Happy Kitchen = Happy Food
It just doesnโt get better than The Cottage in Westport. Brian Lewis has been a nationally renowned star chef for many years and he wears the accolades with humility. We have followed him through his culinary journeys from the Bedford Post Inn, the Elm, and now The Cottage and OKO. I always look into the kitchen when I go to a restaurant. Even when they are in the weeds (like on The Bear), a good kitchen will be working together to put a great meal on your plate. I mentioned to Chef Lewis the other night that the culture he creates shows on the faces of all the staff in his restaurants - and winds up the star of the table for his lucky customers. Everybody is smiling and helpful - even in the midst of the madding crowds. Kudos to the bartender for the best Old Fashioned. As for the food - the deviled farm egg is one of my favs, along with spaghetti alla chitarra, and the marinated & grilled lamb saddle. And the dessertsโฆeverythingโฆbut give the Other Sundae a try! Always the best ingredients on the table from local purveyors in this comfortable setting serving up complex dishes. OK, it doesnโt get better than The Cottage in Westport, unless you are at OKO (also in Westport) or The Cottage in Greenwich.
Be the first to ReplyVery good experience but not memorable
We ate outside on a pleasant evening. Understandably the menu is small like most good restaurants given todayโs current challenges. That said , the staff is undertrained. The table was under or even not bussed begin courses. This should not have to be a request . The food while good and above average did not deserve an excellent at least this night . A James Beard nominee the chef nay be but last night was underwhelming and would.not be on my list for repeat visit.
Be the first to ReplyLovely filled with charm
Very good food in a cute setting. I chose to be seated outside but the small dining room also oozes charm. The food is modern American with plenty of global touches - and very well presented.
Be the first to ReplyAlways simply excellent!
Last night we yet again had a wonderful dinner at The Cottage. This restaurant over the past few years has become our familyโs go-to for special occasions, and also the spot my husband and I like to grab a romantic dinner. Last night my brother-in-law joined us - an investment banker who often eats at the best restaurants all over the world. I knew he would be blown away by the food, drinks, service and atmosphere! As usual, The Cottage delivered. Perhaps even more impressive, not only did the adults enjoy the delicious food, my two teenage sons loved every dish. A lovely family evening in a lovely spot. I hope we will be able to have many more.
Be the first to ReplyWorth the wait (and the cost!)
We visited for an anniversary dinner recently - the staff were kind enough to provide a complimentary glass of champagne when we arrived! They were very knowledgable on GF options and were able to provide excellent recommendations and advice on suitable dishes. We shared the charred octopus (incredibly fresh) and chimchurri cauliflower to start - awesome flavours. For mains we both had the lamb which was also delicious. Wine options bu Welcoming and intimate atmosphere and great service. Wine options by the glass are relatively limited, but nice choices.
Be the first to ReplyOk dining experience.
Most of the sterling reviews on TA are fairly old so maybe the restaurant, which is highly rated, has lost a step. Nice looking dinning room pretty noisy when full though. Servers fine but the mains come out slowly. Pretty expensive ($250 for two with one cocktail each and no wine) but thatโs ok. Highlights were the nap bun and the lentil soup which were inventive. The duck was ok but serving just green cabbage with it was a mistake. Scallops good but only a few on the plate. Iโd probably go agin to try a few other choices. Limited menu.
Be the first to ReplyNothing Special
I'm surprised they got such great ratings in Ct Magazine, and James Beard recognition. I found the menu very limited and the dishes we fine but nothing special. Maybe I'm used to great restaurants in LA, but to me this is not great, it's fine but that's it.
Be the first to ReplyA little disappointing
The food was very good. The service was rushed, even though we arrived on time. The server gave us the bill before we had finished dessert. The main room is noisy. Would not recommend for groups.
Be the first to ReplyMother's Day at the Cottage was exceptional!
Too often dining out on a holiday is a less than happy experience. Limited reservations, set menu, harried servers, and over-priced food. This was not the case today at The Cottage. Our first courses of burrata plus, fluke sashimi, and dug potato and ramp soup were superb, followed by a small pasta course. Main courses of beef tenderloin and rosti potatoes were not a cliche, while a third diner enjoyed a superb Black Bass. The Chocolate Pot de Creme dessert completing the meal was exceptional. The service was professional, as usual. It is no wonder that The Cottage is considered among the best in Connecticut and perhaps in the whole country.
Be the first to ReplyGood vibe
Nice restaurant, cozy and modern. Service very friendly and professional. Deviled eggs outstanding, hamachi too warm and rather tasteless, crab toast too salty and rather tasteless, wagyu brisket bun with kimchee outstanding, duck rice interesting but could use more salt. Small but good wine list, interesting cocktails, Sticky Toffee pudding donโt order. Uneven food, not fine dining for modern American cuisine this is a good place but The Inn at Pound Ridge is much better. 3 to 4 times a year place, not cheap.
Be the first to ReplyHighly recommend The Cottage. We had a large party and the service was superb.
We had a large party and the staff did an amazing job serving all our requests. The food was perfect. We started with appetizers and ended with delicious deserts. Oh and by the way, the drinks were fantastic! Highly recommend you check this restaurant out.
Be the first to ReplySunday Brunch at The Cottage is a delight
Sunday Brunch at The Cottage offers an unusual menu. You may think typical eggs, toast, pancakes, french toast, and so on, but their menu is interpretative and exceptional.
Be the first to ReplyGood food, lousy service, cheap napkins
Food was great, HOWEVER- Upon seating, noiced my napkin was filthy They give you dish rags as napkins. Considering the pricepoint of the food, they should be giving linen napkins. Cheapest bottle of wine is $60 - seriously overpriced Service was terrible. Server never came to check on us while eating. She never asked if we wanted another drink. She just removed the wine glasses as we finished. She also wore a plaid shirt over whatever she was wearing. Did not fit in with the place. Server was NOT dressed appropriately. She wore a plaid button down shirt over another shirt. She had absolutely no personality our food came out way ahead of other people in our party. would never come back.
Be the first to ReplyFood poisoning, wanted to like the place
A friend recommended trying The Cottage given its credentials and I was very much looking forward to it. The outside appeal is quite nice, and has a nice ambiance (this is where we also say to dine). Service was quite fast but things were forgotten here and there eg had to ask for lemon for water three times. The apps were REALLY delicious: I had the crab toast, and my friend had the bao buns. We were both a little disappointed with our main meals: she got the salmon and I got the lamb. While the lamb itself was flavorful, it was a little tough (even for medium) and the accompaniment (farro combination) left more wanting. Regardless, I started feeling queasy within an hour of eating and donโt have to share what happened later! As a physician, Iโm assuming staph food poisoning from something that unfortunately must have been sitting out or that was reused the following day. The lamb was fresh, so must have been the crab bearnaise and less likely the farro accompaniment which is well-cooked. Iโll also be calling the restaurant to advise them about this today. Wish it could have been a better experience but wonโt be returning.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food with Good Outdoor Service
Always excellent and inventive. Fine cocktails and good limited wine list. Large range of small and sharing plates and some substantial entrees. Short ribs in nap buns, Jonah Crab toast, and scallop nigiri crispies all stand out. Desserts are equally creative. Yum.
Be the first to ReplyKeeps getting better with each visit
Inviting bar and human scale (small) dining room. Best of New England fare with wonderfully prepared dishes of lobster spaghetti and squash agnolotti. Duck Fried Rice just OK, spicy squid a winner.
