
That was the only negative but outside it was really beautiful and even though it was chilly, they had the warming lamps. Service was amazing. Everyone was so attentive and knowledgeable, super friendly and really welcoming !! When we go back to San Francisco. We will make sure to have an inside reservation this time but we will definitely be back. It was so amazing food, Staff and ambience!!

We came here to celebrate a special occasion, and it was a memorable experience. The atmosphere was upscale and sophisticated without being pretentious. I could tell that they really cared about every detail, from the lighting to the music to the plating of the dishes. We were there for dinner, which is 3 courses for $100.I got the scallops to start (supplement). They were perfectly seared and had a nice caramelization on the outside. The inside was tender and had a delicate sweetness to it that paired well with the slightly acidic sauce that came with it. It was a generous portion too, which is rare for a scallops app. It was served with leeks and potatoes that complemented the flavors of the scallops well. For my main, I got the lobster, which was the standout dish. The meat was cooked just right, not too rubbery or too mushy. It had a nice buttery flavor and was served with a light sauce that enhanced the taste without overwhelming it. This was an additional supplement as well. Finally, I finished up with the cheesecake which was a great ending to the meal. It was rich and creamy without being too heavy. The crust had a nice crunch to it that contrasted well with the softness of the cake. It was served with a berry compote that added a tartness that balanced out the sweetness of the cheesecake.Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a special night out. The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was just right. The scallops, lobster, and cheesecake were all standout dishes that I would order again in a heartbeat.

- Locale Destination - It's on Spruce st and Sacramento st in Laurel Heights, SF. Ambiance: modern yet classy, fine dining settings. Dark brown really sets the mood for it. From the beginning of the opening, the lady's bathroom was gross. My man had the same issue last time. It was really a turnoff for me. Who wants to eat at the fine dining restaurant with not-so-clean bathroom??? Hope you will fix it asap - check it before opening! Menu: dinner was pre-fix, $100/person - amuse bouche, appetizer, entree, dessert and a chocolate. I think they bring great values for fine dining setting and taste quality. Price: $100/person for this quality ain't bad. Service charge was added automatically, so no need to tip. Service: they explained the menu items too fast. Breads weren't there while entree came. Bussing was on point, dessert took a while. Service could be improved. - Gluttony Expedition - Wine: glass - Gamay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon were so good! Wine list was like a book. They seem to have a sommelier for the Bible like wine list. I'm not a fan of too many choices, but they do pick good ones. Amuse bouche: fantastic! Breads: olive bread was awesome. Butter wasn't as good as the one at Pasjoli. Appetizers: MONTAUK FLUKE CRUDO: SHIRO DASHI, PINK LEMON, VERJUS. Fish was fresh, sauce was acidic and too light. Meh. SEARED HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS: MELTED LEEKS, AMAROSA POTATOES, CAVIAR VIN BLANC. Best dish! Great combination of flavors, perfect grilling, just awesome! Entrees: PISTACHIO AND CORIANDER-CRUSTED DUCK BREAST BRÛLÉED RUTABAGA AND POACHED QUINCE, CRISPY SPINACH: coriander was a good compliment to duck. It was medium rare, but I prefer a bit more red. Duck jus and duck breast were good, but nowhere near the one at Pasjoli in Santa Monica -!the same token of 1 Michelin star. Crispy spinach really add a nice texture and flavor. Good. Ribeye: awesome! Desserts: CRÈME FRAÎCHE CHEESECAKE: CITRUS JAM, HONEYCOMB TUILE. Light and yummy cheesecake with blood orange. Great! DARK CHOCOLATE ENTREMET: COFFEE CREAM, CANDIED HAZELNUTS. Very rich overall, but great flavor combinations and textures. Good! - Conqueror's Deduction - $100/person pre-fix was a deal. Refined tasty food, great wine selection, good menu options - great value! Portion might be small but it was perfect for me. Michelin star worthy - try it! Service could be better. Please clean/check the bathroom.
Be the first to ReplyCame here to try their famous burger and I have to say it
Came here to try their famous burger and I have to say it disappointed. Let's start with the positives. The service was phenomenal. They accommodated my group of 6 without a reservation within 30 minutes. As soon as we were sat someone immediately took our drink order. The house-made English muffin bun works great and is original. I, however, ordered my burger medium rare and it came out nothing shy of medium well. Although their aioli was a fantastic dip for the fries, to me it fell flat as a spread for the burger. When you're charging lofty prices for a dish that can be so well crafted at a lower price price point the end result at a place like this has to be both unique and perfectly executed. Also, 4 out of the 6 of us ended up getting food poisoning. If they had comped more than just the one appetizer maybe I would give this place another chance. It feels wrong to spend over $500 on a meal to then lose it later that night.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Valentines day! So late on my mini review.
But what a beautiful place and the boy they had phenomenal service!!. You get complimentary bread as well but don't stuff your self to much you want to eat the food. Everything was good and the portion size was great! I definitely satisfied all my cravings. Though the cocktails could have been better.

We stumbled upon Spruce on a neighborly stroll one evening and discovered a gem. The ambience and service is high class yet it feels laid back and comfortable. The 3-course prix fixe menu is filling so there is no need to order extras. We ended up going with the gnudi, scallops, halibut, and duck, beignets, and cheesecake. The duck sauce is slightly sweet so recommend to have it on the side. We both really liked the scallops. Our server Brianne was very and attentive and answered all our questions patiently. Thanks for a wonderful dining experience!

Spruce offers a top-tier dining experience - from the ambience to the wait staff to the food, it was all impeccable. Make a reservation ahead of time to ensure a spot if possible, but their bar seating is also a great experience.Spruce rotates their menu around, and updated version can also be located on their site. Our meal started off with complimentary bread, then came the first course. The ricotta gnuddi is very similar to gnocchi, and the lemon-brown butter sauce was quite lemony. We ordered extra scallops which was an additional cost to the $12 supplement. The stuffed chicken breast was interesting in that there were competing flavors. The pink lady apple was a sharp contrast to the chicken, and the mustard jus was a unique pairing. Overall, the dish was still delicious.

"The truffle might blow away!" - WaitressMy overall experience was excellent at Spruce in San Francisco (SF). My guest and I were outside in SF (which we all know is cold), but they were able to turn on the heat lamps. From the perfect pacing of food to the hilarious wait staff, everything about Spruce was perfection. I will, however, say that this was the BOUGIEST brunch I have ever been to in my entire life and the price perfectly matched it. Definitely will be going back whenever I can get back to San Francisco. Thank you Ireri for the great service!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and ambience.
I had salmon which was over cooked and a bit greasy. I would have expected better tasting food.
Be the first to ReplyThe food and service here was excellent.
I came here for dinner on a Monday night and there was plenty of street parking. They will not seat you until your reserved time which is fine. The upgrade to the scallops was very good and buttery. The lamb breast was cooked to perfection. I didn't care for the dessert choices but I couldn't eat another bite by that time. They did give complementary bread of choice with salted butter. I particular liked the olive bread and the brioche. I would definitely come again!
