During our recent stay at the Shashi Hotel, I encountered a mix of experiences that diverged from their advertised 5-star standard. The hotel's boutique nature, with only 200 units within the Google campus, sets it apart from others, offering a unique location just a short walk from the Googleplex. Our booking process began smoothly with an early check-in and room upgrade managed through the hotel's app. However, complications arose when the app failed to provide us with our room number and mobile key. Despite proactive efforts and assistance from the upbeat front desk staff member, Evelyn, the app continued to malfunction, leading us to resort to a traditional check-in. Upon arrival, we appreciated the convenient covered parking. However, the promised room upgrade was unavailable due to a booking error, which was promptly rectified with a refund. The hotel also compensated for this inconvenience with complimentary water bottles. Unfortunately, the Broma restaurant was closed for a private event, though we had reservations for the following night. The room itself was spacious with a well-sized bathroom, though we struggled initially with the light switches and the Smart TV's streaming capabilities. The first night was particularly challenging due to the lights and TV spontaneously turning on, which we initially mistook for a ghostly encounter. This issue was later resolved by using the main switches, although the front desk's response to our phone call was less than helpful, attributing the problem to a simple need for new batteries. Our second night proved more restful after learning the correct method to power off the TV (hold the power button 3 seconds to full turn it off including its screensaver) and ensuring the recessed lighting stayed off. We also faced difficulties with the hotel's spotty WiFi, which was crucial for submitting my projects. The front desk provided access to a more reliable, secured network after explaining the ongoing network updates. On our departure day, we encountered another hiccup when our key cards failed to work before the late check-out time, requiring assistance from a cleaner to access our room. The front desk attributed this issue to a staff oversight in adjusting the key card's validity. Dining at the Broma restaurant offered a mixed experience. The food was inconsistent, though the cocktails were enjoyable. Due to the lack of nearby dining options, Broma served as a convenient, if not exceptional, choice. In summary, while Shashi Hotel demonstrates potential, it falls short of the seamless experience provided by larger, mainstream hotels. Issues that arose during our stay were addressed, but many could have been avoided with better foresight and system checks. The hotel's service and amenities were generally good, but there's room for improvement to truly align with its 5-star claim.
