Incredible -- As Good as Japan
Let me start by saying that I am very picky when it comes to tempura. I have traveled to Japan many times and my mom used to live in Japan. This tempura bar is as good, if not better than, as anything I've had in Japan. The food was not greasy, the sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the food was absolutely delicious. On the tempura menu: corn, shrimp toast, uni, prawns, shimeji mushroom, mozzarella in shiso leaf, unagi, ika with uni and ikura on top, lobster, scallop with caviar, tofu with sesame paste, and wagyu. Also on the menu? Yamakake, salad with ume vinaigrette, sashimi (kanpachi, ลtoro, and tai), potato soup with goji berry, ochazuke, and flamรฉd sweet potato, green tea ice cream and ceremonial matcha for dessert. And how could I forget the bright green Kyoto matcha IPA?! Not only was the food delicious, the service was fabulous as well. I'd come back here in a heartbeat.

This place is simply amazing. It brings you a sense of being in Japan. Makes you feel good for staying away from the crowd of LA restaurants. If youโre looking to eat exotic food on a style of Michelin star. Thatโs exactly the place you want to try it out.
The hostess was extremely friendly and helpful. Which made us feel comfortable asking questions about the food and culture.
Authentic Japanese
Located at the entrance to Beverly Hills is this, from the outside, non-descript building which houses Tempura Endo. We recently dined at the Tempura Endo in Kyoto and wanted to compare. I am convinced that nothing can compare to the Kyoto location but this establishment comes in close. It is very pricy for the fixed menus (three to chose from) which cost $150 to $250 per person but you can order al la carte if you choose to. Each selection served to you is outstanding and fresh. You have a choice to sit in one of the small booths or at one of the 10 seats at the bar where you can watch the chef prepare each morsel. The staff were very attentive but spoke minimal English. The tempura fish was our favorite. Parking can be a real issue but you have two choices--next door is a $12 a night valet option (opens at 7:00 pm or 100 feet away is a free parking structure available after 6:00 pm. Forget parking on the street. Would I go back here--probably not because of the price and hassle parking but......?

This is as perfectly Japanese as a tempura presentation can be. Being at Tempura Endo took me back to Japan where servings were treated with high respect. Excellent ingredients bring excellent dishes.
Fresh and sweet prawn, crab, sea urchin, fish, vegetables, and top of the notch wagyu beef will bring me back to Endo. Oh, the prawn head is as good as it can be. If there was one thing that I missed it would be the fact that it was not in Japan, perfectly understandable.
Fantastic place
The food and service are always top notch. My husband is Japanese and he said the food here is authentic ( he is very picky so it means a lot to hear it!). I really enjoy their lobster tempura and soba noodles, the assorted sashimi is also amazing and fresh. They bring different kinds of salt for you to try with the tempura items ( green tea salt is my favorite!). Be aware: there are two kinds of seating. They have two private booths plus 10 stools at the bar. There is an option to order a la carte if you don't like pre fix menu. It's a great place for all tempura lovers!!!

While on my way to a sushi place, I saw the name of Tempura Endo, and having enjoyed a lot a documentary in Netflix about tempura traditions, I thought I would give it a try. When I arrived there was only a couple having dinner, but the ambiance was so perfect and the chef looked so authentic that I decided to go for it. The Japanese waitresses are extremely kind, and the chef is very nice and careful about details. The food is treated with art and care. Everything is extremely fresh and perfect. It can be expensive if you pretend to stuff yourself up. This is authentic, and Japanese people do not eat like a hungry Americans. Portions are small: one prawn, one small stalk of celery, one broccoli flower, one bunch of parsley, etc., but the tempura is thin as it should be. The conger eel is great! Definitely worth it if you appreciate Japan culture, traditions, and delicious tempura.

This place has potential to be great but just misses the point. Hoping to to have high end tempura standards that I have experienced in Japan but just disappointed. With the price point and name, I just expected more.
Food - 3
Just fair, nothing special. The batter is a little oilier than it needs to be. Also the oil used to fry needs to be changed more often.
Service - 3
Was just average. Only think different is that they wear traditional garb, thatโs it.
Atmosphere - 3
Simplicity without style. The wood decor just felt like it was missing something. Just a clean simple look without umph.
Will still try this place when I get a tempura craving but I always end up with questions every time after. Why did I go? Why the price point?...
A Taste of Kyoto in Beverly Hills
Having dined at the original Tempura Endo in Kyoto many times, we had high expectations for a wonderful experience. The master chef did not disappoint as he provided us with dish after dish of unique items cooked right in front of us. The Golden Eye sashimi was fantastic as well as the tempura-cooked dishes such as shrimp, corn, scallop and wagu beef. Efficient and professional waitstaff added to the wonderful evening. Now, the tempura seemed to be a bit heavier than that served in Kyoto but still the best tempura you will ever have outside of Japan!

We both had the basic Yasaka dinner as a la carte wasnโt available; although the website listed a la carte dishes.
Had average variety of tempura. Only 1 or 2 pieces of shrimp and seafood such as scallops, and hardly any vegetables. Overall taste was very good but variety was limited. Generous roll of uni, but wasnโt appealing to our tastes. Quantity of food was great as the meal was filling.
Service of course was excellent. Preferred the booth than the counter as that gave a great view of the chef without being too close to the frying.
By local standards, very high in terms of atmosphere, and tempura quality. A bit pricey at $150, tweaking the ingredients to about $125 might be more aligned. But comparing to comparable grades in Japan such as ten ichi in Tokyo, then about average.
