One of My Favorite Places - Though Food Not Quite as Good This Time Around
I've been coming to The Local Peasant for years. I've had birthday celebrations, dinners, and french-fry destination events here. I like the atmosphere, choices as a vegetarian, and always friendly service, and can say unequivocally that they have the best thick French Fries on any side of the Mississippi. We move a bit further away and hadn't been in a while...so I was excited to return...the atmosphere was there, but the food and drink this time around were not quite what I had remembered. I started with a watermelon cocktail. With the main ingredient being watermelon, and simple syrup included, I was surprised at how not-at-all sweet this was. I had to send it back to sweeten it up some. It came back sweeter, but the watermelon flavor was not as present as I would have wanted it. The french fries - and I mean the thick ones, served criss-cross on the plate like lincoln logs were on point, and reason enough to visit this place. The grilled cheese may have changed since the last time I had it. It was served on ciabatta bread so it didn't have the kind of satisfying "non-end piece" grilled bread situation you kind of want out of a grilled cheese. The cheese mix in it was pretty good though. My son ordered the Beyond Burger and (blasphemy) the thinner fries. The fries were good but he (a teenager who lives for greasy foods and sugar) kept complaining that the burger was too greasy. My wife assembled her own meal as the website menu didn't quite match what the actual menu was...She had salmon, bok choy, and fries (the good ones). The Bok Choy and of course the fries were great. She said she'd had better salmon here before. Perhaps slightly overcooked. Our server was fantastic. Super nice. Like he was from Canada nice. (though he wasn't from Canada.) He even brought me a chocolate chunk bread pudding with a candle in it for my birthday. We devoured that. I like it here a lot and think it may have just been a slightly off night for the food. (Possible also because I had planned on ordering the cheese board which was no longer on the menu.)

We tried Tthe Local Peasant for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. The service was good. The atmosphere was kind of rustic and fun. They had a good list of beers on draft. We liked the food too, it was very good. Their cocktail list was interesting as well.

My husband and I have always been able to find a seat at the expansive bar at Local Peasant. We stopped in for drinks and appetizers during happy hour recently. I remember being wowed by appetizers I've had in the past - in particular the crab cakes. This time I tried the ahi tostada. It was a fairly small appetizer, extremely salty, with minuscule amounts of avocado (maybe two pieces of 1/8 of an inch or less). My husband's sliders turned out to be mini sliders. He wasn't too impressed. The two large olives in his martini meant less gin in the glass. And my cocktail, while tasty, was served in a rather small glass. Maybe the appetizers would have been more generous on the regular menu, but my overall impression was that Local Peasant was skimping.

We love going to this local favorite. The homemade chips (crisps) are great and the pork bellies sensational. The meal portions though are a little small so we usually just go for drinks and appetizers and skip the meal.

I was meeting my friends to celebrate my birthday. We decided on the local peasant as it was close to my home.
I parked in the back and started to walk into the restaurant and a man stumbled out of the restaurant back door blowing his nose onto the ground. It was the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced. It probably got in my boots and In complete disbelief.
I entered the restaurant and told the hostess. She relayed the horrific story to the manager and the manager apologized . My main concern was that he wash his hands...
My friends arrived and we ordered brunch. You would have thought that the manager would have sent over a dessert or appetizer for the appalling behavior of their employee but nothing. Make sure employees wash their hands!
No Peasant Food Here
First time here for a birthday celebration with 13 family members.
Open restaurant with open windows to the busy Ventura Blvd. Wooden booths surrounding the perimeter inside, no padding on inside seats with a large bar area near the front middle of the restaurant and as expected, it is a loud noisy restaurant. Raised roof with exposed beams, no tablecloths but they do set ups with fabric napkins instead of paper napkins.(I like that!)
Salads well liked by repeat family member customers, and two of us ordered the Impossible Vegan burger which was the best I have had since the inside wasn't mushy and tasted more like a burger than other vegan burgers in the past 8 mos since becoming Vegan.
Their potato crisps (aka potato chips) come in a basket with a small spray bottles of vinegar and a small papercup side of a special aioli sauce for dipping.
Their onion rings although delicious left greasy fingers by all. Kids liked the regular Mac n Cheese and the four sliders option was also liked by another diner.
Waitresses were spot on, and bar tenders were friendly, available and with good recommendations for the menu, both for happy hour and dinner menu.
Younger crowd (20-35 yr olds) but on a Friday night between 6-8:30 there were few if any tables not yet filled. Music in background.
Waitress took credit cards of all who wanted separate checks and she kept track of which family members ordered what.
Better than average- more like a B grade in high school!
Wow. How could it be THIS bad???
Wednesday night. Ignored for 15 min.. Finally got the attention of a waitress. “Do you need something?” RUFKM?? Yeah we need you to do your job. 20 minutes later our food arrives. Waitress comes back in another 20 minutes to see if we wanted any more drinks. No, we just want to leave, thanks. How about a check? You guessed it... 20 minutes later. Luckily I had cash. We might still be waiting if she had to run a card... Total was $48.75. I left a $50 bill and we walked out. My wife thinks we should wait for the change just on principle. Nah, a 3% tip speaks louder than none at all. And I’m usually at 25%. Wow have they gone down hill. Food was ok, not great. Wife’s wine was very good.

This place is trying to be a like a pub I think. It has a good friendly atmosphere and if it were full, it would be very noisy. It’s got an extensive menu. I chose the chicken buttermilk sandwich which was great but a massive portion and I could only eat half. My dining companions all enjoyed their meals from salmon to burgers. Would definitely return.

We went for Brunch and the food was delicious! Service was great, portions are big! I got the Chicken Chilaquiles and they were delicious the tortilla chips were crispy, I love the pickle onions it gives it a tangy flavor. I wasn't feeling well and the server kept checking on us. overall great experience!
