The lunatic is on the grass?
We have been to this restaurant a number of times and found it decent if relatively expensive. One positive is that it has seemed to be dog friendly. This last time (Friday, around 1:15 pm) we were accosted by one of the employees of the way out. He needlessly orchestrated a confrontation on the grounds that my daughter’s dog had barked and “looked at him in a funny way.” Whatever his concerns, his demeanor and actions were unnecessarily offensive and, in many ways, simply bizarre. I will not be going back.

Wonderful croissants We went there to have some coffee and croissants and were not disappointed. The croissants were out of this world!!! My favorite was the Almond:). So flaky, buttery and just delicious! You will not be disappointment. The building itself is adorable. Maybe an old church?

Last year when I visited Santa Monica (Feb.-March 2022), I loved the food, especially pastries, at this acclaimed bakery. I was excited to return. Today was my first time back for a year. How disappointing to be served a morning bun which was stale and to pay $5 for a single cup of mediocre drip coffee.

We’ll start with the positives: this place is cute with a cute vibe and some cool menu items. It’s also conveniently located. Everything else, is kinda..eh. You have to have a validated parking ticket for the first hour and pay $3 for each hour over. The menu isn’t on the wall or anywhere near when you walk in and stand in line only to get to the front to pay for Maybe a tea or drink only to see a food menu now available? No instructions on the menu or suggestions were given by the cashier and it was my first time going. I had no clue what food they served outside or crossings. It’s kinda. A figure it out on your own kinda place. No asks on if I wanted sweetener in my matcha (drank it unsweetened which is fine but geez). Didn’t see a napkin/stirrer/sweetener Station or bin anywhere and no one asked if I needed anything else. Lastly, the tuna salad sandwich from the menu is cold, had way too much celery and not good. The avocado saved it. I won’t be back but super cute place!

Where to begin? Please do not be turned off by the long lines. Tartine staff has a well oiled machine and we did not end up waiting more than 20 minutes for a yummy breakfast that was just what the doctor ordered before our long day of hiking. I ordered an egg sandwich and a coffee to start and a morning bun to split with my husband. Loved it all and especially loved that they bring the food out to your table and have staff asking if you need refills on your coffee. Yes, Please! The picnic outside is lovely and is dog friendly. The other plus is free parking if you have Tartine validate your ticket. Win-win. And my daughter purchased a loaf of Country Bread to have with our lunch after our rigorous hike.

Fantastic treats, breakfast items and coffee in really nice indoor and outdoor setting. Consider ordering on line and picking up then eating there.

I love the original Tartine in San Francisco but had never visited another of its locations. There's always a worry when a beloved place expands that what made it special won't translate to a new location - but I was so happy that the quality of the baked goods on offer in Santa Monica was just as good as in San Francisco. Everything I tried from the menu was excellent - I only wish I could have tried more but as I was travelling solo, there was a limit to how much I could consume.

Seriously I could eat here every day and not get sick of it. The variety of food and pasty is pretty incredible and even though I went here practically every day for two weeks, every single thing I tried was great. My favorites were the Avocado Tartine and the Devll's Food cake!

Pros:
Lovely ambiance…dine outside in their garden.
The morning bun!
Kind, friendly staff
Dog-friendly
Cons:
Expect a line on the weekends
Guests linger at their tables, so it tough to find a seat when they’re busy.
Below average food including
Below average food including bug in salad! Service without a smile or kind word! The sausage egg sandwich not anything write home about either!

A very unusual Bakery. It was a Church in a prior life before they took over the property. It has great food and great atmosphere to eat your food inside or outside seating. Plentily of free parking in the downtown district of Santa Monica.

This great spot was right across the street from our hotel (The Ambrose) and we ate there for breakfast or lunch each day. The have wonderful breads, pastries, desserts, coffees, pizzas and sandwiches. Don't miss it!
