Sushi W New York Reviews from The Last Year

This was recommended to me as a good value omakase experience and it lived up to my expectations! Fish quality seemed good to me. Interesting combos I hadn't tried before. One of my favorites was the squid for the texture. Good to show up a few minutes earlier or at least on time so it's not rushed.

Made a reservation for a Friday night and had an incredible meal here. Honestly, I don't want to tell people about this... that's how good it is. My boyfriend and I both did the premium omakase, which was $68pp (hospitality included). Right off the bat, you cannot beat that price for omakase downtown. What's even better is how good it was. Highlights were the marinated tuna, medium fatty tuna, squid, arctic char, yellowtail and eel. The quality was really there, and it's definitely one of the best affordable omakase I've tried. Just an amazing meal all around. Can't wait to go back!

So, after my partner rejected my proposal to dedicate a line item of our monthly budget to Omakase. I needed to find some more affordable eats. I was never going to give up sushi so, the hunt was on! Food: 5/5 I am sucker for early arrival combo and they know it. If you get two apps (~$16 total) before your reservation you get a free drink (i.e., sake, wine,etc.). You know I was hooked. Then, you finally sit down to eat and these prices (especially for NYC) are beyond reasonable since NO TIPPING!! For my friend and I we got the Omakase ($68 each), double app combo ($28), more drinks ( $12), and extra sushi ($13) only for ~$206! You know I am coming back. Like some places be like $135 just for Omakase. Service: 4.5/5 I was slightly disappointed since the staff and chef did not really talk to us that much. Like they were explaining stuff to the group, but I was hoping to talk to the chef more. That is not to say they were not attentive, but I was hoping to be little less formal. All in all, I would definitely go back and going to try their UES location next month.

Overall: 4/5 Food: 4/5 - We got the lunch omakase deal and liked almost all of the rolls! There were 10 rolls and almost all of them were pretty good. The taste of the fish was pretty fresh and good. Value : 5/5 - The omakase lunch dean is $38 but I also got the chu -toro which was an extra $8. I think the value is pretty good for what it is. Service : 5/5 - The service was pretty good and fast. The chef was assembling the rolls in front of us and was nice and we got water refills often. Overall, the place was great ! I would recommend.

Food/Drink: craziest omakase deal I've ever seen in the city wow Service: super friendly service! We were late and they still made sure we were caught up and taken care of :) Atmosphere: cute, intimate and pretty quiet Other: no tip culture like in Japan! & don't be late!!!
Excellent service at both locations! First time
Excellent service at both locations! First time experience: We were given a choice to choose from the basic or premium omakase. Our group went with the premium, and we enjoyed our meal. The pace was perfect, and our tea was never empty. The chef was amazing and focused. I can't wait to come back.
Outstanding, 15 pieces of nigiri and 2 handrolls for $68.
If you want high quality fish and the omakase experience without paying the exorbitant prices at upscale sushi places, then Sushi W is the way to go. The whole experience lasts under an hour, but I never felt rushed and enjoyed the pacing of nigiri. At the end we were also offered the option to order items a-la-carte. Staff was really friendly and informed us on what fish we were eating. Fish was really great and fresh. My favorites were the chutoro with sea salt, amberjack, arctic char, and the salmon. Honestly, I enjoyed Sushi W more than other sushi places that charge 2-3x as much. This place is a gem.
pretty good sushi.
not too expensive but edible. Since most affordable sushi is inedible and edible sushi is unaffordable, this is one of acceptable places in town. however, you get what you pay for -- it's not a top sushi place by any means. pretty good, inoffensive, not disgusting.
Sushi Of Gari
Another one of my top 3 sushi spots ever. Gari revolutionized the sushi industry by my books. He was the first to do omakase that I know of and his creative dishes was groundbreaking. A lot of his disciples move elsewhere and copy his recipes. (Like sushi seki) It’s a must try! I only sit at the bar and let them know I prefer more sushi and cooked pieces. The baked oyster, tomato salmon, seared scallops and just about everything else is amazing
Top 3 sushi spot in the city.
Can't beat Omakase at this price, the quality and service is fantastic and it has such a cozy and comfortable vibe while still feeling like you're getting a Michelin level omakase experience.

First time trying omakase! So happy I finally did :) My friend and I booked a reservation for their $38 lunch special at noon. Everything was excellent. I tried so many new things that I had never eaten before and they were all so fresh. My favorites were definitely the Kampachi (amber fish) and the Akami Zuke (Marinated Bluefin Tuna). I did not like the squid but I think that might just be a me thing. I loved how the vibes were no frills. It felt down to earth and authentic. It was a casual yet elevated experience. I would definitely back here!

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
