It's disappointing when a hyped up place doesn't live up to its expectations, but luckily that isn't the case with Tartine. You won't regret waiting in line to try the baked goodies here. I came around 8:30 on a Saturday morning and only had to wait about 10 min. It's a small bakery with just a few tables so most people take their orders to-go. If you come here, you have to try their bread whether it be as a sandwich or a loaf off the shelf. Their Country Loaf ($14.25) is the one of the best sourdoughs I've had. It has a nice crunchy crust and is perfectly soft and airy inside. I also liked their Pain Au Jambon ($6.95) aka ham and cheese croissant. It was light, flaky and cheesy. A more filling option is a slice of Ham and Potato Quiche ($9.50). The filling was fluffy and flavorful. For something sweet, go for the Morning Bun ($5.95). It's cinnamon sugary and has a hint of orange zest that gives it a unique flavor. If you really have a sweet tooth, the Banana Cream Tart ($10.95) is a must. The caramel in it makes it extra good. There are three locations in the city but this is the original one. It's definitely worth a visit when you want to splurge on some treats.
