Service is outstanding
We had a great weekend at The Vineyard. We booked it wanting a completely relaxing spa break. On the day we were due to arrive we had a phone call saying our treatments were being cancelled due to staff sickness. We were very disappointed but fully understood that these things happen. The staff could not of been more understanding and helpful. Later we received a call to say the treatments could be reinstated. They were the best massages we have ever had. I also had a facial the following day which was very good. The room was great, spacious and luxurious. The food was excellent. The hotel's staff and service is wonderful, it not be any better. The only thing (and reason for 4 stars) was when we came to pay the bill VAT was added on everything. We had assumed the spa treatments, drinks, dinner and breakfast prices shown included this. Be warned it doesn't. It is an expensive hotel anyway. All in all we would definitely recommend, we left feeling rested and pampered.

If you are a foodie and like your wine then this is for you, mouth watering Michelin grade food with wine to match, coupled with a second to none impeccable service who were just superb to us and our 2 year old. A little tip, if you love your wine ask special wine menu,
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Sadly disappointed again. Having read various reviews we thought it would be worth trying again. There is a spa-but you have to “reserve “ the pool?! Dinner menu complicated and not very good-the food is the same. Staff try hard but can’t overcome the product
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food/service,Dog friendly, ideal for an informal couple’s lunch
We enjoyed a lovely lunch here with our well behaved dog. The service & food was wonderful. The other guests were very friendly & chatty. The art collection was really interesting. We also enjoyed learning about the wines & vineyards. We hope to return soon for a spa stay.

Stayed on a Champagne Sunday deal. Great idea. Had enough time to check in go to spa and rest before a wonderful dinner. Food is very good indeed. Staff welcoming and professional. Dropped one star but it’s a bit nitpicking. Ordered a gin and tonic and it arrived with the tonic already in the glass with the gin. This was a bit of a disappointment. Breakfast is also slightly odd. No cheese or cold meats and no eggs offered with sausage although happy to add them for me. Would it stop me staying. Definitely not.

Unique hotel, extraordinary people, michelin standard eatery and expert winery. Thank you for making us feel part of the family. Loved everything about our experience and how you all wanted to share your beloved hotel with everyone who walks through the door no matter who they are. If you're looking for perfection don't bother instead come ready to be greeted with humanity sharing its best. Make sure you experience everything the evening meal, breakfast, afternoon tea, spa, cellar tour, whiskey tree and bubble tree. Learn about the fascinating family of Peter Michael it seems he just wants to share his family treasure and life with you....it feels like you become part of his family even if it's only for a weekend! A must go to trip is to Greenham Common Airfield and Tower. Hear how Peter Michael saved the common and gave it back to the people.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service, delicious food, fantastic work training event
I was lucky enough to stay at The Vineyard overnight during January as part of a work training session. We were well looked after from arrival and throughout out meetings. Our meeting room was well appointed and the refreshments were great. They have an amazing tea selection including a Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc inspired tea as well as an assortment of coffees to choose from. Our lunch of a Thai inspired buffet was healthy, original and really tasty. In the afternoon we had a team building activity and the staff throughout the hotel were really accommodating I helping us carry out our tasks. My room was fantastic with a strong rainfall shower and a huge bath. They had also left little wine gums in the room which were a fantastic touch. Our dinner meal was delicious. The olive oil pebble was both fun and delicious and the steal beautiful. We were very well looked after by Francesco and Diana who made the evening run smoothly and always kept our glasses topped up. Thank you to Judit and Chris for helping organise the night and for accommodating us so wonderfully. I definitely hope to have the chance to visit again.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic long weekend away!
Me and my partner had booked a long weekend (Friday to Sunday) break at the Vineyard as a little post-Xmas/NYE treat for ourselves (we were blighted by Covid for the period so felt we needed an additional break). We'd never been to a 5* hotel before so were very much looking forward to it. I wish I asked the names of the staff members because I would love to name-drop them for their friendliness and helpfulness. Nothing was ever too much to ask and we had a fantastic experience from the moment we walked through the door with the receptionist greeting us, checking us in and explaining to us about the hotel, its owner and its connection to Californian wines (hence the name!). We were shown to our room, which was lovely, clean, and very spacious. We spent the Friday exploring Newbury before dining in the hotel restaurant at 6pm. We were a bit early so had a drink in the lounge area next door by an open fire which was just perfect. Again, the bar staff were excellent and saw to it that we were comfortable and taken care of. The food was fantastic, with a lovely complementary appetiser and some bread/butter/pork fat as we opted to go straight in for a main. We both had the beef rib eye, which came with chips and a salad, and then we ordered an additional salad to share. While this was our first 5* hotel experience we had dined at high-end restaurants before; the steak was superb and probably the best I've ever had. Beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection; it was juicy, tender and full of flavour. We also had a pear dessert to share which was also lovely and my partner washed it all down with a nice glass of red which she thought was wonderful (I'm not a wine drinker myself, so an aspect of the hotel is wasted on me!). The atmosphere was very relaxed; they don't insist on smart attire but prefer a more smart/casual choice so everyone can be as comfortable as possible. The beds were very comfy although we found the pillows to be too soft and 'marshmallowy' for our liking, but we spoke with reception the next day and they were quick to provide some firmer ones which were perfect and ensured a glorious Saturday night sleep. We also enjoyed the spa on the Saturday afternoon after a hearty 3-hour walk in the North Wessex Downs. The facilities were excellent, with a pool, jacuzzi, steamroom and sauna, as well as sun loungers and tea facilities. Robes and slippers were provided in the room so we walked to and from the room to the spa in those. It was a very relaxing experience and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately we weren't able to book a spa treatment as we left it quite late and some of the staff were off ill, but we didn't actually mind in the end as the pool and sauna were enough for us. Saturday morning we enjoyed breakfast in the dining area with a good assortment of pastries, juices, cereals, yoghurt, granola and berry compote etc. It set us up nicely for the day, and on the Sunday morning we choose to have breakfast delivered to our room instead just for that extra little treat before we checked out (not without one final visit to the pool and sauna, of course!). As we checked out the staff again were very nice and even gave us a little spa treatment goodie bag. All in all we had a fabulous time and would definitely recommend here for a lovely getaway. We hope to come back again one day :)

I stayed at The Vineyard as part a a work meeting so got to experience the meetings and events side of the hotel as well as the accommodation and restaurant. Everything is very well done here. All staff are polite and welcoming and the hotel itself has a really nice feel to it. I didn’t have chance to use the pool and spa but from what I saw, it looked lovely. A special mention to John at Concierge for helping us with our team building task. He really got involved and was so helpful. We enjoyed private dining in the evening and the food was really delicious. All courses were extremely tasty and well presented. The service was outstanding from Diana and Francesco so a big thank you to them. I stayed in a suite and it was very comfortable. A huge deep bath and the comfiest bed I have slept in for a long time. The room was the perfect size and had everything you could wish for. Breakfast the next day was good. I would highly recommend staying at The Vineyard.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, lovely food, comfortable rooms
Attended a company strategy/away day recently at The Vineyard. The whole experience from start to finish was fantastic - the staff couldn't be more helpful, the food and wine delicious and the rooms were very comfortable and luxurious too. Thank you team (including Judit, Diana and Francesco who all looked after us so well). We will be back!
Be the first to ReplyGreat hotel but no spa Monday morning!
Booked this as a treat for my partner’s birthday. and stayed Sunday and checked out Sunday. Beautiful hotel, extremely polite, friendly and efficient staff, and our suite was well appointed and the bed linen was amongst the best I’ve ever slept in. We used the spa after check in (had to be booked in) and the pool area was clean, circular pool (water bit cold) with sun beds and towels around the periphery. Nice steam room and sauna and jacuzzi. So all was well until the next morning when we fancied a quick swim and steam before breakfast but the whole spa/pool complex was closed. The hotel was almost empty and we were told it’s closed all day Monday/Tuesday! This is an expensive SPA HOTEL! There was no other explanation given so at check out I complained as I feel that when you pay full price all facilities should be available up until you check out. Fortunately, the duty manager agreed and the outstanding balance on the bill was waived. This is a great hotel and would recommend but ensure you know which facilities are open.
Be the first to ReplyLovely way to spend a Friday afternoon
Had a lovely afternoon tea with my husband. It was a birthday gift from friends. Staff were very attentive and the afternoon tea was magnificent. They couldn't do enough to ensure everything was ok. Would recommend to anyone. Location and atmosphere was great.

We stayed in an atrium suite as those are the only rooms where you can take a dog. They also charge extra for taking the dog, even though you’re paying for a premium suite. It was also an extra fee for a small bed for our daughter.
We were not allowed in the spa the day we arrived as we hadn’t reserved a place. Apparently that’s a Covid thing. We had the spa booked for the next morning. It was very nice and we were the only people there. Not sure how many are allowed to book at a time but we didn’t need the entire spa. We went to the theatre and arrived back at the hotel just after 11. There was absolutely nothing available via room service. Not even toast. We went to the bar to see if we could at least pick up a packet of crisps. Nope. Just the odd olive. Apparently another change due to Covid.
The room was lovely and clean and spacious. But the experience overall was not worth the price tag. Over £450 for one night, no easy access to spa facilities, and also no room service after 11 (maybe even earlier - I didn’t check) Covid used as an excuse but the reduced availability of these facilities was absolutely not reflected in the price. Very disappointing.
A simply wonderful short stay
My boyfriend and I came to stay for one night over his birthday and the attention to detail paid by staff really blew us away. We were greeted and he was wished happy birthday on arrival, following our upgrade we were taken to our room where personal happy birthday notes and complimentary gin and tonics were left for us (absolutely fabulous). We were so well looked after by Ellie (who we think was head of guest relations) who made sure we were looked after at every stage of our stay. She went above and beyond to make our one night stay very special, and made sure we knew where everything was that we needed, from an electric car charging point to the spa rooms - which were just amazing! We had the best time and would definitely return! Thank you to all the staff that made our stay so great!

I met friends for lunch at this stunning place. Peter ( Breakfast Manager) looked after us beautifully - we were very demanding! Peter went above and beyond the call of duty at every opportunity, nothing was too much trouble. He even stayed after his shift, so as to make our service seamless. The food was superb, attention to detail faultless, making the whole experience memorable.
Thoroughly recommend.
Enjoyable but some niggles
My wife and I were staying for 2 nights to celebrate her birthday. The reservation was a bit fraught - they couldnt understand that we only wanted dinner on the Saturday night, and not both nights. Confused communication after they confirmed reservations at higher prices than I originally booked - eventually sorted out.
The service, room amenity and dinner were all very good indeed. Pricey but worth it at the end of the day. Drinks ( 1 glass champagne, one good malbec) at the bar £38 - its only money!!
We checked out and on our way home received a frantic call that our card payment had failed!! After taking the card on check in how was this possible?? After providing all details twice again the payment was finally accepted. This is all very strange. I never have issues with my cards so what are they doing wrong??
Overall we would visit again - but will make an issue about card payment.
Lovely Stay in a Fantastic Hotel
We'd never been to this hotel before, despite seeing reviews and it was on the "to do" list for ages. From the moment we arrived we were treated brilliantly - with fantastic staff being kind and attentive from the off. The room we had was absolutely wonderful... a lovely garden suite with en suite and nice tv/desk floor. Nice touch to have a fridge (as a lot of other hotels seem to removed these). The hotel's décor was lovely... a Californian winery with loads of wine racks and lovely lounges. Our lunch... in one of the lounges off the main restaurant was great...nice food and fantastic wine (of course!).
The whole place has loads of original artwork (a great touch and really interesting). Dinner was brilliant... first class food and more lovely wine - all surrounded by original artwork. The staff were, at all times, polite and knowledgeable. Would we go again? Without any hesitation.
Marvellous Mini-Moon
We stayed here after our wedding in December and took advantage of "Champagne Sundays" which I think is an excellent deal. Amazing massage, fantastic food and free champagne. No complaints here. We'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyNew Year celebration
I have to admit that this hotel was not our first choice for New Year, however due to travel restrictions in place it was not very wise to leave England.
And we had fabulous time in Vineyard!!!
The rooms are grand, very specious and comfortable.
The colleagues looking after us all were very attentive and helpful. John at the reception desk was very helpful with local places to visit (we already have plan to return to see at least one of them!).
We had lovely waiter from Argentina, and our sommelier had such a passion for wine. We used hotel’s spa on the new year day and Barbara was incredibly gentle and very professional with the facials, we wish we lived closer to be able to visit her regularly.
We did not always agree with the choices made by the chief, but i guess it is more down to personal preferences. Saying that my husband still remembers the taste of the American pancakes served on the brunch on 1st of Jan. please keep them on your regular menu!
The New Year evening was conducted in much quieter manner than on pre-pandemic times, but still very much in spirit of the celebration!! And the firework! Piece of art, really great start of the year!
Wonderfully relaxing stay and fantastic value
We visited in January for 1 night on the winter Break Deal and it was extremely good value. The spa was quiet and relaxing, our room comfortable and cosy And the Breakfast delicious and extremely Generous. Every member of staff was exceptionally polite and attentive. The bar had a great atmosphere in the evening with a lovely warm fire. We visited for a night away from our toddler before our second child is due and it Was exactly what we needed. Thanks very much.
