Unforgettable dining experience
The Grill somehow manages to thread the needle of “fancy,” “theatrical,” and still “relaxed.” The ambience is refined, the service is exceptional, and, despite being served by people in tuxedos and seeing your food being presented in a trolley with a silver dome, you still feel relaxed and able to enjoy the meal. And the food is delicious. We shared: tuna ravigote (refreshing, light), pasta a la presse (the definition of “theatrical,” and also very rich in flavor), honey mustard duckling (crispy skin, tender meat, mustard sauce with a delightful kick to it), and the prime rib (amazing texture and flavor). For dessert, I recommend the lemon chiffon and the cruller. Drinks are strong. Highly recommend for a special dinner; it’s an experience you won’t forget.

Beautiful surroundings, fantastic staff, beautiful food. Lovely wine. I do think $18 is steep for fries but the rest of the food and wine good value for what we ate.

Great restaurant for food and architecture enthusiasts. Located in the former Four Seasons restaurant space it still remarkably preserved the historic gastronomic flavor of 1959 (good mannered and dressed staff, many dishes prepared and celebrated with trolley service right at the table, traditional Mies van der Rohe architecture). Truly a New York favorite!
Be the first to ReplyWorst welcoming/coat check experience ever
Food and dining room service was great but what a terrible check in/welcome team. Both the coat check and reservations desk were making you feel like you come to Tao or any cheap restaurant. No smile and no high standard. I will not come back just because of that.

One of the finest steakhouses in Manhattan and certainly the best we have experienced. Fantastic well sourced , cooked and presented food was backed up by a mega wine list and exceptional service. Not cheap but for a special night out totally recommended.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food, But Not Michelin Star
The food is excellent, though not worthy of a Michelin Star. Attentive and very professional service. Quiet. Spacious. Unhurried. Lovely rest rooms. Accommodating to special food needs. Best suited for expense account people who value the service, space and quiet. Not Cheap.

I am sorry but I am on the fence on this one. Many reviews here say it is expensive but I would say at $1000 for four the price to quality, service, ambience, cuisine, cocktails ratio doesnt work. Clearly everyone here is on expense account so maybe they don't care much but it is a factor. I mean if you are going to pay French Laundry prices they have to work much harder to deliver. Yes there is glitz and history in the setting but extraordinary I am sorry Torrisi Brothers it just doesn't make it. The steaks are great and the chicken delicious but there are about 500 other spots in NYC that deliver as good at a fraction of the price. Don't get me wrong. The food is great but innovative and creative and surprising and fun are missing....

The grill is a place you go to when you want to be pampered and enjoy wonderful food. Each dish was something exciting and different. You must try the press pasta, the sushi the ward winning steaks and the fun dessert. Keep your head on a swivel because you will see very famous people. The interior is elegant and the way the air make the curtain move will make you feel like you are sitting at an outdoor space in Venice. If you just want an evening drink you will find plenty of company and a bartender that can make anything you want.

Everything about this restaurant is A+ from the food, to the service, to the ambiance. We enjoyed a wonderful meal while being able to have a conversation and not be rushed. Love the location of the restaurant and I was very pleasantly surprised. Hope to be back again soon.

Dinner on a Thursday evening. Nose level was so high that my party, and the party next to us, resorted to shouting to be heard by those across from them. At The Grill's prices this is unacceptable and could be cured by having fewer tables. Food is good, but for the price there are equally good steakhouses in NYC where you can actually have a pleasant conversation during dinner. And $195 for "market price" lamb chops? Spare me. If you are going simply to worship at a Philip Johnson architectural shrine, try lunch, where our waiter said the noise level was more humane.

Overall we had a fine time at The Grill. The space is absolutely gorgeous, and the tables are large and private which for me is the best aspect of all about eating here, it costs a premium but it's worth it. We started with a cocktail at the bar. I can't say our bartender was great since he barely paid any attention to our order, but the Martini was fine. Should be for $25. When we moved to our table, we were so pleased to see that we had a semicircular booth dead center - great people watching! We started with the omelette made tableside, and I was surprised that they did a "country style" and not a "French style" omelette. It was good but I much prefer French omelettes so wouldn't order again. Then came the steak tartare, and it was one of the best we've had in many years. Served with ultra-crisp lettuce leaves, I must say I preferred it to my usual baguette because it was lighter and let the flavor of the meat really shine. We loved it. Then on to the prime rib - of course it was excellent, but it's a lot of meat. Half of mine came home. Sides were whipped potatoes and the best mushrooms with a brandy-cream sauce I've ever eaten, they were fantastic! How could they have been out of baked Alaska? But they were, so we settled for a slice of lemon chiffon cake. It was very delicious but, ultimately, it was a slice of very very good cake. Next time I'll put the order in for the Baked Alaska at the start of our meal. Service was competent, unfussy, and friendly. The space, again, is gorgeous. The food was very good indeed. Including a $65 bottle of wine, the total was nearly $600. That's a lot of money, but I don't have any regrets at all. It was a truly New York luxury experience, one to be enjoyed for special occasions, as this one was. Can't wait to go back and try other delicacies at this gorgeous place!
Be the first to ReplyGood food, limited menu, great service, very pricey, very noisy from the bar.
I once visited the Four Season in the Pool Room a long time ago. I wanted to go back to experience it again. Unfortunately the Pool Room is closed except to groups. The rest of us have to go to the Grill which is built around a bar. The noise level here was very loud for a. high end restaurant. The service was great, quick and attentive. The menus was limited. Our food--duck and prime rib was excellent. Salads were mediocre and expensive. I guess I'm glad I went, but the cost was high. For what we received, it wasn't worth the money. I won't be going back.
Be the first to ReplyMostly very good / sans the waiter
I made the reservations sort of last minute and was pleased to find a table at the time that worked for us. I had forgotten that this was the old Four Seasons. In waking distance from the Lotte, we were there in 5 minutes. Generally, we found the experience very good. Our waiter was kind of a putz but the sommelier ~ from Worcester, MA ~ made up for him and then some. She was very personable and a great asset to the Restaurant. The food was very good except my wife ordered the salmon and there was no mention of the dill ~ which she hates. My filet was a little over peppered. The Baked Alaska dessert was great ~ truly exceptional.. Dinner for 2 was $800 and we basically got what we paid for ~ sans the stuffy waiter.
Be the first to ReplyOUR BEST DINING EXPERIENCE !! BAKED ALASKA ANYONE?
It was our last night in Manhattan during our visit in March 2022. We always try to dine at a restaurant that we "think" will be the highlight of our time there. In addition, we try to take in a broadway play on our last night. Usually, we select something close to our theater. That's how we arrived at The Grill. We've never been there before. We've visited New York City many times over the years and have dined at many restaurants. So, we have some perspective on this subject. The Grill exceeded our expectations in every way. Arrival: You enter from the street level and find yourself in an expansive lower lobby with greeters at their stations. They checked us in promptly (of course we had advance reservations) and made us feel right at home. When our table was ready, one greeter escorted us to our table facing the dining area on the second floor. Very soon after our server, Ben, arrived and presented us with menus and explained in detail the menu items we were interested in. We decided first on two glasses of superb Schramsberg sparkling wine from Napa, CA. We love Schramsberg and take every opportunity to order it when on a menu. We also started with a great bread presentation. We thought Il Mulino Prime was great, but this was equally if not better (especially the garlic butter). My wife ordered as an appetizer the Scallop in Puff Pastry w/ snails. She's not a snail fan, but loved the scallop. I had the Cream of Pumpkin soup, perhaps the best I've ever had. For mains, we ordered the Grilled Salmon w/ melted leeks and Grilled Chicken with spiced apples. Both were superb! Truly! Also, we had a side of grilled broccoli. It was our last night, and a special date, so we ordered their Baked Alaska. Now, when was the last time you saw Baked Alaska on a menu? Not only that, it was perfectly made. On top of that, on the house they gave us a maple glazed doughnut to share and 2 engraved chocolates. Wow!! It was a perfect dining experience for us on our last night. Afterwards, we simply waddled over to see "The Music Man" on broadway with Hugh Jackman. This dinner came to over $300.00 but it was worth every dollar.
Be the first to Replymedium experience depending on the cost…
the food was delicious, they were prepared with gluten free food, they also had gluten free bread which was really good. the problem was the service…we waited 1 hour for sitting also if we booked the table, at least they gift us with a free dessert and champagne. but waiting 1 hour is still crazy…
Be the first to ReplyGreat steaks, desserts, and service; chopped salad needs works
My mother’s final birthday dinner request was steak — so we had our last dinner at The Grill NYC. Service was excellent. The steaks and fish and desserts were wonderful. It’s hard to impress me with filet, but my mother’s was sublime. My prime rib was very good, but the filet was better. The chopped salad, not so much. Very disappointing. I wasn’t as blown away by the cavernous room as everyone else seems to be. But I would go back.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food & service!
You can't go wrong with this restaurant (if you eat meat). Rarely eaten such well prepared meat and the service is excellent. Pricey but worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyStunning food experience in Midtown with disappointing service
Major Food Group’s “The Grill” is one-of-a-kind. They do a phenomenal job to keep up with the history of the Four Seasons. Quick summary of my most recent experience:
The food is way above NYC average. To me The Grill serves the best steaks and other meats, such as ducklings, in the city. They are cooked to perfection, presented as one would expect. Prices are high, such as $90 for 20 oz. NY Strip Steak. Specialty meats, such as a Wagyu Ribeye, come in for $400 for some 40 oz.; side sides average at $17 ea and started around $30. The desserts were fine with a $15 Baked Alaska as the “star”. But for having a famous pastry chef on board, there was nothing special about the desserts/ pastries at all. Nothing.
At our visit, the staff did not meet what one would expect. Your main server is a “Captain”. Unfortunately, our captain Jason didn’t introduce himself with his name and was nothing more special than a server at Ruth’s Chris. The sommelier, who was supposed to support us with our wine selection from the gigantic list of fine wines, was unfortunately either not willing or capable of finding good accompanying wines for our three courses. Not to forget that our white wine glasses were more or less constantly filled-up. A place like The Grill should know that, unlike red wine, white wine is only poured into an empty glass because of the different temperatures of glass and bottle. Not to forget that the cork from the bottle was not presented at the table.
There’s plenty of other staff present as well doing a good job in providing fast and synchronous table service. Bringing salt and pepper grinders still took 5 minutes and two reminders. The supervisor of the restaurant service, or whatever his position title might be, was busy entertaining a table of models throughout the evening instead of monitoring his staff - at least in our opinion.
The noise level good with lovely 1950s music that was put together so well, one could think is was played live. At exactly 10pm the lights were dimmed and the music changed to much much louder lounge beats, which was both surprising and annoying.
Out final observation is about the bathrooms. There are only two for The Grill and neighboring The Pool. Two. It took forever to find a free bathroom since a black tie event in a private dining room had a very fun night with lots of their guests occupying these facilities for what felt like forever.
Overall it was a great evening, but we encountered a few unacceptable items in service that should not happen at a restaurant at this price level and own ambition.
Perfection
Definitely an expensive meal but I have to be honest, It was totally worth it. Service was impeccable food was divine. It is really one of a kind experience. I was very inspired by this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Ambience & Service, Good (not even very good) Steaks
This is a high class, beautiful place, great bar, superb service, superb decor and architecture. Alas, the steaks are not at this level.
Prices match the Ambiance & Decor - a dinner at the Grill is over 200$/person.
The steaks at a place called "The Grill" and looking like this should be superb, they were average, good but average.
Great Food and Ambiance.
Great Food and Ambiance. Chateaubriand cooked on the bone was fabulous. So were the crab cakes and the sides. Expensive but excellent. Wine list goes on for several hundred pages.

Ok my New Yorker brother wanted to have his 60 th bday here I think he was happy. Me not so much. Everyone who pre ordered the prime rib liked it I ordered a filet You had a choice it could come 3 ways. I picked Florentine. When I got back from the restroom there was a spinach salad at my spot. I said who ordered a spinach salad Ok it looked liked someone threw gobs of fresh spinach on my plate. I had to literally quote “find my steak “ under a mound of raw spinach. Whatever. Steak was over seasoned and dry. Worst steak and presentation I ever had. The sides were terrible and the atmosphere pure chaos New York. Loud loud busy busy. Not a charming place. No one could hear each other. But I will commend the staff Well trained and polite Good service I would avoid it on my food and atmosphere experience But hey I am not a New Yorker and like fine food and fine dining at the same time This was neither

Easily the best meal I have ever had. Service was incredible, food was varied and very tasty. Prime rib was exquisite (and huge). Wine list was amazing. Would absolutely recommend and come back here. Thank you!

Loved this restaurant. We had Thanksgiving dinner with a friend and everything was delicious. We loved the decor and ambiance... Almost like a throwback to the rat-pack days. I was waiting for Frank Sinatra and Marylin Monroe to walk through the doors. It has a great old world vibe and the music backs it up. The food was exceptional as well...from the appetizers to the soup to the main dish and of course desserts. Highly recommended...

Well if I could eat there everyday night I would.
Everything was perfection.
• The cocktails at the bar
• The bread basket ... omg that bread basket ... different kind of bread, the pretzel one was the bomb, the butter was perfect and salty ... I could just eat the bread here.
• crab cakes
• crab pasta
• pepper steak was melting in my mouth
• the bread ;)
• the service
• the wine
• the setting is so typical of NYC and old school
Just go go go go go there !
