We have eaten at the Bombay Club for 18 years, every time we come to DC; it was our "First date place" The food is wonderful. The service is great. But last week when we were there, we had a surprise. My wife, a vegetarian ordered one of their vegetarian mushroom entrees. I had a seafood dish. Our companions had two meat based meals as well. We all had wine. we had appetizers and Nan. All of our dishes were in the $28-$35.00 range. When the bill came, I noticed we were charged for a rice extra ($5.00) that we did not order. When we questioned it, the waiter explained that it was a charge for the rice to accompany the vegetarian entree. This was the $28.00 entree. None of the meat based dishes were given this charge for their rice. Never has this kind of "extra" charge happened to us for a vegetarian dish at any Indian restaurant anywhere, or there before. How does one eat a vegetarian dish with no rice? I objected to the charge, mentioning that all the rest of us had our rice as a "given" with our meal. They refused to remove the charge. We have loved this restaurant. We felt however, that the charge was simply padding the bill. We will never return to this restaurant. They lost loyal customers over a $5.00 bowl of rice upcharge. Sad. Goodbye Bombay Club.
