Worth a visit. Worth a star
Having had some omakase experiences, some Michelin, some not, we were curious as to how this could change our view on what is typically a Japanese cuisine. The service and ambience was nice, and other than some loud sounding customers, the overall feel of the place was good. We tried the most expensive of their lunch omakase, and every dish they served was as good as the best we had eaten anywhere else....and that is saying a lot, since we have eaten at so many good restaurants both in Japan and outside. Simple dishes done spectacularly is how I would describe the dishes. The combinations for each item just translats the best of "Italian cooking" using the freshest of Japanese and other ingredients. From a grilled sea perch in delicious broth blew me away with it's lightness of touch and richness of taste...and when the Uni and egg on crunchy bruschetta was just enough to be that little bit better than the caviar and the sashimi version I had just eaten before that. Most diners would have had the wagyu, but the portioning and juxtapose of taste with the Tasmanian mustard sauce really shows how much the chef knows his work. Other than the price (we spent more than S$400 per diner), this meal was simply one of the best meals we have had. Michelin star is deserved

Nice ingredients and good taste but for 1300-1400 SGD dinner for couples totally overpriced. The ambience of the restaurant, the limited set of courses, there are plenty of restaurants in SG with better price performance.

A japanese-italian michelin restaurant. 3 omakase menus - $208, $308, $408 and we chose the $408 just to see whatโs on offer The food in general was very good to great Let down was the service. Mostly junior staff, and they are not experienced enough: - my partner doesnโt eat sweet desserts, so they gave him sweet japanese fruits instead. And i got the same dessert whether i like it or not. They never asked me - the meal ended enruptly after the fruits. They wonโt tell you the meal has completed or thereโs no petit fours. They donโt even bother asking if you want tea/coffee 9/10 and barely

Weโve been waiting to try here in a while and left disappointed. Service was friendly and warm but many courses missed the mark for a S$1,300 dinner. Few nice touches along the way such as no petit fours or palate cleanser between main and dessert. Clearly pride themselves in fine ingredients but the ambience lacks character with wood chip on the walls and a hawker style toilet equipped with ageing Japanese spray bowl. I sense here is a victim of a lot of ambition with a matching price but leaves the end feeling like youโve paid twice for what have just eaten!
Be the first to ReplyTerra, possibly one of the best dining experiences
Itโs been three years since Iโve visited and the experience more than met my recollections and memories. This is one of my favourite restaurants. Not just in singapore but everywhere. Guests have a choice of three omakase menus (price points are SG$208, SG308, SG$408). Omakase means literally leave it to you (the chef in this instance). You donโt know what is being served as it depends on the freshness of ingredients that day. Our menu was seafood driven and the starter was a wonderful oyster followed by caviar, shrimp and uni. The fish was amazing and the crabmeat tagliallini amazing. The steak tender and flavourful. Terraโs thematic is Italian food inspired by Japanese flavours and inspirations. The wine list is good and thoughtful of the restaurants style. Aoki San the sommelier friendly and knowledgable. I would highly recommend Terra to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Lunch
Our Tuesday afternoon lunch at Terra was rewarded with several culinary delights. The One Michelin Star restaurant combines quality Japanese ingredients, flown in 3 times a week from Japan, to create interesting Italian dishes with a Japanese accent. Highlights include a rich and creamy oyster with an olive oil emulsion with fresh Japanese herbs and yuzu, an outstanding pair of bruschetta with raw Hokkaido prawns and uni, kinmedai in acqua passo (a Southern Italian style of poaching fish or in papillote) , a crudo of Japanese parrot fish with a basil and shiso pesto and shaved vegetables plus a delicious fresh tagliatelle in a light tomato sauce with Hokkaido king crab and bottarga. Terra is led by chef owner Seita Nakahara and his very able sous chef Melvin Chou. Itโs a small restaurant with a calm atmosphere and creative cooking. Well worth a visit.

Went there on 21/10/2020 to celebrate my birthday. The Omakase menu was a big disappointment, in fact the whole experience was not what we expected for such a pricey place. The place was over rated, the food was not good, the ambience was better than coffee house experience, staff was not knowledgeable in that when we ask about something they kept answering โ let me check first and come backโ..no spontaneity. The main course beef was a small piece of strip loin, (was expecting wagyu) other dishes was also small and truffle was stale! For the price we paid this is one of the worst experience. To top it off the champagne ordered for the birthday celebration did not come. I guess all these speaks volume for the place. Truly disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyOverrated and expensive!
Based on rave reviews and its Michelin star status, we decided to have dinner there. We went in with high expectations but left sorely disappointed. To be fair, the food was good but not exceptional. We had expected more from a Michelin-starred restaurant. It wasn't cheap either. As there wasn't any dish we could rave about, it made me wonder if reviewers were being honest in their views - just because many said the place was great should not cloud judgement.
The saving grace was the excellent service provided by the waitresses. But the maitre d' was friendly only to the regulars whom he knew by name.
We left feeling that it was not worth the money we paid.
Fabulous Italian Japanese cuisine in a beautiful ambience
We had the omakase dinner. 8 courses and the best were the starters... oyster, caviar, uni and scampi. The pasta with truffles and mushrooms, and A5 wagyu beef were good too.
The restaurant was tastefully decorated and service was excellent. The sommelier recommended an excellent pinot which complemented most of the courses really well.
Worth going, especially for a special evening.
Japanese Italian? Yes!
A nice cozy place with excellent service and a nice 7 course meal with very good wine pairing. Make sure you allow for at least 2+ hour to enjoy the experience. Each dish was done with are from the food, plate and the presentation!
Would definitely visit again to try other menu options.
Some 1 stars are more worthy than others
The omakase set lunch at $128 is well worth the price. The food though fusion in nature is never felt to be forced, unlike other places in the same segment.
Flavours, textures, colours flow seamlessly between Italian and Japanese cooking. You can taste the verve and conviction in the food.
I always wondered how and why it lost its 1 star.
Fantastic Italian Japanese Fusion
Celebrated my wifeโs birthday dinner at this restaurant. Reservation requires credit card deposit. We were assigned the private cubicle which was very cosy. Ordered the $308 Omakase set with $160 full wine pairing.
Starters included oysters, prawns, capellini with uni, and the finale was the A5 Wagyu beef. Service is excellent with careful attention to details as well the explanation before each dish.
Birthday Celebration
Japanese+Italian cuisine : the chef did it so well that each dishes were simply heavenly. Wine list was great too. Small yet cozy set up in Tanjong Pagar, not extravagant but tastefully done up. A memorable birthday celebration for me!
Be the first to ReplyMichelin star worthy Japanese-Italian cuisine
Tried both lunch and dinner โOmakaseโ sets and terra Tokyo Italian certainly does not disappoint! Using only the freshest ingredients flown in from Japan, the Chef whips up delectable dishes using classic Italian methods. The combination is simply delicious. Prices can be very steep for dinner, starting at $208++ and goes up to $408++. Wine pairings are also available as an add-on. Interesting to note that wine pairing here also includes Japanese sake which goes very well with seafood. If you have a strong preference for meat dishes, do tell the Chef in advance as dinner menus can be mostly seafood. For a taste of terra without breaking the bank, do check out their lunch menu. terra is a well deserved 1-star Michelin restaurant.
