Succotash Prime is always a good time.
Lots of energetic and lively people as well as staff. The food is pretty good as well. Also, I believe they have the longest running happy hour. It runs until 8PM. The deviled eggs are extremely good. The is a little bacon surprise in them. I intend to go back.

I'm knocking off stars due to hostess service, which bordered in insulting.I was there for a private dinner in a reserved room. I approached the hostess desk upon arrival and was told someone would show me to the dining room. I waited and then reapproached and waited - over 15 minutes. Eventually I left and wandered the restaurant on my own to find the private dining room. We spent many thousands of dollars there so I was shocked by this lack of hostess service. The hostess stand was moderately busy - there definitely was traffic's but not some long line - I never waited for the hostess' attention - she just wouldn't seat even when there were other people staffing the hostess stand. For food - because it was large group dinner, we had prearranged order of wide variety of food. I doubt I can remember everything we had, the highlights in my minds were:-- deviled eggs--. Fried oysters - awesome! --. Skirt steak really good-- salmon pretty good --. Shrimp and grits tasty--. Waffles on chicken waffles were amazing; the chicken was meh --. We had dessert - just ok- but I was also so full so couldn't really enjoy itWe had a gluten free diner in our group, and I was very impressed with our waiters willingness and graciousness in ensuring options outside our menu picks for this diner. May seem petty to dock stars for hostess but since this was a business that she made me quite late for, it really is unacceptable. If she really were too busy to accompany she could easily have given me directions- but she wouldn't even do that.

The ambiance is beautiful but the food is not very good and definitely not true Southern cooking. The cornbread is tasteless, they only offer dark meat chicken that is average, and they add bourbon to ruin the syrup on an otherwise adequate (but cold) chicken and waffles. The flank steak tasted like propane. And no sweet tea. If you are looking for fine Southern dining in DC, Georgia Brown's is a far better bet. Equal aesthetic and MUCH better food.

I was looking for a happy hour spot and stumbled upon this amazing spot, like how many places do you know in DC with HH until 8pm? We made a reservation so we're seated immediately upon arrival. The interior is really pretty and there's ample space upstairs and downstairs. The menu and ordering was all done online. We had the deviled eggs (yummy), old bay mac n cheese (very yummy) and chicken and waffles (yummy) with fries. Also got the glass bell punch which was a very refreshing and fruity cocktail that was actually a generous pour. I think I preferred the Mac n cheese the best, and just wish the chicken that came with the waffles was a tard but less crunchy. The staff was nice and friendly, and the music was nice volume. Definitely stop by for the extended happy hour and cute ambiance.

Came for a late night dinner prior to closing. Sat at a bar table with online ordering. Food came quickly, was hot and tasted good. The hot oyster starters were great! Not too crowded for a Friday night! Lively but not packed.
Be the first to ReplyGreat happy hour, and great service.
Special shout out to the manager (Scott, I think?) who was so attentive and willing to help us when we could not figure out the way the billing system worked. But every person who we interacted with was lovely. It is so rare to see good customer service, and what a treat it was.
Be the first to ReplyAmbiance 5/5The interior design is stunning.
The dim lighting with the candles and the smooth playlist in the background make for the perfect dinner date. A+ for cleanliness in the bathroom.Food 4/5I ordered three courses: hot fried oysters as an appetizer, delta rice bowl as an entree, and banana pudding for dessert. The hot fried oysters came with a warning of being extra spicy, and I was up for the challenge. It arrived on a small toast with a ranch purรฉe to assist with the heat. I enjoyed the spice and crunchy texture. Now with the entree, chileeee it taste like they slightly missed the mark. It was the only vegetarian option, and it was like a sad attempt at a rice bowl from an Asian restaurant. It would've been delicious had they put their southern spin on it by blackening the tofu or something, but the sweet and sour taste of the sauce threw me off. I needed another course to end on a high note, and I'm so glad I did because the banana pudding was so good, smooth, and buttery. Smaller bites of vanilla wafers would've been a good touchService 5/5Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They shared the specials once we sat down to help with the decision process. All the food arrived promptly, and they changed our utensils for each course.I recommend it, and I'd come back!

Wow! We started the evening with cornbread and deviled eggs appetizers. Chefs kiss. Then the Cactus Lover Cocktail (a little sweet for my liking). Then the best Shrimp and Grits I've ever eaten in my life. I cannot get over it - buttery, tangy, spicy, delicious. Fantastic service and a beautiful classy ambiance.

Succotash is a gem for it's ambiance--an old-school bank--and upscale Southern food, which is a rarity in the district. In terms of service, it was mediocre. The hostess refused to seat me until more members of my party arrived, leaving me awkwardly standing in the entryway, blocking the hostess stand, for 15 minutes because I arrived maybe 5-10 minutes early. Our waiter was attentive at first, for perhaps the first half of the meal, but when it came time to pay we waited so long we eventually had to flag down another server to get our bill and then again flag down someone else to take our card. I had dined there once before three years ago where they brought my billfold back missing my credit card. When I inquired, they seemed wholly unconcerned that they had lost my card, and, eventually, it was discovered by the couple at the table next to us, who had thankfully heard our whole ordeal, in their billfold. As this was so long ago now, I try not to hold it against them, but the two occasions of struggling to pay left a sour taste. The fried oysters were delicious, though I appreciated my waiter's warning that they were spicy--they were. Not for the faint of heart! I also thoroughly enjoyed the deviled eggs, though the bacon jam one was much better than the other. I would NOT recommend the Hummingbird cake, though. It look delicious in photos online, and I have a sweet tooth, but this $13 behemoth of a slice of cake was incredibly dry, underfrosted with an odd sticky frosting, and oversized. I wanted a box to bring home the extra, because it was so expensive and I had so much left, but because our waiter disappeared and we simply wanted our check I gave up and left over half the dessert on the table. My friend had the chocolate ganache waffle, which was not, as I expected, a waffle with ganache on it, but a waffle made of ganache, and I was supremely jealous--she let me taste it and it was the dessert to order.
Be the first to ReplyI went for brunch.
I was able to be seated quickly without a reservation on the first floor. I had the French toast. It was good. I believe it's cooked in Frosted Flakes. Which is a different touch, but it turned out good. It came with berries and a sauce drizzled on top. There was so much on it, that it didn't need syrup. Which is a good thing to me. My friend had the chicken and waffles. He said the waffles were great but the chicken was just ok. The decor and setup is beautiful. I had the Belles Kiss to drink. It was very tasty. I will be going back.

Our family dined here for dinner during a vacation trip to DC. We love southern food & this place was the best. The dirty chicken, collards, cheese grits with sausage gravy, & creamy corn succotash were ridiculously tasty. My wife really enjoyed the fried green tomato salad & my kids loved their chicken & waffles + delta rice bowl. For dessert, don't miss the bourbon pecan pie or chocolate ganache waffles. Our wonderful server, Eyasu made these suggestions (& also suggested adding the mint julep ice cream) which made the meal pure heaven.Wonderful ambiance, great environment, & welcoming staff. Thank you Succotash Prime.

My husband picked this spot, I over looked it on yelp because the reviews and pics weren't pulling at my taste buds. But I was hungry, Succotash was close and I normally can find something I like anywhere. The large front door, high ceilings and nice ambiance made me a little excited. However the aesthetics didn't match the food or service honestly. Our waiter was nice, but service was very slow. The two stars are for our waiter staying pleasant despite being busy and the aesthetics of the restaurant. The food was a disappointment. I will never let hubby pick another restaurant on the whim. I got the catfish, bacon jam deviled eggs, fries, kimchi and collards. If you go here expecting real southern food or real southern fried catfish you will be disappointed. The catfish was very basic, I ate it all because I was starving and it was edible. The fries were aight but the ketchup seemed to be homemade or something was added to it. There was almost like a floral or lavender type of flavor to it that was off putting. The kimchi and collards were not amazing. I LOVE kimchi and collard separately and I eat collards and cabbage together but the kimchi and collards together, at this spot just were not hitting the spot. The deviled eggs were the best part but they weren't really special either. They seemed to be confused about how to cook steak. Some of the guys asked for medium. The ribeye was basically raw and the fillet mignon was WELL done. They ended up taking bother off our tab(which was appreciated). Both didn't even want another steak.I left a little salty and disappointed. Unfortunately, I won't be back.

Had a great night out hosting clients from overseas and Succotash was the perfect choice for our last meal in town! The ambiance was a crowd pleaser, the drinks were delicious and the service was top notch. Destinee was super attentive and friendly.Foodwise it was a hit with my party. I got the only vegan option on the menu, the rice bowl, which was surprisingly good! The tofu was well seasoned and cooked, and the whole thing worked well together. My party got the chicken and waffles, the catch of the day, and the pork ribs.We ended the meal with dessert as well; banana pudding and cake.My only feedback here would be: please add at least 1 (or more) vegan menu options and at least one vegan dessert! We had a guest who was lactose intolerant as well as myself and we couldn't eat any of the desserts. Having some small plates (appetizers) too that everyone can share regardless of dietary restriction would be nice.
Be the first to ReplyAfter watching Edward Lee on Top Chef Texas and finding him
After watching Edward Lee on Top Chef Texas and finding him hilarious, we endured DC rush hour traffic to try Succotash Prime. We opted for the Taste of the South, which is a $59 five-course tasting menu. The good:- Deviled eggs: excellent flavor, and I especially liked the additions of bacon jam and green tomato that gave them a little extra oomph that set them apart from other deviled eggs I've had. I also appreciated the extra filling underneath the eggs, which made me feel like I was getting more bang for the buck - Shrimp and grits: very generously sauced with great flavors. The addition of dill and "holy trinity" of veggies made the flavors sing and lightened up an otherwise heavy dish. I do wish there were more shrimp though, four doesn't seem like enough - Chicken and waffles: deliciously crispy chicken, sweet crunchy waffle, with a thoughtful inclusion of pickled okra to complete the flavor profile. It was a satisfying bite with all elements included- The service was exceptional. Our server, Elias, was very knowledgeable and gave us detailed descriptions of each course. He also made sure that the courses progressed seamlessly, with little to no downtime in betweenThe bad:- Steak: our least favorite course, the steak was a little overcooked and underseasoned. We felt like this course could have been substituted for something more southern and "in line" with everything else on the menu, like the crispy catfish- Succotash: loved the flavor and the curry-like sauce, hated the excessive Lima beans. Less Lima beans, more corn please!Overall: 4.5/5, I can definitely see myself coming back here for some dope southern food

Very classy space with bar offering happy hour, live music and fusion soul food. I recommend making reservations in advance and ordering the old bay mac n cheese, crab cake, and hummingbird cake for dessert. I'd reconsider ordering the kimchi greens and catfish.

I've had one too many bad experiences here can't even get into all the details. Do not recommend the DC location due to terrible service. Once waited 50 mins for a table (was quoted a 40-min wait) at dinner time then when I went to check when we would be seated, the host said she had no idea when a table would be available. This is after watching several groups come after us and get seated. We initially assumed they had a reservation. After asking management to figure it out immediately, we were seated (at tables the host said didn't exist but we could literally see). Then had to rush ordering because the kitchen was closing in 15 mins. No apologies or acknowledging the terrible service. Another time had to basically service myself - had to get my own straws, get up to ask for utensils, then get up to ask for napkins (because why wouldn't they come with the utensils), had to ask for small plates, asked for a manager to come and he never did. Spoke to another manager and he never followed up. The bartender Aneera (not sure how to spell it) was great. She acknowledged the subpar service and we had a respectful conversation giving our concerns and feedback. Unfortunately, I think it'll still be a while before/if I come back. The poor service far outweighs anything in the menu.

My friends and I took a chance and stopped in here for brunch while visiting Washington D.C. during Memorial Day weekend. We were seated right away despite not having a reservation. the restaurant itself is beautiful- high ceiling, lots of natural light, carefully chosen decor and glassware. The food was delicious. There were so many options on the menu and you can tell they put a lot of thought into the food they serve. The severs were also very friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place to others and would love to return to try more items on the menu.
Be the first to ReplyI came here for happy hour and had a great time.
The happy hour is only at the bar on a first-come, first-serve basis and there was a crowd but mostly stood around the bar. The wings were good with an interesting dry rub. The cornbread came with six small ones and those were good. The deviled eggs with bacon jam were really good. Great time for happy hour and I would recommend if you are in the area.

This was my first time at this restaurant! The menu was extremely unique and there was a wide variety to choose from with seafood and steak being the clear specialities. The corn bread was standard, but it didn't wow me. The blue cat fish was very tasty however there was a strong fish smell (I used the lemon to remedy this). Chicken and waffles were delicious, both were crispy and I think the intention was to be more savory because it came with a pickle! Shrimp and grits was very nicely decorated. I was disappointed with the size and number of the shrimp. There was also a large amount of butter in the shrimp and grits. The atmosphere was beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised with the place settings! I loved the plates and cups.
Be the first to ReplyUpdate: this was in my drafts for a long time.
I thought I posted it! To this day, I still remember my dinner here and would go again in a heartbeat next time I'm in DC. Original review: I was in Washington DC and happened by this restaurant their opening weekend. Best food I've had in DC so far! The food is Southern-Asian fusion and all delicious. I had the Smoked Wings, Red Fish, and for dessert the Bourbon Milkshake. Not a weak link. Michelle the manager was amazing and friendly, and Chris the waiter was very good at his job. Thank you guys so much!

We came here from out of town or the first time with high expectations because of so many wonderful reviews and photos. Waited for 20 min for a parking space only to be served cold cornbread appetizers, wilted vegetables on our plates, tough ribs, ย and very minimally seasoned catfish. This is not an authentic experience of southern cooking. The mac and cheese is good. Our server Mike was great and the ย manager was very nice and accommodating. Great service but not great quality food. I left here saying suffering succotash like Daffy Duck never to return again. youtu.be/-BDnWMwkf6g
Be the first to ReplyFood, drinks, service, and atmosphere were all exceptional.
I subtracted one star because there were too little lobster in the Lobster Benedict that you couldn't tell it's a Lobster Benedict. The deviled eggs were delicious. I tried the Pickled flavor and I was a bit skeptical at first since I didn't know how well pickle would go with eggs. The whole place gives off a European garden vibe. It has some sort of Michelin recognition which explains the top-notch service. I would come here again when I'm in DC. Make sure to reserve a table ahead of time especially on weekends!

The scenery in this place is AMAZING! Very vibrant and high class. The food however, is ย a bit lacking. They have little to no plant-based options and their food was a bit unseasoned. The aesthetics made up for the food but they definitely need to improve their menu.
Be the first to ReplyWe came in late on a Thursday and sat at the bar.
We ordered cosmos, hot fried oysters, cornbread cakes, ribs, wings and a burger to split between the 4 of us and it was MORE than enough food. The oysters and cornbread were amazing! The wings were a bit salty for my tastes, the ribs were pretty good and the burger was OK. The cosmos with their soaked cherries were the star of the night. Will have to come back the next time I am in the area.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance, good service.
ย Devils eggs excellent as well as drink. Main entree much to be desired. I said I wanted my catfish fried hard , ย so they burnt it. People in the South understand what that means but not DC apparently. I would try place again for another dish next time , but not my first to go for the best southern food.
