A wonderful stay
We had one night dinner bed and breakfast at Salutation on our way to visit family . There was on site parking , a warm welcome and we enjoyed truly excellent customer service at every level throughout our stay . We would highly recommend it to others. Topsham is a lovely old town with magnificent Victorian houses, character pubs and interesting retail offers from a number of local businesses . There’s also an easy walk through to the estuary and round to an RSPB hide for those interested in nature /bird life. Many thanks to the Salutation teams .

We visited The Salutation Inn for a weekend. From start to finish, it was absolutely excellent. Firstly ever staff member was exceptional and nothing was too much trouble. The room was excellent and the breakfast was spot on. We will definitely be going back to Topsham and will stay at this establishment.

A surprise birthday treat of two nights in a suite with dinner on both evenings. The food is to die for and I thoroughly recommend the tasting menu with matching wines. The breakfast, which is also included is extremely generous and equally delicious. The staff are professional and attentive and the whole ambiance is faultless.

We had a really lovely time here last Saturday. The afternoon tea was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. My father in law is diabetic and I’d forgotten that he couldn’t have too many cakes so our waiter had a few more sandwiches made up and bought out for him. They even gave us boxes for the uneaten cakes so we could take them home and enjoy them later - which we did!

My family ate here and I must say sbsolutely first class from start to finish. It was my granddaughters 18th birthday and she so enjoyed it! The food and the accompanying wine was superb, Martin was so knowledgeable about the stories behind the wines and the food was out of this world!! Dan and the other two ladies who served were all so professional in what they did! Can’t wait to return without doubt the best eatery around exeter by miles!!!

From the welcoming tour round the inn to the quality of the room and food, this was a very enjoyable stay. The staff were relaxed and helpful. The bed was very comfortable too…such a change from some ultra soft ones we’ve slept in recently that should have been changed years ago. The menu offered a good range of dishes and the wine list was good value. A hearty breakfast was the final tick!

Outstanding all around- Service, rooms, layout, location and food- loved having a separate kitchen on bedroom floor. Hired 4 rooms and all very well furnished . Saturday night gala dinner was delicious and all the plaudits you read about the food are correct. Happy 10th anniversary to Salutation
Be the first to ReplyDoes Not Reflect The Flattering Website
Stayed here and had dinner. The room was okay, clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. Much more run down though than the beautiful, stylish website images present. Dinner was a mixed experience. I don't like to big a wine list, but this was the other extreme. Oysters were very good, fresh and good value, but my Mackeral starter was way too salty. The vegetables with the main were chewy and bland. The Tonka bean creme brûlée was outstanding. The other things with it didn't work and were too ordinary, but the brûlée itself had a great flavour and texture, one of the best I've ever tasted. All round the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We took advantage of hotels autumn three for two offer, but did not need the inducement, would definitely stay again. Location is lovely on the banks of Exe estuary, with views of sunset whilst enjoying a late afternoon pint ( we were fortunate with the mild weather). Topsham has real sense of bustling and friendly community. Hotel staff were without exception friendly and welcoming. Food and service were spot on. Room (6) was good size with large double bed and clean. Enjoyed the small communal galley kitchen for making afternoon tea, excellent idea. Well done all at Salutation, you made our stay at Topsham most enjoyable.
Be the first to ReplyReally Nice Small Hotel, Great Breakfast
A really nice small hotel located very centrally in the middle Topsham. The room was very nice, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning is really worth the extra - highly recommended. Overall the Inn is cosy and really friendly. Topsham is a nice place to visit as well and provides an excellent base to explore Devon from. I will stay here again.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Short Mid-Week Break
We live just a few miles from Topsham, and over the years have often gone to The Salutation Inn for lunch and afternoon snacks. The food has always been excellent, so last week (27th July) we booked up for a two-night break. The offer seemed very good – bed, breakfast and evening meal, all for a very reasonable rate, so off we went. It was fabulous, really. We had ‘The Cosy’ room, it was clean, with a very big bed, absolutely fine. Clean en-suite. The food, both in the evening meal and breakfast, was truly excellent. Finally, the staff got it just right, pleasant, professional and helpful when needed, thank you. If you are not familiar with Topsham, it is the old port of Exeter, and good for wandering around, with things to look at and excellent scenery. Parking can be ‘interesting’ in Topsham, but the Salutation has a car park to the rear which was included as part of the package. If this all sounds a bit gushing, I like to give credit where credit is due, and we have no connection to the Salutation apart from being very satisfied guests. I highly recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyIf in the area, this is the only place to stay!
A very special place, spotlessly clean, light and airy, once inside you know your stay will be memorable for all the right reasons. The staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them, and as for the food, amazing! We stayed for two midweek nights and as such were lucky to take advantage of their very reasonable deal, what fantastic value for money. All we can say, is thanks to everyone for looking after us so very well.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic hotel in a fantastic location!
We had previously stayed here for 1 night and vowed to go back. So when we wanted to stay over to attend our Daughter's graduation in Exeter this was our opportunity. What a surprise to find we had been upgraded to the master suite - it was lovely. Spacious with a sofa and a little fridge (which was invaluable as the weather was in the high 20's). It really let us relax before the event on the Monday morning. We also had the opportunity this time to sample the cooked breakfast on Sunday morning and it is one of the best we have had. The staff were very informative too and nothing was too much trouble. As we said the last time we will definitely be returning. I just hope we don't have to wait too long.

Our third stay and every bit as good as before. Beautiful, sparkling clean, spacious room and genuinely friendly staff. Delicious breakfast cooked to order. Although it is right in the centre of Topsham, effective double glazing meant a good night’s sleep. Provided you can find the car park you will be happy here!

Stayed for just one night on a special occasion. Bed was huge and extremely comfortable - the Master suite is really nicely appointed and takes up the whole top floor. Food was superb - fresh local seafood features predominantly, with a good selection of high quality wine to match. Highly recommended.

We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Large very comfortable bedrooms, excellent attentive service and superb dinners in the restaurant (two nights). The tasting menu was an absolute delight as was every other aspect of this lovely inn.

My birthday lunch. Oh my didn’t the guys at the Salutation do well. Lovely meal, great food, great service and a lovely atmosphere. Definitely recommend going to this lovely place. I had moules and the beef; beautiful, my wife had the Terrine and chicken supreme, which it was! Thanks to the staff for treating us well. We will be back.

We had 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast and loved our stay . The room was clean and comfortable and we really appreciated the galley where we could make ourself Nespresso coffee with real milk from the fridge ( fruit and breakfast items also available to guests but we didn’t need them ) . Breakfast fruit/yoghurt and a choice of cooked food was all freshly prepared and served to us at our table ; smoked haddock and poached egg highly recommended as well as the home made marmalade. Dinner was excellent on both nights and our waitress recommended a red wine that was very drinkable and good value for money . The weather exceeded expectations, always a bonus , so we walked miles and enjoyed some good sightings of waders on the estuary and we saw a variety of bird life in and around the RSPB centre . Darts Farm has a wonderful choice of produce and gift items and we would highly recommend the whole area, the Salutation Inn and their amazing staff .

My daughter and I (baby in tow), enjoyed lunch here today, gorgeous open sandwiches, a glass of rose, and we shared the cheese board, so relaxing. Some of the food I saw looked amazing, the mushroom risotto, and the afternoon teas. The lady who found our table really looked after us. Will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyA must see!
Such a lovely place with a great warm welcome from staff and customers alike. The history of the building is so interesting and a great range of food and drinks. A lovely fire makes the place so cosy too. The views from the windows are just stunning, I could spend all day in here. I’ll definitely be back.
