Lovely designed restaurant, limited menu options, did not care for the appetizers nor entrees. Best thing was the dessert the tres leche cake was superb! Give them 5 stars for presentation and 1 star for food.
Be the first to ReplyThis restaurant is a hidden gem in the Hudson yard area.
I first thought the restaurant was in the mall but I was wrong. It's across from the mall. The direction toward the train tracks. The kitchen is ran by Chef Linda. She can name every dish and ingredients for you if you have any questions. The service here is really good and attentive. They refill your water/sparkling water. There are many choices in the drink menu. The complimentary bread they serve is delicious. They serve the appetizers first. Then the main course. And then dessert. My favorite dish was the squid ink pasta. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The steak was perfect medium rare. The mini cabbage had a roasted sweetness to it, so delicious.I will definitely come back because some stuff on the menu changes depending on the season.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place! Beautiful interior with good food.
Loved the onion rings, the mussels (which came in a really good orange curry type sauce), and the donuts dessert. Highly recommend!

The service was excellent and the atmosphere was classy and mature. I absolutely loved the wine walls and how everything was situated. The wait staff didn't overwhelm by coming over to our table every five minutes interrupting my conversation (which is what happens at a lot of restaurants and it is infuriating). Everything that I ordered was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant and I hope it does very well and is around a long time.

I've been to the Tavern over 30 times in the last 9 months, but will never be going again. The staff very animatedly said that the ownership or an important member was in town and was not ok accepting gays in the establishment. This was going to be one of my favorite local places (I live in the building), but cannot believe I and my guests were turned away because ownership is anti-gay in 2022. This place needs to go.

The restaurant has great food and drinks, taste, quality and presentation, and the best service with all the staff friendly and professional. Me and my husband had one of he greatest time here for the anniversary dinner. The restaurant had great atmosphere as well :)

You would think that Hudson Yards would have a mega hook flagship restaurant - this place comes close - but falls short. The good news - the food! It's surprisingly good. And the service is great. The menu is varied and creative.Wine list is ... fine. But odd that their wine by the glass doesn't have many Napa area options. I mean ... more low grade Oregon pinot, here, really?!What's really off? The vibe...Hudson yards tends to be up and coming, and edgy, but why is everyone here over the age of 50, wearing ill fitting suits, ... who are these people? Why do I feel like I'm in a Hilton Garden Inn lobby in Phoenix Arizona? They need to draw a different crowd. Also, sometimes it's oddly empty.Related to the vibe ... the decor is slightly off. Some cool elements, high ceilings, views, etc ... but otherwise off. Also, why isn't the main entrance facing the way cool Vessel?

5 if I could! Came here for a nice team dinner for work and was not disappointed. The ambiance and service was great - would definitely consider it for client dinners in the future. It is definitely a bit pricey but at least the food is delicious and there is more than just a couple bites. They have an extensive wine menu with a sommelier who can assist with choices. Because it's a fine dining restaurant, most bottles are $100+. Octopus and mashed potatoes appetizer special - delicious! Probably my favorite appetizer since the octopus portions were very large and the mash potatoes weren't drowned in butter and cream. Sautéed tiger prawns - delicious and huge prawns. Was great to share with my group of 5. Crab cannelloni - came in a beautiful presentation. It was light and very unique but I couldn't taste the caviar. Loved that it was wrapped in avocado. Pan seared long island duck breast - a very very good duck breast although not the best I've had. I thought it was a bit under salted and was pretty plain. The side it came with was very unique and paired well with it, even though I couldn't tell what it was.

So first of all, do not be misled by the description of this restaurant- it is fancy! Like suits, ties, dresses and heels fancy. Since I showed up in sweats (nice sweats but still sweats) I decided I would pretend I was an eccentric billionaire who could wear whatever they wanted. The staff was excellent! From the hostess who helped find us a larger table to everyone who served us. We all ordered two starters and lots of cocktails. The steak tartare is one of the best I've ever had. The crab dish was amazing and my friends gave the oysters and Caesar salad rave reviews. We sampled almost all of the cocktails and the Commodore seemed to be a strong favorite. I will absolutely come back next time I'm in NYC and until then I will dream about that steak tartare....

This restaurant my daughter chose for her 26th birthday dinner while in NYC in December and it did not disappoint. Lots of meal choices for her, she has celiac and needs to eat gluten-free. She ordered the mussels and had a steak dinner, I ordered the farm-raised chicken leg and also had some mixed drinks. This restaurant is a bit more on the expensive side (in my opinion) but it was a splurge evening so worth it, but never have I ever paid $35 for a glass of wine when I ordered a house cabernet. When in New York...right?!We went on a Friday evening and had reservations, the place seemed very busy and packed so I would recommend booking reservations. The atmosphere is very open, classy, and ambient. A nice choice for a special occasion.

Linda is by far the best executive chef I ever met in my life! It was my girlfriend's birthday yesterday and we decided to try The Tavern, the food was astonishing and we're so well treated by the staff! I love every single bite, perfection in every plate! The app steak tartare ( so right); roasted butternut squash (omg); we love the lobster bisque (SO LIGHT- made in heaven- that's it! ) and the SQUID INK LINGUINE doesn't get out of my head! AMAZING AMAZING! The Tavern became my favorite place to eat!

The vibe and ambiance is amazing! Service was excellent and food was great. Decent menu choices. 4 stars because drinks were expensive $20 for glass of champagne, but absolutely worth going...probably should have just gotten a bottle lol. Excellent date spot especially if you want to impress.
Be the first to ReplyMy boyfriend and I had been wanting to check out The Tavern
My boyfriend and I had been wanting to check out The Tavern since pre-COVID, so we're happy to have finally made it here for dinner the other week! Very chic decor, and very good service throughout the night, too!The food was also very good, and we had the following:Sautéed Tiger Prawns - These shrimp were huge! Subtly seasoned and not overwhelming for the tastebuds, they were a nice starter to the meal.Pan Seared Potato Gnocchi - I'm partial to mushrooms and gnocchi, so no surprise that this was a highlight! I'd honestly get this for my entree, too!Seared Diver Scallops - The scallops were nicely sized and well-cooked, and I'm not usually a huge brussel sprout person but these brussel sprouts complemented the slightly sweeter purée very well!Onion rings side - You can't go wrong with onion rings, and the (giant) ones here are up there with the best of them!Donuts - One of their most popular desserts, and it's easy to see why - get these!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing.
Come for the drinks, skip the food. I recently attended a private dining event for the NYC Food & Wine Festival. The executive chef Linda Luo and her team were responsible for curating an "exquisite" menu meant to delight the senses. Unfortunately, we ended up with what I'll refer to as the following: bland flowers on a plate, ikea salmon (by the way, when the chef came around to do introductions, she even said that was "her fault") and a filet mignon with potatoes 2 ways-basically french fries and under-seasoned potatoes. Admittedly, the filet was great and the wine pairing was fantastic as well! I must state the obvious here-why would you serve guests something that was your "fault"? Two out of the four dishes were completely inedible. In fact, we sent them back they were THAT terrible! To add insult to injury, we were that turned off by the food that we left earlier than anticipated and just went to their bar-which was the highlight of our night. I wish I could say we enjoyed this subpar dining experience but unfortunately the bland, effortless and (sometimes) inedible/questionable options left a bad/disappointing aftertaste. For that, if we do go back, it would be for the wine. Thank you to the bartender, she was so kind and tailored our drinks precisely to our preferred palate. In short, giving one star for general ambiance and table service and another for cocktails & wine. Overall, heed other warnings and don't go for the food-unfortunately, I have to be completely honest.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, great wine list, and great location.
I take off a star for the service and the ambiance. It's almost always quiet, and the waiters/waitresses are often pushy (consistent, I come here almost weekly). They often run out of menu items, but tell you after they've delivered all the food to your table, not when you order. Worth asking them to double check as you order. Lot's of potential.
Be the first to ReplyJust reopened, The Tavern by WS has already hit its stride.
The service and ambiance are terrific. The menu is not extensive, but everything is excellent. The raw bar selections are fresh and well presented. The salads are worth trying. We were a large group and sampled a lot of the food and every dish was very good. The wine list is extensive and well priced which is not surprising since WS stands for Wine Spectator. I highly recommend The Tavern and will be back.
Be the first to ReplyHudson Yards dining scene is regaining its derailed
Hudson Yards dining scene is regaining its derailed culinary mojo courtesy of The Tavern.Being forced to shut through COVID against a backdrop of news coverage of others such as Thomas Keller's TAK Room naysayers have been quick to talk about Hudson Yards dining scene being dead-on-arrival. However most of these critics neither live nor dine frequently in the area and if present would see the volume of people, tourists and business activity increasing by the day.On September 16th The Tavern reopened initially for dinner service only 5 days per week (closed Sunday and Monday). I dined there last night as a customer and was wowed by the experience. The ambience is warm, cozy and inviting - a good bar scene on entry and plenty of leather clad banquettes and booths. The cocktail list focuses on the classics and is well executed and the wine list, well if the fact that the WS stands for Wine Spectator means anything to you, you know it will be an extensive list. The dinner menu had a number of attractive choices, always a good sign and the food we enjoyed was well executed and tasty.Service was excellent, leaving us curious about the members club facilities - given the Hugh standard of the public restaurant. My only quibble is with the size of the pour of wines by the glass - exacerbated by the lovely stemwear which is wide at the bottom, making the volume of wine appear even smaller.Great experience. Must return. Need to explore the members club !
