Had a 5pm reservation - showed up at 4:55pm and was immediately seated. A bruins game just got out so there was a line of people out the door. It's a fun atmosphere - there are mafia movies playing on TVs which strike me as an odd choice for restaurant decor. Like most North End restaurants that are basically one room with 35 people, it gets very loud. Hostess and wait staff were very attentive and efficient. You need to put your order for apps and entrees together. Many restaurant kitchen software systems require this as it parses out the orders to the different areas of the kitchen. Bread was great with olive oil and a high end thick balsamic. TastyCesar salad was good as were the truffle fries. The chicken Parmesan was good. Heavily breaded. The rigatoni vodka in the cheese wheel was ok. The actual vodka sauce and rigatoni are prepared in the kitchen and vodka is flambéd in the cheese wheel. As theatrical and fun as this is, the flavors were just ok. Had a glass of the Multipuciano which was my dessert.

Made a reservation for a birthday dinner, was told that the party before had already paid and the staff was waiting for them to leave, and we waited for a hour past the reservation time despite the written communication in every reservation that there is a 90 minute cap. Hostess kept saying "we're doing everything we can," which was a lieThey made us wait in the pizzeria next door and that they would come get us when the table was ready. Not once did they update us and we had to keep walking over for updates.

The ambiance is fun but the food sucks. Most recently we had a 9:30 reservations, which had a 90 minute limit. We were on time but they didn't seat us until 10, and told us it would only be 60 minutes now. We left and we to cantina instead. Poor planning.
Be the first to ReplyWorst service I've ever had, honestly.
Our reservation was bumped because a famous housewife reality show person and her party stopped in and one of the waiters went nuts trying to find them drinks and a table while they waited for their real table. I've never witnessed such chaos in a restaurant - the hostess left in tears at one point. I rate Strega on a par with Olive Garden - except Olive Garden has better service orientation. An utter waste of $260 meant to celebrate a special birthday. The Varano Group should be ashamed.

She is the only saving grace. Five stars to her only, give the girl a raise!!!We had a reservation. It took us 45 minutes to get seated, and then the kitchen was closing so they rushed us to order. We ordered lemon ricotta and truffle fries for apps. Rosanna (I think was her name?) brought us a meatball and truffle fries because she said they were out of lemon ricotta. She said, "I figured a meatball was the next best thing." What if we were vegetarians? Then a different food runner brought out lemon ricotta and truffle fries, which was weird because Rosanna told us they were out. It seems there is a lack of communication between the kitchen and dining room. The ambiance was also jarring - every minute and a half the song was changed abruptly, and the guests and waitstaff also danced for a few minutes randomly. That's fun but I'd appreciate not getting hit in the head with the napkin that people are waving around. All in all, I won't be back. I'm glad people seem to enjoy working there, but we didn't enjoy eating there.

One of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had in my entire life. We went for a friends birthday. Our reservation was at 7:30 and they made us go stand in the pizza place next door for 30 minutes. We ordered apps for the table (probably 8 dishes total) and drinks. When we said that we were not planning on ordering meals they flipped a switch and instantly had an attitude. Our group frequents the north end and this is normal for people to get apps and drinks. The waiter ignored us for the remainder of the night, would not let us order any other drinks because they were trying to rush through. He would not even come to the table. He brought over the check after being there for 35 minutes without asking if we were done. We asked why we were not allowed to order more drinks and the manager said "it's implied if you are coming here on a Saturday night you are spending $100 per person." A completely appealing thing to say- if you are expecting that you should be writing that somewhere. Also, if we stayed we each would have had 2-3 drinks total... probably ending up spending more than $100 per person including the apps. We were still sitting at the table and the brought the new tablecloths and essentially kicked us out because we weren't spending enough money. I have simply never had this horrible of an experience at any restaurant. The apps we had were good-ish, but nothing to write home about. There are a million other restaurants in the North End, so find any of those to go to over Strega. I am appalled.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on 3/4/2023 for my girls birthday dinner .
We had been looking forward to a lovely meal in the North End for weeks . We were aware it may be tough to find a place to during dinner time and as a walk in without a reservation on a Saturday night but we're pleasantly surprised when we arrived at Strega to be seated almost immediately . Soon after was where things took a turn for the worse...Our waiter was a very nice gentleman who was prompt with our drinks , taking our order , check etc . However the food we were served was not worth the $30 a plate . Pollo Parmagiana that was frigid cold. Cold pasta , cold chicken , and very bland . More like something I could've made at home after a night out drinking and coming home to cook drunk at 2am. The Limoncello Chicken was even worse . Chicken tasted FUNKY ,Super chewy , rubbery , cold , and damn near inedible. Very disappointed. Would not return . I've worked in the service industry for 25+ years so I hate to complain but I this was a real buzz kill because it was the birthday girls special night out . The waiter and host were the only reason I gave it 2 stars which to be honest is a testament to good help/staff these days but the food would've been a negative if I could've rated that low. Won't be back next time we go out for dinner in the north end we would've been better off flushing the money down the toilet because that's where the food should've gone

Very disappointed!I booked a reservation for Friday night at the Hanover Street location for my son's 19th birthday. After receiving the text with all stipulations, we were excited none the less as I've dined at Strega many times. I was completely irritated when we were seated right next to the bathroom at such a small table. Both my children are 6'4. I asked if we could move and she said no, even though there were empty tables. The hostess and waiter acted as though he couldn't be bothered. My son ordered the Parmesan Wheel pasta which was the main reason we chose Strega. The waiter was in the middle of the restaurant and called over, I can't get the cart over to your table and called my son over to grab his plate from the middle of the restaurant??It's not the type of service we expected from a high end restaurant. We decided to gave desert and coffee elsewhere. I'm sure you won't care about by complaints, but thought I'd write it non the less. Judging by the other reviews it seems as though I'm not the only one.

Overall, we had a very poor experience when we went to celebrate our friend's birthday. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait for over an hour in the pizza place next door. They didn't even have the courtesy to give us a heads up that they were running that far behind when we checked in. Once we were finally seated it took a while for someone to actually come take our drink order. The food was decent but not worth the wait and the service was fine but nothing to rave about.
