Top notch food and service!
Such a great spot - from the ambience, seating, music, service, and food, St. Anselm was top-notch. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and provided awesome suggestions. The pimento cheese biscuits and steaks were all a hit. We had a butcher steak, new york strip, and a ribeye. Everyone seemed to love the ribeye the most. The wedge salad was also a great choice!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely delicious - definitely worth visiting!
From before I even booked my flight to go to DC from where I am in the UK, I had heard excellent things about St Anselm, and knew that I had to check it out for myself, and needless to say, I was absolutely amazed by how great it is! For my starter, I tried the buttermilk biscuits with pimento cheese, which was really tasty - the biscuits were cooked to perfection and were lovely and light, and the cheese was super fresh too. I chose the 18 oz. prime T-Bone steak for my main, with the bacon-fried mashed potatoes as a side, and it was absolutely delicious - perfectly cooked to medium rare as I requested, and the meat was excellently succulent and tender. I then had the toasted marshmallow ice cream as my dessert, which had a really nice flavour and was very smooth. I was informed that it's made in-house, which is another definite plus. I guess the only regret I have is that I didn't get the chance to visit St Anselm more than once during my time in DC, but that's okay - I know exactly where I'm going for a steak the next time I'm in town.

Wonderful dinner, great recommendation by the sommelier and the most amazing service by Joe! Overall great atmosphere and perfect if you want to experience modern American Southern cuisine.

Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner at St Anselm’s
We ate at the bar and our server/bartender was Chris. He was very knowledgeable about both food and beverages. This guy knows his stuff. We shared a salad, entree and dessert. This is one of our best meals while in DC for a week. Make reservations!!
Be the first to ReplyBrunch & Dinner in Washington, DC
Came here twice last weekend while staying in the area—overall had a good experience. Both times were walk-ins but there were available seats at the bar. Nice vibe at the bar! Food wise—would recommend the New York Strip and Salmon Collar, both well flavored. The Baby Iceberg was okay too—comes with a huge thick bacon strip! The bar looks fully stocked, with lots of good quality bourbons & whiskey. The Irish Coffee is a nice brunch cocktail.
Be the first to ReplyTop notch steak joint
Tone of the top steak houses in NYC second behind Keens in my book great food but not overly inflated prices major steak house quality but in funky Brooklyn vibe joint known for butcher steak which rocks as primo flank skirt like steak but tomahawk for two also superb sit at bar and watch the women chefs cook over flame

Steaks were served super fast and they were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The wait staff was incredibly friendly. This place is 5 star….and you don’t have to “dress up”
Be the first to ReplyBAD SERVICE - GOOD FOOD
Our first time here was to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday with friends, and the service was terribly poor. We were pushed to put all of our food in at one time. Our waitress did not pay attention to us and lied to us several times about the food items. It was worthless to speak to the manager since he did not see a problem with what she was doing. She did not listen to us and kept walking away from the table. Despite her inattentiveness, the food was awesome!
Be the first to ReplyGood restaurant baad salad
This is an incredibly popular restaurant and many of the breakfast options are good. However, be aware the farmhouse salad is terrible. Must have been an off day… Service is set up so everyone is doing some part of the work. The system isn’t tight so be prepared to wait.

Went with family. Good service, good food. Will visit agin when in the area. Good atmosphere, with great background music.
Be the first to ReplyWONDERFUL SERVICE
We chose St Anselm's for a special occasion. The atmosphere was perfect with not too much noise, and the service staff was most attentive, bringing us our menu choices. The food was well cooked and presented and delicious to taste. I would recommend it for special occasions, not a regular family meal.
Be the first to ReplyWAITRONS PAR EXCELLANCE!
This was my first visit to this restaurant. The food was delicious, I had the salmon collar, and the rest of the party had steaks. These were cooked to perfection and tasty. The portions were huge, we had sides of corn and broccoli, and the corn on the cob was the tastiest I have had in years. But what impressed me the most was the knowledge of the wine waitron, as she was able to give a full description of the wine choices without having to refer to anything. The serving waitron was attentive, and we lacked nothing, so we could enjoy a special meal out.

First time at this restaurant and enjoyed a very hearty meal. Excellent food and service. Only complaint was that the price of liquor seems steep, even for a DC establishment. Great selection of bourbon, but $27 a glass? I don't think so/
Be the first to ReplyNice Family Gathering
We enjoyed our dinner however we were packed in . There were 13 of us. Service was excellent , food was very good. I would like to go back but on a week night with less crowds.
Be the first to ReplyOne of DC's hidden gems
A perfect place for a date night, just outside of DC. Reserved a private booth, and enjoyed the best meal we've had in months. The atmosphere was cozy; jackets and dinner dresses at one table, jeans and t-shirts at another. Certainly a high-end feel.
The waitress and food were top notch. Well-informed waitress left us with no unanswered questions, guided us on a few menu items, and we really enjoyed a great meal. Our drinks were always half-full, and our table was cleaned promptly as plates were emptied.
The biscuits were flaky, buttery and the homemade pimento cheese was an excellent compliment. I had a delicious ribeye, and my date had fish. Both were cooked to perfection, and had a savory flavor.
Great Brunch
Bloody Mary, Monkey Bread, Steak & Eggs - what a great way to kick off a Sunday- and then walk around Union Market area which just keeps getting better and better. Next time - and there will be a next time, we want to get the chicken sandwich and french toast that our table next to us got. Great place.
Be the first to ReplyTwice in three days: one time was great, the other mediocre
St. Anselm is one of my favorite restaurants in DC. That is why it was strange to have a mediocre experience there a couple of weeks ago. The server tried really hard but it was clear he was inexperienced. I ordered a glass of wine before dinner and it never arrived. (I was not charged for it.) I ordered both a white and red wine and he opened the red first for me to taste and poured about a teaspoon in the glass for me to sample. (I am serious -- a teaspoon.). I would have done the opposite - open and fast the white first. The restaurant was VERY noisy, far more than I remember. This was a Sunday so it might have been an off night. Good news is that just a couple of days later I had the usual great meal there with attentive service.
Be the first to ReplyFamily Meal
We dined at the restaurant while visiting family in DC. This was our second visit and we were as pleased as on our first. We ordered a lot of food - biscuits & pimento, blue crab deviled eggs, heritage bacon, branzino, skate wing, lamb leg steak, smashed potatoes, spinach and mushrooms. Everything was delicious. The branzino came as a large whole fish but it was de-boned and easy to eat. It could have fed two of us. The skate wing was light and tasty and the lamb very good. The blue crab deviled eggs and biscuits were the best. Although expensive for our Midwest tastes the meal was worth it to share with family.
Be the first to ReplyAtmosphere: fun lively tavern feel. Service: excellent. Food: very good
On vacation, my friend and I dined here on a Monday night at 7:15. When we arrived, the place was filled with diners both inside and out. The host greeted us and sat us at a table directly under the air conditioning vent, we ask to change tables and they were very accommodating. The atmosphere was like an old fashion, tavern steak house with quirky decor elements like the different plates. Stephen was our server, excellent, very friendly, informative and attentive.
We ordered cocktails while perusing the menu. When on vacation and trying new places, my friend and I like to share so we can try all the different dishes. We started off with the Beef Tartare with the Calabrian Chilis and the Endive Salad with Walnuts, Smoked Blue Cheese, Anchovy Vinaigrette. For the main dish we ordered the Salmon Collar with lemon, garlic butter and the Prime 16 oz. Ribeye. The tartare and salad were delivered first, both tasting great. The salmon and steak came next, salmon cooked perfectly and steak to our medium rare request, again, both tasting great!
So glad I was able to get reservations as they only book out a week at a time... it was well worth it!
Atmosphere: fun lively tavern feel. Service: excellent. Food: very good
Best of the Best
To the staff, Thank you for making our evening at St A so memorable. The staff led by Carlos, waiter, and Megan, Sommelier, made the best recommendations for our family to enjoy a best of the best dining experience. Our steaks were unbelievable! We constantly said all night, “this is the best ______ I have ever had”, comments referenced service, steak, salmon, wine and biscuits . My family was so pleased.
Be the first to ReplyBest french toast ever
Went for brunch with friends. I had the french toast. It was hands down the best I have ever had. Ever. In my life.
Service and atmosphere were great.
We had reservations, but just stopped in while we were at Union Market to see if they could seat us early. They did and were very accomodating.
St. Anselm-5-Star
St. Anselm was recommended by great friends who didn’t steer us wrong - due to COVID we haven’t been to a restaurant in 6-months and wow, this was the place to start. Everything was perfect. The pimento biscuits should be on the controlled substance list. Salads fresh and amazing and the beef and tuna perfectly prepared. Great wine list and the biggest selection of madeira on the east coast. Price and value is amazing for a dining experience of this caliber. Odd location but well worth the trip- don’t miss this DC gem
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food! COVID-19 prévention best practice!
We had brunch at St Anselm today and we were very impressed by the excellent management of the COVID-19 pandemic: temperature check, contact tracing for all guest, and plenty of space between the outdoor tables. If all restaurants and other businesses would follow similar disciplined approaches, we would be in a much better health situation.
And food was delicious. Their buttermilk biscuits are to die for and no wonder every single table ordered them!
Tried the biscuits, pimento, bacon, mashed potatoes, and spinach
Great care in differentiating products from other restaurants. You get what you pay for, and in this case, that means QUALITY!
