The Stand NYC New York Reviews from The Last Year
I've been here twice for shows.
The first time was during the pandemic, and the show was out front on the sidewalk, as were the dining tables. That time we got the menu which is shown online, and I wasn't crazy about it. I also don't even remember what I ordered but I remember not liking it. I'm picky though, so not a reflection of the restaurant necessarily. I just went again recently to a main room show, and decided to order food when I saw that it was a totally different (pub style) menu which included a basket of hand cut fries and popcorn chicken. I got both of those and both were awesome!

When my sister told me that her and her BF got tickets for us to go to a comedy show, I was like "oh, cool." I've been to a few stand up comedy shows in my lifetime (The Improv in Irvine and Brea, the Comedy Store in LA, etc) so I was looking forward to it. When we arrived at the location, all I remember seeing was a huge wall of amber and bottle sat the bar... okay? Where is the comedy stage? Lo and behold, you go downstairs and it's a whole other venue down there! Ambiance was intimate but still big enough that it can hold a solid crowd. Full table service is provided and the servers are on top of it! The show was awesome... all of the comedians were solid and the host (shout out to JC Mendoza!) killed it!! I can't recommend this place enough to anyone finding themselves in NYC and looking for a fun night out!
Let me start out by saying, this is a wonderful date night
Let me start out by saying, this is a wonderful date night location. Very esthetically pleasing, service was great from the hostess to the servers. Drinks were great, the food is where I felt it lacked. All is plated nicely, but it fell short in the flavor department. Comedy show was great, really enjoyed the show and it was very affordable! I would come back for the cocktails and show for sure.
4/5 in both comedy and food
I had no idea the Stand had a full basement with a giant comedy venue! I had been twice before to the “Upstairs” which is very small and intimate, and would highly recommend the Basement! I loved how it’s not as crowded as the Comedy Cellar. The food was pretty good, fries were great and ricotta was pretty average. My husband agreed his fried chicken was just ok. Comedy was pretty good, was chuckling the whole time and didn’t really have any dud comedians but also wasn’t LOLing the whole night. The crowd seemed to agree with me and was pretty conservative with the laughs. Would certainly return, but Comedy Cellar is still king in my book.
Came all the way from MS for a show.
They didn't list the tickets on the website until a week before and they immediately sold out. The staff had no clue how their website worked and insisted I had to get tickets from another company. They didn't release the tickets after the show started and instead let people who showed up 20 minutes late in. Overpriced for the quality, but that's also just NYC.

The Stand is my go-to venue for comedy shows! You'll find a pretty bar and restaurant upstairs and the basement stage area below. There's full-service food and drinks throughout the show, which is nice and the food is actually good too! As with any comedy show, choose when you go based on the comedians, because that will dictate your experience!

I went here to see my friend Gylije (Julie with a G) perform - she's hilarious if you want to peep her on YouTube! It was my first time at The Stand and I was impressed that they accomplished to create a comedy club with food that's no joke. I have to make a special shout-out to the "Baked New Yorker" dessert which includes brownie, cheesecake, Italian meringue, and ice cream. It was truly divine. The location has an upstairs and basement stage area below. We were in the basement, which was clean, and had full-service food/drinks during the show (a smaller version of the upstairs menu, so theoretically it would also make sense to have dinner upstairs before heading downstairs to the club). It's a true comedy club-restaurant hybrid, and as it's located in Union Square, is considered the heartbeat of NYC by many people. Open 7 nights a week, bi-level venue, overall great lineups/comics, great dessert, not cramped, hosts multiple stand-up showcases and podcast recordings nightly, and quite organized. Fun fact: this club's owners, Patrick Milligan and brothers Chris and Paul Italia, recently bought an old Staten Island ferryboat with Pete Davidson and Colin Jost from SNL to turn it into their next comedy destination. Can't wait to see how that turns out!

Had Brunch at The Stand Comedy club and had a really good time. The bottomless Mimosas were great as well as the food. We arrived close to 3pm and it was a pretty calm vibe, the music selection was a plus. Highly recommend. Will be back.

I want so badly to support comedians, it's an art that is such a difficult field to be in, but godamn, I can not go into a place, sit in front and expect even mediocre comedy here. I try to support, but I get uncomfortable. I try to respond to support when the rest of the audience doesn't and I get told to stop heckling. I 100 percent don't feel safe among the comedy this establishment brings. I am currently sitting in the bathroom stall waiting for this show to end.... But I will say their food and drinks are delicious!!!! If I recommend anything, sit in the darkest corner, order the arancini
The comedy with food and drink combo is fantastic.
I recommend the popcorn chicken and the marinara pizza. Our server was Brooke, and she did a fantastic job. No friction getting or orders in and enjoying the show at the same time. The lighting provided an intimate ambience, too. Great date spot
Great food and service
We chose this restaurant for its location and it was a really happy surprise. The atmosphere was really nice, decorations for the holiday were lovely. The food was great--we had several small plates and a pizza as well as dessert. Our server, Rebecca, made very helpful wine, cocktail and food suggestions. Great spot.

My girlfriend and I attended the stand comedy club for a 9:00 PM show on DEC, 7th of 2023. We found the location through word of mouth from mutual friends and decided to go ahead and see what the hype was all about. We called ahead initially to purchase our tickets and ask a few questions regarding policies. We were kindly informed by the staff to please purchase tickets online and were also informed that the comedy club DOES NOT require a food or drink minimum which was nice especially for someone or a couple just looking for a fun cheap night out. Initially upon walking in we didn't see anyone up at the front to inform where to wait for the comedy club at that moment so we walked up to the bar where we are met by TOM. Tom seemed flustered and busy and seemed a little annoyed when we asked where to wait for the comedy show as if we should automatically know what to do upon walking in. My girlfriend and i think nothing of his reaction to our simple question and let it pass. This is where TOM starts the night off on the WRONG foot. Upon finally being seated in the comedy club performance area we happen to have TOM as our waiter. Tom greets us a little differently this time and asks if we would like anything to eat or drink. My girlfriend and i were not really looking for any drinks or food. We politely decline and Tom seems upset that we declined drinks and responds "Who comes to a comedy club and doesn't order any drinks really?" While he may have meant that jokingly it did not feel very friendly or appropriate for a staff member to speak in this manner. We ask about an appetizer thats small and decide on the truffle fries which were good just overpriced for what they are. Tom brings us our fries and the comedy show commences. The show begins and we start having a good time the comedians were interactive with their crowd and kept the night going smoothly however Tom did not. Tom failed to check in with us for about 3/4 of the night which honestly did not bother me as we were not ordering much. Around halfway we tried to get his attention and were ignored 2 times by Tom. Upon finally getting Toms attention we request the simplest thing anyone could ever request.... 2 glasses of water. As i said from the beginning we came mainly for a comedy show. Needless to say our glasses of water NEVER came to our table and were never checked up on after that encounter. We finally meet Tom for the final time at the end of the show to close out our very simple tab and tip accordingly to the service we received from Tom which was below average and a poor attitude overall but this was NOT the end of Tom. It gets much much worse when i return my tablet after paying out my tab. Tom sees my tip and gets extremely upset. (Before anyone comments i will not say my tip amount but i will note i did tip and i tipped accordingly to what i ordered and the service i received.) Tom gets so upset he actually responds "Really dude? Thats all your going to tip? What the F**k man." He then continued to look at me aggressively and smirk in a dismaying and condescending manner which made me and my girlfriend uncomfortable. He then sarcastically says "thanks man for nothing". My girlfriend also overheard him treating the next customers in a similar manner as we walked out avoiding any more unnecessary confrontation. We were going to speak to a manager but decided a review with his name would be a much better way to handle this situation. Normally my girlfriend and I tip very well and leave great reviews for places but i cant say the same for this place. Tom ruined my "The stand" experience as a tourist and made the comedy we enjoyed irrelevant as all we went home talking about was how rude that waiter Tom was to us. We hope that this business will handle this situation accordingly and if we return we will leave another review to say whether or not we had a different experience. The three stars we rate are for the comedy we enjoyed and the simple appetizer we enjoyed that was overpriced in our opinion for what it was.
