Horrific owner
The owner of this place is one of the most aggressive, unhinged, combative of men and has no business operating this establishment. I was victim of his verbal and physical abuse a couple of weeks ago after being a supportive patron for 10 years. I was there with a group of 12, ready with our cash as that is the only form of payment that will accept. We were there to enjoy a band we love and had seen there previously. I have since read copious reviews that tell a similar story and it is beyond concerning and troubling. Curiously, the South Pasadena police seem to be easily available for the owner to quickly call and have those he assaults โescorted outโ. He also later happily admitted that he had assaulted me, hit a shot of tequila and enjoyed himself knowing there would be no repercussions. Truly an incredibly despicable experience. Hard NO for this place

This is the most disgusting bar I've ever been to. The food is awful and the service is worse. The owner Daniel de la Torre is a real loser. This guy likes to manhandle his customers and verbally abuse his staff. He should be in jail, not running a dirty little Pasadena bar.
Be the first to ReplyOld school since 1951
It was originally named the Crossbow and changed to it's current name in 1993. This is my 2nd time visiting this local watering hole. We dropped in to see the Jazz band play on a Saturday night. It's a nice cozy bar to relax and enjoy the music. I wish they would expand the beer selection and add some local beers on tap instead of the commercial big name bottle beer companies.

We like to eat at and suppprt historic restaurants in Los Angeles County. Today being our anniversary we decided to visit Barkleys in South Pasadena. It was our 1st time and we couldn't get out of there quick enough. Not a soul in sight. Completely empty at 3:00pm on a Sun. Very little light inside with dark woodsy furniture & decor. Bartender was extremely rude and my Bloody Mary was the worst. The menu was unimpressive so we paid for our drinks and hit the road never to return.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, good music, and good atmosphere.
For a night out with great food, music, and fun, this is the place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The building is old, late 50s, and will need repairs soon. The restroom was very clean. That is unusual for a music venue bar. Thanks.

For those seeking experiences, visiting The Barkley is an amazing step back into about 1952 (if only there were smoke curling from ashtrays at the bar in front of 7 & 7's, Highballs, and Gin Rickeys). I personally love that vibe; I would likely be "one of the regulars" nursing a drink at the bar if I lived here. This night, there was an amazing swing quintet with a fabulous girl singer, and couples of all ages hit the dance floor with delightful Fox Trot and Jitterbug swing moves. So, check their entertainment schedule and go for a fun time with drinks and friends!... ...But don't build your visit around dinner if you're any kind of "foodie." My responsibility to my fellow travelers here who are researching evening/dinner plans obligates me to report that though my dinner looked nice and the ingredients seemed fresh (salad with bleu cheese dressing, and chicken breast atop pasta with vegetables), it tasted as though there had been an intentional, diligent effort to extract and eliminate any iota of seasoning or flavor from the food. Quite remarkable, actually. So by all means, grab a bite first, then come here when they have entertainment to enjoy an amazing experience with drinks, music and dancing -- throwback style!
Be the first to ReplyAh! Peace & Quiet!
This is the perfect hide away from the rush and tumble of most lunch places. Enjoy being treated well for a change. Good for quiet business meetings or just a meal at the well stocked bar. Lunch special are all good and reasonably priced. Service is wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyNew menu has fewer items
When I first came here the menu was at least 10 pages, it has now been reduced to only 1 page. The food has always been good, only now you have far less to choose from. The bar drinks are well worth the price.
Be the first to ReplyDependable
I've been coming here as long as I can remember. Even after moving out of State and come back every once and a while. I did notice a change this time as during the lunch hour, my usual time, there was a good lunch crowd. Now only a handful of customers mostly the regulars from before. The food was still good, not great, and the busboy was a better server than the waitress. But over all it is still a nice place for a decent lunch and quiet atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyConsistant
They have been around since I can remember and the food has always been consistant and dependable. The crowd is usually older. I take my parents here for special occasions and holidays. The wine selection is limited and the corkrage fee is steep. All in all it is a dependable neighborhood restaurant.
