Excellent experience! It was my first time NYC, and I decided to celebrate with a Michelin-starred restaurant. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. The duck, oyster and sweetbreads were simply exceptional. The service was excellent and on par with what is expected at a starred restaurant. Everything was basically perfect. I can't comment too much on the ambiance, as we were sitting outside. But I can tell that the menu really had a cohesive structure and displayed all the creativeness and flavor combinations that you would expect at that level.

Really overpriced, don't understand all the positive reviews. Food had zero point of view, meal felt disjointed and bland. Two dishes, the caviar supplement (how can you screw up good ingredients) and the quail, we're excellent. The rest was forgettable and I'd soon want to forget how much money ($500+ for 2 ppl) we spent here. There are so many fantastic places in this price range and lower. Mediocre places like this only survive because of the insane games you have to play to get reservations in this city. Save your money and dine at places that get the "high/low" vibe right such as Pasquale Jones, Charlie Bird, etc. The $10 street cart quesadilla my wife got on the way home was better than anything we ate here.
Be the first to ReplyThis was an intimate venue for a quiet celebration.
We both had the six course omnivore tasting menu with an add-on jamon course and a flight of sake instead of the wine pairings. They artfully accommodated my lactose intolerance and presented an extra dessert marking the occasion. Service was adequately attentive and the sommelier introduced us to some tasty sake that worked well with our courses. My favorite course was the pekin Long Island duck (not to be mistaken for Peking Duck) followed by the quail. I initially found it interesting that they had two fowl courses but it worked somehow. Maybe it was because the duck was the main course and was more of a red meat course. Just as with the two fish courses, the tuna kumquat and lobster sunchoke differed, so did the quail and duck. My dairy free dessert was refreshing and I particularly enjoyed the coconut sorbet. Even the diplomat and dulcey were light and not overly sweet. Wish I paid more attention to the birthday dessert because its presentation was thoughtful and executed with perfect punctuation! All the courses were delivered with purposeful intention but it left the big birthday boy a little unfulfilled quantity-wise. The tasting menu is a thing of beauty and hit all our senses but we shamelessly had gelati afterwards!

Very underrated restaurant that's very deserving of its Michelin star. Food was amazing; every course was a hit! Service was very attentive and the waiters were very professional. Ambiance is very casual which didn't really match the level of service and quality of food. Great for people looking for a casual vibe while dining with superb food and service though. Overall, I would recommend this spot to everyone.

Musket room has been one of our favorite restaurants for awhile. On our recent visit it was the first time trying the tasting menu. At $125 per person it is one of the more affordable Michelin star dining tastings in the city. It was easy to walk in and sit at the bar. The restaurant is warm and cozy with EXCELLENT and friendly service. If your looking to sit at a table it's best to make a reservation. The omnivore tasting menu consisted of 7 dishes;Kristal Caviar - very good single bite to start the meal.Housemade Sourdough With Anchovy Butter - Musket Rooms sourdough is phenomenal. I didn't think I would like the anchovy butter, but it works.Tuna With Kimquat, Scarlet Queen Turnip & Yuzu - I'd say this was my least favorite dish of the menu. It was still good, but did not stand out like some of the other courses.Lobster With Sunchoke & Chamomile - very good.Quail With Pomegranate, Pine Nut, & Romanesco - awesome, the quail had a nice char to it, was tender, and delicious. I really enjoyed the pairing of pomegranate with the quail.Pekin Duck With Hakurei Turnip, Morello Cherry, Sumac & Labne - I absolutely loved this duck. The duck itself was cooked perfect, tender, and packed a nice flavor without feeling gamey. The morello cherry sauce that sits at the bottom of the duck adds a bit of sweetness to the dish, it's got a cherry licorice taste and works great with the duck.Supplemental DishJamon Iberico With Smoked Mussels, Confit Potato, & Mussel Aioli - this is a supplemental add on and absolute must get. I never would think of joining iberico pork and smoked mussels, then again I'm not a chef. Excellent. You can't go wrong with either the tasting menu or a la carte options. On a side note during the pandemic they had one of the best pop ups with the MR All-day truck serving various pastries and sandwich's including an amazing pork katsu. Bring this back please.

The quality of the food was certainly very good, but the portion sizes were ridiculously small given the exorbitant price of the tasting menu. We had to grab a slice of pizza nearby after we left. However, the restaurant itself was beautiful, the ambience was great, and the service was excellent. I do think there are much better prix fixe Michelin-starred restaurants in the area, but I'd argue that it's at least worth a try.

We loved this restaurant! Great neighborhood feel for a local bar & restaurant, but the food & wine are exceptional. One of those treasures you almost hate to rate because they will become discovered & even harder to get a reservation. We went because of the NYT recommendation, so the cat is already out of the bag. We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. Worked like a charm for a pescatarian & a Celiac diner. The carrot soup was unbelievably good.

My husband and I were visiting NYC from DC and we're so excited to have a nice dinner. We did the prefixe menu and it did not let us down!! The drinks were amazing and our service was top notch. I'm sure we will be back on our next trip!
Be the first to ReplyI found this place to be a bit overrated.
The atmosphere was lovely and our waiter was helpful and enthusiastic. However, my friend was pregnant and made notes in the reservation and told the waiter about food restrictions but they brought her out several dishes she couldn't eat. She could have been more thorough with them about details of restrictions but with this level of quality of a restaurant, we would have hoped that they would be more attentive. To be fair, they were good about bribing replacements once food she could not eat arrived. The food itself was creative and interesting. I enjoyed the taster at the beginning and the dessert had great texture combination. All the courses were enjoyable but there were no standout dishes and none that I would want to experience again. I was deciding between 3 and 4 stars as it was overall still a nice dining experience with quality food but didn't feel like it was worth the price of the tasting menu.

This is the most unpretentious Michelin star restaurant I have ever been in. First off I will say that this is not a romantic type of restaurant. It is quite noisy but extremely inviting. It's almost like a neighborhood bar and restaurant that you would meet your friends at every weekend. The staff is exceptional and the food is unique and tasty. I absolutely love this restaurant and will definitely be back when in NYC.

I have a reservation at 5PM, but it didn't open until 5:04PM or so, and we have to wait in cold till they open and decorate the outdoor flower a little bit. I guess you'd better arrive a little bit late if your reservation is at 5PMWe ordered the $125 tasting menu plus the supplement "Jamón Ibérico with Smoked Mussels". The food in general is fine, but too salty for two of us - we drank a lot of water and still had a dry mouth on the way home. The waiter forgot to bring us the coffee and tea, just brought us the check instead. So you may want to pay attention on this in the future.

The place has a Michelin star, so not sure how I could give it anything less than 5 stars. Whether the restaurant has 1, 2 or 3 Michelin stars, you can always expect to be impressed and this place is no exception. I got the omnivore tasting menu and with every dish was amazed with how much flavor they were able to pack into a bite-sized portion. Though portions are small with the tasting menu, there are 7 dishes so I left the meal feeling perfectly satiated. I'm in agreement with Michelin that this place is "worth a stop".

My girlfriend had the whole chicken, juicy, aromatic, tender, just great. My salmon was good, deserts were good. Expected fireworks from a Michelin Star restaurant but nevertheless a decent experience. Service could be much better but then again it is in New York
Be the first to ReplyWe celebrated our 5th anniversary here.
What an experience! I'd never had sweetbreads and wow, what an introduction. Service was incredible as well. Great playlist too.

I came here per recommendation from a friend who highly recommended their wine pairing with the pre-fixe menu. We thought that the dinner prix fixe might be too much food for us along with the wine, so we opted to come for lunch (reservations are also much easier to get during this time) for their pre-fixe ($55). The wine pairing option is not on the menu, but is available for $45. Also, the dress code indeed can be casual - I came in shorts and that was just fine.Overall, I thought that the wine pairing was just fine, but it may have been because the waiter was trying to pair the wine to both options on each course of the menu. The food itself was very good, and it had been a long while when I fully appreciated both the creativeness and taste of a fancier restaurant. With the price, I thought it was very much worth it and I would come back.1st course: Chicory salad was good, and I appreciated the muscat grapes the most. It didn't blow me away though, and I would recommend the gazpacho over this. I'm not a huge fan of gazpacho, but this was nutty and refreshing at the same time, and went very well with the almonds.2nd course: Both dishes were excellent. The panisse is chickpea flour 'pastry' that is served in a rectangular style here - it comes molten hot, which I appreciated and the maitake mushrooms had a heavy taste profile here. The duck confit was tender even though it was shredded and the broth itself was enriched in duck flavoring as well. The wine pairing worked the best here to complement the richness of this dish.3rd course: The panna cotta with the spring pea 'dippin dots' was probably the only dish that skewed a bit to the 'too fancy for its good', but it was still tasty. The malted ice cream float was much better though - unique but still nostalgic and comforting. It had more chocolate ganache than I expected - both desserts looked completely different from what we expected.

Unacceptable behavior from management regarding a canceled reservation. I made a reservation well in advance, and then, due to travel problems (it's still the COVID era), I called and messaged them to push the time back by an hour and a half. Nobody answers their phone, and there's no voice greeting and "the mailbox hasn't been set up." What's more, nobody returns messages promptly. After twenty-four hours, I finally received a response informing me that I was being charged a $200 no-show fee. That morning, I'd canceled the reservation after waiting a day to hear back from them. What's more, I was told the fee would be refunded after contacting them and going back and forth. It took contacting Resy directly to finally get the refund issued because none had been put through. In the end, I'm thankful that we ended up at Meadowsweet because the management at Musketroom is alienating customers. This is not the establishment I dined at a few years ago.

The tasting menu is only $99 which is not super expansive for a Michelin stared restaurant, but the quality is not what I expected. The uni was not really fresh. The supplement Mussel dish came with Iberico which I found to be very extra. Dessert was pretty good but overall nothing was impressive enough. They also improve their services because they did not take away our dirty plate even when the next dish came. Even though all dishes were not super complicated, we still waited a long time for our food which ended up being a 2 hours dinner. I never tried their other dishes but I wouldn't recommend having their tasting menu.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the nicest prix fixe meals I've had in a while.
I walked in on a night when they were slammed with a private event in the back; the maitre d' told me to come back in an hour and sat me at the bar. I was incredibly impressed with how thoughtful and beautiful the food and service was, especially on a challenging night. Another nice thing is that it felt fancy but not at all stuffy.

I went to the Musket Room to celebrate graduation with a friend, and it was absolutely stunning. It is a Michelin star restaurant that really does give the friendly neighborhood vibe energy. The ambiance was intimate and comforting, making the experience all the better (rather than a high-end formal orchestra vibe). I opted to have the Omnivore tasting menu, which took my palate on an experience all throughout New Zealand. What I loved about this experience is that they knew how to play with your palate, putting together salty and sweet, flavors that you wouldn't expect to be paired together, all tying in a harmonious (though a little more on the sweeter side) meal that brought me on a comforting journey. We opted to start with the Kristal Caviar Service which came with Japanese Milk Bread. As someone who has never had caviar, I could understand why it is regarded as high-end. The presentation was stunning as if I had won the lottery. The creme fraiche of the caviar created a sweetness to the dish, where you could taste the lemon come through while complimenting the milk bread which was light, buttery, and rich. The Kristal Caviar first course was what I wanted in an amuse-bouche. One bite, burst of flavor, and still delicate. The flavor profile was similar to the milk bread course, however, there was a slight contrast to it, as the amuse bouche was less sweet, and you could taste moreso the saltiness of the caviar. The house-made sourdough bread with anchovy butter, I don't know, but it was my favorite course. I never thought anchovy and butter could go together, but they made it work, where the butter didn't feel fishy, was instead meaty, and gave a complex taste to the butter, all whilst not compromising the lightness and richness of it. Additionally, for the bread, I love when you can hear a crunch on that outer crust of it. While the outside had a nice crunch, the inside was warm and soft. If I had ended my course with the beef tartare, I would've been content. If my flesh tasted as good as this cow, I'd give myself to this restaurant. This dish punches you with flavor, as the oyster permeates through, yet, it doesn't overpower the dish. This dish is complex, yet simple in a way. The flavor is well developed throughout, the peppercorn adds a nice little pop to the dish, and the crunchy tapioca chip makes the texture of the dish all the better. The spring pea dish with king crab and uni was I think an outlier of this meal. It is a bold dish that is unique, but it did not come together and was less harmonious to me. The green whip is a bit salty and while the crab and uni flavors come through, the pea overpowers the dish a bit and distracts from the overall taste. While the mint does improve the taste, this dish is definitely too complex for the palate because of all the flavors. I think if the mint was with the uni or the mint was with the crab, this dish could've been better for me. However, it is a light palate cleanser before you hit the main parts of the meal. With the veal sweetbread, I actually had no clue to expect (I didn't even know what that was before coming here). This dish is a bit complex but it works. The hazelnut is one of the main stars of the dish, as it makes this meat dish more on the sweeter side. The nuttiness and sweetness of it surprisingly compliment the veal and really drives home a rustic element to this dish. I felt like this was a journey between the savoriness of the meat, which was cooked to perfection, and the sweetness of the hazelnut. The muscat grapes on top, also add a layer of complexity to this dish. The lamb with rhubarb was a dish that I was excited for, and it was good, though nothing really spoke to me. The jus is light and meaty, and the citrus of the dish really elevates the lamb itself. However, the lamb itself does not have much seasoning by itself and should be eaten with ginger on it to give it some much-needed flavor. The lentils though, I am not a huge fan of lentils, but they delivered on the flavor. It is simple but too simple. The mascarpone cheesecake was a new take on cheesecake, and I was not too sure how I felt about it. It isn't a strong cheesecake flavor, and it honestly fell a little flat for me. The berries on top and strawberry consume in the middle really were needed to elevate the flavor of it. The cheesecake by itself was flat, though the toppings on it complimented it well. The sorbet on top also was absolutely the star of the dish and I wish I had had a bowl of that instead. I wish the dish was more cohesive though. Musket Room was ultimately a great experience that took my palate on a sweet journey throughout New Zealand. I feel like I was able to have an intimate experience with most of the dishes and I am ultimately satisfied with my whole experience. I definitely will be recommending.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Mother's day lunch with the three of us.
Staff was kind and fairly attentive. Menu was Japanese inspired three course pre-fix.(not exact on menu names) We had Hamachi tartar, Chicory Salad, Uni and Green Pea Risotto, Duck Confit, Panisse (potato pancake), then ended with dessert of Ice cream float and Panna Cotta. Added some champagne and caviar as well.Food was overall great, wasn't too saucy or salty, but the dessert was the surprised as it was a deconstruction of the ice cream float and panna cotta which was enjoyable to see but also eat. Only setback is that for the price of individual pieces the amount was on the smaller side. Can't tell if all the prices were expensive or just impacted by supply chain these days. I would recommend for anyone who wants a slow and easy brunch on a lazy day.

The reserve wine paring was on point. The staff was amazing and super knowledgeable. This was such a fun experience - we will definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyWe were a bit disappointed with the service at The Musket
We were a bit disappointed with the service at The Musket Room. I came across this place after seeing incredible pictures online, so my boyfriend and I decided to go for my 30th birthday. On the weekends you can only do the tasting menu, which we knew, and also knew we wanted to do the caviar and jamon add on. We told our waiter this and he started off by saying "let's start you off with some champagne to celebrate the birthday". We don't normally drink champagne but the way he said it made it seem like it was on the house on behalf of the birthday (no wine list was presented to show us the price or type either, the glasses of champagne were just brought over). We then didn't want to do the wine pairing for $110 pp, so we opted for a nicer bottle of Riesling that was $140, saving us a bit compared to if we did the extra pairing for $220 for both of us. When our check came at the end of the night, there was an extra $75 dollar charge for two glasses of champagne ($37ish each). That on top of the $140 bottle put us over what the wine pairing would have been which was really frustrating. It was late and after 3 hours of sitting through dinner (ending close to 12a) we decided to not make a big deal and just paid the bill, which ended up being close to $750 (including tip). The tasting menu is only $95 pp, and we knew it would be more expensive since we wanted the supplemental items. However the champagne really rubbed us the wrong way. Outside of that experience, the food was really delicious. They had an Ora King Salmon on the regular menu that the chef was kind enough to make for us after expressing how much I wanted to try it. If you check out The Musket Room I would recommend going during the week day so you can do a la carte, and definitely try the salmon. Overall, was not the best birthday dinner I've had, but would get the bread, caviar and salmon any day.
Be the first to ReplyGreat priced pre-fixe, Michelin star restaurant.
We did the omnivorous tasting menu but there is also a veggie friendly option. We sat out in the garden in the back, really cute setting + they let our dog come with us. The duck breast was amazing! Good food, cute presentation, great service.

The service and vibe were great, however we expected more of the food. The chicken was okay, nothing special. It verged on being slightly over cooked. The salad and bread courses were adequate, nothing special here either. This was my second visit here from when they first opened. No improvement.

Dinner and service was wonderful-- just as attentive as it needed to be. I did not have a lot of time to spare for dinner but my server John made fantastic, specific recommendations for both and wine (all well paired, presented, prepared) and still had me out the door on time to catch my production. Multiple team members seemed available to refill water, reset table, etc. Will happily revisit (when I haven't overbooked myself) for the tasting menu!
