We came here for dinner on Sunday.
The atmosphere and vibe were nice (it was a little loud but that wasn't an issue). The service just really seemed to be lacking and the food honestly could have been better. We did have a bigger party (7) so I'm taking that into account, but it's really not an excuse. The waiter just didn't pay attention to our table. We all ordered our food which consisted of a few appetizers and main dishes. The appetizers came out fairly quick and they were good (fried and curds). Probably took about 30 minutes (It was probably longer) for half of our main dishes to come out. We eat together so we began to wait for the other half. The waiter then walks up and gives me the bill. This is BEFORE the other half of our meal shows up. He didn't say anything. Just gave us the bill. I looked at my partner and said "that's weird right"? She said "absolutely". Ten minutes later the rest of our food came out. We never saw the waiter again. Pretty sure he left. Im not going to speak for anyone else at our table, but my main course just wasn't up to par. I ordered the scallop and pork belly. The scallops were good but the pork belly was over cooked. Burnt. So we eat our meal and a different waiter comes to the table and tries to collect the payment. I had to tell him that they dropped off the check before the meal was even fully served and we never even got asked if we wanted a dessert menu. So we ordered a dessert (it was my daughters bday) and left. I know that this place is good. It's obvious, but they were not on their game Sunday night when it came to my tables experience. They certainly didn't live up to their reputation. The service we received should never happen at a place like this. One would assume that once you read this, that you'll reach out to us. It's not hard to find the reservation for 7 on Sunday at 7:15pm.

Our server was gracious and accommodating, ensuring every aspect of our dining experience was perfect. We would come back just for the service.

When you think of The Duck Inn, you think of duck, right? And you should, because the duck is wonderful, and that alone is worth the sprint to Bridgeport. But what if I told you that they also served the best seafood I've had in 2024, Walleye over clam chowder emulsion. Generously portioned, crispy skin, cooked to perfection, it's the best walleye I've ever had at a restaurant and it topped all of the Dover soles in recent memory. Escargot ravioli with spring peas and truffles was the perfect accompaniment to my walleye. This was an exciting and unique dinner. I loved it! The Duck Inn is only an 11-minute drive from Fulton Market. And there's ample street parking. Order your rotisserie duck in advance on their website, but definitely order the walleye and escargot ravioli, too! Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the walleye. The Duck Inn 2701 S. I love walking in the duck inn. The service was perfect and the food was perfect. Of course you have to get the whole roasted duck with salad and roasted potatoes. It's cooked perfectly. The walleye was a great choice as well as was the farmer's vegetables. We ended the evening with an amazing panne cotta dessert. Highly recommend the Duck In
Be the first to ReplyPerfect meal.
Everything we had was fantastic. The duck wings were so good that we needed more. We ordered the rotisserie duck in advance and it was spectacular. The theme throughout was flavor. I wouldn't change a thing and am already planning to go again. This is a great place to share food with friends.

This was such a fun, delicious night out! We tried so many fun things (duck fat fries, brussel sprouts, fried cheese curds) and then shared the duck and the giant steak. Both of the entrees were fantastic. The steak was so juicy and the poutine fries that they sat on were so delicious. The duck was tender and the salad was refreshing. We had a giant table reserved and our server was super friendly. Overall, an excellent night!

Came for a birthday dinner! Preordered the rotisserie duck and they gave us a cute rubber duck to put on the table! Surprisingly, the rotisserie duck wasn't our favorite dish of the night, we also waited about 40 minutes between our last dish and the duck being served which was strange - they did give us a free dessert as an apology though which was appreciated! The beef tartare, burrata, and scallop & pork belly were all 5/5! The flavors were all fresh and rich! The duck was a 3.5/5, not sure if it was also due to the amount of time we had to wait for it, but it wasn't as great as we thought it would be... the meat was still tasty though and not dry at all!

The food was amazing and they really took care of us it was so fun that we came for the beginning of their Chinese new year menu. We began with the egg rolls which were amazing. Had duck fat fries. Loved the Asian flavor of the duck. It was so tender and tasty. Wine service was great. Chef Hickeys food is so well prepared . Looking forward to coming back

Call ahead for the duck! It was delicious and more than enough for two people! Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and attentive. She recommended the mussels and I'm so glad she did. I always want to eat mussels with lobster now! It was dimly lit so it felt more like a "date night" vibe, but the tables were spaced appropriately and it felt very comfortable.

If you want to fall in love with duck again (or for the first time) this is the place to go. The rotisserie duck (for 2) is SOOOO good. The skin is crispy and the temp of the duck is cooked to perfection. The duck fat fries are crispy and these mussels with chorizo & lobster is to die for. This was love on a plate and a perfect early valentines dinner for us.

It's dark and intimate. It was one of the first places I took my wife when she moved here from North Carolina. We still visit every so often. We love the food.

My wife and I are on this ridiculous winning streak with Chicago restaurants. We are asking a lot of Chicago and Chicago keeps on delivering! You can't be on this towering ride (food wise) without a hiccup looming just around the corner. But, with that being said, I'll let these provocative "chips" fall where they may!The Duck Inn was yet another fantastic restaurant the city of Chicago has in its repertoire. Everything about The Duck Inn worked:The food was inspiring and delicious. The service was impeccable, from the greeters to the seaters to the wait and bus staff; they all seemed happy being here, and in turn, that made you happy, being here. The ambiance had this contagious comfort to it.And, their menu was so stylishly curated, you just knew you were going to leave here pleased. We ordered:* A Whole Duck - I mean, Sun Wah BBQ was my end-all duck place in Chicago until The Duck Inn massacred it. This sliced duck (with whole parts also) just melted in your mouth * Duck "OG" Hot Dog - yeah, better than perfect. I'd come here for just this and a beer and call it a night * Burrata - BBQ beets, creamy charred beets, and arugula made this a very scrumptious salad* Brussels Sprouts - with brown butter crumble and capers was excellent* Mushrooms Parmesan casserole - my personal favorite!!!!!* A wonderful yet affordable Bordeaux * An exceptional Super Tuscan red yet (again) affordable * Apple Panna Cotta & Upside down cake - were our desserts that we devouredYes, our dinner was pretty perfect, and we four souls completely enjoyed our experience here at The Duck Inn and will most definitely come back!

I brought my friend of 20 years to this restaurant as an introduction to Chicago and I made the best decision EVeR! The food was extremely tasty, along with such a comfortable vibe and smooth customer service. We had to try the Duck!! I've never tasted duck before, but this place made it one of my favorite dishes. I'm a sucker for good fries and any restaurant that passes the fry test will be high on my list and the Duck Inn passed with flying colors! Fry's were crunchy, yet soft in the middle and sauce that accompanied them were very good.

I came for the tasting menu, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect, seeing this brightly lit little building at a corner of what was definitely not the kind of neighborhood I expected to see a cute restaurant in-- not unsafe or anything, but it is not easy to get there by public transport, and if you take the bus, there may be times where you are walking down the street alongside cars because there are no sidewalks. However, immediately upon entering, it has such a warm, comfortable neighborhood vibe! The tasting menu was delicious. Each portion was small but just enough, and the number of courses was exactly right such that by the end, I felt satisfied without feeling like I was about to explode. Some memorably tasty nibbles: the oysters, the beets that came under the fried scallop, a surprise bite of their duck inn hot dog, and the mashed potatoes that came with the wagyu! I also had the Ben & Jerry cocktail, and oh, yeah, would definitely order that again.Service was very kind, polite and efficient without being obtrusive, which is especially nice, and they include a small surcharge for service worker health coverage, which I also like a lot. That said, while I came for the tasting menu, I was actually completely drooling over their main menu (those duck wings and the roasted duck and the short rib looked so good) so I really want to come back at some point to try it!
Be the first to ReplyI feel like this is a place where familiarity with the menu
I feel like this is a place where familiarity with the menu is necessary to have a great experience. For example, while the hot dogs are tasty, they are not $12 tasty - I'd rather eat 2 Portillo's hot dogs and have enough for a 3rd in leftover change than buy one of Duck Inn's hot dogs. That being said, other things are the menu are pretty amazing - especially the duck. Coming from an Asian background & eating Peking Duck growing up - I have a preconceived notion of what good duck tastes like, and Duck Inn's rotisserie duck blew my expectations away. Fantastic crispiness & the duck jus flows into the salad and fries, adding amazing flavor to everything it touches.Their salmon was cooked very nicely - seasoned well and very tender & moist. The charred broccolini had just the right amount of smokiness to it. In terms of drinks - the Zen by the Sword is a bit punchy, be ready for that agarwood (smells like turpentine). The Tusk & Temper is so so so good, but I'm a sucker for a good mezcal.

Inconsistent is a word that comes to mind when it comes to this restaurant. My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary. Everything was delicious except for the whole duck - which I believe is their claim to fame - the fat was not rendered properly on the breast so you were just chewing a piece for about 5 minutes, some parts were rubbery, some undercooked, some overcooked - just a mess. The animal style fries were delicious, pork belly was perfectly crispy, Brussels were a bit soggy but ok. But we loved it the first time because of the fries and dessert (even though the corn cake ice cream was over-churned). So much so we went again two days later to order those two things. The second time, it was awful. Fries were soggy and undercooked. So we went to dessert because how can you mess that up and it was perfect the first time. Dessert which was my favorite was undercooked. And we stopped at that because yuck. The only consistent matter was gross drinks. The drinks are certainly not for everyone and they were not for me. It also dawned on me that we were seated close to the chef window. He came out multiple times and greeted guests at a table next to us during our first visit and served them multiple times but didn't bat an eye at us. On a good note our waiter Justin was great and the waiter from the first night was awesome as well. I recommend going to duck duck goat - they actually know how to cook duck properly...

Back in the winter of 2020, I kid you not when I say I smelled this place as I drove past and immediately asked my friend in the back seat what it was called. Since then, it was on the top of my list, but I knew it had to be a for a special occasion. So I finally went The Duck Inn provided me with safe refuge from the brisk November air that resonates off of the south branch of the Chicago River. You're immediately engulfed with a warm and undeniably romantic atmosphere. Even what is typically meant to be an off night for a restaurant turned into a busy evening very quickly - with the sound of laughter and camaraderie bouncing off the walls of what seems to be an old Bridgeport home reconverted into a restaurant. It is, and has been, lived in. I wish I had prepared to spend more that day, because I wanted to order just about everything on the menu. This time, we went with the Grilled Octopus and the Rotisserie Duck signature and were not disappointed. The Grilled Octopus appetizer plays with textures. Topped with pickled black mustard seeds to provide a crunch, a soft relief with the dill apples, and then the beautifully charred octopus with none other than a homemade sausage of duck and octopus. The fried egg dijonaisse lightens up the dish to reach a perfect balance. Then came the Rotisserie Duck. A dish that echoes around Chicago with good reason. This meal cures the soul. Everything that could be said has been said about the duck. Crispy, juicy, delicious - something you truly have enjoy for yourself. Paired with some crispy potatoes and a nice and bright salad, this is a great dish to get for a pair (with plenty leftovers) or for a group to share - and essential to the experience. They have a great menu of cocktails. The Tusk and Temper is essentially a mezcal paloma and I could drink that all damn day. A nice selection of beer and wine as well - a good place to go with a group but definitely get a reservation!! Plan to stay and enjoy your company. Unfortunately for the staff, it's almost hard to leave. The food makes you want to eat past your limit and the ambiance makes you lose track of time.Hardworking staff. As someone with experience in the industry, it goes a long way to see the type of effort that they put in all over the floor, front and the back of house (based on my view into the service window/expo). Be patient with the wait staff - they have a packed house.Long live the duck
