yes they have AYCE Japanese sushi.
yes from the outside it doesn't look like much. But for Albuquerque it is the best sushi I have found and for only $26.99 per person. Our family usually finishes off 20-25 rolls per visit and they never complain. They offer several variations on New Mexico food like the Albuquerque roll. My 8 year old daughter even loves this place and eats the heck out of the salmon.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a hidden gem.
if you like sushi, it's hard to beat the all you can eat and everything is fresh and wonderful. It's a little bit off the beaten path, but worth the drive.
Be the first to ReplyThe fish tasted like nothing.
Was not very rememberable and I haven't been back since.
Be the first to Replythe food is decent.
lots of rice though. even the sashimi they add rice not like the pictures, i consider that false advertising. also forget about the yelp free beer, they gave it to me but after a lot of hesitation and refusing. confused, but it looks like they did give me the eel and row without rice when i asked for it to be served without rice. not sure if that was just to make me happy or what
Be the first to ReplyService was good, food was fair.
All you can eat special is a lot of food. Edible, but not remarkable. A spot for hungry college students.
Be the first to ReplyI hadn't been to this place in years and decided to return.
The only reason I hadn't been back is that I moved out of Albuquerque. My absence from this restaurant has nothing to do with the restaurant. It was as good as I remember. The building is in an old strip mall and is a little dated. However, this is a non-issue if you want all you can eat sushi at a low price. This place does deliver on value. The sushi is really good and high-quality. There is a decent selection on the all you can eat deal. There are beer and desert options for an additional charge. The service was quick. I try to stay out of Albuquerque, but if I'm in the area, this place is definitely a restaurant I wouldn't mind returning to.
Be the first to ReplyLove the all you can eat sushi.
Friendly service, venue was very clean and the bathrooms were too.

Got all you can eat sushi, and the kids deal was very cheap, only 13 dollars! The sushi tasted good and was brought to the table quickly. The shrimp tempura was very tasty and crispy. The only reason I have for taking a star off is the overstocked aquarium. Fix yo aquarium, sushi gen. I recommend giving away all of the goldfish to people with ponds except for two or three, adding more water, and adding some rocks and silk/live plants. Overall very good though.

We tried Sushi Gen for the first time on a Wednesday for dinner. The counter is closed for dining, but there are still tables and booths available for seating. The restaurant is dark, so it took a minute to get used to the very dim lighting. No music was playing; instead there was a TV playing a cooking show that eventually timed out. Sushi Gen can do ร la carte sushi, or all-you-can-eat. I asked if there was a menu that had pictures or descriptions since sushi can vary so much between restaurants even if the rolls share a name. Sushi Gen only has a picture/description menu for the speciality rolls. On the regular rolls, you just have to know what is included in the roll, or ask the server for each one. For example, an Orange Roll had no citrus ingredients whatsoever. We ordered a Fried California Roll, two Alaskan rolls, a Tiger Roll, an order of unagi, and two soft drinks for a total of $47.39 before tip. Despite there only being one 2-top in the restaurant before we arrived, the sushi took quite a bit to get delivered. Since the mini-oven (or microwave) was in the back, the sushi chefs had to walk through the dining room to bring rolls back and forth. It came all at once inside a sushi boat. Since each warm roll needed to be taken from the back of the restaurant back up to the sushi chefs and then arranged with the rest of the rolls, everything "warm" arrived lukewarm or room temperature. We only enjoyed one roll, which was the Fried California Roll. The Alaskan rolls seemed cheap, and I was disappointed they didn't have cream cheese. If the menu had descriptions of what was in the rolls, I wouldn't have ordered them. The Tiger Roll was fine, but my husband didn't like it at all. Finally, the rice for the unagi was hard, as of the rice had been shaped and then sat out for a while. We both agreed the service was subpar, the wait time long despite very few patrons, a dark environment, cheap ingredients, and just not enjoyable overall. After a 20% gratuity, the total was $56.86 which was completely non-commensurate with the experience. Would we go back? No. Would we recommend it? No. Should you skip it? Yes!

Sushi was good but the food took for ever it's supposed to be all you can eat we were with a large group and they were annoyed when people in our party ordered more. Found our waitress to be kind of snarky boarder line rude was less than thrilled with the place.
Be the first to ReplyFood was meh.
Table was sticky. Had to go back the next day to pay since their Wi-Fi was down. No discount for the trouble. Server couldn't handle the situation. Manager took picture of car and license plate to turn into the police if I didn't pay my bill.Worst dining experience of my life.

The all you can eat menu was lacking and the sushi was pretty bland. Our server was great though.
Be the first to ReplyI do not recommend this restaurant.
My family went to eat all you can eat sushi and waited for over 2 hours and never received any food! The excuse was was that their sushi makers were slow while a party of 15 that came in after received 4 boats of sushi and others were served all around us. This is suspect and unwarranted. Very disappointing for an Albuquerque restaurant. If you can't fulfill an offering, don't serve it or advertise it. Never going back.

We waited over 2 hours for the all you can eat sushi and a huge party of people came in 45 minutes after us and got 4 full boats of sushi before we got even 1 boat this is terrible! They even made us pay for the 1 boat even if we waited for 2 hours + and other customers got their food before us. We were basically the last option even though we were the 1st ones there

I've been coming to Sushi Gen since 2015 but today was my last time. I haven't heard they were sold but the staff was not the same and the food wasn't even close to how it used to be. The miso soup tasted store bought. The rolls were falling apart and were fairly tasteless. My daughter and I typically love the eel but we were less than wowed today. The price per AYCE lunch has also gone up (understandable in these times) but with tip and no drinks my $66 for lunch for 2 could have been better spent elsewhere. And the place needs a good deep cleaning too.

We decided to try a new sushi place we didn't know they did all you can eat so when we saw that decided to try that so we can try several rolls. The waiter had no personality and wasn't very friendly but the sushi was good and didn't take long.
Be the first to ReplySo who doesn't like sushi? Well we do and AYCE is good find.
Spoiler alert: this does not reach the same level as some of the other more upscale restaurants. Sushi Gen fills a niche - a lot of delicious sushi without having to max out a credit card. Our selection was varied - Soft Shell Crab Roll, Spicy Tuna tempura (the whole roll is lightly tempura fried), California roll and 3other house special rolls -yes 6 rolls. Each roll we ate was made to order. So maybe not your A-list place but we didn't regret the stop. Plus remember I said 6 rolls? $55 for 2 including drinks. Of course it would have been the same price for 8 or 10 rolls, and adding sashimi. So stop by and satisfy your sushi craving.

Good food but really was a really long wait 30 min for each plate . Can't keep up with demand for being all you can eat.

Absolutely awesome place to go if you have a craving for sushi. My friend and I always get the all you can eat option whenever we decide to come over, and the all you can eat option definitely holds true. If you have a big stomach, you will get the bang for your buck with that option, and all of the rolls they serve are the bomb, and constantly make you feel like eating more. This is a place I HIGHLY recommend giving this place a try if you happen to be in the area and have a hankering for some sushi.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give this zero stars I would.
Worst sushi ever! Tons of rice with fake crab and no real fish in it. Don't make rolls as described (no avocado or cucumber as stated) just tons of fake crab and thick rice in every roll. Not worth the 23.99 they advertise. Our waitress had some sympathy but the white woman manager could care less and just shrugged. Avoid this place at all costs.

My partner and I were watching movies one day and were dying for some great sushi...but not just a single roll, a bundle of them! So, we checked Yelp and discovered Sushi Gen! At first glance, it looks a bit sketchy...however, it has honestly been a new favorite in our Albuquerque book of restaurants. We go about once every few weeks (when budget permits) and splurge. We highly recommend this place as the portions are huge, quality is amazing and service is excellent. There's typically a waitress who has been so sweet to us that works her butt off and then another waitress who helps with tickets/random services and then a gentleman that handles the sushi, while another one helps with fried rolls. My personal favorite has been ones not in the picture, specials E and F which are only available Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays through the All-You-Can-Eat. I won't spoil the surprise so I guess you just have to find out! Thanks sushi gen!
Be the first to ReplyDo not waste your time or money.
This place makes you wait forever and doesn't get the orders right. On top of that all of their sushi is 90% rice. Not worth it

Super underwhelmed and disappointed! I just spent $70 on sushi for a special occasion for my husband and me- when we got our order we literally thought they forgot 1/2 the food! It was a huge let down to learn that all of the rolls are just super small and bare. We got no wasabi or ginger, none of the sushi rolls came with everything in the description, & they were pretty much all the same thing...imitation crab inside of a rice roll.
Be the first to ReplyReturned to Sushi Gen for the All you can eat menu.
I was surprised that you get to pick from a sheet what you'd like to eat in abundance! ย I was worried that they'd give me sushi that I normally didn't eat. The Salmon and Tuna Nigiri was good but didn't melt in my mouth like I've had from other local Japanese restaurants or stops - but it was good. The California, crab ย and salmon rolls were good. The spicy tuna roll was very spicy! ย Yumm! The rolls were good but the avocado in selected ones was much more mushy than I like. - I like firm veggies , Including avocado, but it wasn't discolored / old so I endured the texture. Their staff was ย very responsive and attentive to making sure you had enough or questioned if you wanted to add to your order. I really appreciated not having to flag them down When I was getting low on rolls or nigiri. Service was attentive and the location was very clean. I enjoyed the sushi at Sushi Gen and recommend it for anyone that wants to try a variety of sushi but doesn't want to pay an arm and a leg. I will be going back.
