Waiter wanted to throw down with guest!!
Most bizarre experience,EVER! Abbreviated version - horrible service, waiter never came around to clear plates, refill drinks, or just check in during the entire 90 minutes our party of 10 was dining. Started service by accusing us of lying about the age (12) of one of the minors, culminated with him trying to steal $500 from two of us paying cash and threatening to fist fight one of the guys in our party. Appeared to be impaired by drugs, alcohol, or something, can’t be sure but he seemed pretty out of it. BIZARRE!!! In the end, the manager ended up comping our meals. Not sure what happened to the waiter after two other employees physically removed him from our area. What a memorable 70th birthday celebration! Photos are table after we asked for someone to clear plates, before the huge ruckus.
Be the first to ReplyPass on the Palmetto Cafe
This was my second time here as I wanted to give it another chance. Unfortunately, I found this experience worse than the last.Service was good but the server delivering the entrees to our table had no idea who had ordered what. I ordered a lobster roll and, for a steep $42 price, it was tasteless. My husband ordered a turkey club sandwich which was also incredibly bland. With all the restaurants in this foodie town, we will not return here. I advise you to consider other options as well..this is not worth the expense!
Be the first to ReplyGreat breakfast!
We had a very nice breakfast here recently. My Eggs Benedict were very good and the yellow grits were great. My wife had the Blue Plate and really enjoyed hers. Only glitch was the chicken sausage. It just wasn't very tasty. A little pricy...
Be the first to ReplyLate seating but food and service was good.
Now, the Palmetto Cafe advertises that if you are late for your reserved time they will hold your table for fifteen minutes so we were early for our 1:00pm seating. However, they weren’t ready. We didn’t get seated until 1:40pm. I was getting concerned because we had to drive to the airport to catch a flight home. The restaurant was extremely busy. Once seated, our server was prompt and provided excellent service. The food we ordered from the menu was very good. They offer a buffet for $65.00 per person which we passed — too expensive and none of us could eat that much. The complaint that we had was that they had a live guitar player and female singer. The music was much too loud. I told the server that I could see her lips moving so I knew she was offering the specials but it was impossible to hear what she was saying. Background music should not be so loud that it drowns out table conversation. For that reason, we won’t return.
Be the first to ReplyGo for the weekend brunch stay for the amazing service
Went for the weekend brunch. It was everything that a week and brunch is supposed to be. And then a whole lot more because of the amazing staff. From the moment we walked into the moment we sat down. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience Save room for the desserts.
Be the first to ReplySemi-formal, great scrambled eggs, tiny fruit cup
This restaurant is in the Charleston Place hotel. It's a white tablecloth joint. Quiet when I was there on Saturday about 8:30. Semi-formal but friendly and competent service. Scrambled eggs were exceptionally good, and a generous serving. Unfortunately, the side of fruit was medium quality and small in size: served in a wee jam jar.
Be the first to ReplyAnother amazing experience a Charleston Place
Yet another amazing experience a Charleston Place. We decided to try Palmetto Café after having walked past it in the almost five years that we have lived in South Carolina and have been visiting Charleston. Wow! We had the nicest leisurely lunch in a understated elegant space and appreciated every second of it. Our server was wonderful, professional, friendly and accommodating. The menu selection was perfect and an excellent wine list. We had the lobster roll and it was absolutely delicious! I have a penchant for fine china/porcelain and was blown away to see the pattern Constance by Bernardaud being used for the bread plates. I actually ordered a double espresso just to see if they used this for the service and I was not disappointed! While I know the Charleston place recently sold to a private individual/family I am excited to see the changes that are being made and that will come!
Be the first to ReplyConstruction Noise
So I will begin by saying I was never able to actually eat here. The reason why is because of one thing - Construction. It was awful. Called to confirm before I arrived - Never was notified about construction. I was seated at a table with a glass roof with a gentleman using construction materials not far above where I was seated. It was terrifying. The setting was gorgeous, the entrance through the lobby was decadent, and the glassed garden setting was beautiful. The construction was loud, right above our table, and my group was scared to sit at it. I try to be as understanding as possible, this was a stretch to try and enjoy a peaceful brunch. Highly disappointed and the waiter could see it on all our faces of how uncomfortable we were and comped our coffee orders. It wasn't his fault so I made sure to let him he did the best he could considering the circumstances. 2 out of five stars. 5 Star service minus 3 stars due to not being informed and the severity of the noise and construction. I will be coming back to try again because it's not the server's fault and he was wonderful. Please inform customers of construction before arrival.

This is located inside the The Charleston Place Hotel. The setting is beautiful. The waiters are friendly and top notch. The menu is varied and we had lunch there. Prices are on the high side but normal for the area. Portions are filling. The grounds around the restaurant are beautiful so sit by a window if you can. We went on a Monday without reservations and had no wait to be seated. I'd definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyCharming and sophisticated place in South Carolina!
I visited Charleston and this restaurant for a family birthday party lunch. The restaurant is inside the Charleston Place hotel, beautiful interiors and excellent staff, very impressed. I ordered the famous She Crab soup, beet salad and I sampled some of the other dishes from my relatives. Food was perfect, the soup was delicious and my peach ice tea tasted great. Charming atmosphere and sophisticated menu. If I will be visiting the city again, I will be back for sure.

Excellent food, beautiful atmosphere. We loved the decoration and appreciated the food by a French chef, I would say it’s a mix of French inspiration and southern flavor !
Be the first to ReplyA disappointing lunch
In the past we have enjoyed a lovely Sunday brunch at the Palmetto Cafe. Yesterday we had lunch. My husband had a business meeting nearby. We did not tell our waiter this because we arrived in plenty of time for him to have his lunch and walk the 5 minutes to his meeting. We were greeted well by hostesses, seated and then our waiter greeted us and brought us our requested glasses of water. About that time a couple arrived who obviously frequented the restaurant and was seated in our section and the waiter went over to “ catch up” with them and hear about their travels because we were then ignored. Finally after about 6-7 minutes he took our order by memory, and then he went back to their table for another 8 minutes of conversation and then finally took their order. So our order was delayed in reaching the kitchen which then caused us to be worried about our time. As far as the food, we were very disappointed. The she crab soup was lukewarm and did not have any flavor. My husband’s crabcake was just okay. The house salad was huge, but was as exciting as opening a bag of spring mix and dumping it in a bowl. The salad dressing was the best part of the entire meal. Our bill including tip was just under $100.00. Don’t waste your time or money. There are much better restaurants for lunch in Charleston near King St.
Be the first to ReplyOmelets were excellent
Our family had a Sunday brunch. It was good but nothing special about the brunch buffet. It was a typical hotel breakfast buffet with shrimp and grits (which was excellent) and omelet station (great omelet). Other than that everything else was average hotel buffet.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for breakfast
The atmosphere and decor of the place is gorgeous. The service is impecable and their breakfast buffet offers a nice variety, including some southern faves!
Be the first to ReplyFavorite brunch spot in Charleston
We've had the pleasure of dining here many times; we keep coming back for the exquisite food, atmosphere and service. Each and every time we request Peter R. as our server, as he has ALWAYS made brunch at Palmetto Cafe a memorable experience. We most recently came for Mother's Day and Peter made our time there a fabulous one. He is very personable, knows the menu and drink pairings very well, and provides 5 star service each and every time. We will be back time and time again.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive Breakfast but worth it
My family ended up going twice for breakfast because the first breakfast was so delicious. Our daughters ate off of the children’s menu, pancakes and waffles with fruit of their choice and loved it. Us parents had omelets and waffles and I have to so the corned beef hash omelet was perfect. Winners for sides where the trio of breakfast potatoes and the sage sausages. It did cost a bit over $100 for the family to eat… mostly because we ordered plenty of extra sides but we all agreed for the quality of food and the excellent service our waiter, John, provided it was money well spent.

As guests at Charleston Place, we ate at Palmetto several times. The food was delicious. I am still dreaming about the shrimp & grits. Outstanding service.

Short staffed, outdoor seating closed, food good but expensive, inside hotel, wait after reservation
Be the first to ReplyGreat Breakfast
This is a beautiful, open, and bright little restaurant. The food was delicious, but not expensive. Our server, Peter, was incredibly nice and attentive. I would definitely eat here again!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect Breakfast
As our culinary tour of Charleston continues we experienced Palmetto Cafe today for brunch. Simply awesome from beginning to end. The cappuccino was the start of a great meal. Then came the acai bowl w fresh berries and nuts on the side. Wow. We were ready to charge the gates! Then the entrees including Rib-eye and eggs, grits and a single blueberry pancake with fresh butter and warm syrup - perfect steak, eggs and pancake! This was among the finest breakfasts I have ever eaten, served warmly and personally and high quality start to finish in a beautiful setting. We will return! Not cheap - but you get what you pay for!
Be the first to ReplyA nice breakfast - make reservations!
My husband and I had an excellent breakfast here. The Palmetto Cafe is inside the Charleston Place hotel, which itself was a site to behold strolling through the lobby! I enjoyed my bagel with smoked salmon, and my husband really liked his corned beef omelette. We had hoped to sit in the courtyard but it was too cold. Happily, we were able to take our breakfast drinks into the courtyard after eating to enjoy it briefly before we got too cold. I would have loved to dine outside, though. Maybe you will be lucky enough to be there when it is warm enough... but not too warm. Diners ranged from being very casually dressed to wearing sportcoats.

Lovely! Pretty, bright setting. Excellent professional service, not a single missed beat, perfect timing, questions answered, thoughtful recommendations. All the little touches that you've stopped expecting in this age of diminished dining experiences happen here, and then some. Brioche buns and fancy butters were an unexpected treat and a delicious way to start. Soup arrives hot at the table in one of those little heated metal vessels then poured into bowl. Tasting provided even with a glass of wine, also poured at the table. Wine was perfect, well above the usual choices. Food was excellent, mushroom and she crab soup in particular. Salads are very large, even the 1/2 portion is almost too much. The Palmetto Sampler is fun, a great value and with a bunch of favorites presented in cute delicious generous mini portions.
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal food. Great service. You cannot go wrong here
Phenomenal. I had two lunches there. The she crab soup is quite good, the mushroom soup is exquisite. The grilled beef salad is simply the best salad I have ever eaten anywhere. The seafood club sandwich is a very eclectic offering that was very, very good. It’s presentation was excellent and taste was great. Service was absolutely wonderful. I had the same waiter my second visit and he remembered me by name. That goes a loooooong way

Thank You for the best Thanksgiving Dinner we have ever had! The quality of the food and its preparation was pure perfection. The service was just as good. We are from the Orlando, Florida area and have visited Charleston for Thanksgiving each year for the past 10 years. This is the place we have been looking for.
Thank You
Great place for breakfast!
Our last day in Charleston we had breakfast at Palmetto Cafe. My husband loved his eggs benedict and I had a crab, lobster omelet that was more seafood than eggs and so incredibly delicious! Highly recommend!
