Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant was recommended by a friend and I did see
This restaurant was recommended by a friend and I did see it appear on many omakase lists on tiktok and online. My boyfriend and I decided to go for a lunch reservation because they offer the same menu throughout the day and we had prior arrangements for later on in the day. Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess who showed us to our seats at the counter and introduced us to the menu. We had already decided to go for the $100 17-course omakase since we did want to feel full. We had Chef Hiro, who was extremely friendly and made conversation with us throughout the lunch. He explained each piece to us and told us his favorite cuts of fish. Our favorite courses would have to be chutoro with truffle, striped jack with monkfish liver, toro sturgeon caviar, and A5 wagyu with uni and foie gras. Our hostess came over and gave us a thorough powerpoint presentation with pictures of their specials along with details of what is in each piece. It would be great if they had this printed out with detail of the ingredients because it was very overwhelming to remember what each piece has (there are over 10 specials). All of them looked great, but we decided to each get a big mac which had two layers of uni with two layers of A5 wagyu ($25 each). The restaurant looked clean and welcoming, I like the use of Clase Azul bottles as decor, since it is my favorite tequila. I would definitely visit the restaurant again, maybe during dinner time. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, the manager and hostess came over to check up on us multiple times. Overall, it was a memorable omakase experience that I would recommend.

The service was incredible. They are so kind and welcome! This is my new favorite restaurant ever! 10/10
Be the first to ReplySushi by M leans towards the experimental side for Omakase.
While the Omakase menu (we got the $100 set for 2 apps, 15 pieces, and 1 hand roll) features traditional pieces (just the nigiri with wasabi), there were also some very flavor packed items with a mix of stand out ingredients, like toro with caviar or wagyu beef with uni. What I like most about this place is just the right amount of wasabi they put on each piece. It adds a flavor component distinguishable from the key ingredients and hits your nose right. As for the sushi quality, I thought the omakase selection was good overall but not mind blowing. Small and explosive flavors rather than clean and refreshing attributed to traditional omakase. I came here to celebrate my birthday and they gave a free sashimi platter that was just as delicious as the menu and a very great gesture. This is overall good quality for a lot of items given the price point. My only complaint is that the sushi bar seating was very bundled together, not much personal space and arm room. Solid omakase otherwise with friendly service and generosity.

Ok! Let's go with 17 different kinds plus a surprise birthday treat (more sashimi topped with a little candle) and cheeseburger sushi. Total cost was about $100 each plus al carte (cheeseburger, drinks, etc) Kumamoto Oyster + Ikura - very flavorful as ikura burst to bring extra flavor out after oyster taste. Hamachi (YELLOWTAIL) - great warm up to many tasting coming up! Good taste as hamachi tasted very fresh! Kanpachi - a tease of fish type with a hint of spiciness but it wasn't so spicy. It did elevate the taste of fish itself! Akamizuke (tuna) - it bought me back to Hawaii where ahi tastes amazing and fresh. I was impressed as it is doable in NYC! bai (red snapper) - white meat fish and it was impressive than I expected. Hard to say what sauce the sushi chef used but it blends so well with this! Chu Toro w/ Truffle - very rich and flavorful in a bite! This chu toro just melts in your mouth like butter! Truffle is a great addition! Botan Ebi (spotted prawn) - typical but tastes great with their touch of soy sauce on it. Shiro Ebi w/ Sturgeon Caviar - can't say more than this... great use of shrimp topped with caviar to elevate the palate! Japanese Seasonal Fish - forgot what was it but it was great as the chef delivered it on the plate. It depends on season for what type of fish. Hotate (Scallop) - beautifully presented and cut for more flavor to be steeped in and topped with a little of some kind of black salt. Shima Aji - seared and smoky monkfish liver topped on either yellow fish or hamachi sashimi which was amazing!!! King Salmon (New Zealand salmon) - good ol' salmon, tasted fresh topped with a refreshing taste of some light sauce (lemony?). Hokkaido Uni - it just melts in your mouth like butter, which was very good! It means uni was very fresh! It wasn't chewy or fishy. Toro Caviar - amazing like butter melting in your mouth then topped with caviar swirling in as you taste all. Surely a firework in mouth! Of course toro was seared a bit which makes it very delicious! Albacore Tuna - seared tuna topped with a little of spicy sauce. Delicious as well! Wagyu Beef with Uni & Foie Gras - interesting combination but yet good tasting after many great tastes! Bbq Eel Avocado - smokiness and tasteful! Cheeseburger - great combination of sashimi variety (variety of fish, caviar, uni) and a piece of Japanese cheesecake! I kid you not, it may come off weird but it was amazing as you taste all in one bite! Ambiance was so nice. The staff all were very hospitality and accommodating to our foodie adventure. I'd come back to stretch my buck for more sushi courses!
Be the first to Replythis place is such a disappointment.
I came here on a whim for a dinner meeting. I ordered the 2nd omakase option on the menu... the fish was flavorless, dried out and the rice was definitely old. The pieces also smaller than they should've been. The service was good, the people were nice but bad food. Unfortunately I will not be giving this place a second chance, theres no coming back from how bad it was. Can't forget to mention it turned into party at the end of our dinner. Full bar vibes. I don't know how they got it so wrong. I'd rather wait inline for sugarfish.

some pieces like the scallop and hamachi were really good, but some had fusion twists or sauces where I didn't think they belonged, which kind of made me suspect the quality. But I think it might have just been a non traditional choice. for instance, there was a yuzu sauce on the salmon, but I think salmon should be by itself because the fat goes so well with just shoyu. a yuzu sauce would be more fitting on a white fish. but I am a sushi traditionalist. sushi pieces were of the perfect size though !

I had the omakase (17 pieces) and the more I have it the more I realize I'm a huge tuna person and love toro! The toro, caviar on the sushi, and the wagyu with uni were my favorites (pictures below). Made a reservation beforehand for dinner and the chefs were extremely friendly and made the experience fun!

I had such a great time here! Our chef was really talkative, and it was so lively. I don't like eating omakases where it's completely silent, so I really enjoyed the ambiance. As for the food itself, I LOVED it!! It was such a good deal for the freshness and quality of the food. Our chef really paid attention to what we liked and didn't liked, and gave a little extra to me since he said he enjoyed our reactions to the food. The madai was my favorite piece but the scallops were really sweet to me, too. The flavors were enhanced, not hidden by sauces. The uni was fresh and I loved it! My friends all said they wish they had gotten the higher # course set, so keep that in mind! The smaller set was good but definitely for a smaller appetite

Came here without reservation and luckily got seated right away. This was my first omakase experience. The ambiance was casual, not too formal. I ordered the $100 package. Staff was super friendly and chefs were skilled. But I felt like it was missing something to deserve 5 stars. Perhaps my hype for omakase was too big

First time omakase on my birthday with my girlfriend and I had such an amazing experience with Wing! If there's anybody you should have as your chef, Wing is someone I'd highly recommend! We came in about 45 mins early and they were very accommodating, they sat us down immediately but could only order drinks until the actual reservation time which is understandable. All the servers and very attentive and sweet. The ambiance is calming and at home and the price point for the food is pretty great $100 for 17 pieces or $69 for 12!

Common theme with all NYC omakases places that I have tried. Finally got to try the Mantis shrimp, woo hoo, it was good. NYC has so many difference sushi places, I think this one is worth the visit. At least once.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered the $120 omakase, the food is ok, fish is fresh.
But the service is trash tbh, how the chefs served us were ok, but it was like in a rush , they managed to make us finish 14 courses in 1 hour, and the server asked us to pay right after the last bite. She was like: "sorry I think you need to leave because the next group of reservation is coming. "We were shocked because as a big group we just spent $1000 + dollars and then got brutally kicked out.

During a recent trip to New York, I was able to book a table at Sushi by M. It was a wonderful experience for my whole family. The omakase menu was amazing value for money. And the staff accommodated my younger kids by making them more simple rolls. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic omakase at a reasonable price point! I've been to
Fantastic omakase at a reasonable price point! I've been to Sushi By M twice and was pleased with both visits. I highly recommend doing the 17-course experience, which offers the best value and some more premium cuts of fish! Each nigiri I tried was extremely fresh and beautifully crafted by the chef. My favorites were the red snapper and scallop with caviar. We came here for one of my friend's birthday and she even received a dish on the house at the end of our meal. I've been to several other omakase spots around NYC and have to say that Sushi By M provides the best quality/price ratio. This is also a great first-time omakase spot if you're new to this type of dining experience!

I came here last minute trying to do omakase for 5 and while they could not seat us, the host tried their damn hardest to try and make it work! They mentioned there was a reservation for the next day for a table omakase experience so we decided to do that instead. The fish here is fresh and you can definitely tell they put a lot of attention and effort to their omakase menu. While we didn't get the traditional seat-at-the-bar experience, the staff tried their best to accommodate and make it still enjoyable. It was also my birthday and they brought out a medley of fish with a candle in wasabi that I thought was funny lol. Overall, a decent spot for omakase, though I did think it was pricier than others in the city. The 5 stars is for impeccable service.
Be the first to ReplyIf you're desiring to experience a different omakase
If you're desiring to experience a different omakase experience, then Sushi by M might just be the place for you. Unlike other sushi spots where you sit at the counter, here you get to enjoy your meal at a table. While it may not be as exciting as sitting at the counter, the food is still worth a try.Their omakase comes in two options - the shorter version with 12 pieces or the extended one with 18. We tried both, and were quite pleased. The Hokkaido uni was sweet and mouth-watering, while the o-toro was top-quality. Each piece was well-balanced and not overly glazed in soy sauce. From the scallops to the shrimp and albacore, everything was fresh-tasting.However, I have to admit that the overall experience was not as exciting as other omakase places. The ambiance lacked a bit of character, and the service was not particularly engaging. But if you're looking for good quality sushi at an affordable price, then Sushi by M is worth considering.

I first went on a Friday night without a reservation and they were booked. However, they did try their best to accommodate us and make it work but it wasn't possible. Luckily they had an opening the next day so we made a reservation. Our waiter (i forgot his name) was extremely nice and attentive, as well as very educated in his work. He describe each of the sushi pieces as well as the order to eat it in. If you need more ginger, you just ask as well. We had a table and didn't sit at the counter, but it was still great. We celebrated a birthday and they surprised our friend with a little birthday sushi piece. I definitely would come here again as my friends and I had a great time here!

The best sushi experience i ever had!!! We were sat and immediately greeted by our waitress. She was the absolute BEST!!!! We were in town from Los Angeles celebrating my besties birthday and she made the entire experience so wonderful!!!! Gave us complimentary shots and came by so often to check up on us and had a few shots with us too!!! THE FISH WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!! So fresh and tasty! It was so amazing. And they turned off all the lights to sing happy birthday with my friend and the chef cheered us as well! If you go here ask for EMILY!!!!! That's our girl. I will never not come here when in New York!!!

This was my first omakase experience and it was absolutely amazing!!! The staff are so incredibly friendly and make sure that their guests are having a great time. They do a great job interacting with guests and making sure if everything is delicious! I was there for my birthday and they had a cute fun surprise at the end!!!My favorite pieces was definitely the shrimp with the lemon, red snapper, and golden eyes snapper. All the pieces were well flavored and each bite was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend checking this place out and I may possibly come back if I am in the area.

I've been here multiple times to try both the omakases they had to offer! So happy they're in a bigger location now and when I went it was $98 for 18 pieces! So worth!! The pieces are a bit on the smaller end so I would recommend to go for the 18 pieces one since it'll fill you up just a tad more. When I went to their old location I did the other omakase they had to offer which was the 12 pieces one which is still worth too but you're going to be hungry afterwards. Also recommend adding on some special pieces they offer like the big mac or the three amigos! The chefs are awesome here and engage with you and they also used to do their special water :) overall the pieces are great here with their flavors and I would def come back!
Be the first to ReplyI love a BYOB omakase spot.
Great service and recommendations. Sitting at a table was more than fine since we were a party of four, but the bar seats are my go to for the full experience. The fish and oyster were fresh and delicious. Great pairings with varieties of caviar and the perfect balance of fish and rice per bite!

Really great omakase experience in NYC! My only regret is doing the 12 and not 18 piece. We sat at the sushi bar and it was so much fun to watch all the different pieces being made. There was a couple next to us who did the 18 piece and I was a little jealous. Overall the fish was fresh and the flavors were delicious. Definitely recommend this for a fun date night or a night out with friends!

If I could rate this place 10 stars I would, no exaggeration! We had Sushi by M on our list to try out while we were visiting New York. Unfortunately we did not make reservations ahead of time, but were able to text them directly and get seated about an hour in advance!Once we got to Sushi by M we enjoyed the overall ambiance of it! It is a pretty large spot with a bunch of seats at the sushi bar. Additionally, they were playing upbeat music throughout our dinner. We got the $60 omakase and wish we did the larger $98 one because everything was SO good. Our sushi chef Allen did a fantastic job on each of the items. Our favorites had to be the Big Mac, O-Toro Caviar, and Sake. We also got a chance to meet Chef M himself! He was incredibly outgoing and hung out with us throughout our meal. The rest of the staff were just as outgoing as well.Overall, it was an amazing experience that we will be recommending to everyone visiting or living in New York!
