THE sushi spot in the Design District.
Sushi Yasu Tanaka is located within the MIA Market, tucked away in the corner but is such a gem. When you enter the MIA Market, there are so many things to choose from but, if you're a sushi fanatic, definitely plan to grab a bite here! They offer platters, specials, and even omakase. I love the omakase because it's such a different format from normal omakase. It's more of a causal experience but still so special. The fish tastes so fresh and of high quality, you'll question if you're even in a food hall concept but I would expect nothing less from the Design District. I've done both the omakase and the salmon special and both are so great. Definitely recommend this spot!

Wow. Sushi in this place is absolutely phenomenal. I have to agree with other reviews saying that this place is probably one of the most underrated sushi places in Miami. Totally recommended!

How amazing it is to find a delicious option inside a food hall. This sushi counter spot inside Miami's Mia Market delivers high-quality food in an informal space, with outstanding service. They have a small menu, full of fresh and quality fish, some appetizers, and Omakase (10 pieces and one hand roll). They follow the idea of keeping it simple but delicious, the staff is very nice and always helping and explaining each piece of menu items. One of my favorite bites is the Uni & Ikura hand roll, the way that the fresh Uni melts with popping Ikura makes this hand roll a piece of heaven. If you are a sushi lover this will be your favorite spot in Miami.

Best. Omakase. Ever. Not just in Miami! Experienced chefs, excellent quality, great value. I must say the portion is on the smaller side but that means you can try even more pieces! This is the only place I'd eat in the design district!

The quality of the fish is amazing here! It is in a food court style place. The omakase is great quality and a great deal compared to other places. No frills just very high quality fish!!
Be the first to ReplyThe best sushi that exists in South Florida.
But take note, once you eat this no other sushi in all of Miami will ever taste as good. I almost always get the salmon 5 piece, ototo charcoal and two wagyu miso hand rolls. But as you can imagine, everything is going to be amazing. Also, it's located inside of the food hall in palm court. Very easily accessible.

Today my friend and i got to try this hidden gem located in the Mia Market and it was a 10/10. We were pleasantly greeted by Giovanni at the counter. He provided exceptional service and was very kind and patient with us as it was our first time here. He recommended us to go a la carte. Every single piece was high quality and extremely delicious i kept coming back for more! Giovanni was super attentive to us and made our experience here outstanding. I highly highly recommend!

The sushi is very good and very fresh, it is a bit on the expensive side, but I guess everything in that location is on the expensive side

Besides the fact that it is located in Miami design district to say that this is the best sushi might be a little white lie maybe great counter grocery store sushi but not the best sushi or service it is the only sushi around this walking area I would opt to try the other foods in this food hall next time

Very casual being in a food mall, but extremely good fish quality. The sushi is prepared at top quality level. The young chefs are very friendly.

The best place for sushi in Miami, the quality is beyond and the deliveries are daily. I can't praise these guys enough and how well they execute service. The slices of fish are cut so well and presented in fantastic ways. I will always keep continuing to support this place. Make sure to check them out at Mia Market

One of the freshest tasting sushi you can get in south fl, my go to sushi place, you will leave here feeling satisfy
Be the first to ReplyThe fish was very fresh and tasty.
The chef dressed my 8 pieces of sushi perfectly...I would give 5/5 stars if I wasn't left hungry. Honestly though, the quality and price is fair when compared to omakase's that are over $100 for 10-12 pieces. For traditional fresh omakase this place is up there in quality. $40 for 8 pieces

After reading so many stellar Yelp and Google reviews, we decided we HAD to try Yasu Tanaka. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The fish was generally very good but the rice for the nigiri was consistently loose and fell apart. The spicy scallop hand roll had way too much onion and no spice; it was unbalanced and not very tasty. The uni toro hand roll was OK, but the tuna was chopped up too fine and fell out when picked up. The truffle flavor on the aburi torched pieces was too strong and overwhelmed the fish. Overall there was too much green onion garnish on the pieces that had it, which also overpowered the fish. On the positive side the hamachi hand roll was tasty, but it wasn't good enough to sway the overall disappointment of the meal. Especially considering the $160 price tag for 2 people for sushi and two bottles of sparkling water. If you want solid nigiri you're better off going to Omakai in Wynwood or Kosushi on the beach.
Be the first to ReplyProbably one of the most underrated sushi spots in Miami.
Located inside Design District's, MIA Market, you wouldn't expect to find such high quality, perfectly curated sushi, nigiri and hand roll menu but there it is -- a spot every sushi lover should try. Run by former chef of the den at Azabu, the michelin rated chef Yasu Tanaka knows how to create beautiful creations of hand rolls, nigiri samplers and maki rolls you didn't know your taste buds needed. Recently, I indulged in the tuna sampler which consisted of 3 tuna makis, 2 fatty tuna nigiris that were torched, 2 less fatty ones and 2 even less fatty... wow, wow, wow, I was speechless. I really hope everyone gets a chance to try this spot out because you certainly will not regret it.

This was inside a food court in a shopping center, the restaurant is in the back left side of the food court. We tried the omakase and it was definitely an experience lol. You go to the counter and then place your order and take a seat anywhere in the food court. They end up finding you with the number system. The sushi was pretty good for the price! It definitely was not filling lol, even after the hand roll and extra pieces. I'd recommend eating something else or maybe doubling up (if you are looking to spend$) The guys were very nice and explained each and every piece but you can see that they are afraid that we forgot what each piece was... which we did. But I still appreciate them coming around and to explain it!

The 4 pieces of toro were mind blowing. Highly recommend. Located in Mia Market.

Amazing wow! Best sushi I've ever ate Definitely coming back this place is a gem I'm impressed
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi in Miami.
Better than all of the places that were recently Michelin starred, and would have probably gotten one of their own if they were not located in a food court. But that's better for us, since you can walk in here literally anytime you want and get the best omakase around for an extremely fair price.
Be the first to ReplySYT is one of my top 3 sushi in Miami.
Edo style sushi is hard to find and Im most happy we finally have one here that served delicious, traditional Japanese omakase. Omakase is an absolute must have. Ten pieces with a hand roll of choice. Chopped toro handroll and hamachi are my favorite ones. Salmon Special is another hit! Different cuts and preparation of this exquisite fish. Easy to order and food is taken right to your table. Happy eating!!

What a gem! Husband and I came through looking for a snack and left so happy. Inside the MIA Market in the Design District, this is a great spot to grab some quality sushi (and try some omakase) without having to make a reservation or to deal with a long wait, like at a restaurant. We shared the 8-piece nigiri selection and a hamachi hand roll. The nigiri was fresh and the quality was top-notch. I've always been skeptical about hand rolls but man, their hamachi hand roll was so good. I could have probably had like 8 of those, EASY. Everything was fresh and flavorful and it was quick. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
Be the first to ReplyI popped by the design district's food hall after running
I popped by the design district's food hall after running an errand in the area. Located in the far back left is sushi yasu tanaka. I haven't had good sushi in a while and after hearing some good buzz about this spot, I decided to give it a shot. At first approaching the counter one of the chefs right away greeted me and asked me how they could help. After looking at the menu I selected the five piece course. Wow. The sushi is incredible. Really high quality. No real need to add additional soy sauce. The fish melts in your mouth. The rice is well prepared. I will definitely go back and look forward to trying one of their larger options. Keep up the great work!
Be the first to ReplySo happy I finally got to try this spot, it's been said
So happy I finally got to try this spot, it's been said before but it really is a hidden gem. By the end of the meal I was laughing at the tourists that were circling the market and unassumingly walking past as they were completely missing out. For the omakase - the quality to price ratio is insane. Every bite was melt in your mouth delicious. Each piece had a unique flavor, and it was arranged so that you could have that omakase journey like any other place. While I would have been satisfied after the 10-pc selection, I didn't want the experience to end (and was having a treat myself day) so per their recommendation I got the hamachi appetizer and spicy scallop handroll. Unsurprisingly, absolutely delicious.I'd recommend any sushi fan coming here, or bringing a first timer here that isn't willing to splurge on a more expensive omakase. It's also great for a treat yourself occasion on your own or with a friend - you can buy some sake to drink with your meal from The Bar across from their section. It's certainly a casual ambience being in the market with other vendors, but it's still the design district, so it maintains that upscale element. I went early so I got to chat with the staff a little who were so nice and helpful. I imagine it gets a bit busier as the day goes on, seems like a fun happy hour spot. I would definitely go out of my way to come to the design district strictly for this meal again.
