Sushi Ginza Onadera West Hollywood
Best authentic sushi in California. I went to the original location in Tokyo and had to go to the West Hollywood location when I moved to LA. Itโs just as good as the one in Japan. During Covid they were only offering boxes to go, so we tried the deluxe option and the boxes were $1200 each. It was definitely memorable but I would not do that again. We also tried the premium omakase once and that was $2500 a head but I thought it was too many pieces and it took too long. It was over 3 hours and I was way too full. They had the world record million dollar tuna and everything else was very special. I was most impressed with the box of shrimp packed with sawdust that kicks alive once opened. I would only recommend to try once if you can

Amazing Omakase with Japan-sourced ingredients prepared by meticulous, experienced chef. Hands down, the best omakase experience outside of Japan. In my view, better than NYCโs Masa. Highly recommended. While everything was pretty special, Iโll remember Japanese Hairy Crab, the most.

This small restaurant has 16 seats at the sushi bar. Two chefs prepare your multi course tasting menu. You can watch the fish freshly sliced and diced, then if appropriate wrapped around rice. Watching the chef is part of the event, but the sushi itself is the star. The taste and variety are mind-boggling. They also have an outstanding selection of sake, even by small carafe. The experience to all senses was outstanding. Best sushi I have ever had, including Japan and Washingtom DC area.

There is something theatrical about Onodera LA, not in drama but rather in staging a performance where the sushi chefs and personnel deliver to the diners a time-based palate and sensory experience. Flavors are intertwined delicately. I was brought by friends as a surprise and left with a sense of amazement.
Be the first to ReplyOmakase sushi at its best in LA
This is the sister restaurant of the Sushi Ginza Onodera in NYC and it is just as good, and a little less snobby. It's pretty new right now so I don't think word has gotten around yet but it is excellent. Expect a few small appetizers, 5 courses of so of sashimi, and then about 12-15 pieces of sushi. If you're doing low carb like me, you can ask them to use less rice on the sushi. The rice is perfect temperature with just the right amount of vinegar. Dinner only and it's going to set you back about $300 per person, but you don't need to add gratuity. They have an extensive sake list and I highly suggest you get a bottle to go with your meal. All in all for 2 people splurging it's going to be about $1000 but it's very good. Please know that it's omakase meaning 'from the chef's heart' and you will have to eat what they put in front of you. If you have extensive dietary restrictions, this probably isn't the place for you. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show and the dinner. Don't be late because they serve everyone at the same time and you don't want to be THAT guy... =) Bon appetite!

Wow. Sushi Ginza has some of the best sushi you will ever have. The place is small and decorated very nicely. There are about 16 seats at the sushi bar.
The service is just great. You will find uncommon items along with everything you expect from a great sushi house. I just love this place and so will you.
Best Sushi in California
Rivaling the freshness and perfection of Sushi Dai in Tokyo's Tsukiji Fish Market and Masa's former Ginza Sushiko in LA (pre-Urasawa), this new location for this small high-end chain is simply the best Sushi I've eaten in California since Masa moved to New York.
It's small (about 16 counter seats), elegant, and simple in design. Omakase and expensive (about $300+ per person all in). Been open less than 2 months when I went last week with a group of food and wine friends (we brought, opened and shared bottles of KRUG, Dom and white Burgs),and we were hosted and accompanied by our good friend Chef KAZ Oyama of Totoraku, who is friends with the chef here and had promised us a revelation. It came to pass:
The service from chef to servers was charming and gracious, the plating magnificent and artistic ala Musee d'Orsay paintings, and the fish simply as fresh and amazingly tasty as any served in California in my experience. Our dishes included Nigiri Sushi, some composed plates, and sashimi.
My favs were simple melt in my mouth Toro, Mackerel, Snapper and delicious Monkfish liver and a cup of Uni Custard topped with Caviar and fresh Uni. Even the seaweed wrapping on some servings was a special top class of seaweed unseen in USA--crunchy and very flavorful.
All in, this was easily the best new restaurant experience I've had in LA in many years, and I'll be back. Yumm!
