Lobster? In SoCal? Yes!
Stopped by here a few weeks ago after dinner, didn’t know it existed. Women inside offered us some “half and half”, half lobster bisque, half clam chowder. Had never heard of such a thing but it was great and we promised to return for dinner soon. Last night was the night, and we brought four friends along. Each couple shared the Trio for Two. For $67 you get a lobster roll, a crab roll, and a shrimp roll, plus four sides (Cape Cod chips, Cole slaw, baked beans, beverage). Separately this would run about $80, so a good deal. And they cut the rolls in half for your convenience. Real New England “Top sliced” hotdog bun, buttered and grilled. Lots of meat, especially in the crab roll. Lots of meat in all the rolls, and very tasty, especially the crab roll. You can sit at small tables on their sidewalk or larger tables at the American restaurant next door and order adult beverages. Great food, great find in Old Town.

Absolutely Delicious! The Lobster roll had Tons of lobster on it and the Bisque was amazing!! Had a work event today and ordered 12 sandwich combos and a bunch of soups. Our order was ready on time and everyone loved it!!! We will be back! Way to Go Lobster Shack!!!!
Be the first to ReplySoups great but lobster roll disappointing.
The lady was friendly and offered us a sample of the clam chowder which was quite tasty. Authentic New England flavor. Likewise, the Lobster Bisque was quite good with discernible sized pieces of lobster meat. But the lobster roll was a notch below and for the price, was quite disappointing. The brioche hot-dog roll that held the meat was excellent, but there wasn’t enough lobster and the whole effect was bland and offered very little lobster satisfaction. I’ll cop to bring a snob about lobster as I’m from New England, but my California-born pal didn’t think much of it either. The nice lady said we could get a drink at the Mexican restaurant so we sipped on excellent Margueritas from there while we had our Lobster Shack meal. That would all have been great if the lobster roll had been better.

Quick stop in Little Italy to eat lobster rolls that some people raved about. The lobster was fresh and the roll was not too heavy and it held a lot of lobster. Overall very good.

Have been waiting to visit Lobster 🦞 Shack for years, I live in Colorado. It didn’t disappoint!!! We started out with the crab roll, and ordered lobster 🦞 bisque and clam chowder! I have never enjoyed a meal more!!! Every bite was delicious and I was sighing through it all!!
I can’t wait to revisit on my next trip to South OC! 🥰. Great food Kim & Dan! 🙌🏻
Impressive Roll
Yeah I like their 🦞 lobster roll very much. Nice little catch running into this place. It's located in sort of an old town square area dominated by some interesting little ethnic and local restaurants. I didn't see any tables at the here, so I think everything is to go. Came with a soda and a blue cheese coleslaw side which was pretty good too. I just spent about 3 weeks in February traveling up the Maine coast pounding on average two lobster rolls a day. I can honestly say that the one that I got here rates just as good or even better than the ones I got there (well maybe one or two in Maine stand out). The lobster here was very tender so I think it was fresh. You would think most lobster on the West Coast would be frozen, so I'm not sure. They were small pieces but real fresh and tasty. I think the bread they use here is pretty awesome as well. It's kind of looks like a well-toasted thick piece of white bread sort of split in half. It held a good amount of lobster. They use an aioli that isn't mayonnaisey or oily at all. It didn't mask the flavor of the lobster; I think it kind of brought it out. All in all, a very well thought out and crafted lobster roll. Somebody here knows what they're doing. By the way for under 20 bucks, this is an amazing bargain. Believe me, I slam lobster rolls all the time.

Fast food type atmosphere. Few tables set up outside. $44 for lunch for 2 people. Food was fine but just a lot of money. Owner came to say hello...we feel bad for him and wish him the best of luck.

Great food and such lovely staff! Brady introduced me to the owner Dan while he was preparing my order and they couldn’t have been more warm and welcoming!
I ordered a lobster roll and crab roll to share and compare, as well as a cup of lobster bisque. The bisque was fabulous and even had huge chunks of lobster in it wow! While both rolls were fantastic, I must say my fave was the lobster roll! So buttery and full of that soft, sweet lobster meat...how can you resist??
The rolls also come with sides so we had chips and beans. Seriously, this was enough to feed me 3 times!
It’s located in a cute, quirky little plaza with paved parking. The parking may be a bit limited so you may have to wait on a busy day and the spaces are a tiny bit narrow so just be aware. But it looked like there may also be some street parking, just be sure to check the signs!
Adventures in Sea Food Delights
I started by having the Flight of soups. The New England Clam Chowder was the best I have ever had. Creamy with fantastic taste and lots of clams. Next was the Lobster Bisque with loads of flavor and lobster. It also enhanced my lobster roll dunking it in it. Last was the Cioppino that had strong savory flavors along with a little bite to it. Fantastic for a rainy cold day. Next I had the crab cakes that almost melt in your mouth. Yummy. Then it was on to the Lobster Roll. A bun stuffed with Lobster was a complete delight to finish off my sea food adventure. The flavors abound and what I liked with it was to dunk it in the Lobster Bisque soup for enhanced flavoring. I love sea food and when and where I can I have it. I have to say that The Lobster Shack ranks at the top of my list for my sea food adventures and I will travel the 2 1/2 hours to have it again. The level of quality and flavor ranks way up there. The owners Dan and Kim were friendly and professional. If you try this place out tell them hi for me.

Lots of money for langoustines, not real lobster like you find in New England. Very nice people who own it, trying to carve out a business in an area of high rents.

If you are looking for a lobster roll that isn’t too heavy, you’ve found the right place. It tastes more fresh than buttery, but still delicious. The lobster bisque soup is also amazing! And wonderful service as well. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. She even split the lobster roll in half for us since we were sharing the meal. We enjoyed our meal to go and ate at the pier.
Be the first to ReplyLobster tastes fine but the servings are very small.
We visited The Lobster Shack after reading about it recently. It is in “Old Town”, a hidden grouping of restaurants and shops on Avenida Palizada. The restaurant is just a store front where you order at the counter. There are a few very small tables out front and communal picnic tables with umbrellas. We sat at the picnic tables which were very dirty. We cleaned them ourselves with Wet Ones I had in my purse. The meal for three, including tip, and no alcohol, was almost $70. My husband and son each ordered a lobster roll which comes with two sides, which are literally no larger than three tablespoons each. The lobster rolls looked very good but they are small as well. My lobster salad was also small. A little lobster lobster was served on mixed greens with cherry tomatoes and thinly sliced avocado with Russian dressing. A hard boiled egg would have helped. It was not filling. My 22 year old had to eat more food at home. I would like to see this business succeed but it needs a lot of improvement.

We have been excited to try this place and we very pleased with the meal. This truly is a small restaurant that specializes in lobster roll on a nice brioche roll. They mix the shellfish in a light butter aioli that has very little mayo which is how I prefer. We recommend the trio so you can sample a lobster, crab and shrimp roll with four sides for $42...Delicious and filling. We took it to go and enjoyed a picnic sunset dinner at the beach. They have a few tables on site if you prefer. Great addition to the restaurant scene in San Clemente.
