A night to remember
Words cannot fully describe what a wonderful evening my family and I experienced at the Cookery last Thursday .. A big shout out to Mark who went out of his way to accommodate us in our dinner selections and seating.. Our waiter was attentive, patient and just a joy The combination of all involved along with the food , wine , and atmosphere made our daughters birthday celebration a night to remember This was our 4th visit to this eatery and they Never disappoint.. Thank You so much for your Hospitality .. We had such a Lovely evening

It is Hudson Valley Restaurant week. We could not get a table so we’re seated at the bar. This restaurant is simplistic in decor but exuberant with their dishes. George behind the bar was excellent on explaining what makes this place very special! Every dish was amazing! We cannot wait to go back and try more of their delectable dishes Lorraine S.

This popular restaurant didn’t disappoint. The food was very good, but the octopus dish was too salty. Still, we really like eating here and we’ll be back for sure.

Everything was Perfect.. I had read yelp reviews and others and felt a little skeptical.. Some commented on the loudness of music - I. didn't find it an issue at all.. Also that table were too close... Nope not an issue.. Maybe it was the time ..for we had a 7pm reservation.. Food was delicious .. We had the meatballs and crostino as appetizers.. My husband had the rack of ribs .. I had scallops .. And my daughter the rigatoni Madeira.. All very good.. Their specialty is cooking with different ingredients and mixing it up .. And ones pallette just goes. WoW Definitely recommend and definitely will go back.
Be the first to ReplyA glorified pub not a restaurant deserving great reviews!
We came for brunch on Father’s Day which admittedly can be a difficult day to go out. This review took that into account and has nothing to do with the service because our server was actually good. Food coming out slow was to be expected. We really don’t get the great ratings for this place. We haven’t been here for years and I now remember why. We won’t be going back. The brunch was $39.95 3 courses including in our case a Bloody Mary but there were other choices. The drink was fine. There were plenty of choices for brunch even for this fussy eater. For starters I went with their homemade mozzarella and my wife had their pizza rustica. The mozzarella though homemade tasted more like commercial. The best part of the dish was the bread that accompanied it. My wife’s pizza rustica was basically a quiche Italian style. Both were nothing to write home about. Next we both had ricotta pancakes that tasted like regular pancakes. We had to ask for syrup and were given 2 tiny cups. The dessert may have been the best part of brunch chocolate polenta and strawberry ice cream. This place has zero ambiance. It is nothing more than a noisy pub. There are wooden tables and chairs that are not particularly comfortable. It’s a fine place to come to for a burger and a beer and watch a game with friends. Although it will cost too much. Do not come and expect to have a pleasant conversation with your dining partners.

We had seen excellent reviews for The Cookery for a couple of years. It has a 4.8 rating in Open Table and a Michelin “rating.”We went with high expectations. Th octopus appetizer was perfect. The wine was average, but overpriced. The main courses were an extreme disappointment. The Branzino was ok, but fairly tasteless, nothing special. It was accompanied by cold, overcooked, tasteless chopped broccoli rob, which was presented on top of the Bronzino, which naturally got cooled and arrived room temperature to the table. The Bronzino lay atop an unknown creamy starch, also tasteless and cool. The Pork Osso Bucco , on a plate too small, sat on a bland polenta with a dollop of vinegar infused apple sauce that ran into the runny polenta. The atmosphere did not make for a pleasant meal. It is a pub-like ambience, with blaring music. All in all, if you decide to try The Cookery, our recommendation is stick to a drink and an appetizer.

Whenever visiting Dobbs, we always gather with the extended family at Sam’s. The food is delicious, the menu broad and varied and the service excellent. It is a highlight of our trip home to visit family. Authentic Italian cuisine and always the highest quality. The specials are amazing. One of my favorite restaurants in the country, probably because it feels like home.

Very cosy place with original cooking. The waiter was excellent, explaining in great detail all dishes we asked about. The branzino - whole fish wrapped in thin crust, with super tasty brown butter and caviar sauce was delicious. The chocolate polenta desert was also excellent.

We truly enjoyed our dining experience at The Cookery. The service and food were excellent, the menu fresh and original, with a fun vibe and atmosphere inside the establishment. Street parking was easy, just around the corner from the restaurant.

We had high hopes for this place. Reviews were so good and a Michelin star. Bread was slightly burnt. Osso buco was very heavy. Duck liver cannoli was interesting but just a weird combination. Desserts were very sweet. Parking in the area was terrible

Had dinner with my wife and a friend, excellent restaurant. Nice local flavor to it, food was both very good and reasonably priced. The place was clean. The service was excellent. Our server, Nikki? was very good. We will definitely go back there.

We travel in Italy every year so we’re picky about Italian and Italian-American food. Our dinner at Cookery was one of the best of the Italian-American cuisine we’ve had in the USA. The food (creative and delightfully prepared), wine list, lively vibe and service were all outstanding. Brava! We’ll be back.
Be the first to ReplySomewhat disappointed
After hearing so much about the “pigs head donut” I was disappointed to find out they have not served that dish is years. The menu is limited in my estimation along with the beer choices ( if you don’t like IPA your screwed). My portion of Radiatore Bolognese was “children sized” with a sparse amount of lamb in it. Not sure when bread and butter on the table was a thing of the past. It will cost you $8 if you would like some. No value for the dollar here 🙁

Look, the food is tasty, but it's not particularly original. In fact I would have given this review 3 stars, but the service, especially during COVID, was exemplary. We were accommodated with a spot outside on a nice night even though we had booked an inside table. We were seated right away, and our server was friendly and gave good advice. As for the food and drink... The food was so, so rich. I mean everything was either fried, or covered in some sort of thick sauce, so yes some of the dishes were sinfully good. It's just that I've had more inventive versions of these fine dining dishes such as ossobuco or liver pâté elsewhere. I just didn't think the chef's approach worked for me here as much as it did in their recently closed sister restaurant Eugenes in Portchester. Eugenes took traditional diner food and elevated it to something marvelous. It was just as rich as the food at The Cookery, but as their concept was doing cool things with tuna melts and breakfast sandwiches, this seemed totally appropriate. I do so hope the owners can bring back Eugene's again in some other location once the pandemic has lifted.
Be the first to ReplyTakeout Massively Underwhelms
I wish this review could be more favorable; however, based on our past two takeout experiences it just cannot. For out first takeout all the hot dishes were way too salty. Even my twenty year-old's immediate reaction to tasting her chicken al matone was 'this is very salty'. The watermelon salad was not cold, nor cool, since it was packed with all the hot dishes, hence the mint was also wilted. Likely more attention should have been taken with the packaging. And the polenta, although good, looked like pancake batter in it's rectangle shaped dish which was half-filed. Some garnish would have made it look more appetizing, or possibly using a small round dish. Our second takeout dinner, although not salty, had no flavor. And that was with every dish we ordered.
All considered my family and I feel the Cookery's takeout experience just gets 'lost in translation' so to speak. We realize life is different at the moment and we in the community are willing to be supportive of our local businesses but the Cookery's kitchen needs to be more consistent and mindful of their customers' 'takeout' experience.
Warm and friendly place with imaginative and outstanding fare
On a back street of Dobbs Ferry, the restaurant has emerged as one of the most original and comfortable establishments in the area. The menu presents the most unusual combinations of ingredients: every one that we have tried has been outstanding. The octopus is one of the best that we have had as was the black bass perfectly prepared. The service was friendly and knowledgable. Finally, as opposed to a few years when we went there, it was quieter and nicely dimly lit.

15 years coming here. Done. You people hire waitering staff that does not understand that the costumers are spending 35$ per plate each, plus the drinks, plus appetizers. Pay attention to the order. Leave your self-centered nonchalance attitude at home. You came to work to make a living from people that pay 35$ per plate. Understand that!!! Be humble and not fake with your careless action and empty apologies. Restaurants are about food and those who could pay for it. Not about you - waitering staff with all the untouchable mindsets. Bye-bye cookery and all of your branch restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyFeeling Cooked in Dobbs Ferry
On a cold, rainy Sunday evening, we were excited to taste the culinary delights of a restaurant that engenders passion from many reviewers and a very high rating from TA. The first bad sign was the bread. Most Italian restaurants are famous for wonderful bread, usually required to finish off a great pasta dish. The grilled bread was grilled but bland, devoid of any appeal. Moreover, at the Cookery you are charged a premium for this unfortunate turn off. One of our part ordered the cauliflower ravioli. It was wonderful and worthy of high praise. Unfortunately, that was the only enjoyable dish. We ordered a simple, classic, although off the menu, alio-olio, past with garlic and oil. It was almost inedible. Further disappointment included an unfortunately recommended peanut butter chocolate dissertation that did nothing to embarrass a Reese’s candy bar. Finally, we suffered from a waitress wearing a coat and scarf who clearly wished she was anywhere else that evening.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Brunch!
We went here for a birthday brunch and it was absolutely spectacular. Our group of 8 was seated as we arrived for the very first reservation of the day. Surprisingly, there were only a few duplicates in our food orders and everything was looked delicious and was. The portions are somewhat all over the place, the butter potatoes were giant and enough for 2 or more people, while the Polenta was just right.
Our group was seated in the front, as such we had a nice unobstructed time at brunch. Our water never ran out and those of us who ordered coffee had enough refills to last the morning. Our waitress was extra attentive and nice and overall everything was perfect!
Good food, great service. A bit pricey. Street parking.
Nice, cozy restaurant/bar. Not very large inside, so can get crowded quickly. The food was very good off the menu or from the list of specials. Service was outstanding. Prices were a bit high, especially for the appetizers. There is only street parking which is a pain.
