Second time there and can confirm our first impression of superb service, food, drinks and ambiance. Highly recommend this incredible place.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice place in the River North area.
Very friendly staff - thank you Ugna! - and a great selection of drinks and a wonderful menu. The setting is in the basement and it is very nicely done. Will definitely return!

We had the best dinner here! Great ambiance and incredibly friendly staff. The mussels were the best I've had in Chicago! Came for my birthday and they gave us a free dessert which was delicious. This is the perfect spot in River North for a low-key dinner. I wish I remembered our waiter's name because he was excellent!
Be the first to ReplyIt was our first time in this restaurant.
We took advantage of restaurant week. We got lamb chops, tuna, steak and chicken. Basically whatever was in the restaurant week menu. Everything was amazing. Lamb chops were my favorite. If you love chicken, this chicken roulette was not dry at all. It was juicy. My husband does not eat raw fish, but he loved tuna dish. Mezcal espresso martini was definitely was different. I love espresso martinis. And i wouldn't order that again. But waiter warned me when I ordered. Anthony our server was amazing. Really friendly, takes care of you. Very positive. I actually wanted to write this review because of him. His hard work needs to be noticeable!

I always wonder why this place has so many open reservations because it's really good! The wait staff is so friendly and always helpful with recommendations. They also have great drinks! My favorites this time we're the Wild Mushroom Tartine, the Truffled Ricotta Tortellini, and the ribeye. The mushroom Tartine we actually got by accident, but thank god because it was so good! Maybe a little hard to eat, but very tasty. The tortellini is a classic here and never seems the disappoint. Just enough truffle and cheese. As for the ribeye, I'm not usually a steak girl but wow, the sauce, the garlic, and the steak itself were all great! We also got the butternut squash which was my favorite dish last time I went but got upstaged this time. The steak tartare which I thought was just ok. The whipped formaggio which was too much greens. The taro fries which were great for snacking on the side. And the crab cakes which were a little flavorless to me. The chocolate cake was a great way to end the meal!

Was visiting from out of town and wanted a nice dinner speakeasy vibe and this was perfect! Along with the aesthetic we enjoyed the music selection and the food was spectacular!! We drank the mussel broth it was so delicious. Our server was quite pleasant as well. It was the perfect dinner date. Absolutely recommend.

If you want to impress someone from out of town this is the place to go. By far one of my favorite dining experiences. The bartender we had was amazing. He has invested a lot of time in making this place great. He even let us try a cocktail he's been working on. The restaurant is beautiful and tucked in a basement under the L. As far as food goes it was amazing. The Seabass melted like butter and the tartare was great. Dying to go back again.

Fantastic!! I had a wonderful dinner with my family at the Franklin Room. It was highly recommended by two different colleagues, and they were certainly right! We started off with their craft cocktails and starter. We ordered oysters on the half shell, lamb chops, spicy bourbon mussels, taro fries. The oysters were accompanied by an amazing spicy green sauce and a mignonette. I wanted to buy a bottle of the green sauce. The same with the spicy bourbon mussels. The spicy bourbon sauce was divine. For cocktails, we had the Winter Wanderer, You Dirty Bird, Long Train to Fresno, Lock-Loaded and Night Scene. They were so delicious, we had another round of these awesome spirits. For dinner, we shared the Pasta Al Pesce, Truffled Ricotta Tortellini, Mediterranean Seabass, Bristol Bay Scallops and the amazing Prime Bone-In Ribeye. Even with five guests, we were full and had leftovers to take home. Next time, we will be mindful to save room for their desserts!Even in 13 degree bitter cold, we walked to the restaurant from our hotel (12-15 minuted walk). It was well worth it!!

Best whisk(e)y selection in Chicago - not necessarily the largest, but the most well curated. I recommend sitting at the bar and following Peter's suggestions. The food is excellent too.

The Franklin Room is probably my #1 recommendation in Chicago. I took a friend here for a birthday and had the absolute most amazing experience. It checks all the boxes: ambiance, service, food, price, and experience. There seems to be a lot of street parking available even on a Friday night which was super convenient. I made a reservation weeks ahead and was checked in without a wait. My friend loves whiskey, which was why this was my first choice. It's such a classy speakeasy. We both loved the interior and atmosphere. There are whiskey bottles lining the exposed brick walls - it's beautiful. They have lots of whiskey and unique cocktail options. The food was exceptional. For the two of us, we ordered:-truffle ricotta tortellini -pasta Al pesce -marinated butchers steak -roasted butternut squash sideand some drinks Everything was absolutely amazing.. PHENOMENAL in flavor and presentation and quality. I will definitely reorder the truffle tortellini and roasted butternut squash. So far - my absolute favorite place in Chicago. Our server was very nice and took very well care of us. We will definitely be back to try more off their menu!!

Overall: Highly recommend this place for drinks, dinner, dates, business meetings, and everything else in between. Will definitely return!Tastiness: I came here as part of a group of 5 and everyone enjoyed their meals and drinks. My husband is a big fan of this place and has always been pleased with their whisky, scotch, and burbon selections, and the sea bass and ribeye. I tried the truffled ricotta tortellini (too creamy and rich for my taste) and the taro fries (highly recommend). My dinner companions tried the Chilean sea bass, the Mediterranean bass, and the salmon and all were thrilled with their meals. Presentation: Thought and creativity definitely went into this and it turned out great! Everything looks delicious.Service: Excellent knowledge of whisky and beer, prompt, fun, engaging, and relaxed. Very enjoyable experience. Best part is that we walked in around 7:30 and were seated without a reservation (got super lucky).Ambiance: For such a busy place on a weekday night, this place is pretty chill and you can enjoy the company, music, and your food and drinks. Cleanliness: Very clean throughout. Price: Entrees ranging between $27-37 (with the ribeye at $69), sides between $10-16, and cocktails around $16. Well worth for the quality, service and ambiance.

I wanted to show my friend who is from out of town the Franklin room because he's a big whiskey fan. We did a great tasting that was recommended by our server, Anthony. The host and Anthony accommodated our time adjustment and made sure we were seated immediately! We thank you so much! We had such an amazing time! I love Franklin rooms' speak easy vibe and ambiance ! It feels like I'm in a different era when I'm there. We also got the lamp chomps, which were amazing! Perfectly cooked and tasted flavorful

Everything was wonderful and the prices were reasonable given the quality and portions. The mussels were phenomenal but they should really include more baguette but they brought more when requested. I could have drank the broth. Loved the tortellini. Just enough truffle without being overwhelming. The salmon was great and cooked well but a little underwhelming compared to the other dishes. Cocktails not pictured were delish. Beautiful interior and excellent service.

First time dining at The Franklin Room last night and I was blown away. The ambiance was great for Valentines Day, service was excellent and I loved the Japanese whiskey flight. My wife had the salmon and I had a steak both of which were winners. Will be back soon.

The entrance is awkward-- you open the door and then head down stairs that end at a host stand so if there are several groups at once it's a little strange... That being said our server was wonderful and ALL OF THE FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE. We had the mushroom tartine- must trySpicy bourbon mussels- so goodTruffle paste- best pasta of my LIFEthe mango cheesecake- sweet, tart, & creamyA few different drinks but "you dirty bird" was magicalYou will not be disappointed if you give this place a try! Just get past the host stand!

Had dinner reservations on a Friday at 5:30, it wasn't too busy around this time yet. Heard Franklin Room has the best Old Fashioneds so naturally tried one and it did indeed live up to its expectations. Food was incredible as well, 1000% recommend the scallops they were the best I've ever had, the truffle tortellini was incredible as well, and the kale salad had some of the best dressing I've ever had in my life. Service was very friendly and quick. The ambience is cozy and unique. Recommend this place to anyone looking for a nicer dinner or any old fashioned aficionados. I will be coming back in the future to try the rest of the menu, everything is just too good.

The service was good, very nice gentleman who took care of us. They didn't have any white wine or Casamigos. The drink my friend had was awful, but she didn't want to complain so she drank it anyway. My Cabernet felt like the bottle had been sitting out for a while. The food is pretty expensive for what you get. I took my friend out for her birthday and the food was a bit disappointing. I won't be coming back here. Not for these prices, I'd rather go somewhere else where people actually dress up. Very casual dressed people here, we felt overdressed.

Huge selection of whiskeys! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and patient while he explained all the options we had. We ordered the lambs chops, bone in ribeye and the scallops; All three dishes were delicious! We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyOur first visit to The Franklin Room (we'll be back soon)
Our first visit to The Franklin Room (we'll be back soon) was amazing. The west coast oysters were sweet and tender and made me happy that my husband doesn't eat oysters. All mine! For the main course, we ordered ricotta ravioli and the bone-in ribeye. The ravioli was tender, and the sauce was absolutely delicious. With the truffles and the mushroom cream sauce that was both sweet and savory, it was probably the best vegetarian meal I've ever had. My husband's ribeye was perfectly rare and flavorful. We had chocolate crunch cake for dessert, which was creamy and a delightful balance between sweet and bitter chocolate. Everything was delicious!
Be the first to ReplyWe had an amazing time.
We're going to dinner at torchio but stopped here before. Music is great. Vibe, on par. Peter was our bartender. Incredible. My bf asked what type of whiskey was in the old fashioned and he stopped and took the time to talk about it. Gave him a sample of just the whiskey and explained it. I ahead questions and he went above and beyond to explain how each drinks hits. Will be returning. Drinks are great.

The girl at the front host stand could provide a reason and be nice.

Another fantastic meal at The Franklin Room! I dunno how this place got less than 5 stars bc our experiences have been absolutely stellar thus far!!The mussels were just as tasty as before and the bone-in ribeye had my normally pescatarian bf in literal tears of joy. (I'm a bad influence, I know.) I can't even think of anything bad from tonight's meal. This place is a must for food lovers!
