Food was very good.
Very flavorful. The ice cream cassata wasn't really the real thing. But everything else was awesome!
Be the first to ReplyHad an excellent meal here last fall.
Chicken tikka masala was excellent as were the appetizers and drinks. A bit pricey but not out of range for the area.
Be the first to ReplyService was rushed and food was mediocre.
Tough pieces of chicken breast in all dishes and under seasoned. Definitely taste different than it use to be.

If you talk about Indian food in NYC, then Tamarind is going to come up. It's one of those go-to spots that you know will do things right. I've been here 3 times and it's consistently good. I DREAM about their Malai Naan. You HAVE to get that no matter what. WHAT TO GET:- Malai Naan: 5/5 Spiced cream cheese mixture goes so well with any of their grilled meat - Punjabi Tikhe kebab or any grilled meat: 5/5 - Cauliflower appetizer: this isn't on the menu but has an Indo-Chinese taste which is great 4/5 - Palak Chaat: 4/5 crispy spinach chaat, interesting twist and good app! - Punjabi Mutton: 4/5 - Paneer lababdar: 4/5 this is my friend's go-to dish here. Personally would prefer the sauce spicier rather than sweet - Harara bhara kabab: 4/5 large spiced spinach Patties with a super spicy sauce. I would share this as an appetizer if you have 3+ people - Amritsari seekh: 4/5 marinated paneer. Good app! - Murg Lajawab: 3/5 personally would prefer this sauce be spicier. It's very similar to the lababdar sauce. - Cocktails: not on the menu but try adding rum to mango lassi! - Mango Cheesecake: pretty good end to dinner! Not the best cheesecake I've had but much better than most Indian restaurants Also have to give a shout-out for their excellent service. There aren't many Indian restaurants that pay attention to service - Tamarind's staff go above and beyond. They even put portions of the mains on each guests plate (though this isn't as great for pictures lol). Ambiance is that of a high end restaurants. Super classy. The owner Mr. Avtar Walia is also very hospitable to guests and is often seen checking on tables. Overall, Tamarind's menu is huge. They have plenty of options for everyone so I'm sure you'll find something you like. Will be back to try even more!

We enjoyed a lovely afternoon lunching at Tamarind Tribeca, NYC. We tried the Executive Lunch for $34.00. We were quite surprised by the amount of food received for each serving offered. The appetizer--Shrimp & Mango--was delicious. Three large shrimps in a golden yellow mango sauce; quite beautifully plated. Next 2 entrees (not 1)---my selection, chicken tandoori and fish--was accompanied with basmati rice, mixed vegetables and naan. These generous portions were topped off with dessert. Excellent tasting food; generous portions; outstanding service staff; and beautiful decor--all for $34...what a buy in NYC!

The ambiance was excellent and the drinks were very noteworthy. The apps and the desserts were also good. The greatness ended there - they required the tasting menu with our party size and the entrees were so tasteless we had to give them away.

3.5 starsRestaurant Week Review - been wanting to try Tamarind so I was excited to see they had a restaurant week menu for $45 lunch every day except Saturday. Thought the food was flavorful but very mild in spice. Service was great and fast and ambience is really nice. Went on a Sunday for lunch and it was fairly empty. Liked the variety of options they had for Restaurant Week and was a big fan of the Gulkund Cheesecake!
Be the first to ReplyHIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Amazing food. Not great wine but the food was so good that they're forgiven. My favorites were the Palak Chaat (crispy spinach appetizer) and the Malai Halibut (designated as a grand prize winner of something). We also got the Naryal Malai Murgh (boneless chicken in a white cream coconut sauce), which was pretty good. I wasn't as much of a fan of the paneer lababdar (usually paneer makahani elsewhere and usually my favorite dish!!!). Also enjoyed having the chutneys very much so recommend getting those as well.We came for a friend's birthday and they were kind enough to give him a free cheesecake dessert with a candle. This spot is not to be missed. Will definitely be back many more times!

Came here on a Saturday night and boy it was busy! Beautiful fancy decor with 2 levels of dining. The service was attentive and patient. As a vegetarian. I was happy that there were plenty of options for us. The appetizers were incredible and my main reason for rating it 4 stars. We got the Gobi which was our favorite dish of the night, spinach kebabs, paalak chaat, and paneer, all of which were insanely incredible. For entrees, we got the kofta, dal makhni, Brussels sprouts subzi; all of which were good, but could've been seasoned more with increased spice. For dessert, we got the crème Brulee which you can skip.

This is my review but also it's restaurant week! We made a last minute reservation for lunch today and we were not disappointed. Wow. I honestly cannot remember when we've had such good service. I really mean it. The service was on point today. The server wasn't pushy at all and we chose the tasting menu. App, 2 entrees and desert. I would say, I wish you could sub desert for an extra app. But what a good deal. 45$. I cannot wait to go back and have the a la carte menu. We got an amuse that was spinach, really yummy. I had the bean soup, the two veggie entrees and the cheesecake. The mushroom entree was my favorite. Wine list and cocktail list are fun and nice prices for some good wines by the glass. It's definitely business casual. I felt a little under dressed in my rain boots. Decor is really pretty, maybe a little dated early 2000s but floral arrangements and decor are lovely. A lot of business lunches it seemed. From the host, to the busboy clearing, to being walked to the bathroom, I have to say, the staff really seemed to care and put a ton of effort into the experience. My water was always full and the food was tasty. We will definitely be back again. Tasting menu: 45$ for app, 2 entrees and dessert. Mushroom and zucchini entrees mild spice and delicious.Bean soup medium spice, surprisingly a fav. All came with naan bread, rice and a small side salad.
Be the first to ReplyWe went to Tamarind on a Saturday night.
It was only 5:30 so it was still really quiet in the restaurant, as expected for an early dinner time. Our servers were very attentive and were constantly filling our waters, checking on us, etc. They were knowledgeable about dietary restrictions and were able to provide information on gluten free options (most of the menu!)The food was delicious! We tried the chili crab appetizer, chicken tikka masala, the tandoori mixed grill, and saag paneer. The Saag paneer and chili crab appetizer in particular were both amazing! We would recommend both of these. Additionally, the tamarind rice and spinach and garlic rice were delicious. None of the curries come with rice so these were great to pair.We forgot to ask about spice levels, and everything was super mild. We wished we would have asked for spice! So note, if you even like a little spice, you may want to bring it up to your server. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the restaurant felt a little stuffy and it did not have a very fun ambience. Great place to take older folks and have peace and quiet, but not a very fun vibe.

We had 4 lunches here a few days before our move and each was outstanding . Cant say enough about the care of the owner who came to our table several times, the waiters who were excellent, the food is superb ( except the zuccini, delete it please :))..the desserts inimitable. the ambiance , the menu, the bathrooms, everything is impeccable we are going to miss you in Florida!
Be the first to ReplyGreat service in a beautiful location.
The restaurant itself is large and stunning. We got the scallops and aloo tikkiyas to start- the scallops were perfectly cooked in a gorgeous sauce, and the aloo was light with a fantastic spice flavor. We got the halibut and chickpea curry as our mains- the halibut was light and perfectly cooked, and the chickpeas were tasty but slightly heavy and not our favourite. We also got garlic naan bread, which was fantastic.

We had so much food and it was hot best Indian food we have had so far. My boyfriend loved the chicken masala and the garlic naans

WOW! Truly the best Indian food I've ever had - I can't believe I haven't been here before. Loved the little complimentary cheese puff appetizer with sauce to start. We got a bunch of things for the table but my ABSOLUTE favorite was the crispy spinach appetizer - it was actually everyone's favorite at the table which was somewhat surprising for being spinach - but the flavor was insane. A MUST get!! The samosas were also delicious - perfectly soft inside with a crispy outside. The prawns were a must as well! The mushroom and truffle oil naan was also unique and yummy.Luckily they also had a fabulous selection of mocktails, it's a specific menu, which I had to ask for a few times but the list was pretty extensive. The lychee blossom was the BEST. Cannot wait to come back - even if it's just for the crispy spinach! Yes, it's that good.
Be the first to Reply5 star service and ambience.
4 star for the food. Food was pretty delicious just not the mind blowing hype that I had expected.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was pathetic and the food gave me food
The service was pathetic and the food gave me food poisoning. I went there last Saturday feb 5 th. Also they gave me a shitty wine bottle for $75. The waiter got us wrong bottle and wine was spoiled. Very disappointing .,, don't go here and waste your money. We were only party of 5 and they charged us 20% gratuity without informing and we were celebrating a bday and they didn't offer anything . Very bad quality for nyc standards.

I went to this marvelous Indian restaurant during NYC Restaurant Week. The NYCRW menu had so many choices including dessert, which was delicious. The service was excellent, esp Sam, and the food was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be returning soon.

We visited this restaurant on a Friday evening, just before the blizzard started picking up. Reservation for 9pm, seated at 9:02. The maitre d checked our vaccine cards and ID, kudos to them. We were seated at a comfortable table. The ambiance is well suited for date night as well as family dinner. Our server took our drink order promptly. The lychee martini is delicious. We ordered the chili crab and tamarind scallops for appetizers, both were delicious. For entrees we had lamb vindaloo and lobster masala, basmati rice and garlic naan. Everything was outstanding. Note: if the descriptor says fiery or hot, trust it. The lamb was spicy, but I loved it. Overall great restaurant, great service, delicious food and cocktails. I will definitely return
Be the first to ReplyI only give 2 reviews for the service and decor/ ambience.
The food was nothing to write home about in my opinion. Kind of let down and won't be returning. I get it, you can t please everyone and I guess I'm that person. Just not for me.

Tamarind has been on my list for a long time, it's one of the few Michelin star Indian restaurants around. The restaurant itself is beautiful and very clean. Our host seated us in the back of the restaurant with all the other Indian people and next to the bathroom! We tried to see if they would give us another seat and they said they were already reserved. Not too long after a private party came in, full of loud children. I was told they had a no children policy, guess not.Our server was nice, gave us some good recommendations, which we went with. For our appetizers we went with the crab and an off the menu shrimp dish. The crab and shrimp were good, well flavored and not spicy. For our entrees, we got the lamb chops, shrimp in a coconut green curry, tamarind chicken, chicken tikka naan, and tamarind rice. The lamb chops were delicious! Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Probably one of the best I've had in a while. The shrimp lacked flavor, and the portion size was small. The tamarind chicken had a weird texture and hard to finish. The tamarind rice was odd.The chicken tikka naan was cool, it was nice to eat on its own. I still had hope, so I decided to order desert. We ended up getting the mango cheesecake which was really good. The cardamom crème brûlée, was okay; they didn't melt the sugar on top properly. Lastly, a coconut cake bomb thing , which lacked coconut flavor and had no chocolate. I'm not a professional foodie, but I expect a certain level of service and an experience when I go to a Michelin star restaurant, because that's what im paying for. Unfortunately, this was not Michelin quality nor worth the visit. Worst experience hands down.
Be the first to ReplyThe popular, African fruit Tamarind holds a rugged
The popular, African fruit Tamarind holds a rugged exterior, with a sweet, tangy delectable contained within. The most succinct way to describe this Tribecan restaurant is that it is, quite frankly, the exact opposite of what the restaurant name implies. Despite Tamarind's grandiose exterior--its personal chandeliers, elongated central bar, and individualized enclosures-- the food that it serves are mediocre at best. The facade that Tamarind maintains begins at its entrance. The white-themed, minimalist design is inviting for any upscaled gathering. As a frequent passerby, I always wondered how great a restaurant this magnificent establishment was. Upon entering, however, we were met with a hurried staff throughout our experience, as they preemptively took away our unfinished plates (although bear in mind, we held zero intention for finishing anyway) and rushed for the check upon our completion. To put it bluntly, we were treated like items on the same conveyor belt the food probably came out of.To describe the food, Tamarind can be seen as the jack of all trades. It is hard to discern what Tamarind succeeded in besides general ambiance, with an overly extensive menu and none of what we tried impressionable. The cauliflower was uncooked, and the three measly, bite-sized samosas were indeed not worth $16. Their flavorless, "off the menu" buttered chicken, which was recommended to us, is off the menu for a reason. We were undoubtedly grasping for straws when looking for an upside for their food, but unfortunately, we came out empty-handed.All in all, Tamarind is a great establishment to sit and mesmerize at what is around you. With its high volume of guests, it seems as though this is enough for many people within Tribeca. However, if you are looking for something more impressionable for the palette, we recommend eating elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice atmosphere.
I thought the good would be exceptional, but it was just regular Indian food. It was a celebration and the dessert, tres leches, was not a tree leches cake and the price just ridiculous. I did not complain because it was a birthday celebration, but I would never go back to this place.

Even though the ambiance was nice, the food was disappointing. We ordered the Murgh Malai Kebab and Seekh Kebab for appetizers both of which were below average in quality of meat and taste.
