Finally get to try it but unfortunatly nozo wasnt there. So didnt expect the vibe to be as positive and i was right. Tension, precision & super seriousnoz is felt. I cant even smile felt like my head was gonna get chopped off. So be it, let see what noz created without his presence....which is not much. 1st off~Nigiris, squid, mackerel, tuna, vein in toro. Uni. Hokai Scallop. Etc...boring...but executed perfectly. 2ndly. OtsumamiHate the fried needlefishHate the worst looking otsu ever...bambooHate the top neck clam risotto, another horrific looking otsu.Loved the skewered-grilled sea perch, baby tuna but no onsight show. Baby eel & blowfish egg/caviar was prob the most surprising & uniquezz, but didnt taste like much. Blowfish egg kinda blows. Not impressed with the noz caviar either~get rid of it. I dont understand with nigiris already filled with rice, to have more and more rice otsu's (risotto, blowfish, handroll.) Too much rice prob can fill u up & think u got ur $500'z worth. Sommelier was prob the most enjoyable to watch & listen, if u love to put cherries on top of every cake. Complex, richnezz, refreshing~the taste brings out the season, the sun, the air. the earth, and end with asahi dry..just to let u know u fell from heaven back down to earth. Tamago and ice cream was delish. Now i know go to a restaurant when its on fire ! Dont sit like me and wait till all the freshnezz is gone and all thats left is just another day.
🙂
I thought the food was excellent with great service.
Ambiance was okay as the space was a bit tight. As good as the food was, I think it's still hard to justify the price.
🤮
much better other choices. terrible service
Definitely not worth the $500 per person charge (before drinks and extras)! Terrible service. Mediocre food. Cramped dining room. Best wishes Sein M. Chew

This was such an intimate unique and special restaurant
This was such an intimate unique and special restaurant experience. The service felt as if I was sitting tucked away in a small home in Tokyo dining on some delicious seafood. This was incredibly special and I would highly suggest this spot for a special unique dining situation. I've had fish like I've never had before in combinations I didn't even know could exist. The sushi was bar none and I will forever be dreaming of the perfect rice kernels and delectable fish

Chef Nozomu Abe was born in Hokkaido to a family that owned
Chef Nozomu Abe was born in Hokkaido to a family that owned a seafood company and market. This exposed him to ingredients like uni, squid, tuna, salmon roe, and king crab. Chef Noz began his professional cooking career by working as a chef's apprentice at a well known sushi restaurant in Sapporo, near to where he grew up. He then moved to Tokyo, the center of the old Edomae style of fish preparation. There he worked under numerous master sushi chefs, learning how to age and prepare seafoods, until in 2007, Chef Noz moved to New York to bring his Japanese sushi culture to the Americans. After three years at the helm of New York's famous Sushiden restaurant, Chef Noz opened his first high-end sushi bar, Sushi Noz. His was the fairytale rise that every young chef in the world dreams of.Sushi Noz has two rooms, both with sit-down sushi bars, one room offering eight seats, and the other room offering six. The low amount of seats (14 total) keeps the service intimate and personal. Every guest will receive a lot of attention here. The food here is outstanding. The only reason I didn't give Sushi Noz the full five stars that my meal deserved is because the restaurant requires a 48 hour advanced notice to accommodate dietary restrictions (and even then all that they will accommodate is Kosher), but also because the corkage fee is absurdly high, at $120 per bottle. Otherwise, this is a five star place.

Food 10/10With a fine dining experience like this, I have
Food 10/10With a fine dining experience like this, I have decided to minimize the damage it has done to my wallet and focus on the meal itself because it truly was an amazing experience. From seeing Chef Noz on YouTube to experiencing his omakase in person, I had a beautiful time tasting every piece. Each piece definitely has an emphasis on the freshness of the seafood as well as the uniqueness of the selection. The seasoning was quite light, but because it was not the priority, it was exactly as I preferred. The uni was genuinely the sweetest I have ever tasted in my life, and the sardines were quite a surprise. Each nigiri was beautifully sliced, so delicate and intricate. Chutoro and bonito were two that also stood out to me, and despite there being so many different dishes, each was extremely memorable and added a beautiful touch to the entire menu. Atmosphere 10/10A very clean and cozy space on the UES. Very minimalistic yet elegant, the seating area only has eight seats, so it was a very intimate dining experience. Light wood detailing and bamboo. Perfect lighting, not too bright and harsh, the perfect warm tones.I'm a huge fan of Japanese toilets, so that was a huge plus.Service 10/10Excellent service and recommendations, loved interacting with Chef Noz as well. Thanks for having me!

At a hefty price tag, expectations are high.
Chef Noz doesn't disappoint, but you just can't help wondering whether the meal commanded the hefty price tag. 4 hot dishes all original and delicious. 3 sashimi that was melt in your mouth 10 sushi that were masterful prepared 1 handroll - standard 2 desserts - milk from Hokkaido was niceEverything was just wonderful. Experience was great.
😍
Truly a great dining experience.
The Market itself is beautiful and such amazing and interesting choices. Also has a gourmet tea maker. Professional service.

What a super nice food experience!! Every dish was a separate experience for the palate! Loved the service and the whole meal process !!! Has to be tried !!

Amazing experience and you can tell that Chef Noz puts his heart and soul into every little detail of his restaurant. From the major things you usually would look for at a restaurant like food, drinks, service, and ambiance to the smaller details like decor, table settings, menu print-outs, and interaction, Sushi Noz has really nailed it. Of course at a place of this price point, you can already expect the utmost quality of ingredients used for the food. I loved watching videos and reading about Chef Noz and the entire process he goes through the serve a total of only 16 guests per night. At the end of every night, he contacts his vendor over in Japan to order the next day's fish. As for the courses, there is no doubt you are getting the most fresh items even just from the taste alone. I loved that Chef Noz and his sous chef came around each seat to showcase the fish to us at large. This really added to the personalized experience. The nice ended with a cute bag of complimentary green tea leaves from Chef Noz. Loved my time here and definitely an experience to remember!
🤮
Pretentious and Overrated
Service on the overall was gruff. Seating at the sushi bar was cramped , with barely any space between you and fellow diners. The sommelier has a major attitude problem , and is a pompous and rude human being. I've eaten at the finest sushi spots all over the world, and this one was the worst . I have much better spots in NYC for sushi, but prefer to keep them secret
😍
true Japanese experience in NY
Excellent experience - plain and simple (in a good sense), focused around amazing high-quality ingredients, intimate. Absolute top of my list for omakase in NY.
😍
Been to several omakase but nothing stood out like this one.
Everything from service to quality of food was A1. We were also lucky to have a great group of people that dined in which made the experience extra special. We all shared laughs with the chef and several drinks which made it more memorable. Price point definitely isn't cheap but great times. I'd definitely return. Our chef Shigei Sugano aka Michael Jackson is str8 . Request for him and you won't disappoint.

Really had wanted to come here for the longest time (9 years since I first moved to NYC!) but at $500 / person felt that presentation / preparation and the chef's "hospitality" and passion(?) for guests was really missing. Food was delicious and I left very full but unfortunately overall left feeling like we were just another transaction for the spreadsheet. The chef had confused one guest's shrimp allergy for another, "overstuffed" a Kimbap-style piece at end of the meal to the extent it was falling apart but still blasély served it and mixed up which of us was celebrating a belated birthday; none of this really matters of course as at the end of the day you are at a restaurant to eat, but I think a $500 dining experience should leave you feeling overjoyed to have witnessed the artisan's commitment to detail - just as spending the money on Hamilton tickets, or staying at a Ryokan on the foothills of Fuji would. At the price point we thought a lot about our experience at Masa - it was just significantly more warm and impeccable - starting with the chef's attention to detail and hospitality!A few addt'l notes -- 4-5 non-sushi seafood dishes to start: steamed abalone with asparagus (probably my favorite dish...), bonito sashimi, vegetables, fried eel - 11 sushi pieces - chef asks you on using more vs less rice for each piece - New warm rice painted with soy sauce cycles through every few minutes that chef uses to prepare the pieces; I enjoyed the pieces and rice warmth but note the rice does feel very loose- beautiful and unique plates/bowls and room setting

I've been a regular at sushi noz, but not anymore.

I'm pretty sad I'm writing this review but feel it's necessary given how downhill it's gone.First, they raised the price of the ash room by 2x, but the quality or anything hasn't changed at all. If anything I feel more hungry although they claim it has more courses then before. Previously I was happy and felt I was getting the value I was paying for, now I can't help but feel I got scammed. The fish, for whatever reason, was cut razor thin this time. I tasted more of the soy sauce and rice then the flavor of the fish.Service was pretty disappointing as well. I asked for some still water and the lady refused to give it until I finished my sparkling water first. ??? Very puzzling. I also had to ask to order the sake with the sommelier multiple times and only after several courses did a sommelier show up.Just really disappointing experience all around. Probably never coming back here again and I've told my friends who I used to go with here regularly it's way too overpriced, crap service, and basically turning into a masa. So sad because this was my favorite place.

First off, I have tried every Omakase place in NYC and I can confidently say that this is the best, even better than the most expensive Omakase in NYC. The food is absolutely divine and the service impeccable. It may sound trivial but every detail from the server in traditional kimono dress to authentic Japanese furniture and ambiance makes this a truly unique experience. I felt like I was transported to Japan and when I left and left the building I was back in NYC.

I have been trying months to get this reservation and I'm
I have been trying months to get this reservation and I'm glad we were able to sit at the counter and finally meet Chef Noz. From the dining experience to the quality of all the dishes, I have zero complaints. Oh maybe the alcohol/beverage menu can be improved if I'm picky. Highly rec to go and celebrate your special occasion! One of the best omakase I have in NYC :)
😍
Finally got a reservation to Sushi Noz and it did not
Finally got a reservation to Sushi Noz and it did not disappoint. Truthfully speaking, you've been to one high end omakase, you've pretty much been to them all. They're all going to have premium fish from Japan and you're going to get all the fan favorites. I think this is where Sushi Noz separates themselves. They take the same usual suspects and elevate them with a twist. For instance the grilled nodoguro was amazing. This is one of my favorite fishes but you'll almost never get it as a grilled filet. Then you have the tamago which I almost always pass on but he did an almost kimbap style piece that really worked. And don't get me started on the tomato as a dessert. Yes a tomato is a fruit but when has it ever tasted like one? This amela tomato from Japan was without a doubt the best tomato I've ever had. Not every course was a win, didn't love the cold asparagus dish. But you can't win them all. The service was great, no complaints there. I do wished that the restaurant wasn't so quiet. There was no music, but should've at least had some type of white noise. It was so quiet that it felt awkward talking to my wife. We felt like we had to whisper everything. Overall the meal was expensive but I felt like they justified it. I would come back again.

Sushi Noz used to be my favorite omakase restaurant in the
Sushi Noz used to be my favorite omakase restaurant in the city, and I've visited it more than ten times over the years, but today I was so disappointed with the food and service! First of all, I had booked two seats at Hinoki Counter for $495 per person, but I was placed in the next room called the Ash Room, which I felt was a much different experience than the Hinoki room. In the ash room, I could hear noises from the back kitchen all the time and the environment was not as good as in Hinoki. When I asked the waitress why I was assigned to a completely different room than the one I had booked, she was very impatient and said that both rooms were now serving the same food and that since I had booked a 5:30 seating, I should sit in the ash room. I didn't know until I opened my reservation information that I realized they were now listed in the reservation information, but it didn't show that arrangement when I made the reservation. Like I said before, since I've visited many times, I've both dined at Hinoki Counter and the Ash Room, I knew what to expect when I made a researvation at the Hinoki Counter. Besides that, I was not informed in advance that the chef was not the main chef tonight. I was very disappointed because the level of the chef tonight, and he was not comparable to Chef Noz.The chef tonight did not wear a mask and he only talked to the Japanese guests throughout the entire dining experience, ignoring all of our other guests. He didn't make the entire meal a pleasurable experience either, he just casually sliced the fish and got the prepared food from the back kitchen back and forth for two hours, many of the high end Japanese restaurants I've been to always make their food presentation look like a show, tonight I didn't experience that at all and wanted to get it over with ASAP. Although I explained to the waitress before the meal were started that my friend and I would like the chef to help us change one of the AJI dishes to a different fish, the chef still made it for us tonight. And I also saw the chef switched something else for the Japanese guest sitting next to us while we were all having AJI. Apparently, the waitress and chef didn't care about us non-Japanese speaking guests. When it comes to the food, each piece of sushi was bigger and more irregularly shaped than the ones I've had at Sushi Noz before. The rice was too stiff and fell apart when I picked it up, and the fish slices were very poorly cut. Some of the sushi could not be eaten in one bite but required several bites. Even with my two favorite sushi items that Sushi Noz always serves--the white squid and the scallop, I was very disappointed with the chef's cutting tonight. There is also the fact that when sea urchins are offered, all the chefs are usually warned that they can easily fall off and they will carefully place them in your hands. The chef tonight did not wrap the sea urchin sushi with seaweed, and even when he placed it on the counter and the whole sushi had fallen off, he didn't care and didn't say anything. As a returning customer, I don't know how I can describe my disappointment. My impression of Suzhi Noz has always been that of an exquisite, high-end restaurant that distinctly represents the delicacy of Japanese food. I was very upset with everything from the service to the food, and I don't know if it's because they're trying to make more money now that they've opened another restaurant and hired a lot of new chefs, not to mention the fact that it's not always possible to get a reservation for Hinoki Counter a month in advance. Overall, I won't be visiting Suzhi Noz again because they can't guarantee the consistent quality of their food now.
😍
This is my first time experiencing omakse and I will say it
This is my first time experiencing omakse and I will say it was definitely worth it. I've been holding off on this review because I didn't know how I was going to put into words this experience into a review. This was absolutely amazing. Just simply a must if you are able to get a reservation.
What stands out are the unique netas and Japanese ingredients. Some of the netas are common when you dine at omakase places in Japan, but much more difficult to find in NY. Hikarimono pieces, for example, are more on the rare end in NYC. Rarity doesn't mean better, nonetheless. The place offers greater variety but the overall experience is above average but not mindblowing. Understandable since hikarimono pieces are more difficult to execute properly and often distinguish great Japanese omakases from average ones.If you are getting tired of the typical tuna hirame buri etc. netas from most NYC omakases, try this place for what is, ironically, more traditional Japanese but unique NYC omakase experience.
😍
This is by FAR the best omakase you will find in NYC.
Everything about the meal as a whole from start to finish deserves 5 stars. I have had the pleasure of dining at a handful of New York City's finest omakase restaurants and Sushi Noz still remains first on my list.I look forward to coming back over and over again and would recommend 10/10 times
🙂
This review is really for Noz 17.
Yelp doesn't have a unique entry for 17 even though it's been open for several months. First off Noz 17 is very different than Sushi Noz. Tonight there was more emphasis on vegetables and less on blue fin. Some imaginative and delicious sushi dishes. I particularly liked a dish made with sardines and another with cuttlefish. Reccomended
