😍 5/5 - Great omakase experience

This restaurant offers dinner omakase only (~$180/person before tax and tip) and is reservations only. The location in NYC was awarded a Michelin star. If the quality of sushi and overall dining experience we had in the DTLA location is reflective of the overall brand, I am not surprised!
While this was only my second time trying omakase and first time at Sushi Zo, I found the experience to be tremendously enjoyable. I cannot offer much comparison to similarly priced omakase at other restaurants.
Our meal consisted of about 25 courses and each course was beautifully prepared and explained by the chef. We were impressed by the variety of familiar and foreign fish as well as the creativity of each dish.
Some of the dishes we really enjoyed: Santa Barbara uni (the only picture from the night), scallop from Hokkaido, oyster from Seattle, smoked black snapper from Greece, grunt fish, steamed monkfish liver, soup (dash was rich and flavorful), blue crab handroll (the only time soy sauce was provided), chawanmushi (so silky and savory), marinated salmon roe over rice, squid with uni topped with caviar and truffle salt. All the other dishes were also delicious but there were so many, it was hard to remember them all. Most importantly, the sushi rice was perfection (consistency, flavor, and temperature).
The staff was highly attentive and we enjoyed sitting at the counter and interacting with the chef who really opened our eyes to new varieties of fish and flavors. Street parking available at meters (check signs for times enforced), nearby pay lots, and parking garage (near KazuNori).
