Wonderful experience. The international team are fantastic. Service first class. Thank you Heston - fabulous job. Well worth the trip from Perth!
Be the first to ReplyGreat show - not much magic!
Great show - not much magic! On Thursday 14th March we had lunch at The Fat Duck, We were a group of six. The food was interesting, the service and team were very good. The waiting staff demonstrated how good table service should be, they were very knowledgeable and presented the food well. An important element for us was a couple of dietary requirements, which included one member of our party who is in the early stages of pregnancy. These were dealt with exceptionally well on arrival and throughout the meal โ amazing attention to detail. However, the magic which I had hoped for was in limited supply. I had heard stories from friends who had visited before, of how, using a variety of ingredients, culinary magic would happen before your eyes. Sadly, this was not my experience. The only magic was the first course the Nitroaperitif. The show was great, and whoever imagined and constructed the presentation has done a great job. Yes, the food was beautifully prepared and presented. The quality of the ingredients was probably the best available. The team presenting and serving the food did a great job. However, for ยฃ275 per person, this was an expensive experience. In addition, coffee and tea were extra and there was a discretionary 12.5% service charge. I was looking forward to the magic that I believed Heston Blumental at The Fat Duck had bought to the culinary world, but I was disappointed. In my opinion, at ยฃ275 per person, without drinks, without tea or coffee, this is an extremely expensive experience which I will not be partaking of again, I was disappointed. Another element, possibly out of the control of the restaurant team, was the loud and in appropriate behaviour and language of another table close by. In conclusion, it is sometime since I had the opportunity of visiting a three-star Michelin restaurant. In my opinion, my previous experience exceeded my experience at The Fat Duck.

On many occasions over the years, I have visited the top ten restaurants in the world, sometimes visiting three Michelin starred restaurants in one day (7 stars in one day) I will literally fly anywhere in the world to eat at the very best. I have flown to San Diego just to try a burger at hodad's, flown to Chicago to eat at a three star, flown to Tel-Aviv to eat at a two star vegan restaurant, flown to Memphis to eat the very best BBQ in the world..I love food It's been my passion, hobby, love and obsession to eat at amazing restaurants for over 25 years, I've been able to do this as a result of working and saving hard. During these amazing 25 years, I have visited the Fat Duck over 20 times. The food at the Duck never disappoints and always amazes me.. there is something so very special at the Duck.. innovation and cooking at it's very best. Although I have been to many other three star restaurants all over the world, the Fat Duck is still my favourite. The staff are unbelievably good, really fantastic and always make us feel so very special when we dine there. I'm looking forward to dining there again soon โค๏ธ
Be the first to ReplySimply the best culinary experience we've had
My wife and I visited the Fat Duck for my 50th birthday and the experience lived up to everything we expected. From bumping in to one of the staff in Bray for directions, to being welcomed in a relaxing and friendly manner, the food, service and ambiance was exceptional. The Sensorium tasting menu was innovative, exciting and most importantly fun, allowing us to experience new things we had never tasted or experienced before. Bravo!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience... but there is a but
Going to this restaurant is an event - and it is truly unique. Such a clever culinary experience. If you have the chance then do go. We did have a grumble however - some of the explanations of the culinary creations by the clearly enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff were so long, that but the time they'd finished, in several cases the hot food was warm at best. We found ourselves watching the food cool for three or four minutes while the staff went into long and sometimes rambling monologues. One dish was pretty stone cold by the time all the intricate details were fully explained. The portions are quite small (for obvious reasons) so they do cool off quickly, and the ambient room temperature isn't overly hot. We thought about complaining, but decided it wouldn't have really helped, and would have spoiled the ambience. However, it has definitely been one of our talking points with all our friends who were excited to hear about it.
Be the first to ReplyOnce in a lifetime experience
This was a bucket list essential for me and it did not disappoint. My husband took me for my 50th birthday and the staff were all aware and made me feel like a VIP all evening. The story tellers were passionate and informative. The food was sublime. We went to the wine cellar and had a tour of the kitchen. We ate our sweets the next day so continued the experience at home. Anyone who is considering coming here should 100% do it, you wonโt be sorry.
Be the first to ReplyWife's 60th birthday lunch. on another culinary planet
Not three star without a reason . Went here for my Wife's birthday celebration, the whole vibe was very chilled although obviously there were some seriously wealthy people here. I won't go too much into the food as I wish I hadn't researched so much before we went and this slightly messed the surprise . Suffice to say, every dish in the tasting menu was a complete surprise and delight. As usual in these top Michelin starred places you are able to have some good banter with the front of house (contrary to a lot of peoples expectations) . Very expensive but you need to come here at least once in your lifetime
Be the first to ReplySimply amazing
Just a wonderful experience and great staff. We had the Xmas Menu, the food was superb, staff chatty, not stuffy as some Michelin starred restaurants are and you smile all the through the experience. Treat yourself, a great box ticked
Be the first to ReplyA unique, one-off experience, but itโs hard to live up to expectations if you already know all the secrets!
In a sentence: A unique, one-off experience thatโs worth coming to for a special occasion, but itโs hard to live up to expectations if you already know all the secrets! Restaurant: Staff - 10/10 For somewhere that is famed for its food, the staff are arguably the highlight. They are well-trained, friendly, and put you at ease immediately. Particular shoutout to Alex who was passionate and enthusiastic throughout. Location - 8/10 The dining room is cosy, if not slightly dingy. You are very close to other tables which can spoil some of the magic if you hear/see dishes ahead of you. Price - 6/10 You can swallow the eye-watering price by justifying it as a one-off experience, but food and the cheapest wine paring for 2 set us back ยฃ1100+. Food: Nitroaperitif - 7/10 Uniquely served and refreshing taste. Beetroot - 8/10 Intense horseradish, light beetroot, great. Red Cabbage Gazpacho - 6/10 Gazpacho a little too salty for my taste and mustard ice cream lacked any real punch. Lasagne of langoustine - 7/10 Delicate, tasty dish - unfortunately the langoustine was slightly tough which was a shame. Sound of the sea - 10/10 One of the best plates of food Iโve ever eaten. The fact they serve this with only a fork and spoon (no knife) shows you how tender the seafood is - perfectly seasoned and includes a variety different textures. Outstanding. Bread and butter - 6/10 Nice, crusty bread and creamy butter. But it is ultimately just bread and butter. Jelly of quail - 6/10 Not sure whether it was because the dish is served cold, but I felt the flavour was lacking a bit here and the quail jelly texture is slightly odd. A nice dish, but is more visually impactful than it is taste-wise. The Duck - 7/10 Thereโs nothing too crazy or gastronomic about this dish - just a well-executed plate of food. The duck cigar (aka their take on a duck pancake) was a highlight. Cheese and Grapes - 7/10 Cheese and grapes, or is it? Iโm not a big fan of blue cheese so Iโm glad the flavour was quite mild - nice textures and flavours. Hot and Iced tea - 7/10 Cool and novel course, especially if you donโt know the twist ahead of time. Taffety tart - 8/10 Delicate, tasty dish. Really nice. Like a kid in a sweet shop - 9/10 The most theatrical part of the meal - the wrong drawer popped out for my sweets but they quickly found the right one. A really nice touch to finish the meal.
Be the first to ReplyThe best restaurant in the UK
Another amazing meal at the UKs best restaurant. We were treated to probably the best meal in the UK to date. Heston pulled it off again. We were truly blessed to be able to go again and sample this incredible restaurant. As always we were looked after and decided to take the wine flight. Couldnโt have asked for anything better. This is simply worth every penny. If you done ever go anywhere else in your life. Go here. Go. Enjoy.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Celebration
Dined with husband and daughter for my Birthday. Greeted outside by a member of staff, coats taken and shown to our table. I was presented with a personalised Birthday card signed by all the staff. We had done our research and had decided weโd all have the wine flight. You are given a set of cards similar to trump cards. You are asked to pick your preferences which is sweet treats given to at the end of the meal in in a sweet shop bag. There was 10+ courses so would take forever to detail in this review. Enjoyed all the courses and given the opportunity to see the kitchen at work and picture taken with the Head Chef. Mid meal we went upstairs into a room to taste a glass of wine. I wonโt spoil it but the experience was definitely thought provoking. Staff couldnโt have been more helpful and very informative. Restaurant arranged and escorted us to the taxi.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing experience - everyone should try it!
Just Amazing! Yes the food is exceptional and so it should be, but the staff make it. You can tell they work very very hard and do care about their jobs! all the staff were exceptional. Nothing was to much trouble. They all have different characters and make the evening really really special. A real credit!
Be the first to ReplyChristmas Present
Christmas present and been looking forward to the experience for weeks and weeks. 3 Michelin Star restaurant in Bray. It was an experience that I am glad I have had but probably a once in a lifetime event. Arrived at 6.50pm. It does not open till 7pm. Greeted by one of the many staff and shown to our table. Experience was explained to us by our Storyteller. All a bit strange but enjoyable none the less. Course after course with an explanation before by way of our Storyteller and information on our light box menu on our table. Includes a visit to their wine cellar witch is upstairs? Staff very attentive and food beautifully presented. Not all to our taste and some a bit unusual. Highlights were Beef, Rhubarb and Bread and Butter. Good atmosphere. Expensive. Worth a visit if you fancy something different and can afford or being treated. Their website is very informative.
Be the first to ReplyStill very good, but no longer outstanding...
We came March 2023 to the restaurant and was a repeat trip from 4 years earlier, making it our 3rd visit in total. While i wont post pictures to disappoint diners, there restaurant is clearly at a crossroads with its vision. Heston is of course, no longer active in the day to day operation and as a result you feel that the cooking is a little confused between visionary, fun dishes which is what Heston was famous for and classic trained French dishes from the head chef who is Roux trained... We had one dish which was seafood risotto. The dish was outstanding in taste, but it simply wasnt a dish that Heston would have put on the table and there were a few others like that which for me felt that the restaurant had lost its way slightly.. We compared the pictures of this meal vs what we had March 2019 and while there was overlap, sounds of the sea etc, it was pretty clear that since Heston has "left" they havent been able to introduce that wow factor, put a smile on your face dish and laugh, which was what this restaurant was famous for.. Its as if, a lot of the courses are still stuck in 2007..... What was also disappointing was the wine pairings. Not the quality but when you opened the ipad it told you every course you were going to have and the whole aspect of the meal is meant to be the surprise factor... Not sure what they were doing here. Also the wine pairing menus were 169gbp, 379 or 1900 gbp off the top of my head and a lot of the 169 and 379 per head tastings had the same wines on it from my recollection.. Also one other minor negative was the glass of champagne we ordered as an aperitif. It was Billecart Rose at 44 gbp a glass, but you dont get a glass, you get half a glass. I know there are expectations as a 3 star restaurant on standards, but at 44gbp it was woefully short on what customers normally expect from a glass. The card concept starter game is also pretty pointless and serves no great purpose while the "sweets" from the house were also a lot worse than what we got 4yrs prior looking at the pictures... Service was of course good and attentive, just felt that the story didnt flow that well. All in all, i do think the restaurant has lost its way a little. You can also see it from the booking process. For a restaurant that doesnt have that many covers it doesnt sell out as fast as it used to.
Be the first to ReplySo much fun!
It's really not about the food as much as the experience. I've certainly had better food than this before. However, the experience makes it the dinner transcend into something more more fantastic. The restaurant is loud from all of the excitement of the dining experience - but it's hardly noticeable. It's pricey, but it's definitely worth going once in your life.
Be the first to ReplyBest dining experience ever
This was the best dining experience of my life to the extent that for the rest of the month, no other food held any interest to me. I cannot recommend this highly enough. It is the ultimate dining experience. We went for a birthday, the staff were so amazing (in addition to amazing food) they even gave the birthday boy a card.
Be the first to ReplyIf you're on the fence about the cost...
Personally I would never have booked the Fat Duck, quite simply because I couldn't see how I was ever going to feel a meal could justify the cost of ยฃ375 per head. In fact if you take the wine pairing (which you really should as it adds so much more to the meal) it pushes over ยฃ600 per person. But it's been on my wife's bucket list of 20 years and so we booked. Apprehensive at first it didn't take long for the Fat Duck to change my mind. From what I understand Heston was never traditionally trained and instead self taught. I feel in this context that lends him an advantage and makes the Fat Duck what it is. Rather then traditional thinking of "I'm going to make xyz dish the best I possible can", instead its "I want to make my customer experience xyz, and to do that I'm going to invent a dish and execute it the best I possibly can". Its an experience first and a meal second and whilst extraordinarily expensive, I can say I don't feel ripped off as I feared I might. Instead I enjoyed it immensely, the food and the experience is sensational and I would/will most certainly go back.
Be the first to ReplyShellfish mistake
I had pre-notified the restaurant that o didnโt eat shellfish before the meal and re confirmed when I arrived at the restaurant. They served me shellfish anyways as part of their sounds of the sea course. This is the one course they wonโt explain whatโs in it beforehand so I didnโt have a chance to even catch them. I knew there was something wrong while eating it. They confirmed it was shellfish at the end. It was really upsetting and destroyed the night. I couldnโt get into the rest of the dinner after that. Extremely disappointing for a three star Michelin restaurant!!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, bucket list experience - bit rushed? Staff turnover?
Had an amazing meal at The Fat Duck. I've never experienced flavours so complex. Every dish so intelligently made. The craftsmanship was outstanding. Not to mention fun! I've wanted to go to The Fat Duck since I was 17, so was very excited after a 15 year wait. Only downside was the service. We were there during the first two weeks of service for this particular chapter. Because of this I think there were fewer guests and lots of staff. So it felt very busy with staff bustling everywhere, so less relaxing than I'd hoped. And a few times the drinks flight appeared before we'd finished the previous. Overall this made the experience feel a bit rushed. It might just be because we were within the first two weeks. I also think it would have been better if we were served by one person. Being served by lots of staff made it difficult to build up a rapport over the evening, something I've enjoyed at other restaurants. Of course, everyone was infinitely professional, but I kind of felt like sometimes they didn't really want to speak to you/ weren't interested. It's easy to pick up on things like that. Speaking to some of the staff, it also sounds like few of them had worked there for more than a year/6 months, so wonder if that's having an impact. Granted, there are recruitment challenges the world over. So yes - excellent meal. But I've had better service from other restaurants, considering its a 3 star. For the whole package try Ynyshir in North Wales.
Be the first to ReplyA Christmas treat at The Fat Duck
We were sure to be disappointed when we visited The Fat Duck. The reason why is that The Fat Duck started in 1995 and often the innovation spirit disappears after such a long time. Luckily The Fat Duck proved us wrong. This evening was a top-5 for us. The dishes were superb, the service was immaculate and the wine was great. Everything was just fantastic and had a great Christmas vibe to it. We would love to visit again some time. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.
Be the first to ReplyBucket list experience
This wasn't just a fabulous meal, it was also an incredible culinary experience. The staff explained every course, it's concept and ingredients to make it all the more enjoyable. Put a visit to The Fat Duck on your bucket list!
Be the first to ReplyWhat an experience!
It's difficult to know what to expect from a restaurant when you don't know what the menu will be but the whole experience went way beyond anything we had even thought of. The food was incredible and the combination of flavours and taste was absolutely superb! The whole experience was completely enhanced by the waiting staff and storytellers. Even though the restaurant was full you felt as if you were the only ones dining there and the staff had all the time in the world for you. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very special. As dining out goes this is expensive but worth every single penny. We had thought that once we had been we would tick it off our bucket list, but that is definitely not the case and we can't wait to go back again (just need to save up!) If you are celebrating a special occasion and want something memorable and exceptional this is definitely it! Thank you to all the Fat Duck Staff for a truly outstanding evening.
Be the first to ReplyBad experience
Bad experience, never will attempt to visit the Fat Duck again. They are just mocking the customers, only interested into profit, greedy.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable Evening but Very expensive
Went here for a special occasion. Was a very enjoyable evening. Took around 3 and half hours with 11 courses. Food was excellent, intricate and amazing. Service dropped slightly, as we had multiple times for more bread, and twice for the bill before it arrived. Worth a trip as a one off experience. But the price for the meal doesn't include service or drinks, so factor that in.

Under normal circumstances, I would write a fair and balanced view of our visit to the Fat Duck. We enjoyed the delightful experience so much. Our entertainers , the very clever way it was presented, the taste sensations !!!!!!. I could write ad infinitum. If you are reading this and have been there, you will know what I mean. Otherwise.........GO !!. Unforgettable
