Tail Up Goat Washington Reviews from The Last Year
I usually am not super into pricey prix fixe menu
I usually am not super into pricey prix fixe menu restaurants since I often feel like it isn't worth the hype or money - BUT I really love Tail Up Goat. It's always an interesting and unique experience. The flavors are super off the beaten path and creative. They're willing to take risks with weird flavors - it pays off. I love the surprise each time I go since the menu changes regularly. I'm also GF DF, and they are very good at not just accommodating me but making sure I have an equal experience. It means a lot since lots of prix fixe places refuse to make any modifications.

Tail Up Goat is a truly remarkable dining destination that excels in, cuisine, cocktails, and meticulous attention to detail. The overall experience is unparalleled, leaving a lasting impression on every visitor. The enticing prospect of returning to sample the entire menu is a delightful thought for the future. In the meantime, standout dishes like the Crispy Salt Cod and the Grilled + Pickled Carrots deserve a resounding five-star rating. Not to be overlooked are the creative and expertly crafted drinks from the bar, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the culinary journey at Tail Up Goat. This establishment effortlessly captures the essence of exceptional dining, setting the stage for memorable moments and culinary discoveries that will linger in the minds of guests long after their visit.
The food and service was amazing as usual.
The staff are all super kind. The only other comment that I want to add is about the other patrons. A foursome was seated next to us that reeked of cologne and perfume. What a dining experience killer. We come to a fine restaurant like this to smell the food and the wine not the neighbors. If you want to wear perfume save it for the bedroom.
Michelin starred restaurants have a higher expectation.
There was nothing offensive about tail up goat, but I also see nothing that makes it distinctive. In short, it was average for a Michelin starred restaurant. Highlights from the meal: the squab was perfectly cooked and I never thought I'd like prunes, but it was so good! The monkfish was also perfectly prepared, but the mushroom sauce below it was disappointing...seemed sort of congealed. The cheese course was divine. It tasted like butter. Dessert was frangipane tart which was average. Attire/dress code: I wore button down, dark jeans, and nice sneakers and I did not feel out of place. People wore sweaters, button downs, tshirts, and suits so wear whatever you want! But somewhere on the smart casual spectrum would be just fine. Service was fine, nothing to complain about, but also nothing to merit an automatic 22%. Places like this are what's causing the whole tipflation angst. Thirty years ago, 15% was standard. Somehow that became 20% and now we're trying to make 22% expected?? And if there is no choice in either selecting the menu or the tip, why not just make it all part of one charge and say service is included?

This is a super cute place to dine and the staff are very friendly! My wife and I came in very hungry as we did not eat lunch. The snacks and veggie (asparagus) starter were both delicious. We loved every bite and just wished there was more of it! The main dish was squab which was a new dish for us both. We really didn't know what to expect but it was tasty. Dessert was amazing and we both left feeling happy and satisfied!

Could only get a reservation for the bar (which offered both the six course dinner menu or the a la carte menu) After reviewing the two menus decided to trust the chef's six course dinner. The outcome was a delicious meal. Started with three snacks: stuffed date, squab leg confit and herbed yoghurt; scallop crudo, vinegar, shiso, radish and chive; and a ricotta pancake, caviar, chive. Each item was a delicate morsel of flavors and offered a preview of the main dishes. White asparagus taramasalata trout roe and quinoa; squab breast cipollini and red wine prune; roasted monkfish sweet potato black trumpet mushroom; brioche craquelin hummingbird cheese fermented green tomato candied walnuts The frangipane tart with orange marmalade was a superb and delicious dessert. This was certainly an excellent meal developed by a savvy chef and prepared by a friendly and professional staff. The bar and dinning area were lively and comfortable and the attentive staff was the "frosting on the cake"
Sadly, this restaurant was not worth our time nor money.
This is my first review on Yelp to advise people to be cautious of this place. We paid over $400 for course meal for two and glass of wine each. The built-in 22% gratuity was also sadly not worth what we were serviced on. The quality of the ingredients (we were served various root vegetables, purees, and about 2 ounces of pigeon (!!) meat for example) and amount of food was just not up to par with what was expected of a place with Michelin star. We will not be returning again.

Worst dining experience ever!!! NOT worthy of a Michelin
Worst dining experience ever!!! NOT worthy of a Michelin star by any stretch of the imagination. Food was cheap ingredients delivered late and cold. Table was dirty (no tablecloths) and wait staff rude. When a wrong order was delivered, staff argued that it was correct. Seriously, who does that? I'm allergic to shellfish so when food is delivered in a shell shaped dish, shouldn't the waitstaff have a clue the order is wrong? No, they degraded the customer by telling them they are wrong to question them. And, I'm paying to be treated this way? Do not waste your money here. And, it's loud.
Awful.
Worst dining experience in my lifetime. NOT worthy of. Michelin star. I never write reviews but am compelled to warn others about how painfully awful the dining here is: cheap ingredients (yes pigeon!), cold food, sitting for 35 minutes with no food, waitstaff who had not showered, food from previous diners smashed into wood table, etc.
Worst MS restaurant visited.
Not worth the hype at all. Quite frankly, begs to question whether you should trust Michelin star ratings. Although, other MS restaurants have been phenomenal, this one on the other hand is not worth it! Spent $500 for our five year anniversary! We went and that's that. Never again!!!!!
Pick another place
Dear owners - Please refund me my money. This was my first and definitely last time ever coming to this restaurant and I would not recommend it to anyone. Michelin and other awards were given in 2016; 7 years go they received a Michelin star and since the quality has gone down and down and down. at moments the quality and dining experience was borderline disgusting. The quality and choice of ingredients were low and cheap.(read list below) It allows the owners to maximize profits by serving cheap items at very high prices. The entire restaurant is prefix so maximum profits every night serving one item to everyone. Two prefix, one glass of wine, one coffee ($6) totaled $385 including tip. (We welcome the owners to refund us our money) We are experienced fine dining individuals so trying Michelin star restaurants is a routine thing of ours. Staff were professional and kind. I am a restauranteur myself: Here is my input: Food ingredients were mostly low cost items (root vegetables, dates, onions, lettuces, and squashes and different vegetable purées , a small piece of monkfish) and cheese and an almond flower cake at the end. All Cheap inexpensive items. So why cost so much? Because owners are misleading customers. The food is described and then arranged in a way that is so looks pretty and fancy you lose track of what was said. And then you eat it and still don’t know what it is. Some items I had to spit out. Some items were so overpowering with flavor (ginger or vinegar) that I could not eat it. Some items were outright inedible. Again, staff were kind. Sad experience. I feel like the reputation of Michelin has been tarnished by restaurants like this one. I feel sorry for anyone who makes the mistake of going here based on their past awards from 2016. To the owners of this restaurant please remove your 2016 Michelin star from your marketing. Or Drop your price by more than half. You are misleading good paying customers into believing they are getting a fine meal. They are not. Thanks for reading and I am about to go get two slices of pizza because I’m broke and still starving!!
Tried out a few of their courses and would said everything
Tried out a few of their courses and would said everything was pretty good! Some of the dishes had a nice burst of flavour, while some were still good but I suppose I expected more. Overall, I liked this place and wasn't packed when I went. Parking was a little iffy but managed to find a lot to park in. Staff were nice. It was a little dark in the place but still a nice restaurant to vibe in.
We had a lovely meal.
Interestingly different menu. Every course was delicious. Portions were just right. Great service. Very satisfied.

I recently visited Tail Up Goat with a friend for my birthday celebration and I can honestly say that I had an amazing time. This venue is definitely on the casual side, so no need to dress up unless that's your thing. As soon as you step in you're greeted by dim lighting and a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you're at a friend's house for an excellent time. As far as food options they offer menus for vegetarian and vegan lifestyles outside of their regular menu. Although I wanted to try their vegetarian menu, which sounded amazing I opted for their regular menu. The smoked black cod was surprisingly decant and melted like butter on my tongue. The pork croquette was rich but equally balanced with the accompanying red cabbage and apple honey. The coffee rubbed beef tenderloin was just that "tender" and succulent. Dare I say the most tender item I've had all year...YES! The only that that didn't live up to my expectations was the pecorino cake. I loved flavors of the strong cheese forward flavor and the orange turmeric jam, but the cake itself was very very dense and bordering the line of dry. Overall, I would welcome coming back during the next menu change to see what the chefs come up with.
In short, a mixed bag: 1.
The food was fine, though not memorable 2. Staff were pleasant, but one interaction left a bad taste 3. The overall experience was not worth the price We took two visiting family members to Tail Up Goat last week. This was their first Michelin experience and our first time at this restaurant. Tail Up Goat has a fixed dinner menu. We ordered two bottles of wine and the Ossetra caviar. We did not order any cocktails. The price was about $900, including tax and the 22%(!) service fee. I don't have much to say about the food. We enjoyed it. But nothing stood out. Staff were friendly. But one interaction left me wanting. When we decided to get the caviar, I asked if it could be brought out after, not with, the appetizer course. I figured this was standard operating procedure but wanted to confirm. I'm glad I did. The waitress said she would check with her manager. When she returned, she told me that the restaurant could accommodate my request, but that I would still have to vacate my table after our allotted dining time ran out (two-and-a-half hours, per the restaurant website). This felt cheap: This ain't bottomless brunch, and Ossetra ain't chips and dip. Our dinner companions had never had Ossetra before, and we wanted them to enjoy the luxury of it. That took an extra five minutes; there was never any risk of our table overstaying its welcome. This is a good place to talk a bit about expectations. Perhaps I put too much stock in the Michelin people, and perhaps I'm too traditional. But for nearly $1,000, you shouldn't have to think about time at all, let alone the stopwatch running on you in the back of house. You shouldn't have to pick up your coat from the floor throughout the night because it slipped off the back of your booth and nobody offered you a place to hang it. You shouldn't have to suffer the final indignity of a 2%-too-much service charge. These are small details, yes. But they matter at this level of the game. Tips for the restaurant: 1. We remember the way a restaurant makes us feel. This is the hospitality industry, after all. Michelin-level staff should have discretion to grant simple patron requests without first having to ask a manager. When granting those requests--especially after their being approved by a manager--staff should be magnanimous ("of course we can do that") instead of nagging ("watch the clock, bucko"). 2. Offer a place for our coats. If you see one on the ground, pick it up. 3. Cut the service fee to the standard 20%. The extra few bucks aren't worth the loss in patron goodwill. Tail Up Goat might be fine for date night, but, for the price, go somewhere else to truly celebrate. At the very least, $900 should buy you some white tablecloths; a memorable meal; and the chance, if only for a few hours, to forget about time.

The service was excellent, the vibe was great, pretty intimate. However for a Michelin star, the food fell very short for my expectations. I know this restaurant is on the "cheaper" end of a Michelin star, but both me and my girlfriend were not impressed with the food like we expected. There were a few dishes that stood out (the salty cod balls, which you have to pay extra for, and the scallops, as well as the dessert were memorable), but most of them, including the entrees were very forgettable. The cocktails and wine seemed to be pretty good though! We still had a great time and recommend people at least try it, but don't think it'd be worth the money to come back a second time.
Outstanding wine pairing.
Tail Up Goat is a must-visit destination for those looking to immerse themselves in the world of fine dining. This charming establishment offers an unforgettable Michelin experience, making it the perfect place for those venturing into this prestigious culinary realm for the first time. The service is impeccable, with attentive and professional staff who anticipate every diner's needs. The meticulously curated tasting menu is a showcase of advanced culinary techniques and vibrant flavors that capture the essence of signature cuisine. Each dish is a work of art in both presentation and taste. The wine pairing experience at Tail Up Goat is noteworthy. While they offer a selection of classic wines, I would highly recommend opting for the more daring and adventurous pairing. This choice surprises with unconventional wines that complement and elevate each bite, creating a symphony of flavors on the palate. In summary, Tail Up Goat provides a sublime gastronomic experience, perfect for newcomers to the Michelin world. With its exemplary service, exquisite tasting menu, and bold pairings, this restaurant is undoubtedly a stellar recommendation.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
