Food 8/10 My thoughts straight from the sushi journal in real-time: 1. Snapper sea salt lemon juice lime: too much citrus but fish is soft 2. Chutoro: good wasabi balance, jelly-like consistency 3. Yellowtail shishito pepper: I like the char and the pepper pairing, a little chewier 4. Tuna truffle: fire, surprised I did appreciate truffle being added can definitely taste it 5. Shima aji: garlic chip most of the flavor, soft texture 6. Salmon tomato; mushy 7. Ikura: lemon zest. Why does this taste like boba to me 8. Botan ebi: kinda sweet, but not the sweetest, strong wasabi 9. Scallop: lime zest yuzu, no chew bite right through tender big scallop piece, very strong citrus again 10. Otoro toro caviar: caviar unnecessary but I love tuna so this was great, not too fishy 11. Eel: always solid, just a teensy bit dry 12. Toast: uni and toro, i love uni, bread was unnecessary would prefer w rice. This is what I don't like about innovative sushi 13. Toro handroll: a little small idk They are very generous with their fish pieces. The rice itself is not very distinct, light on the wasabi, little loose wish it had more vinegar, and we asked for less rice. I don't like frills in omakase, so this was definitely not my style. Atmosphere 3/10 Horrible ventilation bumped down the ranking significantly. The oil fumes made my head hurt. The counter is three-sided. Typical mid-tier omakase pretty good price for what you get in NYC. Service 5/10 Nice service. Because it's a timed omakase spot, they fed us piece after piece quite consecutively, but not complaining about it.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing location and atmosphere and price! 10/10 recommend.
Interesting and unique omakase.
Be the first to ReplySO GOOD.
Do yourself a favor and GO TO THIRTEEN WATER. I've tried a bunch of omakases and this was defiinitely the best for the price range. As a caveat, the seatings are every hour.... so you will feel a bit rushed (unless you're in a pinch then you'll be pumped). The chefs are all friendly and explain each nigiri + topping combo. Hosts are also attentive with drinks/ additional items to order. The sushi bar is packed in tightly but very well organized that you don't feel squished at all (esp compared to some other places cough cough sushi by M) Can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyIt's a solid spot.
Good fish, good deal, good experience especially for a first time Omakase experience. The service definitely feels rushed, we were in and out within 45 minutes (you only get an hour time slot and the place is pretty small, seats maybe 15 total)

For the price, Thirteen Water is a very good omakase that I would recommend to any sushi lover. The quality of the fish was high, and the chefs exhibited strong creativity in balance with the higher pace of the service. The staff were friendly, and were very helpful with our BYO champagne. It is a nice space, everything you would expect from an omakase spot.

Every single piece was so delicious and the flavors meshed so well. It's $75 for 13 pieces. I am missing parts of each piece but overall they included: 1. Madai - snapper with lime zest 2. Chutoro - fatty tuna with pickled wasabi 3. Hamachi - hamachi yellowtail with shishito peppers 4. Tuna Truffle - blue fin tuna with shiitake mushroom and truffle (so so good) 5. Shima Aji - stripe jack with fried garlic 6. Salmon Tomato - salmon with seared tomato (was such an unexpecting tasty combo) 7. Ikura - salmon roe with yuzu skin (loved the hint of yuzu) 8. Botan Ebi - shrimp with pico wasabi 9. Hotate - scallop with sea salt, lime zest 10. Otoro Toro Caviar 11. Unagi - unagi over rice (simple and good) 12. Toast - tuna, uni (was a big fan of the toast portion because it was a bit dry) 13. Toro handroll - toro with pickled radish Loved every piece and highly recommend this place. Whole experience finished before the hour to allow for extra orders. Served on a plate with ginger. No personal soy sauce dish or wasabi as it is already implemented by the chef.
Be the first to ReplyWhere to start! We were part of the first group to enter.
At first we almost passed it because it blended in so well with the building. Small but straight to the point for omakase. $75 for 13 courses??? NYC omakase really is different and affordable. My husband and I had such a great early Valentines/Anniversary dinner here. My favorite had to be the uni toast while my husband loved the otoro Caviar (and me too but I love uni more lol). Would definitely come back or visit the other location!

13 pieces for $75 Came for Valentine's Day celeb and they were so cute they gave all the ladies a rose too Everything was very fresh and price was just right! Here's what we got: Madai / red snapper with lemon juice was great Chutoro- fatty toro ate it so quick I forgot to take a pic Hamachi fave so far with impactful flavors and Smokeyness Tuna truffle - yummy truffle Shima aji / striped jack with the garlic chip is hmm so delicious Salmon tomato - my least fave one - not sure if the tomato goes well with it Ikura - this was more basic Botan Ebi / shrimp - hmm so yummy Hotate / sea scallop - hmm one of my fave - fresh and loved the fresh lemony and spicyness that paired with it Otoro toro caviar: THIS WAS MY ABS FAVE Unagi: hmm very flavorful Toast: I normally don't like UNI but theirs were great!! UNI was not that fishy! The toast was very flavorful Toro hand roll - this was a packed out hand roll

...a 2.5 stars review. My wife saw the rave on Instagram and got baited...decided to have a couples' night out at the place. The place seats 16 people on a U-shaped bar with three sushi chefs serving the selected fish for the night. The decor is minimal, and the space can be tight depending on how wide you are. We started with a short wait as the previous guests were finishing up their meal. The moment the restaurant cleared, we were slowly seated...once filled, the wait staff asked what we would like to drink. Shortly after the omakse experience begins...madai, chutoro, hamachi with shisito pepper, tuna truffle, shima aji with fried garlic chip, salmon tomato, ikura with yuzu, botan ebi, hotate with lime zest, otoro toro caviar, unagi, toro and uni toast, toro handroll. We decided to add extra pieces of scallop/uni, spicy scallop handroll, and wagu/foie gras to end the night. The experience was not what I would expect from an omaske place. The interaction between the chef and customer barely existed. The chef prepared the sushi, putting it on the dish and introducing what sushi you're having. At one point of our meal, my sister-in-law discovered a thick curly hair in her shima aji. My brother low key notified the chef of the situation. The chef examined the piece of hair and called the wait staff over, who also examined the piece of hair. They then asked what we would like to do? We said, "How about replacing the piece of fish." The service without the incident is a 3, but with the hair incident, it's a 2. The place is runned like a factory assembly line, and the fish isn't great. For the price, the omakse meal is great if you don't know sushi. I tried it once and won't be returning, but do try for yourself and give it a shot.
Be the first to ReplyGreat deal for quality sushi.
The space is bigger than I thought. I think it seats almost 20 people. There were 3 main chefs per section. They were quick and efficient. I never had to wait long for my next piece. It came out at a good pace. I enjoyed every piece. Very nice garnishes that paired well on top of each. My most favorite was the toast. The toast was nice and crispy on the outside and surprisingly soft as you bite into it. I got an additional uni roll. They gave a generous amount of uni. The uni was decent. My one critique about the omakase is the rice. The rice didn't hold together well. It either stuck to the plate or fell apart. I had to hurry and throw the pieces into my mouth.

Thirteen Waters Omakase Sushi is without a question an unexpected treasure! To say it mildly, it was an unforgettable experience! The Omakase was delectable, novel, and entertaining, with a variety of intriguing combinations executed flawlessly. At $75 for 13 pieces, including a fantastic variety of drinks and individual add-ons, it was a steal. Everything was beautifully presented, and the condiments that enhanced the flavor of the fresh sashimi were just perfect. I strongly recommend this restaurant because both the food and the service were excellent. We got reservations for 4 for a Friday night. All counter spots so that's nice. None of the pieces were outstanding. It went by super quick and I think we were done within 35 minutes (even with a bottle of sake). It did feel a bit rush since we sat down at 7pm and was offered the bill before 7:40pm. Cute spot tho.
Be the first to ReplyVery solid price- friendly omakase spot.
At Thirteen Water the toppings are the main attraction unlike the fish which is more common among omakase spots. The fish was still phenomenal and super fresh. I love their sister restaurant Shinn East and I am sure it was the same fish due to the freshness. I would recommend if you'd like to try omakase that has more going onto it than just fish and rice

The service was friendly, food was great - one of the best value omakase deals in LES currently. All the fish were fresh and thought each piece was well executed. Would definitely recommend for beginners to seasoned sushi goers
Be the first to ReplyThe best omakase under $100 I've had.
The fish was very fresh and you can feel the materials were all in a high quality. Added two more pieces after the set. The service was great. Highly recommend!

My friend and I walked to Thirteen Water and had trouble finding the restaurant at first. There were no signs so it's definitely hidden in plain sight lol. The interior is clean and minimalist with only 8 of us dining at the time. The omakase is $75 for 13 pieces. My friend and I shared a plum wine and it was refreshing! I personally think the ROI is pretty high since the meal was affordable and every piece of nigiri tasted so fresh. The garnishes like foie gras, truffles, and uni really enhanced overall taste of the nigiri as well. Overall, it was an awesome lunch experience!

TLDR: was recommended this place by social media (seemingly most people here have) and the owners who also own ShinnEast, Ume, and Sanyuu West. Really high quality sushi, unique and interesting combinations that are different from the other restaurants that is worth coming to! SETTING: we made a reservation for 9pm on a Sunday during Presidents' Day weekend and were able to get the reservation a week in advance. When we arrived there was a crowd waiting outside at the door- we waited for a good 10-15 minutes in the cold before the last guests from the seating before left, and we were allowed in.We haven't had to wait like that before so I think maybe they should time their reservations a bit further apart. The restaurant is mostly a large sushi counter with about 20 seats in a gray, concrete, minimal space. You're seated quite closely together.FOOD: The quality of the sushi at all of these places are incredible and definitely beat Sushi by Bou (my last favorite quality sushi for not too much$$). The pieces are accentuated with a little something to make them pop- including seared tomato, citrus zest, truffle, seared peppers, etc. I loved each piece - really quality sushi. The only critique would be that the rice was loose- too loose sometimes that the rice would almost fall apart if you didn't grab it the right way. It still tasted amazing but was hard to eat sometimes. I saw the plates next to us with rice leftover as they were using chopsticks which would break the rice up.SERVICE: service as always was great. They are highly attentive and you never go long without being helped. I didn't feel rushed but we were in and out quickly.VERDICT: high quality sushi and a great deal at 13 pieces or so for $75. I will be back!

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE OMAKASE EXPERIENCE!! The sushi chef's attention to detail in garnishing each piece with sweet and savory sensations just heightened the umami flavors of every bite of fish! Excellent quality seafood, fresh melt-in-your-mouth cuts of Chu Toro, Hamachi and more. It was actually better than other Omakase restaurants in Tokyo! The restaurant is small, seating is less than 20 people. Tasteful and simply decorated. People were dressed in nice evening wear (and we couldn't understand why the hostess was wearing a casual hoodie with a smiley face). Be sure to make a reservation well in advance. This is a must try, I highly recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyMy hike to alphabet city is well worth it.
I would travel anywhere for good food especially sushi . I love how simple this venue is. It's small but cozy and has the perfect ambiance for a sushi place . My only complain is , an hour is too short . I understand other sushi restaurants do the same but an hour and 15 Would be perfect . New themes , i enjoyed the restaurant, food and service was on point .
Be the first to ReplyMy first omakase experience and it was very affordable.
We went early in the day and enjoyed the tranquil space as it was only us in the restaurant. The miso butter salmon was one of my favorites and as melted in my mouth tasted as if it was pasta. Grabbed a yuzu lemonade that I would recommend. Our host was very friendly and told us more about the owners, their connection to Ume, and that the name of the place is after a Chinese card game!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was great, but the experience was so rushed.
They only give each round of customers 1 hour window to dine and it seems like it's always running late and cascading into later time slots. We wanted to order extra sushi and sake at the end but the next group of people were coming in so they didn't let us. I guess given the price point I'm still very happy, but it was just a bit unexpected. So don't book your special occasion dinner here :p

Recently dined at the fairly new Thirteen Water in Alphabet City. Food, ambiance, and service was super! The $75 omakase is a great price for 13 fresh and delicious pieces. Highly recommend you try it!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic sushi place that recently opened in the East
Fantastic sushi place that recently opened in the East Village. I tried the Omikase which was a wonderful tour around some delicious sushi delights. Top prize was the scallop with citrus and pepper ( it's MUCH better than my description, trust me). Thirteen waters is serious about their sushi - no soy sauce allowed. You don't need it. I will be going back to this place
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal.
Honestly, I want to keep this a hidden spot but it's too good to not tell from the rooftops how good it is. Speedy 60 mins of the best I've had in a place under 100$.

my first omakase experience did not disappoint! every piece tasted so amazing and hand crafted. the blend of flavors in each piece left me speechless. I loved the truffle tuna piece and the uni pieces were *chefs kiss*. The yuzu beer was such a great pairing! overall great food and service - a luxurious experience.
