Easy, Relaxing and Great Food
We had a very easy and pleasant experience with no wait and great service and excellent food. The atmosphere is old school and authentic. The location is convenient and easy - right off of the pedestrian portion of State Street.
Be the first to ReplyAll batter. No crawfish.
The waiter said one of the favorite appetizers was the Cajun Popcorn. Supposed to be fried, lightly seasoned crawfish tails in buttermilk batter. It looked just like the photo that in posted online. But it’s the equivalent of the “All hat, no cattle” cowboy. There’s precious little crawfish in there. About half of the fried “popcorns” were nothing but fried batter without any crawfish at all. So disappointed- left most of it on the plate.
Crawfish etoufee was equally disappointing. (By the way, etouffee has two “f”s in in, unlike the spelling on their menu). The roux was not much more than a melted stick of butter and the dish was flavorless. Maybe a couple of tablespoons of puny crawfish tails.
My dinner partner generally loves soft shell crab, but not this one. The batter was off and it was flavorless.
The beer, however, was good.
Great Dinner, Awesome Service, Huge Portions
I enjoyed the Best of the Bayou platter tonite at Palace Grill. Coconut shrimps, soft shell crabs, huge slice of salmon with crayfish on top and gumbo over rice. Wow what a presentation and amazingly flavorful dinner.
Platter includes your choice of bread pudding soufflé or dark choc. I chose the dark chocolate which is hot and you want to eat every morsel. Great service, as someone recently observed A treasure that hasn't changed. I couldn't have said it better,
Great dining experience in Santa Barbara
I have been traveling in California for a week and this was the best dining experience by far. The service was perfect. They met expectations (see attached pic). Even the manager checked on me as a solo diner twice. The pre-meal tiny muffins are addictive. The food was genuine N'awlins and delicious. Highly recommended.

Great Southern food here. Great service, and generous cocktails. The cute little muffins to start the meal, and the amazing bread pudding to end it, are not to be missed. We had the Cajun Popcorn, which was only so-so (probably not a repeat for us), and the Creole pasta, which was just amazing. Oysters and grilled redfish also were excellent. Great place for a fun dinner.

It's been at least 15 years since we last visited the Palace and I can't say how grateful we are that the menu and quality have not changed. The Cajun martinis are delectable as are those adorable mini muffins. My husband loved his pasta pontalba and I loved the soft shell crab special. The patio in the back is utterly charming during Covid. This is a can't miss place for any visitor.
Be the first to ReplyIt’s N’awlins In Santa Barbara
The Palace Grill. As I write my review, the day after Fat Tuesday, I can’t say enough about my favorite restaurant (one of two) in Santa Barbara. I’ve been dining at this Cajun Creole happy place for 20 years. And for the past 20 years, they’ve delivered every single time. No matter what the occasion is, smiles, beads, jazzy music, singing, cheers-ing, booze, food, happiness, is what you’ll experience. The staffs vibrant energy is intoxicating, just like their infamous cocktails, wanting more. Their food is absolutely delicious! I’ve had every item on their menu, zero complaints and leave feeling like an inebriated stuffed crawfish. Favorites? Can’t decide. Everything! The Palace Grill is very popular that our local news were onsite last night to film the traditional Fat Tuesday festivities. Reservations are recommended to cement an exciting evening. You must visit The Palace Grill. Trust Me. It’s Santa Barbara’s N’awlins on Cota Street.
Be the first to ReplyTeam Service approach, great cajun food
energetic, good food, great customer service. I look forward to dining here again soon. Miss the cajun martini's and cajun muffins!
Be the first to ReplyGreat place
The New Orleans music greeted us at the door, small and kinda tight, but the atmosphere was busy and festive, people were smiling and having conversations. Drinks we kinda small but the service was fast. Food portions were adequate even though I could have eaten more, my girlfriends salad was huge. Also they had a magician walking around entertaining the young children and some adults.
Bill was not too high for what we had....I will definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in town.
Always a nice touch of food and hospitality from back home.
Great food, nice hustle and bustle of a New Orleans restaurant. The food isn't 100% authentic - 90% ?? But to get the real Gulf of Mexico stuff their prices would have to double. That said, the food is very good and the atmosphere is fun and lively.
Be the first to ReplyNot quite Nawlan's but pretty close
I had the jambalaya ya ya, it was almost as good as what we used to eat in New Orleans when we lived there. Service was prompt, and patient as my wife is allergic to shell fish and had to as for a description of each dish she considered.
The price is appropriate for the quality of the meal and service. Packed with people when we arrived at 7:00 on a Sunday night, and consequently a bit noisy, but its Nawlan's so what do you expect.
My only regret is that red beans and rice are only available for lunch.
