Don’t Care about Quality
While visiting Tampa we drove to get some of Ted’s smoked mullet, which was good a few years ago. We ordered the smoked mullet dinners, the fish was very dry and the skin was black, it was so over cooked. We tried to eat it since we came so far but couldn’t. Spoke to our waiter and he went to management, The wife didn’t eat her fish so they made her pay for the half eaten cold slaw and the potato salad that came with the meal. I was surprised they didn’t charge us for the extra napkins.

Nothing fancy about a restaurant where you eat at picnic tables. Smoked fish spread was as good as ever. The surprise, however, is their hamburger. One of the best around. I think they’ve been perfecting their key lime pie recipe for the entire seventy years of their existence!

A St. Pete landmark. It's been around forever. Still retains it's old Florida charm. Great service. Great food. Take a peek at the menu before you go. It's very limited with a focus on smoked fish. Not something everyone in your party might like. Believe it or not, the burgers are Fantastic at a smoked fish place.

They just lost a 40-year customer today. I grew up in St Petersburg and have been stopping there almost every time I visit. I stop by today for a small takeout order. Even though it was take out I left about a 15% tip. Then I asked for a small packet of Tabasco and the hostess told me she would need to charge me $0.15. The food would have been good with the Tabasco but was bland without. Don't bother tipping the wait staff here because they won't even give you a small packet of Tabasco. Goodbye Ted Peters.

Be the first to ReplyIf you've been to St. Petersburg, you've been to Ted Peters
As a family vacationing in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1951, we probably weren't the first ones to sample the signature smoked fish sandwiches at Ted Peters Famous Smoked Fish restaurant. But we had to be close. I still recall the sign on St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Max Lanier's bar across the street. Max is long gone. But Ted Peters continues to thrive, a family owned an operated restaurant for five generations. Located at 1350 Pasadena Avenue South in the South Pasadena neighborhood, near the bridge that connects St. Petersburg and St. Petersburg Beach, Ted Peters opened in 1951 and remains as unique and as popular as ever. Open from 11:30 to 7:30 Wednesday through Sunday, it is a cash only business with a limited menu of smoked fish sandwiches and dinners that feature mullet, mackerel, mahi-mahi and salmon. The menu also includes Manhattan clam chowder, slices of key lime pie and the house's famous German potato salad. At our latest visit, my wife and I each had a smoked salmon dinner with German potato salad, coleslaw, pickles, tomato sweet onions and lemon. There is something about the smoked hickory process that gives the fish a never-experienced-before taste. And, over the years, we've tasted all four of them, sandwiches and dinners.

I grew up on Treasure Island, just a few miles away, and this place has been a family favorite for YEARS. We serve the smoked mullet spread (ordered take out at the bar) for every holiday gathering and even at my sisters wedding reception (that's a long dam time ago). It's a bare bones place but they know their stuff. I'm not posting pics, because the ones already posted are spot on. Burgers are fantastic if you don't want the whole smoked fish filet, but you have to get the smoked mullet spread with saltines and Crystal hot sauce. It's addicting. Over the years, I have introduced many people to Ted Peters that now love it as much as my family does. It is a CLASSIC in this town.
Be the first to ReplyAmazingly fresh and takes you back in time!
The smoked fish are all prepared fresh daily and it makes a difference. I picked my smoked salmon right off the smoking rack! Extremely fresh and delicate fish with just the right amount of smoke. Smoked fish spread was awesome too. Made just like they have for over 70 years! Must have if you're staying at the beach or if you're lucky enough to live there :)

Amazing smoked fish. Shared the Famous Smoked Fiah Dinner with mackerel. But they also have your choice of salmon, mahi-mahi or Mullet. The potato salad and the Manhattan Clam Chowder are great sides. The server was very friendly and ready to assist.

We came to this restaurant for a late lunch, sometime after 1:30pm on a Sunday. We wanted to try the smoked mackerel but they were out of it, apparently it's a popular fish and they run out early in the day. Instead we had the mullet and salmon. The mullet was supposed to be a fatty fish however I found it to be rather dry and bland. The salmon on the other hand was outstanding, so moist on the inside. We also absolutely loved the coleslaw and German potatoes which come served with the fish diners. The fish spread was ok, had a slightly sweet taste probably due to the relish they put in it. Don't forget it's CASH ONLY, but in case you do forget, they have an ATM machine inside the smoke house.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely rude waitress
I have come here for many years but today I decided I'm done with it. I met some friends who had an extremely well behaved dog that didn't make a sound. We went to sit outside and this witchy waitress comes up and says "no dogs" and taps on a sign that was far from conspicuous. The attitude was totally uncalled for. I don't have any issue with them not allowing dogs but the way she approached was exceptionally rude. I'll take my business elsewhere. BTW, they've been cash only for many years.

A friend told us about their smoked fish dip-it is awesome!!!!! We first went a year ago and have been back several times since. Older, quaint place with inside/outside seating. They smoke all their own fish-mahi, salmon and mullet! Great place to see how they smoke it all, but gosh what a nice little surprise!!! ALWAYS busy! Waitresses are super nice-I believe our waitress was Sue-short blonde hair, middle aged. Great service! This is a must try! Five stars. BTW-VERY limited menu-burgers were great. LOOK IT UP!
Be the first to ReplyPerfectly smoked good-sized cut of high quality fish
We had attended a concert at the Steinway Gallery in Clearwater and decided to make a day of it by going to St. Pete's. We drove around and happened upon this roofed but open-air restaurant. Being big fans of smoked anything, we decided to have lunch there. The menu was sufficiently comprehensive, the prices were decent, the service was excellent, the time to fill the order was acceptable, the smoked mahi-mahi was yummy, the condiments were sparse but you could ask for more, and the restrooms were clean and functional. Smoked fish, yes! Clam chowder, NO!!! Please get a Boston chef to teach your chef how to make this dish. Barring that, we plan to return the next time we're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyRude and horrible service...

Be the first to ReplyAn absolute must-visit
Ted Peters is an absolute classic and continues to deliver on what they do best -- smoked fish, the best cheeseburger, iced cold High Life, and overall, a great ambiance. The folks that have been working here have been here for ages and continue to be the heart and soul of the establishment. No, this isn't the place to connect to WiFi, or where they de-bone your fish for you, and if you expect that, then I would suggest checking out a place like Bonefish Grill. This is a St. Pete establishment and I hope it never changes.
Be the first to ReplyOut of Everything but Salmon ($25)
Out of Everything but Salmon. First time here. A small, old building with picnic tables and small bar seating with a roof covering - no a/c just open air. A bit loud from traffic going by on the street. 7pm and they close at 7:30. Prices were a bit higher than I expected but the fish (salmon) was good. This is a cash only - no credit card business.
Be the first to ReplyDiners, Drive ins and DIVES
I love the TV programme as per the title. Sadly the TV show didn’t live up to reality. I’d call it a DIVE. First off I get it’s traditional but you also need to move with times. There was no accessible toilet/restroom or accessible seating. There was no WiFi either. When I asked I nearly had my head bitten off. The staff are not welcoming. When I chose a seat I was told I’d be in the way in my wheelchair. I brought my income to spend in your establishment. Help me help you. Then when we went round the other side and moved a few tables no help was offered. The fish was dry. It was expensive. The potato salad was bland. The best bit was the horseradish dressing. Like others we were told about cash several times. The owner should consider risk of staff and customers. I guess if you are a robber head there at 18:30 (near closing time) to find two mature rude ladies with a till full of tourist cash. Easy get away too on a Highway. The place is asking for trouble. It’s a dive. I had a better meal in red lobster.
Be the first to ReplyWORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!
The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I’ve ever seen!!! I ordered the mahi mahi and it had SIX bones in half a pound of fish. The manager came out and instead of apologizing argued with us. I’ve been eating mahi mahi for 27 years and never found a bone in that fish. I found six bones in theirs. He made it seemed like we were trying to get a free meal, not what we wanted… I can’t believe a place has been open 70 year with poor customer service like that. Just glad I didn’t break my tooth or choke on their fish.
