In a nut shell it's just very disappointing.
We had the expectation of a fantastic meal, but it was mediocre at best. We had the chicken liver parfait to start where parfait was delicious but the toast to parfait ratio was way off! We needed double the bread for the amount of parfait. We also had the veal for 2. The belly was delicious but the schnitzel was dry and looked burnt in places. If there was supposed to be a jus or sauce we didn't get one. The Jerusalem artichokes were gummy and gluey. The extra side order of new potatoes were lovely and needed. And finally, although hard to manage there was an extremely boisterous large table near us that were basically obnoxious. We were told they had been asked to keep it down but if they had it had no effect. We did not even consider dessert as we just needed to get out and we weren't the only ones.

The Sunday roast was wonderful as was the coconut parfait for dessert. Enjoyed the interesting selection of Craft brews. Staff was charming and friendly, and the place was filled with very happy diners. Had a lovely evening here.
Be the first to Replybest meal of our whole England trip.
Pig's head was fantastic, aged steak super good, great bread. What's more my vegetarian wife also said this was the best meal of the trip. You guys and gals know what's up

Sunday Roast did not disappoint (except they ran out of chicken). The meat was tender and the sides were amazing. The only thing lacking in 5 stars was the service. If you don't mind being ignored while enjoying a tasty meal, this is still a great place.

We came here for a Sunday roast and it did not disappoint! The roasts were incredibly flavorable - we were particularly pleased with the pork belly and Hogget leg. The cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding that came as sides with the roast were also very delicious. The one thing I will say is that we came for dinner with a reservation at 7pm, and two of the roasts (chicken crown and lamb shoulder) were both already out of stock. This was a disappointment, so maybe I would recommend lunch if you were hoping for the Sunday roast.

My first time in London and the locals had constantly recommended to try a Sunday Roast in the city. Found this business highly reviewed on yelp and within a 10£ cab ride from the hotel. Do recommend doing a reservation as this place is very popular for roasts and family! They're very dog and child friendly with dog water bowls ready, and high chairs for the young ones. We came at 3:30 pm, placed a reservation for the earliest time at 6:00 pm. They don't do well picking up the phone for reservations, so come in person in the morning or day in advance for a reservation you'd like. Walked around and went shopping to build up an appetite. The service and host were both funny and very friendly to us, we were well taken cared of and given enough space to enjoy our food at good pace. The restaurant is bigger than it looks like from the front door, plenty of seating. We ordered the beef Sunday roast, hefeweizen German beer, lamb Sunday roast, apple pear cider, spiced Jamaican cake with cardamom ice cream and earl grey tea to finish. Everything was cooked perfectly tender though the lamb was done better than the beef in our opinion, the texture was better. Portions were excellent value for the quality of food, not too much where you need a to go box. But portion enough to leave barely room for dessert, which is what you want. The goal is to be completely satisfied to the point where you get home and pass out happily. The dinner which fed us so well came just under 80£ which we think is an excellent date night spot for the value. We are so happy we got to try out this restaurant as our first REAL dinner in London after living off street food near the hotel for too many days for a conference.
Be the first to ReplyFirst Sunday roast experience in London, and food was great.
Make sure you have reservations in advance and this place is always busy. Before you even get to the front door, the air is filled with the smell of the roasts (a good sign of the food to come). Be sure to leave room for dessert, as those were tasty as well!

.. My favourite place in London so far!

Dined here pre-Covid-19 on my last 2 trips to London - multiple times each trip! Sunday roast is amazing - still dreaming about it. Lovely ambience, staff, and best of all food! Finished with a very fairly priced port wine. Overall one of the best experiences of my trip.

Made a special trip here from Richmond after seeing all the great reviews. We both love Sunday roast so were looking forward to it. Not sure if we caught them on an off day but it was not worth a special trip. We had the beef and lamb roasts. Both were 3 small thin pieces of roast with veg. Lamb was not pink which was disappointing...perhaps hot gravy overcooked it? Beef was pink and definitely tasted better than lamb. The gravy was outstanding. Cook on veg was inconsistent. I had 1 potato that was not cooked through and 2 that were perfect. Some carrots were hard and others cooked through ... odd. Opted not to have dessert after main.We both left disappointed in the food. Service was prompt and friendly.

We were in London on our Honeymoon and this dinner was awesome. The service, the atmosphere, the liquor selection and THE FOOD! Next time I'm back in London The Pig & Butcher in a definite!

So came here on a whim because it was close by our hotel and boy were we in for a surprise. I believe reservations are preferred but went in anyways. Had a very nice waiter and the ambiance of it was excellent. Very lively, good crowd of people all different ages, great selection of drinks and food. We started taking a look at the drinks menu and wanted to try the different beers but ended up trying out some whiskey instead and one of the bar tenders came to us because our waiter told him we wanted whiskey. We had a lovely tasting of different whiskey. Very unexpected, but was awesome sitting down and getting whiskey tastings. The bar tender was very enthusiastic about it too and gave great detail of the different whiskeys. So onto the food. I had the pork and bf had the pheasant. Had a bite of his pheasant and the waiter had warned us about bbs because it is freshly hunted pheasant and lucky me got one. Had a good laugh about it since the bf didn't get one but it's all good. The food was absolutely delicious. We ended up getting dessert as well and am very pleased we did. Had the caramelized rice pudding with rhubarb and it was such a good balance of sweet and tart. I would highly recommend coming to this place if you're in the area. I am probably going back again before I head to the states. It wasn't just dinner, it was an experience.

Where do I start!? This place is a complete experience!! The decor was rustic and amazing! It appeared to be very popular. We did not have reservations and were lucky to get in, so def make reservations. I tried the Pheasant... it was freshly hunted. Our server warned me to be careful of buckshots in the meat, and sure enough I found one! Lol! The owner came to our table and gave us a complete rundown on their whiskey selection and sampled a few of his favorites for us. My boyfriend tried the pork that was so tasty and delicious. We finished off with a Carmelised Rice Pudding with Rhubarb..OMG!! So good! The staff was so attentive, smiling and so helpful. I would highly recommend to give this place a try!

I love to drink local beers when I'm traveling. Camden lager is delicious. I'd never had a sausage roll or scotch egg before. The sausage roll at the Pig and Butcher was out of this world. Delicious seasoned meat on the flakiest most buttery roll I've tasted. The scotch egg was also sublime. The real treat was our dinner. We shared the Cowboy for two. If I'd known I was eating blood sausage I can't say it would have gone down but it was savory and delicious. Beat meal I've had so far.
