delicious
Fantastic service, very attentive and professional. All of the food that we ordered was outstanding, very flavorful, beautifully presented. Atmosphere was nice, quiet enough to enjoy conversation. Prices are high, but worth it!
Be the first to ReplyGreat!!
This was a last minute visit when arriving in NYC after a long flight - it was my birthday so we wanted to go somewhere for good wine. This place did not disappoint and we were so glad we ended up finding it! The wine was great - the service was on point and faultless. Everyone was so knowledgeable and friendly. We had something small to eat in the bar area and that was really good! We would absolutely visit again but the dining room next time too!
Be the first to ReplyPretentious staff inedible and pricy food
Smelly inedible vomit inducing scallops. Tasteless tartare. $45 brunch for two courses. Obnoxious hostesses and manager. Lots of staff standing around with their pretentious noses in the air. Do not waste your money here.
Be the first to ReplySmall Portions
Dinner at The Modern Bar Room. Excellent service. Portion size underwhelming and you left hungry. Do not order scalopps for main course, so small. Had appetizer, entree and desert. Crowd dressed post Covid, very casual.
Be the first to ReplyA culinary work of art. Reserve in the bar room for a less pricy but amazing meal.
The bar room at the Modern is probably one of the best bargains in fine dining in the world. Small but lovely dining menu, inventive non alcoholic drinks if you don’t want to take advantage of their amazing wine list, and INCREDIBLE food. We had three seafood dishes plus dessert and each dish was a masterpiece.
Be the first to ReplyGood quality, nice place
I had tart flambée, duck breast and dessert. Everything was very good. the service was good. Not easy to use the bathroom.

What an experience , my husband and I had lunch at the chefs kitchen table yesterday ! The food was absolutely amazing , each course was introduced by a chef and tasted out of this world ! We were very well looked after ! Definitely a fantastic place to celebrate something special …..thank you all the team at The Modern who were extremely professional and friendly !!!
Be the first to ReplyUnimpressed.
The service was outstanding but the food only average. Temperature of the duck seemed a bit low and the flavor profiles just didn’t impress as I thought they would. Pear dessert was a good ending to the meal.
Be the first to ReplyThe Kitchen Table for my birthday.
The Kitchen Table is a can’t miss experience. We were front row to watch dinner service in a Michelin starred restaurant. The food was beautiful to look at and so incredibly delicious and the kitchen team were so sweet and kind introducing themselves, asking if we had questions. Chef Thomas Allen and Chef de Cuisine Sarah Hsieh stopped by and visited with us several times throughout the evening. Service was impeccable and the wine recommendation was perfect. Such a fun way to celebrate my birthday.
Be the first to ReplyLooking dated and average food
Not as good as expected. We had set menu with wine pairings. Firstly wine was excellent. No course was particularly memorable, except the welcome snack. Food is very expensive with a lot of flavours going on. My seat had a tear in the fabric. Nice to visit but unlikely to return
Be the first to ReplyMediocre!
Came here for a business lunch. Very crowded, hectic, the hostess was not nice, the portions were small, the food was just ok. I used to look this restaurant 5-6 years ago. But restaurants become popular and decline in quality.
Be the first to ReplyA delightful lunch at the Modern
Truly a one-of-a kind dining experience with an artistic flair. Very much a hidden gem nestled in the MoMA. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tête de cochon was exquisite, and so was the crispy salmon entrée. Will definitely be back again, and would love to try the Modern’s actual tasting menu.
Be the first to ReplyNo change in quality since BC
First time back since BC - prolonged closure didn’t seem to change the high quality of product. Gratuity now accepted.
Be the first to ReplySo bad experience (((
It’s a really bad experience (( Service is so pure and slow Not any special in a menu Please don’t spend a time with this restaurant Our table was dirty whole process of lunch They didn’t take out dirty plates I don’t have enough photo but just believe me
Be the first to ReplyBest meal in New York
There are two main dining options: a 5-course tasting menu at the Modern or an a-la-carte at the Bar Room at the Modern. We opted for the tasting menu, with wine pairings. This was the best meal we have had in New York! Starting with the amuse bouche, every dish was well-balanced and had interesting flavours and textures. We particularly enjoyed the hiramasa (fish) with peas, as well as the turbot, morels and spinach. Many of the dishes had some Japanese influence. We were very pleased to meet chef Justin who came out to tell us a bit about the dishes and the restaurant. He also invited us for a tour of the kitchen. Many thanks to all the staff, but particularly our server Fiona, who catered to all our needs.

The Bar Room at the Modern Such a sleek, modern, casually sophisticated vibe at this top notch restaurant. The service (from the hosts, to the bus personnel to the servers) is utterly polished, professional, cordial and so very accommodating. (Antu and Hope are STARS with their warm attentiveness.) The food is nicely plated, fragrant, appetizing and DELICIOUS. The grilled octopus with beans was incredibly yummy. The (gluten free) chicken breast was flawlessly prepared, crispy yet moist with delectable foie gras. The buckwheat salad and ravioli (vegetarian) were also devoured. Even the bread ( regular and gluten free) is freshly made, served warm and is mouthwateringly tasty. The cocktails, like the food, are creatively terrific ( the rhubarb and raspberry are our favorites). With wonderful cuisine, impeccable service and lovely ambiance, The Bar Room at The Modern is one of our favorite restaurants! The culinary expertise and creativity of the chef and mixologist, combined with the unsurpassed service, results in a memorable, rave-worthy experience. The Bar Room is a dining bucket list essential!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Luncheon At A Great Location!
Fantastic lunch at this rather lovely restaurant. Food was great, as was the atmosphere and service.
It felt rather bohemian walking into The Museum Of Modern Art to have lunch. We had the following:
(1) 'Egg On Egg On Egg', which was the introduction to this meal. It is quite hard to describe. Basically, egg three ways with a runny yolk. It was served with fried bread, which you could dunk in the concoction. It was yummy and had a little caviar sprinkled over the top;
(2) Lobster as the starter. It was a whole lobster tail, which was sweet and moist. Very delicious;
(3) The main course of beef was served with Morel mushrooms and smoked pomme puree. The beef was succulent and cooked to medium perfection; and
(4) For dessert we had both the Black Forest Cake with cherries and the Citrus Souffle with olive oil ice cream. The souffle had a mandarin sauce placed underneath. The souffle was cooked very well indeed.
$145 per person in Manhattan for a three-course meal was definitely in line with my VFM (value for money) ethos.
The atmosphere was busy but friendly. Our server, Jenna R., was polite, helpful and knowledgeable in relation to the menu.
Definitely recommend this place.
Fantastic restaurant!
Everything was absolutely incredible, as usual! We eat here every time we come to the city. You do need to book in advance and put a deposit down to be able to reserve a table. However, the do have a “bar side” of the restaurant that you have a good chance of getting into but that side doesn’t offer the tasting menu. With that, the tasting menu is amazing! You can also add a wine pairing with it which is very good! We also added the truffle dish with our pairing for an added cost and we were so happy we did! Basically the food, service, drinks, and atmosphere is incredible, our server was Steve and he was great! I would highly recommend coming here. It is a two Michelin star restaurant so obviously it will be expensive but so worth the money! Online they do have a formal dress code, so keep that in mind as well.

Really enjoyed dinner here. The service was impeccable/faultless and friendly/welcoming. Was going to give 4 stars though as we had lunch at Peak and thought that was a more special experience. However, upon reflection that wouldn’t be fair: food was extremely good with great wine and outstanding service. Would choose Peak if forced to pick between.
Be the first to ReplyI could have stayed all night
We arrived just before sunset and the change of mood in the room was fabulous. The Bar Room had the most lovely buzz and atmosphere. There are tables, booths, low seating and counter stools.
We only stayed for a couple of drinks but could have stayed all night.
British Chris must be the most attentive man in MOMA. Maybe even the whole of New York! He's a credit to The Bar Room.
Great bar area
Went to The Bar Room for a drinks and sat at the bar. Vesper was absolutely delicious. Fun bartender and beautiful bar. Great for people watching. Bar area is first come first served, gets busy fast.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous!!!
Entering from the busy street, the ambiance changes one’s mood immediately. Calm, lovely setting with windows that face the MOMA garden, this restaurant is a delight to all the senses. We came for restaurant week as the menu was eclectic and exciting. We were not disappointed. Amazing service, from filling the glasses with water at appropriate times, to setting the courses at the perfect moment, our server was on the mark. Caitlyn was well versed in the menu, preparation and ingredients. Her knowledge led us to fabulous selections for appetizer and entrees. Our favorites were the flatbread, steak tartare and chicken. Cocktails were perfect as was the coffee. We will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyHighly deserving of two Michelin stars
This meal was the highlight of our honeymoon which included stays in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and New York. We had the tasting menu accompanied by the wine pairings. Marcela, the sommelier, was excellent. The food was exciting and accomplished. A sublime lobster salad was absolutely out of this world. The staff are professional and attentive without being obsequious. Highly recommended.

The Bar Room at The Modern
We spent a three day weekend celebrating my daughter’s birthday, and had lunch at The Bar Room. The ultra chic, clean, upscale (yes, “modern”) atmosphere is also warm and very comfortable. The waitstaff is utterly polished, professional, accommodating, attentive and kind. The cocktails are expertly crafted, not sweet and quite delicious. (The Grand Opening was a great cocktail choice). While everything we ordered was devoured, the tuna with citrus and peanuts and octopus with coco beans were utterly fantastic! The combination of flavors was scrumptiously outrageous. The culinary expertise and creativity of the chef and mixologist, combined with the unsurpassed service, results in a memorable, rave- worthy experience. Although more casual than The Modern and other very highly rated restaurants, The Bar Room was one of the best dining experiences we have EVER had. The Bar Room is a dining bucket list essential!
