Really enjoyed this pub just across the street from the flat we stayed at. Good casual environment with very friendly staff. The first night was a couple pizzas, flat iron steak, and pork belly. Overall good food which brought us back for a couple take away pizzas the next evening on a rainy night.

The Lord Stanley does good food, wine and a range of ales/beers. It ain't cheap but good things often aren't. It is a beautiful old pub and can feel really cosy. At times it can feel a little on the 'smug pub' side both from staff and punters. Overall pretty good hidden posh local.

The Lord Stan is my local and hence go-to place when we want to go out, but don't want to go far. The food is excellent and I haven't had a bad meal there in years. The staff is much friendly and helpful than the staff years back. Beer selection could be a bit better as they don't seem to rotate much. Alfie the pub cat is also the best pub cat ever.
Be the first to ReplyA great little local.
It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's spacious and has a garden out back. I loved the church steeple looming over our view. The beer selection, for my taste, could have been better. They had 4 cask ales that were all not terribly different, but decent nonetheless. The food was great. We had a turkish pizza with ground lamb, feta, and coriander. Think and crispy base, kind of like lavash. The spiced aubergine and flatbread starter was also tasty. The Lord Stanley was recommended to us by our AirBnB hosts. Though we've lived in London it was never in this area so it's great to get a local's suggestion.

A pub, a pub - well what can I tell you about a British pub? I'm sure you've seen hundreds of them in your lifetime already? So what to expect here at The Lord Stanley;Well, I though it was a bit pretentious for a pub and the service was suuuuuuper slow! The menu (for both food & wine) is way better than you'd expect in a pub; all sorts of different wines that you can order per glass and more high end cuisine than your traditional 'Bangers & Mash' or 'Fish & Chips' pub grub. But alas, as good as it looks on paper - you cannot eat the written word and when you DO taste.... A fancy description for not so fancy food I'm afraid. To be fair, I'm just eating a thin piece of steak with mustard & mayonnaise for £9,40; not some huge Angus with exquisite dressing. The "pea mint foam" is a dash of pea mash, come on you guys. Ordering a particular red wine - "No sorry, we don't have that I'm afraid". Ordering a different one "No sorry, don't think we have it". Can I perhaps ask you to check please, maybe you do have it? I got the shrugging shoulder.... OK, well then just a sparkling water for me then I guess.... Four drinks + one sandwich = +£30.I think The Lord Stanley is A-OK if you just bear in mind to look passed the 'fancieness' they'd like to portray and consider it to be just 'a pub' and be prepared to pay more than you expect. The PLUS: they have a lovely garden! Really really nice surprise!
Be the first to ReplyI live locally to this pub and have been many times.
A great place to share a beer, and a nice beer garden for the summer, but do NOT EVER eat here. Having said that I have dined here many times with the food ranging from ok to not very nice: Over-priced fatty steaks served as prime cuts, the pasta is sometimes not too bad and occasionally the fish is edible. However last weekend (after promising myself never to eat here again) I saw oysters on the menu and thought, wow, these guys have upped their game. Maybe they've changed chefs - and the steak is even more expensive, so maybe they've finally started buying some nice cuts. I ordered both immediately. They oysters weren't the most pleasant, but I was mainly (and stupidly in hindsight) more disappointed with the steak which seemed to be cut from the cow's knee. or possibly just above the hoof. Whatever it was, there was more ligament than meat and I left half of it on the plate. Unfortunately all of this ramble is leading up to the fact that I spent the next 3 days in bed with food poisoning (presumably from the Oysters). I wrote to them to tell them what their food had done to me and I've still received no response. Hopefully this review will stop others from making the same mistake as I did. If you decide to go anyway: definitely do not eat the oysters. Only an idiot would do such a thing at a 3rd rate establishment anyway.

..you are ok.The menu appears to have some spunk, but the actual results are a bit disappointing. The roasted sardine and onion dish was tasty, but the onions were so tart they took away from the fish. I also had the pigeon risotto and was similarly unaffected. Both dishes lacked the extra flair to make the meal truly memorable.:(

It's nice to be able to update a review and upgrade a rating. They deserve it, too.Gone are the surly staffers who poured you a pint and made you cry. They've been replaced by nice and reasonably engaging people. The food's much improved as well and is now tasty and well-prepared.I consider the Lord Stanley a great addition to the neighbourhood.

Love this local gastro pub, nice civilised crowd and good wine selection. I always have trouble with the menu because there are always at least 3 options I want!
Be the first to ReplyNice layout.
Some staff nice others sometimes rude. Food also good and sometimes lacking. Steak is amazing though.

I came here twice in the summer of 2011, to have a coffee before going to the theatre upstairs. I thought the bartenders were alright, even if the service was slow. The bar itself is invitingly spacious and gets a lot of light. If you want a relatively quiet pub in Camden Town to have a chat with someone, this one seems pleasant and relaxed. The crowd seems to be random locals of various demographic groups, but generally thirtysomethings.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is top notch.
Seriously the best steak and chips I've ever had, and the standard of the other dishes we had between us was excellent! Otherwise it's a very nice place: good atmosphere, the decor and the building is lovely, good crowd, good and interesting wine list. The only negatives are the small real-ale range (albeit well kept, but this really isn't a drinkers pub, which is a shame) and the slightly off service, which wasn't bad but we never felt we were looked after or that any of the people serving were that attentive, it was hard to get service at the bar (e.g. no one else waiting at the bar, the sole member of the staff fiddling with something by the till for a good few minutes without even the occasional glance around not good!). Shame, but I'll be back despite that for the food!
