The Smith New York Reviews from The Last Year
Good breakfast at The Smith
Our family went to The Smith for breakfast during our trip to NYC this past summer. We walked over from our hotel and afterwards went over to Central Park. I had The Smith eggs Benedict with home fries. I thought my meal was very good.
The Smith was around the corner from our hotel in midtown.
The staff was all so friendly and great! Made a reservation and when we came in we were seated quickly. Then about 15min later got a phone call from the restaurant asking where we were because our table was ready. It was so funny because I was on the phone waving at the hostess from my seat and we all couldn't stop laughing! Nicco came over to apologize because they forgot to mark us as seated and we laughed and conversed about NY. He gave us some great tips and things to see - and he even gave us complimentary cookies and a dessert over it. It was all just so funny and a harmless oversight but we were treated wonderful. The food was excellent as well! Wonderful experience and will definitely go back!
Really tasty food, the place was busy and service was great.
What more can you ask for?

I took my parents, who were visiting from Asia, to The Smith midtown for what should have been an enjoyable family brunch. However, things got off to a very poor start with the hostess working the front. Despite many open tables clearly visible, the hostess claimed they were fully booked and couldn't seat us. Confused, I quickly booked a table for four on OpenTable with no issues. When I went back inside to clarify with the hostess and manager, the hostess seemed flustered. While I can't say for certain, I found her immediate denial of a table to my non-English speaking parents rather questionable. The restaurant didn't seem particularly busy, so I'm at a loss as to why she would have turned us away initially. Ultimately, we were seated without further issue. However, the experience left a sour taste. As a local who has dined at The Smith numerous times, I expected better than what came across as either incompetence or discrimination from the front of house team. Our meal itself was okay, but this initial interaction put a damper. I'm disappointed The Smith would have staff that seems to treat customers differently based on perceptions. I won't be returning to The Smith Midtown when there are so many other options in the neighborhood.

My review is for brunch only - absolutely fantastic! The food here is consistently good. It's one of those places that you want to try something new but can't because the last thing you tried was so yummy you need to have it again. Really nice quality and presented well - even on their busiest days, my food comes out hot, never like it was sitting there waiting to be served which I really appreciate. The staff have always been very kind and accommodating, and the times we sat outside, had the pleasure of seeing diners out with their dogs - they are super pet friendly and it was wonderful to see. Ambiance is very nice whether inside or out, and I give credit to the staff who have to not only serve but also dodge bikers. They handle it with such grace, even when juggling multiple orders. Give this place a try. Can't wait to be back.

I had the bibimbop, and for someone who is Korean, it's hard to impress, this was by far one of the best I ever had, rice was cooked perfectly and ingredients spot on. Still thinking about it
Love love love this place.
The spaghetti Bolognese was to die for. My son loved the steak although he ordered it medium and I think that's overcooking it but either way it was awesome. My wife loved hers and she's a vegetarian. The service was excellent.
Way, way, too loud inside.
We made a reservation for 8 ladies to have dinner and after we were seated, we couldn't even hear the person seated right next to us. Thank heavens Tavern On The Green was able to accommodate us. We had a fantastic dinner in the garden there.
Went here with a group.
Overall nice decor and it wasn't crowded. I had the Brussels sprouts and burrata. Thought they were both pretty average. The burrata portion size was very small. Did enjoy the brussel sprout sauce! I thought the menu was a lil too basic.
I had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic breakfast
I had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic breakfast spot and it was nothing short of amazing. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The menu is diverse, offering a wonderful variety of options that cater to all tastes. The flavors were absolutely incredible. Each dish was crafted with care and attention to detail, bursting with fresh and delicious ingredients. I highly recommend the salmon benedict and the fluffy pancakes - both were out of this world! The service was exceptional too. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure that everything was perfect. The coffee was rich and perfectly brewed, providing the ideal start to the day. Overall, this breakfast place exceeded all my expectations. I can't wait to return and try more of their delectable offerings. If you're looking for a place with great flavors and a delightful dining experience, this is it!

Updating over a disappointing experience: bone in the salmon tartare, very overcooked steak, sides served after mains were nearly finished, and no water service. I generally like The Smith, but this location has its shortcomings.
went here for breakfast the other day with a party of 3.
had the avocado toast which tasted lovely and the half order was a perfect portion for myself. the salad that came with it was delicious too. Friendly wait staff. The rancheros eggs and hash looked great too.

The staff at The Smith were very accommodating of our large group, even allowing us to make some last minute changes. They coordinated service so that we all had our meals at the same time and they made sure our drinking glasses were as full as we wanted them. We all enjoyed our meals. The casual atmosphere was just what we were looking for. And for those of us not ready to leave... the large bar set up in the front of the restaurant was fabulous!
Administrative F….
Sorry kitchen, waitstaff, bartenders, etc. The Administration of the place really let you down. We reserved a table weeks before, with lots of Brunch times available for Mothers Day. Picked one and showed up on time with the full group. OK, great! We arrive and our options are to eat outside in a 50 degree drizzle, or squeeze into their long bar table, kinda FCFS….not acceptable for special occasions unless you just show up unannounced. You know it is noisy in the bar for a special occasion family dinner. The waitstaff was undermanned for the volume, but certainly was fine. They could barely hear us order across the table. Others were similarly relegated to this same fate…. Food was fine, bartenders and general staff all helpful. Too bad their competence and effort was undercut by their bosses…

We stopped at this place on our way to LaGuardia airport
We stopped at this place on our way to LaGuardia airport and it was a delicious brunch to wrap up our NY foodie adventure. We started with the potato chips with blue cheese fondue, which are to die for. The grilled chicken sandwich was juicy and tasty. We also had the kale and quinoa salad, pancakes, and the Smith eggs benedict. If you plan on visiting The Smith, I highly recommend reserving a table, especially during the busy brunch hours. We had to wait longer than anticipated and almost did not have the chance to try this place.
Lovely lunch
We came as it was near our hotel for lunch on our last day it’s a very large venue with a good menu locally sourced beers so no Budweiser and Stella but it was very nice and food was very good 👍

Had a fantastic experience today at brunch! Weather was fantastic, food was spectacular. If you go to brunch request to be served by "Jack"! He took great care and made great conversation. Will be back soon!

The Smith is a renowned spot, known for its vibrant atmosphere and popular brunch options. With a diverse menu, newcomers may feel overwhelmed. However, the spacious, retro-style interior makes it ideal for large gatherings. Opting for the fried calamari and grilled chicken sandwich, I was pleasantly surprised by their exceptional seasoning and flavorful sauces. The blend of spicy, sweet, and salty notes created a delightful harmony. This location is especially suited for hosting gatherings when you're in need of a spacious, crowd-pleasing venue!
I've been to this Smith location maybe five or six times.
Every time excellent. Burger salad drinks fries, pancakes all of them are delicious. Freshly squeezed juice!!! Try all of it

Came here for a birthday and was honestly kind of disappointed. I got their vodka pasta and being a huge fan of vodka rigatoni, this was a major let down. It had a nutty flavor and was dry even with the sauce and cheese on top. I had a few bites and called it quits. The margarita and the not-pictured s'mores dessert was good though.

Forgot to serve one of the entrees during brunch, really poor service. A shame when a pricy brunch place can't do the basics right.

The food was great, The Service was awesome we got our food quickly also I recommend the burger and the iced matcha latte Overall this is a great place to dine at perfect for brunch and family.
Nice bistrot with a variety of quality food
Nice bistro like restaurant with quality food and good atmosphere. Very good burger and excellent brunch options. Only note of caution: the place is very big and can be loud at busy times.

I am rating the Smith in midtown, we have had dinner a few times there and it's one of our favorite restaurants in Manhattan. I want to mention that Justin the manager is outstanding, I had an issue with DoorDash which by the way I will never use again, and he helped me resolved the issue and made it up to us. I highly recommend this restaurant not only because of the quality of the food but also because of the amazing service.

After our fantastic team-building event, we headed to dinner at The Smith on 2nd Ave.Street. The ambiance was welcoming, the service was excellent, and my meal was delightful. Everyone at the table also seemed to thoroughly enjoy their dishes. Overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience at a lovely restaurant in Midtown.
Excellent eatery
Laid back venue, great cocktails and excellent breakfast options - nothing bad to say, would go back. Great for families and couples alike.
The place has a good atmosphere, and the service is good, but the food is mediocre.
The place has very good reviews, so perhaps it was just a matter of luck, but it was the only mediocre meal we had in NY. The bread served on the table seemed old and flavorless, the salad was frankly bad, and the fish was the only thing that wasn't bad.
Everything I get here is just amazing.
Cannot recommend enough for every occasion and every single dish they serve. They even have gluten free pasta that tastes good and the chicken the add to their pasta (if you ask) is so perfectly cooked
Tragicly Awful
See, their strategy is to make you wait so long that you don't have tome to return your food. Fish Tacos? I guess that's their chef fishing in the East River. The burger. Yuck. Tasted rotten. Soo many awesome places to eat. Go elsewhere. Blah.
Great quality American faire.
Popular restaurant bust rarely have to wait. Good service! I would come back.

First visit, ordered the shrimp & grits for brunch and I have absolutely never put anything that delicious in my mouth before. Ahmazing! Staff was wonderful, restaurant is clean. Food is excellent.
Really excellent!
Delicious Italian food, starters, great pasta & desserts. Really tasty; an excellent experience I was not expecting when getting in!
Thumbs up for the sink by the front door
Four and a half stars. Good atmosphere, very lively and large restaurant. There was a sink with soap and paper towel right inside the entrance, which was a welcome surprise. I wish all restaurants would do this! We washed our hands. The potato chips with blue cheese appetizer was very tasty, as was the mac and cheese appetizer. Very creamy and zesty. My salmon was moist and delicious, however, the menu described it as coming with "crispy potatoes," but there was only one piece of potato on my plate (although it was a tasty bite!). The waiter was superb and offered us a round of free drinks to make up for a delay in serving my friend's drink earlier in the meal, which seemed to be due to a technical issue. We really appreciated that. Would return.
Excellent venue and the love the service.
Amazing food. Great place to start St Paddy's day celebration.
Delectable dinner! So impressed by everything I had - crazy
Delectable dinner! So impressed by everything I had - crazy to think this is a chain restaurant. Service was great too. Old fashioned with Basil Hayden was made well, Riptide oysters from Westport, Massachusetts were the best I've ever had, ribeye was so juicy, rigatoni "allá vodka" pasta has this pink sauce to die for - so well seasoned with a hint of basil, little gem Caesar salad was refreshing with bits of crunchy Parmesan, tomato soup with all the cheese was nice and creamy, great creamy + well/seasoned mashed potatoes and the baked mac 'n cheese was pretty good.
Average service, average food, but good cocktails.
We ordered the mac and cheese for the table and ordered the kale salad (added shrimp), smith burger, and ricotta gnocchi. The shrimp came out a bit charred/dry to our liking but the rest of the food was good but average. The star of the night was the espresso martini and gin slushee. Our reservations were at 6PM and it was busy but not too packed nor too loud.
Neighborhood favorite
This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Fun atmosphere and good food. It does get a little loud at happy hour but the drinks are great and the vibe is happening. The burger is great but the smores in a jar is the best thing ever!!!
Expected better for the price
Average bone in rib eye for the price. Also not very big for the price. Very narrow wine list and the only American Cab Sav was also average. Service was fine and the spinach and fries on the side were excellent.
Good
We went on December 25th and we were a bit hesitant because we had read some bad reviews, but we had a very pleasant experience. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded and we got the table that we had reserved instantly (as it should be.) The waiter was nice. The only two reasons for the review being average and not very nice is because our food took a long time to be served and because the burger was disappointingly small.
Very average
Food was ok. Well cooked and tasty. I HATE the main course coming out when the dirty entree dishes are still on the table. Table was chaotic and cluttered and was cleared whilst we were eating our main course. Felt rushed and lacking any occasion!

The site doesn't have resources to properly execute a reservation transfer. Some places allow it however the best bet is to open a chat on the listing from the seller and communicate there

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
