At long last I finally got into the Polo Bar.
Albeit I was alone, sat at the bar, had an early reservation and it was summer. Overall, I enjoyed it. But my experience is mostly driven by Luis, the fantastic bartender. Very friendly and efficient. Made a great Old Fashioned! A branded block ice cube and a polo mallet stirrer was a nice touch. As for the food, the complimentary bar snacks were great. For dinner I had their signature burger. It was fine. Cooked perfectly but can't say it was anything extra special. The atmosphere was very Ralph Lauren - a preppy country club feel. I'm sorta glad I ate at the bar because the main dining room, while very nice, is in the basement. For some reason I just don't care for that. Anywhere. I also got the sense that the brass isn't shining as bright, literally and figuratively. The decor seems to need a slight refresh and the restaurant is thriving mostly on the exclusivity it's built up over the years. If I were to go back I'd like to on a cold winter's night or around Christmas when the restaurant would be very warm and inviting. And hopefully, the brass will be polished.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely worth the difficult reservation.
We lucked out on a table for 4 day of by calling at 4pm to check for cancellations. We live on the same street so it wasn't difficult for us to wrangle a couple friends and walk over. We started off with drinks and snacks at the bar on the upper floor. Once our table was ready, we descended the stairs to a gorgeous dining room with dim lighting, wood trim, and polo-themed artwork. We shared everything family style so we could try a little of everything. We started off with the complimentary bread and butter and ordered pigs in a blanket. For our mains we got the New York strip steak, Ralph's corned beef sandwich, the polo bar burger and the burger special of the day. We added on mashed potatoes and sautéed garlic spinach as sides. The standout dish was by far the corned beef sandwich in which the beef was sliced perfectly thin and the marbled rye perfectly crisped. Everyone agreed it was the best corned beef sandwich we've had in the city. Highly recommend this spot if you're up to the reservation challenge!
Be the first to ReplyI'm so sorry to all NYers, but this RL Polo Bar is a flop
I'm so sorry to all NYers, but this RL Polo Bar is a flop compared to the Chicago RL restaurant. The service was the only decent part, although forgettable, too. The design of Polo Bar NYC is somewhat different than the Chi RL spot. Polo Bar's main dining room showcases a herringbone oak floor with walls paneled in pine salvaged from a 19th century mill. Equestrian paintings are displayed on walls clad in billiard cloth, while banquettes are upholstered in the familiar saddle leather. You do not have that "old school" vibe here as you do in Chi, with Persian carpets draping the floors, vintage, wooden bookshelves filled with books like Moby Dick, navy blue walls, tons of framed oil paintings on the walls, and white tablecloth tables. Both locations are beautifully designed; Chicago, however, has a lot more old-world charm and sophistication. The menu was evidently limited and simple. So simple, in fact, that there was only one burger, 3-4 steak/fish options, 5 sandwiches, gazpacho (only soup offered) and standard sides. The stars of the menu - according to the patrons and servers - are the corned beef sandwich and burger. Of all things, those 2 items were the stars. So, naturally, we went with the recommendations. Corned beef sandwich- 2 (meat was so dry that I needed the heavily-buttered bread to swallow the meat.) No thanks! Burger- beef patty was not great. Thick patty, stacked with lettuce, tomato, but not great. I was shocked, because the Chicago location (which has several kinds of burgers on the menu) has AMAZING burgers. Fries- 3 Oysters (from Maine and CA, split equally)- 4 After the disappointment with the burger/sandwich, we went ahead and ordered the Dover Sole and the special of the day, Branzino. Dover Sole- 3 (couldn't believe how they could ruin this fish, especially when Chicago RL has one of the best Dover Soles around). Branzino- 3 Lattes- 3.5 When we were nearly finished, we noticed all of the other tables had been served water from pitchers. Our table, somehow, had glass bottles of water that were used to fill our cups. We had just provided our card to the server so as not to wait for the bill to be printed and to quickly get out. When we left, I had given some thought to the unusually high bill, and had decided to go back and ask for a receipt. When I looked it over, I realized we were charged nearly $50 for water. I didn't complain, but I made sure to let our server know how sleazy he was for that.
Be the first to ReplyCompletely average food, drinks and service.
No idea why it is the hardest reservation to get. I have had better meals at chain restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyHad to wait 50 minutes for our table.
Drinks semi overpriced however the burger was very good and so was service.

The Polo Bar doesn't miss on anything; From the atmosphere, to the food, to the service... Everything is on point. Get the pigs in a blanket, burger and brownie. Favorite restaurant in all of NYC, worth the hype and hour spent waiting on the phone for a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyI waited an hour to get a reservation.
One month ahead. The food was excellent, ambience was great, very Ralph Lauren. Birthday celebration and I enjoyed every minute.

The ambiance, the food, the service were all truly impeccable. Dom was great and truly made it a special evening for us. We started off with their special avocado and crab salad, crab cake, and shrimp cocktail. My boyfriend and I both agreed it's probably the best shrimp cocktail we've ever had. I got the filet with broccolini and mashed, he did the salmon, and we got a burger to share. The polo burger is an absolute must have! The polo bar is truly an experience to be had and we can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyExpectations Unmet, Yet Culinary Excellence
Expectations Unmet, Yet Culinary Excellence Prevails Venturing into The Polo Bar was an adventure two months in the making, but what ensued was a rollercoaster of highs and lows that left my friend and me with mixed feelings. Upon arrival for our 10 pm reservation, we found the place buzzing with activity, even on a Tuesday night. The energy was palpable, but unfortunately, finding a spot at the bar proved challenging amidst the crowded space. Despite our excitement, our attempt to capture the moment with photos was met with unwelcome scrutiny from a staff member, dampening our initial enthusiasm. It was disheartening to feel targeted for simply wanting to preserve our memories. However, we persevered and managed to enjoy some delightful treats at the bar, including warm roasted olives that tantalized our taste buds. My Polo Punch drink was satisfying, though my friend's Pinot Grigio was a safe bet. Yet, the discomfort lingered as the same staff member seemed to shadow our every move, creating an uneasy atmosphere. Moving to our table, we eagerly sampled the menu, finding hits and misses among the offerings. The pigs in a blanket were passable, but the corned beef sandwich was a revelation, with melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The Caesar salad struck the right balance of flavors, though the accompanying polo burger failed to impress, especially with lackluster fries. Dessert, however, was a redemption. The brownie with vanilla ice cream was a heavenly finale to our meal, leaving us with satisfied smiles. Our initial server, Nikki, was a gem, embodying warmth and attentiveness. However, a shift in service left much to be desired, with a new waiter failing to match Nikki's standard, even drawing complaints from other patrons. I was left wondering if our late reservation played a role in the staff's evident fatigue, but for a venue renowned for its exclusivity, I anticipated consistent service and attention regardless of the hour. It was also apparent that The Polo Bar caters to a specific clientele, and as the only person of color among the guests, I couldn't help but feel a tad uncomfortable. Despite these observations, the quality of the cuisine alone would warrant a return visit, although perhaps not with great haste. Overall, our experience at The Polo Bar was a mixed bag. While the food had its moments of brilliance and service started strong, inconsistencies and discomfort tarnished the overall impression. While I may return for certain dishes, I can't help but feel that there are other establishments in the city that offer a more consistent and polished dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was outstanding.
The corn beef sandwich was my favorite, we also got the burger that was delicious. We ordered the brownie, pecan dessert. It was phenomenal. The price isn't too bad for the quality of the food. We will definitely be coming back here great place and ambience.
Be the first to ReplyI waited 2 hours on the phone to score a Resy here and
I waited 2 hours on the phone to score a Resy here and honestly, I would do it again. The atmosphere and ambience here is sexy, exclusive, chic, romantic and warm. This has the perfect fall/winter vibe. The moment you walk past the bouncers- yes there are bouncers at this restaurant- you feel immersed in luxury. I saw someone mention this felt like a social club in the early 1900s and that is EXACTLY what this felt like. The service was outstanding, even at the bar. (Where we were able to be sat.) The food surprised me. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't expecting much but I was pretty blown away by the experience. Everything from the bar nuts to the burger were delicious. The bar comes with 3 snackies, truffle chips, nuts and fried olives. Everything was addictingly good for a random bar snack. I would buy those nuts in a heartbeat if they bagged them and sold them in stores. We got an espresso martini and an old fashioned. The old fashioned was solid but the espresso martini was probably the best espresso martini I've ever had. It was the perfect amount of bitter, creamy and rich. We split the shrimp cocktail based on the bartender's recommendation. He said they were the biggest shrimp he's seen and he wasn't lying- the shrimp was MASSIVE and absolutely, totally delicious. Highly recommend getting this to split if coming here. We also split the Caesar salad. Even this was incredible for just a basic salad. Each leaf felt like it was dressed just perfectly and the croutons were fatty and scrumptious. They even split these and brought these on two plates and made sure we both got the same amount of croutons- just amazing little touches like this that I loved about this place. Lastly, we split the burger which, again- I was shocked how good this was. It is on my top burgers list of NYC and was cooked perfectly. The only thing that was just ok was the dessert. We went with the Polo Bar brownie. It was a nice sweet treat to round out the meal but this could have been slightly richer both in texture and flavor. Top to bottom this place was awesome and I'm so glad I got to experience it. Hopefully I can snag another resy in the near future. 4.8/5

This one star has nothing to do with the quality of service, food, ambiance. All have been perfect during my previous experiences. However, there is something weird with the reservations lately. Yesterday i called to make one for exactly 30 days later. No availability. Ok i understand because i called late. Today i set up my alarm for 10 am when reservations open. Calked exactly at 10:00:10!!!! Waited 35 mins !!! And hung up!!! So someone has to explain me how it is possible that in 10 seconds hundreds of people called - that is what i was told the day before!!!- therefore i could not be given a response!!! Even if so, how is it possible that, let's say all the reservations got booked for those people who were so talented and found a technology that were able to call in the 10 seconds before me, Noone was able to answer during the following 34 minutes 50 seconds to say " sorry we are booked".. something is wrong ...
Be the first to ReplyHad a great time at the Polo Bar.
This is our 5th time dining at this restaurant and each time we enjoy our experience more and more.

Went for my birthday and what a wonderful Celebration dinner. The vibe and decor of the place was just as expected. Elegant and reserved. I loved starting up stairs with some snacks and then heading down the grand wooden staircase to a live and hustling dining room. The service was top notch and so memorable. I still think about their bread and butter service along with the caviar to start. Don't skip on the Dover sole or the desserts. Everything about this restaurant simply HITS.

Great experience front to back! It starts with the reservation team. I've called many times and was not able to get a reservation. The reservation team are always pleasant and empathetic. This time, I spoke with Marina who was lovely. We sat at the bar and met a great bartender named Louis. He was awesome. He was so knowledgeable about the restaurant and had nothing but nice things to say about the Lauren family. Our experience started with cocktails. I had a Vesper Martini and challenged Louis to make it better than Bemelmans Bar (famous for their Vesper Martini). He nailed it. We ordered the Pigs in a Blanket, and mini Ruben bites. The hotdogs had the perfect snap to them, a little bit of smokiness, and the croissant wrapping was perfect. I read another review about them being nothing special. Fake news. I love hotdogs and these were awesome. The Ruben bites were perfection. Very lean corned beaf. My wife and I split the appetizers and were full. I decided to have an Old Fashion made with homemade bitters and simple syrup. They used Woodford Reserve for the bourbon. Louis then stamped the ice cube with the Polo logo. So cool. We ordered the house burger cooked medium. Louis suggested we split it so that we had room for dessert. Great call. They split the burger for us. Very tasty and the hand cut fries were tasty as well. For dessert, I had Grand Marnier and Cappuccino. I had the coconut cake and my wife had the brownie Sunday. We met a lot of nice people including a couple, Mike and Karen, who know Ralph and Ricky. We met twins from Texas and their friend from Connecticut. They had dinner and were going to see a play. They had a final cocktail at the bar as well. Great staff, great food, great people. All in all, front to back, it was a great experience. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyWOW! What a wonderful surprise it was to dine at the Polo
WOW! What a wonderful surprise it was to dine at the Polo Bar tonight to celebrate a birthday. I went to only expect a very well appointed restaurant, but much to my delight food and service was fantastic. From being checked in at the front door, meeting Benjamin and being escorted to our table, then having Frank our waiter all was all in a great way. Being concerned on a time limit for dining when asked to place all dinner order I felt a bit rushed, Frank assured us of no time constraints would be necessary. He showed up when we needed for any thing, and didn't have any pressure for moving us along. Our cocktails were just right, hot dogs in a blanket was whimsical, tuna tartare tasted superb, burgers, fries and Veal Milanese was much better than expected. The birthday gal had the coconut layer cake with coffee and expresso martinis to end a terrific experience.
Be the first to ReplyA beautiful time was had at the polo bar.
We arrived to our reservation 30 mins prior to our time. Your name is taken at the door to make sure you have a reservation before you even enter. Our group of four sat at the bar and had a beautiful cocktail first. About 25 later we requested to go to our table. The hostess said someone would bring out drinks to our table. We were lead down the beautiful staircase to our seat. I heard this place was a celebrity hot spot and that was definitely true on this night. The decor was gorgeous and the service five star. We didn't want for anything. Someone was always there to get anything we requested, clear our table and give us new plates and utensils. The food was sooooo good. They have the warm popovers which I love!!! I had the branzino , Caesar salad and crab cake and then finished it all off with chocolate and vanilla ice w chocolate syrup. My friends had steak and coconut cake. The reservation was not easy to get but it is doable. You just have to exercise extreme patience.

Bravo Polo Bar! You'll have a patron for the life of your establishment. Luis was the epitome of an incredible almost MAGICIAN like bartender/host! Thank you for the experience! He along with Anthony and all of the gentlemen at the bar curated a fantastic experience for me. This was post brunch so imagine how fatigued I was. Nevertheless, I was able to enjoy my tuna tartare at the bar! This isn't typical for that seating so please know that was part of the magic of Luis! The decor was dimly lit and had an old fashion feel. I'll be returning just for a smorgasbord of appetizers and additionally a few of their meals! The nocturne (sp?) tea was the perfect finisher to my meal. Drinks- 10/10 Luis and Friends Service-10/10 Ambiance- 9/10 The 9 is because I was seated at the bar for my meal and it was extremely cold with the draft. Otherwise loved it! Will I return? You bet your bottom dollar I will! A tout a l'heure The Polo Bar !

Overall a great dining experience, good luck getting a reservation. The staff is super friendly and attentive, ambiance is classy and elegant. Website states strict dress code but it was not enforced the night we were there. Started with a cocktail at the bar before my party arrived, bartenders were very nice and offered great recommendations. I had the margarita which was light & refreshing, when the table was ready they transferred our bill and brought our drinks downstairs to the dining room. Complimentary bread was very good & flakey, similar to a croissant. For appetizer we had the oysters, crab cake & salad, all good. I highly recommend the crab cake. Entrees- party of 3 we shared the burger & branzino. The burger was cooked to perfection, it seemed like everyone in the restaurant was ordering this! I would pass on the Branzino, a little overcooked and bland, served with broccoli rabe. Mushroom side was very good! For dessert we shared the brownie and opted for coffee ice cream instead of vanilla per our waiter's recommendation. It did not disappoint.
Be the first to Reply10/10.
Although it's super hard to get a reservation it's definitely worth it! Everything was great from the moment you walk in. Love the old school vibe. The wood, the leather, the ambiance is everything & more. The margaritas were great although drinks are pricey. Everyone is super attentive & the food was great. Started with the oysters, crab cake (AMAZING), & chopped salad. Entree we tried the infamous polo burger which is great for sharing (very thick) & the grilled branzino which was ok. (Nothing special). For dessert we had the polo bar brownie & opted for the coffee ice cream which was soooo good you could actually taste the coffee beans in every bite. I would definitely come back to explore the menu.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place.
Can't wait to return. The food and service are as great as they are at RL in Chicago, but the ambience amazing.
Be the first to ReplyFinally got a chance to cross off this restaurant this time
Finally got a chance to cross off this restaurant this time twice .insert. smug face in the amount of time I'm in town. I totally get it. Everything is delicious. From bevies, starters (prawn cocktail- yum), seared scallops and its delicious glaze, pigs in a blanket (totally different than the ones you buy frozen from back in the day), Oysters were juicy and perfect sized, burger was juicy and not overwhelming, my favourite corned beef sandwich in New York (the others are overwhelming portioned too large), all the desserts were amazing, esp. the chocolate cake. Decor is very comfortable, clean and old school. NYC is a whirlwind, and at polo bar it's easy to forget to take some more photos and just focus on the food and company. I'd love to come back and try the rest of the menu.
