TAO Uptown New York Reviews from The Last Year
Great Experience
The food, atmosphere and service was fantastic, loved it all from the decor to the fast service. The food was great, will be back
Abundant and very tasty dishes. Charming place
Excellent place, suggestive, in line with the prices of other American restaurants. Oriental cuisine and hearty dishes.
Very poor service
Some of the worst service I’ve experienced. It began with the hostess who was curt and borderline rude. It continued with the bartender, who seemed like he had more important things to do than help customers. And the waiter had to pay reminded several times. Really poor overall. Avoid
Super rad spot near Central Park.
..great mood, music and lighting with extra tasty items. Highly recommend the salmon and edamame Had an amazing waitress, on the ball, checked in and was fast and efficient. Couldn't have been better. We had non alcoholic drinks, the fojito strawberry was soooo good!.

Went her for my girls birthday I couldn't tell you how happy I was with our server customer service top tier the food was great and the portion size was pretty decent I'd come back again for special occasions I visit pao I'm now a fan of Tao

Had a fantastic girls' night at Tao! The Thai sweet and spicy shrimp stole the show, and the pad Thai and fried rice were delightful. Ending on a sweet note with the fortune cookie dessert and mousse was the perfect finish to a tasty experience. Come here if you want a more ambiance vibe - it's worth it!
Delicious food! Amazing ambience.
I enjoyed the bar area while we waited for our table which didn't take long at all. We had a great time we ate at this location 3 times during our 7 day stay.

Came here for valentines day! They had a box of free chocolates for everyone which was a cute touch. We ordered 2 shrimp appetizers. One of them was shrimp lettuce cups and the other was garlic chili shrimp with fried noodles. I preferred the lettuce cups which were tasty, crispy, and saucy. The other was good as well but the flavor got a little too salty/heavy after a while. For entrees, we got the black pepper filet mignon and the triple pork fried rice. The filet mignon was super tender and cooked well. Paired with the veggies and rice, it was very good. Definitely need rice with it as it can be a little salty. The triple pork fried rice was very good as well, very fragrant and a generous portion. Overall, decent Chinese food but definitely overpriced as you could get the same or similar at a Chinese restaurant for half the price- you are definitely paying for the nice environment.
The RUDEST staff.
We were here celebrating our son's birthday. When we walked in, we thought the decor was neat! However, things immediately got weird. The hostess led us upstairs, where there were many empty tables, and told us where to sit. As we walked to the table, she snapped at me and my younger son for walking the "wrong way" to the table (?!) It was an almost-empty room but apparently she *really* wanted me to walk counter-clockwise around the table and yelled at us to walk in a particular pattern to the table. We should have walked out right then, but I just told my son to do as she asked. When we sat down, it was in the back corner and a glowing iPad was attached to the bar and shining at me so I asked another staff member if we could move over to the next table. There were like 10 empty tables around us, but she acted like I had asked for something ridiculous. She rolled her eyes, scowled, and said we could move over. At this point, my husband suggested leaving because the staff was really putting a damper on our son's bday. But then, the server came up and asked for our order. I selected some sushi rolls for our appetizers. The server said no, we can't just put in appetizers at first. We have to decide everything we want to eat the entire night right away, and order it all at once. The server seemed super irritated that I wanted to order apps first and then order main courses. So we told him we'd just take sushi and drinks and that's it. We planned to go to a different restaurant for our main course. The sushi was good, but staff was so rude, it overshadowed everything else. On the way out, I told a different hostess how bad our experience had been, in hopes that maybe she could pass the message along to management so they can do some additional staff training on politeness and hospitality.
Manager is a big cry baby that hides behind the bouncers.
Goes and hides when he sends the bouncers, has no balls!!!!
Expensive but good portions
We were recommended to go to TAO downtown however this was full so we went to their uptown restaurant for dinner. First impressions were good, welcoming host and impressive decoration with a 16 foot buddha statue and water feature creating a focal point in the restaurant. The prices were expensive which was to be expected given the location of the restaurant however the portions were quite large so at least we left with a full stomach. We out a lot for business and I guess if you are putting it on expenses, (like most of the clientele in here will be doing) it doesn't really matter and the restaurant was full so I guess the prices work for them. Toilets and restaurant were clean and we'd consider eating there again.
Rude AF.
Hostess was rude. Manager was rude. Waiter was rude. Bag of jerks. Good sushi.
Extremely disappointing experience.
My guest and I were sick almost immediately after eating. I was really looking forward to an outstanding meal but it ended up ruining our weekend plans in the city. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place nor would I ever go back
My bf and I and his friends went there for a night out.
We loved it. Great Friday night vibe, yummy food, and excellent service. We ordered their grand desert and it was a show stopper. Highly recommend :)
So overpriced!
We were really looking forward to our meal here and left very disappointed. Upon getting to the restaurant we had to wait a while for our table - which seems silly when you book and pay a deposit to secure your space. The waiting room was cramped and very loud. When we got to our table the restaurant was very loud and dark - ambient but we could barely see or hear anything! The food was average and not at ALL worth nearly $300. The restaurant didn’t even take off the money we’d paid for the deposit. The whole place was just packed with people taking photos for Instagram. It was really quite a sight. People obviously go just to take photos and not actually are bothered about the food. But it’s very off putting when there are flashes going off in your face and you can’t get down the stairs to use the toilet because people are taking photos there. Seriously would not recommend, we felt like we wasted our money,
50th birthday dinner
Tao was amazing. The cocktails were awesome. The vibe was amazing and all the food was delicious. I recommend the short ribs small plate. It melts in your mouth.
Young, vibrant restaurant
This marvelous, super-popular restaurant was a great place to celebrate my mother's birthday. The whole restaurant has preppy Asian-fusion vibes, with cool staff and hip music. The whole crowd was young and vibrant. We checked in for our reservation and had a 10-minute wait in the (loud) bar, but we were then seated at a table upstairs where it was marginally quieter. The menu has a lot of options for everyone, with a variety of dim sum, small plates, and entrees. Food came out relatively quickly after we ordered. The Chilean sea bass was sublime, the red snapper had a deliciously small kick to it, and the eggplant side that came with the red snapper was delicious. I also really liked the duck egg rolls. The one thing I'll say is that the music upstairs got progressively louder throughout the night so that it got harder and harder to hear everyone else at the table.
A family favourite
This place never disappoints consistently good food great atmosphere friendly staff - food can come out slow but just so busy but a family favourite for us - well done!
Far too cold !
Sadly the restaurant was very cold and continued to be despite asking 4 times for the air conditioning to be turned down. So many tables had people sitting around in their coats, because it was so cold. Food was nice but served far too quickly. In and out within an hour, does not make for a memorable evening. Felt like they just wanted to rush every out, so they could get the next lot of customers in. Would not return.
A blast!
This is a packed, noisy, wonderful place. We sat at a round tale with 7 people and shared so many terrific dishes. The service is very competent and friendly and there was NO dish that disappointed. Try the giant fortune cookie for dessert. Enough for everyone--very whimsical.
Good Asian food with decent ambience
The food at the restaurant was very good as the staff who checked us in were outstanding and the lady who served us at the bar while we were waiting was awesome. However the server on the upper floor was less than ideal and his service was subpar. Did not think to check on us at all after the food was served and we had to ask for the manager, Chris, because of it. Hopefully, he will provide some remedial training. Food was great and the bar did a great job with my cocktail, but food service was below average.
