Very good sushi
The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the Hanatsubaski Building (the address in Tripadvisor is the old address). It took a bit of effort (we asked the locals) to find the restaurant, but it was definitely worthwhile.
The restaurant is an intimate 9 seat restaurant with Chef Hashimoto behind the counter (and a team of very efficient service staff behind). Chef was very outgoing, even in English, which really helped to make the experience so much more enjoyable. The food was excellent. Certainly somewhere I will re-visit the next time I'm in Tokyo.
Phenomenal sushi dining experience
A fantastic dining experience, over two hours we were brought what must have been close to 20 different courses, all delicious and impressively prepared. We were delighted we picked Sushi Ya and were able to get a reservation, it was a unique dining experience and I hope to be able to visit again in the future if I make it back to Tokyo.
Be the first to ReplyA mind-blowing experience
I was in 2015, I see that since then the chef has changed but not quality. For me, it was really a mind-blowing experience, when you understand what the sushi is.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi of my life
Was a bit hesitant to use up a valuable reservatio due to the chef change I read about but so glad I went ahead and kept it. Having traveled to Japan three times and eaten at Sukiyabashi Jiro (Both locations), Sushi Yoshitake, Isanasushi and Sushi Yasuda over the past 3 days, I can confidently say that Sushi Ya is the best sushi Iโve ever eaten. The lean tuna, yellow tail and horse mackerel were easily the best versions Iโve tasted. There were 2-3 other โbest everโ selections as well but they escape me as the moment. Chef Hashimoto was friendly and spoke a bit of English. Stop reading reviews and researching and just BOOK HERE.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and great host
I am a sushi eater and Sushi Ya may be the bea\st I have ever been to. The chef is a great host with a knowledge of what he is serving and a sense of humor to boot. My wife does not eat rice and unlike many of the well regarded Omakase restaurants in Tokyo the chef was happily accommodating. Highly recommended remember this is big $$$$ but a great experience
Be the first to Replynew location and chef but as good as before
I first ate at Sushiya about 3 years ago and was very impressed.
Since then the chef has changed (from Ishiyama-san to Hashimoto-san) and itโs relocated to a new location (also in Ginza) in early July 2019.
The standard, in terms of both food and service, remains as high as ever.
My friend and I had dinner there during our last night in Tokyo. We both agreed itโs one of our best meals in Tokyo this time.
The omakase menu included 10 otsumami, 11 pieces of sushi, a hand roll and tamago. Both otsumami and sushi were very good but I think the former was slightly better. The tamago was creamy and fluffy like a pudding.
Weโd already had 2 sushi meals in Tokyo (Hashiguchi and Sushi Ryusuke) before having dinner at Sushiya. To our delight, weโre served some food which we hadnโt tried in these 2 places (e.g. hairy crab, octopus, cooked sea bream and botan shrimp).
Hashimoto-san was very skilful in making effortlessly all the sushi while chatting with some guests. Heโs also very friendly. When he knew weโre from Hong Kong, he started to explain to us the ingredients in Cantonese.
Thereโre only 8 seats so please make sure you ask your hotel concierge to book as early as possible.
A culinary experience
We went here to celebrate our honeymoon. First, what a friendly group of staff. Very professional. Second, be prepared to eat. We had 22 courses. If you are a picky eater- do not go here. I loved the food, however if you do not have an open mind then this place is not best suited for you. They do accomodate you on allergies etc. Chef Hashimoto is amazing to watch. Book in advanced. Would highly recommend and would love to go back.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure why these places exist
The chef chooses the food, whether you like it or not. A few bites and 2 beers and glasses of wine...$525? Really? We calculated it at $25 a bite. I should have gone somewhere where I can choose what I eat. My bad I guess.
Good luck finding it down an alley as well.
