Sushi Ishikawa New York Reviews from The Last Year

Do you like truffle on your sushi? If you're a purist or looking for a traditional edomae omakase Ishikawa might not be for you. If you want to have a sushi experience unlike any other in the city than Ishikawa is a must. Ishikawa specializes in topping fish with extravagant toppings like white truffle, black truffle, gold flakes, quail egg, etc. There are other spots that do the fish toppings as well, but what separates Ishikawa from them is the quality of the fish. We went for New Year's Eve and the menu was a special menu so some of the items we had were specific to that night. Our favorites; -Cuddlefish With Uni -Dungeness Crab With Otoro & Caviar -Medium Fatty Tuna With White Truffle -Uni Milk Bread Ikura -Snowcrab Uni Abalone -Tuna Quail Egg Truffle (this was an additional item and if they are offering it GET IT, incredible piece) Service was excellent and informative. The restaurant offers sushi bar seating and has some tables as well. If you can, book the sushi bar for the best experience.

Wow!!! What an awesome way to celebrate friends from coast to coast coming together for a birthday but also to enjoy some yummy omakase. We all walked out stuffed to our hearts content - SO MUCH SEAFOOD!!! The service was fantastic and felt very cozy. Very well priced for such an innovative experience.
One of my new favorite omakases in the city! Definitely not
One of my new favorite omakases in the city! Definitely not cheap as it is $175 minus drinks and tip but they did not skimp on ingredients. My friend that I came with was trying omakase for the first time and she was blown away and had a fantastic first experience. Everything melted in our mouths and they made us feel very comfortable. There were some unique pieces on the menu that were beautifully crafted.

During my last visit, there were several issues that significantly impacted my dining experience. The fish didn't taste fresh (fishy and discoloration), and the caviar was too oily (the lower grade of caviar); plus the cleanliness of the restaurant was not up to par, the restroom smelled like public restroom in Central Park. It was disappointing. I have eaten here three times and it's sad to see my friends were not impressed.
Absolutely amazing omakase experience designed by Chef Pham
Absolutely amazing omakase experience designed by Chef Pham with 17 pieces of "heavy hitters." They use the best ingredients, perfectly paired and beautifully crafted. Each piece is a work of art. This is not your traditional edomae omakase but rather offers a fusion twist with additions such as caviar, truffle, and even gold flakes. Every piece feels like a delectable blend of 2-3 pieces (example include the wagyu, foie gras, and truffle piece and an o-toro, akami, and caviar). We came for my birthday and they treated us to 2 glasses of rose each, which was unexpected and very gracious. Highly recommend and the service, quality and value is exceptional at $175 compared to what you would get at any other omakase venue for $150+. We will definitely be back soon.

What do I even say - WOW! Had such a lovely evening at Sushi Ishikawa. The fish was unbelievably fresh and presentation was amazing. Our waitress was so lovely and well informed, she made the experience even better. Food was melt in your mouth, great atmosphere, and overall lovely evening. Definitely expensive but for the quality of fish is not over the top. I have been to more expensive omakase and this was definitely on par.

This place is non-traditional, however, it plays a unique flair on omakase. If you're looking for omakase with a little more "oomph", come here! Perfect for an adventurous dinner date. My partner took me here for the first time a few years ago for a birthday surprise and everything was exquisite. The service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a great experience.
Sushi Ishikawa is obviously not your traditional edomae
Sushi Ishikawa is obviously not your traditional edomae omakase experience so don't come here if that's what you are looking for. But if what you ARE looking for is a modern, contemporary take on omakase featuring such indulgent ingredients such as foie gras, wagyu, truffle, uni, caviar and gold flakes then this is where you need to be!! Chef Pham's omakase set is far from traditional here but that's the appeal here and makes it a true standout. In a city full of traditional edomae omakase options, Chef Pham's contemporary approach is both imaginative and creative. Each nigiri is not only tantalizing to the tastebuds but aesthetically pleasing as well, each a work of culinary art in its own regard. The ambience here is very inviting and not intimidating at all as some high end omakase places in the city can sometimes be. Moreover, my wife and I were here celebrating our anniversary this particular night. I had mentioned to Chef Pham that we were visiting from San Francisco and he and his staff were incredibly pleasant and made our entire experience one of the most memorable we've ever had. We were also given complimentary glasses of champagne which was a nice added bonus. We spoke in depth a lot about where his fish was sourced and toro kama (collar) came up. Without any hesitation, Chef Pham offered us a single kama nigiri which he presented to us alone and which I appreciated immensely since I know the amount of fish cut from the collar is a very limited amount. It was the first time I ever had the opportunity to indulge in kama before and it was by far one of my favorite pieces of the evening. Even though it would be obviously difficult for us to dine at Sushi Ishikawa on a regular basis since we live in the west coast, my wife and I both agreed we would definitely return in a heartbeat the next time we are in NYC!! Can't recommend this place enough!! 5 stars!!
Everything that Chef Don and his team create tantalizes all
Everything that Chef Don and his team create tantalizes all the taste buds. Nini makes the dining experience even more fun. We always make sure we get to eat here at least once when we are in NYC.
Service is very good.
Hard working and personable. The many-course-meal entails many s all plates; the servers work hard. The sushi chefs meanwhile are churning out slabs of fish, layering on toppings as fast as they can. It's the parfait of sushi. Oh wait, therefore it's not really Japanese sushi anymore. It's a moussaka of sushi? A lasagna of sushi, layers of fish stacked with layers of roe or truffles or even gold flakes. Most of which should not be eaten in the same bite as raw fish. Nice try. Trying to look impressive but, sadly failing. Ambience is sterile but acceptable.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
