Excellent Middle Eastern Food!
Visited Tanoreen today for lunch with 5 long-time girlfriends. We had a 12:00 reservation and were seated immediately. The waiters were excellent -- they answered any questions we had and explained several of the dishes. We ordered a few appetizers to share: brussel sprouts, falafel, hummus x4 and the eggplant napoleon. The waiter also brought out another dish for us to try, a cold appetizer called Mhammara consisting of pureed red pepper, walnuts and pomegranate molasses. All the dishes were delicious! On the table, there was a small plate of pickled veggies and a basked of soft pita, toasted pita, and toasted pita with za'atar seasoning. All were very good and went well with our appetizers. I order the grilled combo, which was chicken shish kebab, lamb shish kebab and ground lamb kabob. It came with rice pilaf and a tomato salad. The plate was overflowing and so good! I boxed up a bunch of it to bring home for lunch tomorrow. We were all very happy with our entrees. For dessert, we ordered the mini baklava. It normally comes with 5 pieces but they brought us an extra piece since there were 6 of us. We also ordered the vegan macaroni cookies which were superb. The house made iced hibiscus was delicious as well. The owner's daughter came around and spoke with us, she said that she noticed we were celebrating something. Very nice woman. I would highly recommend Tanoreen and cannot wait to go back again!!

It was my first visit to Tanoreen and it came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. The service were incredible and the food was out of this world. Middle Eastern is one of my favourite cuisines and this did not disappoint. Everything was more delicious that the dish before. Highly recommend. Some really interesting dishes too, like the Za'atar margarita and the date ice cream

We were in Bay Ridge for the Norwegian Day Parade and the Free Palestine Demonstration. I have been trying to get to Tanoreen for years and something always prevented me. I was psyched having heard nothing but good things. The room was nice and the staff, numerous and polite. We were seated quickly on this late Sunday afternoon, it was moderately crowded. We scanned and used our phones to read the menu. After a consultation with my wife, we ordered a kale salad to split, a vegetarian combo and a Mushbaka (?) for myself. The special I ordered was a lamb rice dish that is baked and flipped upside down and served. Unwarmed pita bread was put on the table with a few pickled vegetables.our lemonade and iced tea arrived. The salad was fine with a nice tahini based dressing. Silverware was replaced and our entrees came out. My barely warm 'ovenbaked' thirty dollar lamb and rice dish was sent back to be heated up. It was good and a enough food for two people but nothing to gush about. It wasn't anything I couldn't have done at home. I ordered another iced tea and it took so long to arrive I thought, they had forgotten it. I was told they had made a new batch. I had finished eating at that point and the five dollar long awaited iced tea, sat there. The wife said her veggie platter was very good. I felt my hundred dollar late lunch wasn't worth it and won't be back.

Be the first to ReplyWaiter rushed us
We had a reservation, came in early and we were seated. Waiter took our order and seemed in a rush. We were eating and the waiter was ready to remove our dishes before we were done. We weren’t lingering at all. He kept watching over us and coming by to pulls plates. Needless to say we were uncomfortable. We ordered dessert and within 5-7 min of receiving our dessert our waiter was gawking at us and walking back and forth to the table. Honestly, I regretted leaving a 20% tip like I always do. Had it not been for that fact that I was meeting a new family member for the first time at this dinner, I would have spoken to the owner or manager about our service.
I haven’t been back, not sure if I’m willing to go back soon either.
Superb! Even during the Shut-Down!
We have been dining at Tanoreen for many years. Since before they moved across 3rd Avenue to her 'new' much more elegant surroundings. But it is not really the decor
but the amazingly consistent world-class middle eastern fare that Rawia, a justifiably famous chef, and her crew create every day. Yes, she has literally written the book! Or maybe two by now. But her offerings stay at such a consistently high level!
We experienced this just this week when we picked up a wide variety of 'take-out'. We have had a mixed experience with other restaurants during the shut-down here in New York. Not Tanoreen! Everything was at their culinary best! The Mezze - unbelievable as always! The Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Mhammara even the 'standard' Hummus and Baba were extraordinary.
We drove from Manhattan to Bay Ridge to pick up our food. And will do it again very soon!
Always home at Tanoreen!
The food is beyond amazing and what you expect from home cooking with the fam! The staff and owners are warm hearted and make your dining experience feel as if you are apart of their extended family! Making Tanoreen a continuous goto for us! Pictures are over several visits in 2019!

First time at this restaurant. Everyone was friendly and the food was delicious. Wanted to try everything on the menu. Had the Fatoush salad and the baked Mediterranean Eggplant. Both were very good with flavorings I had not experienced before. The cheese knafeh for dessert was out of this world. Takes 15 minutes to prepare. In the scheme of things, not a long time and its well worth the wait.

We dine here often and it never fails to live up to its reputation. The staff is attentive and the food is like eating homemade dishes. For those familiar with Middle Eastern restaurants, you will not only find the run of the mill staples that you will find in any such restaurant, but lots of dishes that are unique to the chef and owner which are always worth trying. The knafeh for dessert is not to be missed.

This place has credentials, so we tried it, We'll be back, but unfortunately we had the brunch offerings. We wanted the maloukia with meat, but ended up with foul mudammus and the hummus with meat, both too citrusy for our tastes, but on the brunch menu. The foul was not bad, just not enough to make a substantial meal. The hummus was excellent, creamy, but too sour (skin of chick peas removed but overly lemoned).
Malloukia is just a green that most Egyptians eat, but has proven remarkably elusive, even in Egypt, at least to average restaurant goers.
Brunch is not a good arbiter of a meal, so we will return to try other items on the menu.
Consistently Splendid
Truly one of the best restaurants in all of New York City, thanks to the culinary genius of the omnipresent chef, Madame Rawia. Delectable Middle Eastern/Palestinian flavors in perfectly cooked dishes. Can’t recommend a dish because they are all great! Go with friends and share many appetizers and a few larger-than-life entrees.
